I got mine today and it's been installing for like 4 hrs now ?? It still says 18% ...does it usually take this long? Did anyone have the same problem? What should I do ?

Helpful info, especially when any sort of decent documentation is non-existent from WD. I installed today and found that I had to click Share Info in the Product Development modal to actually get to the install part. If you say Do Not Share you'll get an error (you can later remove the 'Share' setting). Also, I found the difference between copying over files vs. backing them up confusing until downloading the WD Backup App when then lets you set up a backup plan.
WD My Passport drives are great...accidentally knocked mine off my desk earlier today, and though I was scared of damage/data loss, seems to still be working just fine!
Tip: if you guys end up losing your cable for your usb 3.0 external drives, you can temporarily use a microusb cable. I had the old version of this mypassport ultra for 9 years now (bought in 2013 or 14) and now i am buying my first 2TB external because yes, as this dude said, content creators needs lots of storage. lol
I just received one yesterday and got concerned that it ran overnight and the backup was only 50% complete, but if you only had about 80 GB and that took an hour and a half, then I guess mine is doing what it's supposed to as fast as it can since I have over 500GB to backup for the first time.
I want to set a password but when I click the setting icon, the only option I have is 'eject', just as it appeared on minute 6:05 How can I make the password option appear?
I just wrote a few lines of batch with xcopy added the batch file in in task schedule and have a backup without any additional Software. Also already existing files are Skipper for my Media libary and for my server files if the file is newer than the file on my backup drive the file on this drive will be overwritten.

@@cherylgmariano5085 My download took a good while to finish, that's using DSL (advertised at 18Mbs; I know, right :( ). I don't remember the speed, but it took longer that I thought it would.
At 530 you TRY to show how to drag a folder but your camera angle doesn’t show how you did it, so I have NO clue how to transfer a folder onto the passport. Very frustrating dude
Sur, if you don’t know what drag and drop means then you shouldn’t even own a computer! Just click right button on mouse. hold it and drag folder to the desired location. “passport” To easy

I'm am an older person trying to watch your video while doing the same steps on my new WD My Passport. This video was accurate up until you gave instructions on the install backup part. My backup showed instead Acronis True Image for WD Backup. So now I will have to find a more recent video that explains this. The video was a bit bouncy and your speech was very fast (had to pause and replay frequently) but otherwise this was a good video up until the backup Acronis.

I got a brand new one, plugged it in, installed WD Discovery and my laptop read the drive normally. Then suddenly it didn't. The drive won't show up again and my laptop keeps saying "USB device not recognized". Is there a fix to this or did I receive a faulty unit?
You cut the video at 6:09. Before that when you click settings it only said eject. After that now you can set the password but I don't know how you got there because you edited it out
Bought the 5TB one in July and it's already broken. It won't turn on. No lights, no spinning. Tried different cables with no success. Had more than 3TB of "research" on it. First time a hard drive has failed on me, and it's so new! I have 3 other WD external hard drives, 2 Seagate ones, 1 Transcend, and 1 Toshiba. They're all working and 1 of the WD ones is almost 10 years old and it's still working fine. Avoid this particular model is my advice. A lot of the 1 star reviews on Amazon mention failure in less than a year.

The thing immediately broke after copying 25-30GB worth of files. I think I received a defective item. This all happened a couple of hours after it arrived via delivery lol.
I bought this Hard drive WD My Passport 5tb in Nigeria for #54,000 yesterday ( 20-04-2022 ) but in the process of using it to copy software today ( 21-04-2022 ) I see that the hard is not working so I use Hard Disk sentinel to test it, then I discovered that the Heat of Hard as Reduce from 100% to 9% I try to return it to the seller but the seller did not collect it from me
Can you install it in multiple computers or is it an one time thing where you have to decide on which computer to install, looking forward to you answer, have a good one mate.
If you lock the drive, can you still get at the installation software that comes on the drive. Take the case where the laptop dies and you get a new laptop. How do you then unlock the drive.
Honestly I wouldn't bother with the software that comes with the drive - I think they just give you that so that they can keep their brand name in your face for longer. Just use the drive as a generic piece of hardware, then either rely on the software built into your OS or download something else if you need it from a reputable software vendor on the internet. Storage isn't that complicated, and if you want password protected encryption there are lots of good tools for that.

Yes I am experiencing the same exact thing. It's been saying 18% since 4pm yesterday. It is now 10am, did you get yours finally installed?
End task and restart the install.
No may be it is due to ur wifi problem.... For me it took only 1:30 minutes

I have installed but cannot drop anything into the harddrive, not even copy and paste. if i right click it only gives me an eject option.

It works out-of-the-box with Linux as well. I use Ubuntu Linux. You don't have to install any additional software.

When you plug it in, open the Wd passport folder. and the software should be inside there

The file explore didnt pop o0pen, and when i did open it nothing showed up in my "This pc" tab

Not showing 3 options.. Only eject option available.. As showing first on your system. Need to make password.
