Crazy coincidence that this video comes out like a week after I decided to learn Blender as well it's tough, but definitely much easier and less intimidating than it looks

Nodes are basically shaders which are basically a form of programming which is just a bunch of math. It's like trying to figure out how to take the square root of a number using only addition. That is my personal favourite part :3
Ah Blender, my eternal frenemy. I keep coming back to it, wanting to play around with all those fancy toys it offers, but I keep giving up, not because of difficulty, but because I find the process so tedious. Things that can be done in a few strokes in 2D instead require several minutes of manually manipulating vertices, while also needing to keep topology in mind. And that's before getting into materials.
Bro...when I saw the final render, no word of a lie, I nodded my head and said "Yes". The was very very decent man. Pretty sure I see animations like these all the time online man. This definitely fits and animation style, sort of stop motion like. Good work man, cant wait to see how your journey goes in due time dude!

I recommend trying toon shading. Its a really cool thing that makes your character have an outline or have simple base colors without shadows. You gan make it look like your 2d form WAY more
11:54 there I am, Gary, there I am! This video was so good, man. Ngl, it's super cool to see how good your stuff turned out in the first 3 days of working with it, and it's making me feel more confident jumping in, myself.
Aww! Glad to hear it went well. I'm gonna toss this vid in with my other art ref and inspiration videos. Planning on making a website with the knowledge I got from my semester. Not sure what kind of project I want to throw up on it yet, but I'm glad everyone's getting creative this time off the year.
I'm now 6-7 months into my Blender journey and I feel this video on a personal level haha. It is so enticing to immediately start to work on the projects you want to work on, but it's a dangerous route to take. Blender is a jack of all trades program that can do a lot of things, though you're gonna use this software by the 80/20 rule (80% of your time for 20% of the tools, and also viceversa). Learning this program will require **a lot** of patience, but imo it is patience that's well spent. It'll save you a lot of headache later down the line. To share my personal experience with Blender, I didn't impose a deadline on myself but instead defined my broader goal for what I want to use Blender for (character models for games like VRChat, BRC etc). I took the time to make a small goals list and work my way down that list. Now 5 months later (few week breaks inbetween) I can finally start working on the stuff that I actually want. It took long but I am having a much better time modeling now thanks to studying at a pace I was comfortable with.

That animation was fucking amazing, I loved the RuneScape reference with the choppy animation, the voxel aesthetics and the lighting was GREAT!!! Amazing job, 10/10, 5 donuts out of 5, and a quarter of a thin crust pizza from little caesars out of the rest of it!!
You did a pretty amazing job for your first time. I have some blender experience, but I've had a pretty hard time getting into digital drawing myself tbh, but seeing people pick up things they never thought they could and having fun with it really inspired me to continue tbh.
Omg this video TRULY speaks to me cus like as someone who is trying to make models of their ocs for some videos, I DO NOT KNOW HOW TF PEOPLE DO IT!!! Like every time i open blender on my mac i want to cry. But these recommendations are pretty good!
I planned for an ambitious year, to finish projects I abandoned before, jump passed fears of failure and fears of feeling stupid to learn new skills, and to set it up so that I could be a free lancer. I only found out that blender was free this year, and only figured out that it could be useful for me through a TH-camr who uses it for her art, and decided to learn blender. So when you talked about only liking 2D and weren't interested in 3D stuff, I related to that a lot. I'm hoping to make background assets for my comics and general illustrations. It was nice to watch someone else begin learning blender, too. Made the process of learning it a little less overwhelming.
Watching your struggle and determination of learning Blender does inspire me to tackle this beast! ❤🔥 I downloaded the program a year ago and never really touched it. I'm happy to see you were able to overcome basics and had a good time on it
I was really hoping this was going to get me to try 3D and make it seem less daunting. . .It seems more daunting to me now. The reason is, I thought you were going to tackle it on your own, which you mostly did but you had help from fans and friends. That is really good, it's great that you have people that will assist you with your journey! I have only used videos which are usually very long and somewhat draining. I do appreciate the encouragement to not only try 3D but also other things that are on the list! But gonna give it a shot. Thank you for the video. It was cool and your character is cute.

I started 3D modelling in 2021 out of fun to learn how to make a videogame. I fell in love and now I even earn a little pocket money with my models. Just like you, I had to learn a lot the hard way, like the image files just dissapearing, I understand every stage of grief you went through. I spent 10 hours texture painting, only to realise, that the file isn't saved within Blender. And after all this time, I still don't know what a node is. I never touched the shading tab. I am still scared of it, even as an expert. I also don't really need uv unwrapping. I only click smart uv project and paint it on the model. I also need to go to physical therapy for my neck and soulders. Turns out, modelling for 10 hours straight changes your anatomy
Im in a class for 3d animation and its.. its so hard, but its not a bad starting point. I recomend it to anyone trying to break into the industry. I never thought id do 3d animation, but when it was 3d animation or graphic design... i was kinda forced, but i dont regret it. Also its very good on a portfolio for gaming and animation.

Kudos yo you for sticking with it! I've been wanting to learn Blender for a long time now, but I never got around to it. This video gives me hope that it won't be as tedious as I thought when I finally get around to it.
I REALLY LOVE UR CONTENT, I WISH I FOUND U EARLIER. It’s something about your character and the way everything just feels like watching cartoons on a Saturday with a bowl of cereal. Please make more videos
This is so cool! You did such a good job! Ive been wanting to learn blender but im so used to using my drawing tablet for everything and it doesn't like blender one bit but i refuse to use my mouse and keys 🤣🤣🤣 Also love the stickers on your computer you did!!
When I was learning blender I did it as dry as possible an read the unofficially handbook twice. It took me 80h before I first tried doing any actual models. But after 6 month I was pretty semi in every aspect. Except animation nodes since those didn't exist back in the day.
gonna be real, I'm so jealous that your first character model looks so good 9:55 LOL My first few character models looks like deformed beans Your art style in 2D and 3D is so cute and appealing!! Keep up the great work
Thanks for that! I’m feeling inspired to get back to learning Blender again. I had stopped out of frustration btw, but I’m ready to give it another try!!
i have an art degree and tinkered with digital art for well over a decade now and like you, i've been wanting to learn blender for a while. i *attempted* (i.e., opened the program, dicked around for 5 minutes and closed it LMAO) to learn it, but got immediately overwhelmed and haven't tried it since. seeing you tackle this in just 3 days makes me want to try again. thank you for sharing your experience and giving me the confidence to give it another shot!
this was lowkey motivating but also terrifying bc i've been thinking to try out blender after seeing folks make low poly charas on tiktok like i wanna make my silly lil fellas 3d too but MAN 😭💀
GOD this is making me REALLY wanna actually get out of my comfort zone and give blender a shot! I’ve been itching to do that for YEAAAARS!!! Fantastic video yo, I had a blast watching this!!!
If you have issues with rotation going the wrong direction or twisting weird when animating, try making sure the quaternion rotation value is animated correctly. There's a thing called gimbal lock that's an issue with 3D (and higher dimension) rotating that doesn't exist in 2D. Quaternion rotation is basically using 4D rotation values so you can interpolate linearly. You don't have to understand the math behind it, the basic version is that it uses 4 numbers to give you a position on a sphere and a roll value so the computer doesn't have to deal with gimbal lock
Very interesting video to watch as a working 3D artist. I'd like to be an art teacher some day! so its super fun to theorize how to best introduce people to this kind of software based on your experience. Thank you for sharing!
for someone that knows nothing about blender and has been wanting to get into it this is so inspiring!! i would love to see more of this kinda video :3
i love this silly little gooberrr. this is just amazing to watch you learn these things. it kinda inspired me to learn blender but like... i make music, and idk if id be able to stay motivated learning blender X3
Wow, amazing job with that, I've been working for half a year and your already better than I am with Blender, so great job dude, keep up the good work!
Welcome to the blending scene! Amongst my inspirations was Worthikids half a decade ago, and since then I've gotten better at blending, and most recently delved into the geonode rabbit hole Its satisfying watching the code coalesce into a 3d parametric form, and you can have some wacky interactions :D
lol this is great to see bc it reminds me of how I gave up blender (2.6~ something) at age 15-16-17 or so after a week xD (and returned to it with blender 2.76 or so at age 25+ haha) blender is hard to speedrun so it's really impressive to see you did in 3 days!! Congrats! :D btw, fun fact (u might already know): the og club penguin animations were actually also animated without onion skin! and without bones :) there's a youtube video out where the animator/character modeler/cool guy doing everything talks about it.
excellent work jacadamia, really love that you were able to get yourself to do all this work and learn something that started as so intimidating to you. makes me wish i could do the same, and reminds me its possible
Congratulations on joining us on Blender Nation; And yeah, nodes can he a bit intimidating at first glance, but its a very powerful tool for incredibly good looking materials; One way to explain it its Lego blocks or Puzzle pieces for building the material;

Kudos yo you for sticking with it! I've been wanting to learn Blender for a long time now, but I never got around to it. This video gives me hope that it won't be as tedious as I thought when I finally get around to it.
13:43 bro actually speaks my language
Loved this video! Inspires me to actually try my hand at video editing again. Definitely love your vibe, so I'll be watching more!
6:24 Gasp! There is me!
I REALLY LOVE UR CONTENT, I WISH I FOUND U EARLIER. It’s something about your character and the way everything just feels like watching cartoons on a Saturday with a bowl of cereal. Please make more videos
Now we have to blend 3d Macamo to appease the Blender gods
This is so cool! You did such a good job! Ive been wanting to learn blender but im so used to using my drawing tablet for everything and it doesn't like blender one bit but i refuse to use my mouse and keys 🤣🤣🤣
Also love the stickers on your computer you did!!
2:08 MOTHER 3 MENTIONED‼️‼️
yesssssYesssssssss ahahahsns5wuedejwjvwyvtjwtwtjvstjcncywvqtcswuwwuvejwgwnywjcswfwghaahgjavahjfakagj *dies*
Im a mother 3 supremacist
Hey wo want to learn a powerfuk pk technice❤
When I was learning blender I did it as dry as possible an read the unofficially handbook twice. It took me 80h before I first tried doing any actual models.
But after 6 month I was pretty semi in every aspect. Except animation nodes since those didn't exist back in the day.
2:25 i got the wordplay don't worry :3
gonna be real, I'm so jealous that your first character model looks so good 9:55 LOL My first few character models looks like deformed beans
Your art style in 2D and 3D is so cute and appealing!! Keep up the great work
2:42 But can it run Doom?
Dude, as a Blender artist myself, you did spectacular!
You learned more in 3 days than I have in nearly two years.
Bravo man. Bravo.
2:51 You sound like stewie griffin here lol
This is SO GOOD for just 3 days. Fr, I guess it helps that you come from a artistic background but still really impressive
Thanks for that! I’m feeling inspired to get back to learning Blender again. I had stopped out of frustration btw, but I’m ready to give it another try!!
yaay! Go for it!
i have an art degree and tinkered with digital art for well over a decade now and like you, i've been wanting to learn blender for a while. i *attempted* (i.e., opened the program, dicked around for 5 minutes and closed it LMAO) to learn it, but got immediately overwhelmed and haven't tried it since. seeing you tackle this in just 3 days makes me want to try again. thank you for sharing your experience and giving me the confidence to give it another shot!
This really motivated me to start Blender
this was lowkey motivating but also terrifying bc i've been thinking to try out blender after seeing folks make low poly charas on tiktok
like i wanna make my silly lil fellas 3d too but MAN 😭💀
@@unsterino go for it!! Everyone starts somewhere :3
GOD this is making me REALLY wanna actually get out of my comfort zone and give blender a shot! I’ve been itching to do that for YEAAAARS!!! Fantastic video yo, I had a blast watching this!!!
Do it!! I'm rooting for you!! and thanks :3
@ thank you Jaca. I hope I actually pull through 🥹
i really want to as well,, last time i tried it was with a rather complex (for me at least) character tutorial and i just could not lol
This was a very fun video to watch. Gj on your progress with blender
Damnn, ik the video is about 3D stuff, but your 2D is absolute FIRE smooth and pretty. Funny humor and jokes, Glad I've found your channel :D
Aw thank you!
Onion skinning for 3D is such a good idea I'm surprised Blender doesn't have it already
for someone that knows nothing about blender and has been wanting to get into it this is so inspiring!! i would love to see more of this kinda video :3
i love this silly little gooberrr. this is just amazing to watch you learn these things. it kinda inspired me to learn blender but like... i make music, and idk if id be able to stay motivated learning blender X3
Wow, amazing job with that, I've been working for half a year and your already better than I am with Blender, so great job dude, keep up the good work!
Welcome to the blending scene!
Amongst my inspirations was Worthikids half a decade ago, and since then I've gotten better at blending, and most recently delved into the geonode rabbit hole
Its satisfying watching the code coalesce into a 3d parametric form, and you can have some wacky interactions :D
lol this is great to see bc it reminds me of how I gave up blender (2.6~ something) at age 15-16-17 or so after a week xD (and returned to it with blender 2.76 or so at age 25+ haha) blender is hard to speedrun so it's really impressive to see you did in 3 days!! Congrats! :D
btw, fun fact (u might already know): the og club penguin animations were actually also animated without onion skin! and without bones :) there's a youtube video out where the animator/character modeler/cool guy doing everything talks about it.
excellent work jacadamia, really love that you were able to get yourself to do all this work and learn something that started as so intimidating to you. makes me wish i could do the same, and reminds me its possible
Congratulations on joining us on Blender Nation;
And yeah, nodes can he a bit intimidating at first glance, but its a very powerful tool for incredibly good looking materials;
One way to explain it its Lego blocks or Puzzle pieces for building the material;
I swear I’ll watch your videos just to look at the art style sometimes. It looks so cartoony and bouncy and pleasing to the eye! I wish I could draw like that…
