  • First few minutes of Oklahoma Annie. Judy Canova queen of the cowgirls! and yes, that is a very young Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse) at the end of the clip.

For those of you that don't seem to know, Judy Canova was a much loved hillbilly comedienne who was the inspiration to many who came after her, including Minnie Pearl and June Carter Cash. She had a career that lasted four decades. Here she is out of character, in a good looking 1930s fishing outfit and camera...

Loved this flick as a kid. I taped it on a Beta Tape from KDOC 56 in Anaheim CA when I was a teen, still have the tape but nothing to play it on.

AF is S-gauge, 1" between the rails. I grew up on them. Lionel is O / 1.5"; hence, HO is half-O. etc...

Rick Evans me but I bet that it would have been cool and fun to have an American flyer train but in the meantime, I’m sticking with my Lionel

Wow! Almost $87.00 for that model train set, and an American Flyer at that! Today, you couldn't buy that same layout for that price. Back then, $87.00 was alot of money for that layout.

Notice the Plasticville house and station considered acceptable for O and S gauge.

@kgtrains Exactly my thought before I saw your comment. Oy vey, voice and face equally matched. If it weren't for the train, I probably would not have had to listen and see this. Oh, pardon my manners, nice train!

Oh man! That was painful, but the train was almost worth the aural misery. Hard to imagine someone thought it was a good idea to put that woman on screen, then let her sing! Maybe she was good on the casting couch...if ya close your eyes and she doesn't talk. (OK so I'm bad. I admit it.)

What was that, broke back singing?

The train was almost worth tolerating the singing! They should have used a Union Pacific locomotive rather than a Pennsylvania.

On my website, americanflyerdisplays.org, I have links to this and a lot of other videos under the tab "Gilbert goes Hollywood." My advice as to this clip is this, and I quote, "The general consensus is that this clip is best enjoyed with the sound muted."
