    In the 50s and 60s you might have leisurely visited the races, cars and drivers. Enjoying a glass of beer in style. The 70s just did not know how bloody dangerous they really were in all aspects. Then it gradually morphes into a fullsize slotcar ambience. Anyway, its still there all that sights and sounds.

    I watched your compilation of wrecks video earlier today and a BIG question remains...
    Why so many wrecks at this turn?
    The course is uphill and, theoretically, the car is being forced into the ground, therefore, maximum traction...
    Great video's and a new subscriber. Keep them coming!

    • @chrissim4386
      @chrissim4386 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Johan P Easy to answer: You drive straight, then comes a left corner, then the right which is uphill and then you turn left again, and you can't see the left corner there, you go almost blind into it.
      You have to steer left because you know that there's the corner, not because you actually see.
      This is why the corner is very frightening

    • @patrickvanasbroeck303
      @patrickvanasbroeck303 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrissim4386 they should install a few cameras in the kerbs along the curve. That would give a better impression about the speed, visibilty and the forces on the car.

      @kobedemuelenaere4378 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sorry for the late response, it's actually the end of radillion that is the tricky part. As mentioned above it's a blind corner because it's on top of the hill. As it is on top of the hill you have less grip there as you're kinda 'flying' above the track.

    • @BornAgainCynic0086
      @BornAgainCynic0086 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the bottom, max traction, but also your suspension is bottomed out, then as you "guess" your way near the top your car is unweighted and you cant see the corner. All that is providing you are not balls deep into the back of the car infront where your aero is completely screwed.

    Remember the 1994 modification where a chicane was put in. This came about in the aftermath of Senna's death. Something of a 'knee-jerk' personally. Drivers hated it. Commonsense soon prevailed & Eau Rouge was back to it's former glory the following year & has remained untampered since.

    Il est grand temps de revenir à cette configuration des années 60 pour ce magnifique ensemble de virages que formaient le virage de l’eau rouge et l.attaque du raidillon, le premier, beaucoup plus prononcé que maintenant , conditionnait réellement la prise du second.....et réduisait sa vitesse d’attaque.....

    The onwers destroyed the curve in all possible aspects...they making it even worst to avoid and accident...the old one was a lot open to tge left and the driver had to slow down to get it...circa 81, 82 they "closed" the track to give space for a barrier on the out side, making it faster....the old one was two or three times opened than now..And today the cars escape on it on later on just because it s possible not breaking in the straight prior it

    • @OsellaSquadraCorse
      @OsellaSquadraCorse 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonmcmillan4373 It was changed most in 1970 when they cut off the inside of the corner to make it a kink leading onto Raidillon, rather than a corner in its own right - this was to move the apex away from the bridge supports on the outside; part of the Jackie Stewart safety crusade.
      A lot of the 80's changes were actually to the old s/f straight (which was moved to where it is now in 1981), changing the pit wall and the secondary pitlane exit. The track itself didn't change; but the construction of the pit wall on the downhill pitlane makes it look like it did!
      The irony of 1994 was that it actually made Eau Rouge back into a corner again, more like it was in the 1950's; but was universally condemned (despite what happened to Zanardi being very fresh in people's minds, and hence it being deemed 'too dangerous' in the second wave of safety campaigns.

      The entire track was resurfaced in-between; more tarmac was added to the Raidillon runoff, but the inside radius wasn't changed.
      The resurfacing broke up in the heat of the original race week, so the race was postponed to later in the year - giving us the late summer date that it still holds on the modern F1 calendar.
