  • Motorcyclist magazine's Road Test Editor Ari Henning modifies a 2011 Honda CBR250R for Production 250 racing. Ari adds go-fast parts from Bazzaz, Leo Vince, Woodcraft and Hotbodies Racing, and then rolls onto the starting grid at Thunderhill Raceway to see how the new Honda stacks up against the reigning 250 class king, the Kawasaki Ninja 250. Does the single-cylinder Honda pose a threat to the twin-cylinder Kawasaki? Watch this episode and find out!

    I am old enough and lucky enough to have the 1989 CBR 250R. The 4 cyl version that revs to 19,000 with 45 bhp as standard :-)

      @Kiran Kumar Patro No, the RR is the MC22, I have the MC17 Hurricane and a MC19 250 R, basically same engine in all and all produce the same power. :-)

    It's very pleasing to see and hear from someone who appreciates a single-cylinder motorcycle! The best bike I had was a Honda CB 250 RS, which on a tight, twisty road could embarrass bikes four-times its capacity. Singles are OK.

      I ride a duke 390 and it also has a single and man this thing really pulls!
      For sure a fun bike and with my akrapovic exhaust with the noise-killer removed it even Sounds pretty brutal!

    The 250 class was the most fun and well balanced I knew in the early '60s. Parillas, Ducatis, and Aermacchis were the order of the day and all were running about the same horsepower (in the street legal versions) stock (about 26hp) as you were in the video but many were over 30 hp for the track - they were lighter too. It's amazing the best 250 single of the period could do, about 42 hp from the factory Morini of about the mid '60s. Hope to see more of your project Honda, looks sassy and must be fun.

    I have a cbr 250 2012 here in brasil and it came from factory with 26 cv/hp.
    Cool and cheap bike. Not that confortable, feel pain in the nuts sometimes but yeah, its a sport bike.
    Also got a motard to ride during week so my nuts can have a pause when it comes about being massacred in a hot and harsh enviroment (sport bikes riding)

  • @schalke04chester

    Looks really fun even with those small bikes. Now i am seriously thinking about getting a small trackbeater bike for the weekend :D
    But if you want to shredd those Ninjas you should try racing on a KTM Rc390, if this bike is allowed in this particular class!
    Anyway another great Video from you guys, keep the good work up and make the Video a bit longer next time! :P

    Fun to ride, though if I could go back and stop myself from purchasing a cbr 250, most definitely would have. My impatience of finally getting on a bike and lure of a good deal got the best of me. Then they go and produce the 300, oh well, someday.

    Holy shit, the race built cbr250r, weighs 310 pounds, and the new cb300r, weighs 317, from the factory. Shit mines still mostly stock, and weighs something like 285ish last I weighed it.

    • @EllaBananas
      @EllaBananas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh huh, he did that hand tuck thing when trying to top out the bike. Tried that today, an it legit helped a bit, ran out of flat road at 98, but I think she would've made it to 100 given a couple hundred more feet.

    • @DRS0395
      @DRS0395 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EllaBananas hey, how much were you able to squueze out?
      I have a '12 and got it up to 108mph (174km/h) on flat - am yet too redline it, will probably do that with the wind behind me

    • @EllaBananas
      @EllaBananas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DRS0395 100 is as fast as the cb300r is willing to go without a gear ratio change. I'm hitting rev limiter in 6th at exactly 100 on the dash, ofc its probably a few mph slower than that, since the dash is a bit optimistic. The cb300r is geared hella low, so changing the gearing would likely net me a bit more.

    • @EllaBananas
      @EllaBananas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But this bike is way more fun between 0-50 than it is when youre riding it wide open on the highway at 100.

    • @DRS0395
      @DRS0395 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EllaBananas I fully agree, it tends to get monotonous on the highway even though you're still hauling.
      City riding is amazing on this thing, it makes me reluctant to move up a cc-class seeing how the bigger bikes never leave 2nd between lights.
      Safe riding ma dude!

  • @JETZcorp
    @JETZcorp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder exactly what is legal in that class (but don't care enough to search it). For example, if you wanted to take a YZ250, port it a bit for 50hp+, then lower it on street tires, is that legal? Or what if you tried to show up on a vintage RD250 with new shocks, fork emulators, expansion chambers, and a fairing? That engine is not so different from a Banshee. If that was legal in the class, I think the deficit in handling would be well offset by having nearly double the power.

    • @JoshuaTootell
      @JoshuaTootell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's 4 stroke 250, 2 strokes 125. So no YZ. And since it is production class, you can't port the motor either.
