I heard this beast at full throttle at Spa against the V10 McLaren Honda with Senna at the wheel. Scary, adrenalin pumping, almost fear at the sound. The Ferrari had a higher pitch engine note and the Honda just sounded brutal. Both cars flying up through Eau Rouge screaming will stay with me for the rest of my life. How F1 should sound.
I don't know if you've ever heard the V12 sing in person, because you can have the best sound system in the world, but the high frequency sound pressure that entered the stomach and even vibrated the ground under your feet, a video will never return it.

Same for me. First ever visit to the British GP approaching the gates to get in and hearing a Ferrari V12 going down the pit straight at full chat in warm up. That sound brought a tear of joy to my eye that day and I've never forgotten it. Emotional not like now. Prefer my bike racing these days.
A McLaaren fan myself.... yet I do appreciate the sounds of all engines V10 and higher. The V8's and lower really cut the heart out of F1.... I don't know the stats but I do believe the V10s reved higher than the V-12s... I remember when Honda reached 20k RPM in a V-10...
Nice comment. Yes, the V10's were the highest spinning engines but only because V12's were no longer around after 1995. V12's ran higher rpm's but were very thirsty so teams decided to use V10's.
Schumacher did race in 1991 but it was for Jordan as a replacement, certainly not for Ferrari which he moved to in '96. The Golden days of the schumacher era were the years 2000-2004, I think Jyoshil Pitamber was thinking that this Ferrari was from '94 or '95 which could be considered golden days for schumacher too when he drove and won the championships with Benetton.
Even though, F1 cars are breaking records in several tracks the latest years with less cylinders, the sound of the V12 it's really incredible, that is the real sound of the F1, it is what sounds in my head at least.
I remember these cars at Adelaide GP, we would watch from under the grandstand at the end of pit straight and you knew these cars were coming because they had such a distinctive sound, it was as if they were Revving twice as hard, such a beautiful sound

Steve Matchett talks about the Ferrari mechanics warming these up in the morning during the early 90s seasons until they got to temp and then cracking the throttle he reckons the sound was the envy of all the teams

I last heard this sound live at British GP 1990. During the race I closed my eyes as the cars roared past Abbey curve and I could tell which cars were the Ferrari V12s with semi auto gearbox. I could also recall the Benetton Ford V8s with manual gearbox by contrast sounded just like plumbing noise. The golden era of F1 definitely.

Monza 1991, mon premier GP de F1, 17 ans. La folie des tifosis, voir ces bolides pour la première fois et ce son, ce chant hallucinant du V12 Ferrari conduite par mes deux pilotes préférés. Au bout de la ligne droite juste avant la parabolica, les F1 arrivaient à pleine charge. Un souvenir magique... Le chant du V12 Honda était aussi superbe, un chouia plus rauque il me semble. Même les V10 faisaient pale figure et je ne parle pas des "frelons" V8 Ford. Et puis, cette 643, une des plus belle F1 de tous les temps, malgré des performances pas terribles. La F1, c'est le bruit, je suis bien d'accord avec Vettel. Les F1 actuelles sont bein fades.

It was a time and era for F1 when it was at its best, absolutely the most powerful that has been seen with F1 cars. I hope they go back to V12 or V10 because only the sound is half bit with F1
Definitely a great sound. Maybe because I came of age during the V10 era, I prefer those engines. They are just a bit raspier, but scream at the high frequency. Excellent. Late 80’s to late 90’s will probably go down as the golden age of F1, before engine downsizing, grooved tires and general castration of the open technical development. I hope I am wrong...

For me it's one of the most beautiful one as well. All the best things about Formula One in the early 90s can be found on this car.

It was a time and era for F1 when it was at its best, absolutely the most powerful that has been seen with F1 cars. I hope they go back to V12 or V10 because only the sound is half bit with F1

Definitely a great sound. Maybe because I came of age during the V10 era, I prefer those engines. They are just a bit raspier, but scream at the high frequency. Excellent. Late 80’s to late 90’s will probably go down as the golden age of F1, before engine downsizing, grooved tires and general castration of the open technical development. I hope I am wrong...

@@ml-dl6yj that's definitely a 4 cylinder engine of some kind. Didn't sound like a V6 at all. And definitely not a turbo V6 of the current F1 era. Not saying the V6 sounds good, but that car sounded like a 4 cylinder.

Best sounding F1 car of all time. IMHO the late 80's & 90's was the greatest era of motorsport. Exponentially more exciting than the racing we watch today...
