Super Metroid creates that feeling of mystery and sadness which is great, but Dread just has that "Don't worry, leave it to me" feeling that is just absolutely amazing and fits perfectly with Samus's demeanor.
Just like how everyone can recognize Mario and Zelda instantly with their overworld themes, this should be the theme that when anyone hears, can say "Oh, Metroid". It deserves to be more iconic!
You forgot the prime 2 part where you see the cutscene of the soldiers dying, i think its called "last stand" also prime 3's "Samus's mission" when Aurora Unit gives you the orders on what to do that includes prime 3's gunship theme that has the leitmotif in it so.. Samus Returns also has a gunship theme in the menu, and the theme that plays when you arrive SR388, as well as when you leave it plays the super metroid leitmotif check it out, its very nice!
Some of the themes fit well with the story beats of their respective game. Samus Returns sounds like it's being played by a human orchestra and opera, and that's because the Galactic Federation is the group discussing the Metroid problem and hires Samus to end it. They're cheering her on. Prime 1 sounds like a Space Pirate group who had escaped from Zebes, thinking they were safe. But then the Iron Clad Hunter shows up, and they sing her theme with a tone of fear and uncertainty. Prime 2 sounds like it could be the Luminoth playing it; they're joyous to have a savior arrive to end a war they couldn't. Brawl sounds like a terrifying force is about to be unleashed, but it is a force for good. This is when she gets her armor in the Subspace Emissary. Other M's theme has those twinkling glass moments and it never get to the heroic part. In this game, Samus is in a weakened state of mind from her depression after the Baby died. Even though she wiped out the entirety of the Space Pirates, she's not feeling like she was successful. She's fragile, like glass. (I had to reach pretty deep for that cuz THIS GAME SUCKED) And Dread sound like Samus herself mixed it on a soundboard. The heavy bass beats shows that she's ready to give a heavy beating to the X parasite and "End this, once and for all."
Technically speaking, Echoes has two versions of Samus' theme, one during the intro landing sequence and once more when you're watching the playback of the GF Troopers and what happened to them, it's a bit different and more slow but still has the theme
prime 2 and 3 are the best for me imo, gives that ''here comes the saviour'' vibes perfectly. Should've also added the version that plays in prime 2 when we have a flashback of the federation marines crashing into aether, aswell as the debriefing theme of the aurora unit in prime 3 before samus goes to bryyo. Both use the full themes of samus aran instead of the short 30 seconds version you used.
Theres just something absolutely sick about the 303 acid bassline in games like Super and Other M that always sticks in my head. It almost gives me like a serious "time to get shit done" type vibe
Super Metroid is my fav just because it has those drums in the background when it kicks into the heroic part at 0:32 I love those drums and in every other iteration it's replaced with strings or gets overpowered by the heroic sounds
I would give ANYTHING to go back of the summer of 1994 and play Super Metroid for the first time all over again. I was 12 at the time and I was completely hooked on that game.
I love the Smash Bros. Version. In all the other games, the theme represents the story of Samus Aran, the calm before the storm of every game. In Brawl, its a theme of absolute empowerment as Samus gets her suit back, and is ready to kick some serious ass.
The theme used in Brawl is technically the end credits/finale theme from Super Metroid, so that teeeechnically should be in here too. I always thought the surface theme after the rain stops in Super Metroid was her theme as well, but I think I was mistaken.
it's almost like hearing doom's music from the classics to eternal which is where it's referenced from, for Metroid, the theme I'm hearing right now is too a reference
