Is connecting my cloud home to internet mandatory ?
Hi Vipin. Please ensure connection to a functioning router via the incorporated Ethernet cable. Note, this is not a Wi-Fi enabled device. For optimal performance, a Gigabit capable router or switch is recommended. A Broadband (WAN) Internet connection with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is necessary for the initial setup, software downloads, and accessing the device.
I own 2 units of WD My Passport 5TB from the esame store. when I open WD Utilities software I can see that one of them have newer firmware and product ID. then I install WD Dashboard and it's says not new firmware update for any of the drives. why is that? this is make me very sad and frustrated. I just wish to have same versions of firmware and product id on both of my drives. maybe you can help me to do it with other WD software that can update the firmware and product id?

My old mycloud device has a twonky server that serves nfs to my local streaming device. How do i access this? When I login locally, the only option I seem to have is to disable the ability to login locally. Does the app you mentioned allow this functionality?

Hi there, I have another issue, Windonws 10 detects my WD 5TB Elements Portable USB Drive, but the WD Drive Utilities Software doesn't. How can I solve this problem? Thanks for your reply.
Hi, we are sorry for the inconvenience. Please note that WD Elements drive does not support the WD Security application, so it does not show the drive. However, you may use Windows inbuilt feature "BitLocker" or any third party application to encrypt the drive.

Hello, my problem was solved with the first step. I turned on my PC with the device already plugged and it worked, but it only works this way. If I pulg it when it's on, it again doesn't show. What can I do to fix this ? Thanks

Hi, please know that a hard disk's safety cover can be an excellent approach to safeguarding it from unintentional falls and regular commutes. It not only offers extra safety for the drive itself but also for its contents by providing supplementary insulation against dust, moisture, and impact damage. Usually external drives are shock proof but it is good to have an extra layer of safety.
Should it also work if only the internal ssl port and proxy Server ssl port are configured, but not the external Port Mapping Range Ports?! My Router can't set the 40,000 to 49,999 range ports settings.

If this drops to the floor then nIt's a good thing, but if you hit it while it's working or it falls on the floor, even RAID won't help. In our office, a flowerpot fell from a cabinet on top of it and all the data had to be restored! But RAID actually saved it because it took good copies of sectors from both disks and put them together. Data restored!

@@WesternDigitalSupportChannel What I really need to know is how to transfer the data from one NAS directly to another NAS on my LAN without the data having to flow in and back out of my PC. This is basicaly what happens with a simple copy either from NAS to NAS or even one share to another on the same NAS for that matter. Since the OS5 upgrade my EX4100 no longer recognizes the two USB drives that I used before the upgrade to OS5 (along with 4 new 8TB WD Red Plus NAS drives). Actually It doesn't recognize ANY external USB drive. The drives work fine on any other PC/laptop I have. I have to replace a WD Red Plus NAS drive (14 months old) in my EX4100 and rebuild the RAID5 ASAP. Unfortunately I received the new drive yesterday and inserted it and either the new WD drive is dead out of the box OR the #3 bay in my EX4100 is dead. So I am trying to decide what my next move is. So is there a way to transfer the date in NAS1 (WD EX4100) to NAS2 (not a WD NAS) directly? Thank You.

The iphone app doesnt detect the sandisk type C flash drive on my iphone 15 Pro
For clarification, the sandisk app doesn't detect the Sandisk USB drive. I can go through the "My Files" part, but it's extremely slow and clunky

bought a WD 2TB My Passport Portable External Hard Drive for my MacBook m1, I simply want to plug it in and put a bunch of files on the hard drive to clear some space its taking me through loop after loop and now all I have on my desktop is "WD Unlocker" when I click on that it says your drive is now unlocked. but the drive is nowhere to be seen to be able to drag and drop things onto it.... I just don’t get it. My WD Elements external storage still does not show. In device manager I see it and it says ‘this device is working properly’ but I cannot see it on my pc and cannot open it. I need the files!!!

So i put 41 GBs of photos on the WD Passport and 22 GB's of music. How do I play the music and show the pictures from the WD Passport?

We recommend connecting the drive directly to the USB port of the host device and you should be able to access the data in the drive to open pictures and play music using the associated applications installed in the host device.

I recently got a new computer and when I originally plugged in WD My Passport it asked what I wanted to do. It said to download OR see what was on disk. I already had pictures on the passport) For some reason I clicked on see what's on disk, I SHOULD HAVE CLICKED ON DOWNLOAD THE PASSPORT FIRST. Now it will NOT let me download any more pictures, I can only see what's on the disk. Is there a way in setting to change what I want to do when I plug it back in. I tried contacting WD but they are not understanding my problem. My computer is only recognizing the read. Hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction. I am using Windows 10 I Thank You.

Really great tutorial. However, would it be possible to format an external drive, to backup Windows and Mac? Windows would be a one-file image, but I don't think Mac is so. By the way, I am a Windows guy and my kids have MacBook Airs.
