Congrats on getting this set. I really enjoy my Franklin. And I didn't know about the display box trick. Fifty Years of Progress in Railroading (F.Y. & P.R.R.)

@@MygrandpasTrain Please look inside the tender case, if it is stamped with "Fifty years of Progress", It was one of the first fifty made. That's what FY&P means :)

@@edf7008 My Tender is not stamped with that, unfortunately. Thanks for watching!

I received that set for Christmas on 1960. In the last '90s I bought another one. My son now has the first one, I sold the second one shortly after buying it. Cosmetically, it looks like you have a very good set.

Well I managed to hide the cosmetic damage in this video. In the rebuild next week, it will not look this good.

A really cool set. Pity the previous owners didn't take better care of the box.
I live about 8 miles from the Gilbert factory. It still stands. Being used by other businesses.

Who knew that boxes would be important all these years later...

A very charming set- with the box no less!!
Curious it has that Gilbert HO document in it. I was fascinated to learn that Gilbert sold an HO version of this set. Seems like they simply had Tyco make a special run of their 'general' 4-4-0 and old time passenger cars, with the FY&P markings. Very tough to find train.
    Hope the repair goes well...

This was my first train, (Christmas 1960) although it only had two cars. The baggage car was an extra. You could have bought it separately or with a special coupon, got it for free! It came with a passenger car and a half baggage - half passenger car. I'm in the process rebuilding/repairing it and am waiting for some parts. Yes the box ahhhh I had my box for a long time but... I have no idea what became of it. Looking forward to your video, especially how you will get the "Choo- Choo" back together. :). Have a good one.

Looks like you have a train set in nice condition appearance wise.
It also will not pass through the passenger terminal (see Austin's video) unless you modify the assembly of the terminal shed to raise the roof.

There is something cosmetically wrong with this engine. It didn't show up in this video.
I saw Austins video on that. I also don't have a passenger terminal. (Yet). This set came with the black trestle pieces, which I compared to my orange trestle and the black set is at least 1/2" taller!

You should wrap your track up in newspaper so that it doesn't scratch your locomotive and cars.

That's a good idea. I have the track and cars stored separately now. How they appear in the video is how I found the box. Plus there is way more track in this set than it originally had.

If you use the trestle set, you will need the truck locks.
