Royals won it in 85 and the Mets won it in 86 so both teams wanted a ring and the Royals knew what needed to be done to take it all especially since they lost the year before to the Giants. I definitely think KC deserved it and I'm not trying to be biased because I'm a Royals fan. Trust me, i felt bad that Wright and the Mets organization didn't get a ring. I would have liked to see them go back and win it in 2016 or 2017 but they couldn't get back to the big dance. I think they will eventually though

      @@evilleon4 yeah this sums it up well. KC deserved a title, they came back from down four in an elimination game to prove it. Not to be rude to mets fans, who have been through similar struggles as royals fans (both teams are in the same state as baseball dynasties) but the mets would have won if not for the fact that Bobby Bonilla was earning more money than most of the 2015 Mets roster

    You probably don't hear this a lot from Yankee fans like me David Wright with a great player probably one of the best third baseman in the game it's just his career got cut short because of injuries I'd like to say thank you for all those memories I got the watch you you will be missed by the med fans you will always be known as the Mets captain and one of the greatest Mets of all time

    Even as a Phillies fan, I can't help but respect the hell out of David Wright. He's was such a great and gritty player, and is such a wonderful human being. I hope to see him in Cooperstown one day.

    David Wright has always been one of my favorite players. He plays the game the right way and is always a class act. He’s the kind of player you want your kids to play like. Too bad injuries ruined another career.

    Been a yankee fan all my life, but I never once rooted against this man. All class since day one and one of the best 3rd baseman in their primes I’ve ever seen. Since the jump I hoped he succeeded and I wish they coulda got him that ship in 2015. Nothing but the utmost respect for a guy like him. Legend.

    For years David Wright was my favorite baseball player gonna miss watching him play. Injuries ruined what was going to be a Hall of Fame career.

    Easily one of the best overall players great fielder he was the best at it nobody was close to the level that David Wright played at the 2005 to 2014 era I grew up with jeter but David Wright also inspired me we are saying goodbye to many legends I hate injurys but they exist make that one last game count

      reyes' unhealthy presence makes everyone around him significantly worse. no team can win with reyes and the culture he brings to the dugout of dancing around before games, laughing when the team is losing...if not for reyes wright would have a better career.

    Big New York baseball kid, the Yankees were my favorite team, but wright was always my favorite player, I’ll always remember him for his Homerun and bases loaded hit in the World Series

    As a Mets fan, I was proud to have the captain and when he retired it was heartbreaking but I understood his decision completely. Thank you for everything Captain David we'll never forget you #CaptainDavid

    For a 17 year old from the Bronx who grew up loving the mets, David Wright is the mets and they won't be the same without him. It's the reason why 5 is my favorite number till this day

    Thanks for all the amazin' memories Dave. My first met game you hit not one but two long homeruns over the left field wall. We unfortunately lost due to a grandslam given up by Oliver Perez... but non the less you made that game fun to watch. Your the man, the myth, the met legend. #5 David Wright

    I have been crying all day about his retirement and I just wanna say that David Wright has been my favorite player for my entire life and he was a terrific player and I wish him luck in the rest of his life. You will be missed and I hope you enjoyed being a met because we enjoyed having you.

    Not a Met fan, but I can appreciate a great player and a great person. It sucks that he has to end his career like that, but he ended it as a great Met player. It's good on the Mets organization to retire his number.

    It sucks so much that his back was hurt for the past half decade. He was a respectable role model for so many young men and one is left with the feeling that he deserved more to end his career. Great ballplayer, but an even greater man.

    David Wright deserves all the respect in the world. Easily a top 10 third basemen and the best Mets player in history. A class act on and off the field and was never shy to impress. Respect for my captain❤️

    Forever our Captain. It's heartbreaking that his career was cut short due to Spinal Stenosis. Thank you for the memories! We almost had that elusive title in 2015.

    A truly great player. Some pretty serious injuries stopped him from having a potential HoF career. He's been the lifesblood of that franchise for over a decade, it'll be interesting to see who steps up in his absence. Conforto would be my pick.

    The Mets version of Don Mattingly. A guy who did everything right and though cheated by fate they ultimately had a lot of success in the toughest market in the country. Fabulous fielder and a pure hitter. He deserved better. That's kind of what makes him a modern day hero. The tinge of tragedy to the brilliance.
