Steven is often a passive observer in those songs because his role in the group is the empath who picks up on how people are feeling. The songs are kind of a metaphor for Steven just being more observant of emotions than everyone else. You can imagine the show as a stylized retelling of more realistic events like that.ndersta

Steven Universe has a great ost. Both the song-songs and backing tracks are really good. If you do end up watching just know that the first season is kind of slow in terms of plot.

Yeah, definitely one of those shows that starts slow but becomes incredible.
I would suggest watching them in like 6 episode blocks so it doesn't feel like it's dragging on. Each episode 11 minutes long, so it's better binged.
people say first season is slow, but it's actually huge in terms of set up and world building.
Drift Away is such a goddamn powerful and emotional song, scientists are gonna be studying it for millenia LMAO

Here Comes a Thought changed my life. I came home from work the day it aired, angry and crying over something a customer wrongly accused me of. The way Ruby reacted to that little butterfly was how I felt all day. "Here comes a thought that might alarm you. What someone said, and how it harmed you." I was sobbing by the time it got to the end. "It's ok, I'm here..."
I think of it every time I get upset at work. It really helps.

No but fr I relate sm. I listen to this every time I'm overwhelmed or inconsolable. It's not just comforting, but also so genuine and non-invasive. It tells you how you can deal with the emotions without being condescending. It's beautiful.
If you want to hear some great songs from steven himself, I recommend giant woman, wherever you are, full disclosure, familiar, and no matter what. They will give you a good idea of how great he is at singing.

Whether you react to it or not, you should really watch the show. Especially when it comes to songs like Stronger Than You and Here Comes a Thought, they mean so much more when you have the actual context behind them rather than watching them stand-alone.
That analysis of Spinel and Pink was so far off it made me giggle, lol. You'll definitely need to watch the show and movie. I'd say avoid Future, but eh, I'd give it a watch anyway, it has some nice moments.
Also, Drift Away happens after Other Friends, so the second song you heard actually happens early on in the movie.

(Spoiler warning) Just for context, Steven is half human and half gem, gems are like extraterrestrial beings who travel from galaxy to galaxy to harvest resources. Different gems serve a different purpose (Rubies are bodyguards, Pearls are servants etc.) and their leaders are the Diamonds. Gems can fuse if they emotionally connect with each other too.

I have a huge attachment to the last song it’s not the best but it’s my favorite so as the character lapis is a gem to my eyes no pun attended lol. Also the girl singing with garnet is a fusion of Steven and the other little girl you see honestly I recommend listening at least once to we are the crystal gems it will show you the mane cast and let you know there aspirations and all ,hope you start this series ait can drag at some places but it’s definitely worth it.

The lyrics for these songs (especially Garnet's and Lapis') make so much more sense when you've seen the show. That's part of what makes them so powerful.

The giant pink lady is Pink Diamond and spinel was basically made for her to entertain her, so when she left spinel felt like pink diamond abandoned her. U just have to watch the show first before this movie

Spinel ain't a robot (spinel is the singer). She is a gem that was designed to be a playmate to that other pink gem (her name is Pink Diamond). Since Pink is basically a queen, Spinel is forced to follow every order she gives but pink abused this power and ordered Spinel to stand still until she came back, but she never did and abandonded Spinel and left her in the garden for 6000 years. She says "survived by her son" because Pink gave up her form (gems are made of light) and passed her gemstone to Steven, who is Half Human, Half Gem.
Spinel was basically made to be a playmate for pink diamond, the person she was clinging too, and survived by her son, pink diamond wanted to be known as Rose quartz and gave up her existence in order to create Steven, so the moment he was going to be born, she disappeared in order to make up his other half, gems like spinel and pink are literal projections of light, so in order for Steven to even live like a healthy person he needed the power that rose/pink had, if she hadn't done that, it'd been like making a child who's too weak to breathe, eat, etc
spinel (the pink gem with crying marks) is a very tragic character. imagine being completely abandon by your best friend, the friend saying "let's play a game, stay still here, I'll come back!" and then she never does for *thousands* of years. then you find out she had a whole life while you were dumbly sitting in that exact same spot thinking she'd come back. she had other friends, she had a lover, she had a son, and now she doesn't even exist anymore. as someone with abandonment issues spinels story and the song drift away never fail to make me cry
I personal favorite is “what’s the use of feeling blue”
So drift away the memories are from before other friends but the song other friends comes before drift away. drift away is spinel kinda giving her story to steven and other friends is like her "intro"

A few things! The girl in distant shore is Lapis Lazuli, not Pearl. The person singing with Garnet in Here Comes A Thought is Stevonnie, a fusion, like Garnet, between Steven and Connie(the girl with the long hair and overalls). And yea Other friends takes place WAYYY before Drift away.

The last singer's character is Lapis Lazuli (another Gem, but not a Crystal Gem)...her voice actor originally auditioned for Pearl's part.
Steven Universe is an amazing show which has some flaws like any show but it’s really great and I think you’d love it, it has some of the greatest emotional since I’ve ever seen on television so I really hope you watch it.
You chose good songs to cover, not just rhythm-wise but Other Friends and Here Comes a Thought were headed in animation by the brilliant Takafumi Hori!
now i know you probably know which songs were in order but for ones who dont know other friends was first before drift away, the reason while spinels heart was up in drift away because in other friends she had a scythe like you saw in the vid and when hit by it it would reset the gems to how they were made but steven also it spinel so thats why she looked like that in drift away and while singing the song she regained her memories and that how she changed back to her upsidedown heart look, if you still havent watched it then watch the movie since it would be important to know the full context.
Here comes a thought was a great song to teach children (and really anyone who was watching steven universe) about mindfulness. It's a useful tool
one of my favorite songs from steven universe is strong in the real way. I don't know if anyone has recommended it yet especially since it's one of the less popular steven universe songs.
The commentary on this makes it very clear just how much context you need about the world to make sense of Steven Universe. Drift Award hurts so much more when you understand what Steven is.

Alright I'm late to the party, but I have to say it : I'm so glad to see someone else who loves both Other Friends and Drift Away but has a preference for Drift Away ! I had never seen anyone mention the beat for Drift Away when indeed, it's so great to listen to, and the song is absolutely beautiful yet heartbreaking, even more when you know what's the full story behind this... (And yeah, Spinel is awesome)

i think you should watch the show! it touches on a numerous amount of topics that other kids shows wouldnt dare to. the first two songs you reacted to were from steven universe the movie. which takes place after steven universe. hbo max has the whole steven universe show on there so i recommend watching it there. right after watching steven universe you should watch steven universe the movie. and after you watch the movie, you should watch steven universe future. all of them together make a great franchise and its very much worth it when you know the context of everything
