      On the original engine/turbo?!?!

    • @Artiick
      @Artiick หลายเดือนก่อน

@Edizzle15 ye sorta. He had it resurfaced after changing the head gasket around the 400k mark and even our trusty mechanic was surprised by how good it looked even after that many kms. Besides that, dad always took care of his cars. Regular engine oil changes, coolant changes, transmission checks, spark plugs, belts. Original turbo was a bit rough and started to sorta kick dirt around the 500k if I remember correctly but it wasn't really a key component. Air Con died early tho at around 200k. Pump failed fully and he just never bothered getting that replaced as we live in northern Italy and it gets really really hot only a few times of the year during mid-summer.
Made a few brake changes, I think twice the rotors, and ofc the pads a few more times. And twice the clutch/friction plate. Not sure if he ever got to change the flywheel or he ever got it resurfaced.
After all it was just a very easy going daily driver. Not much stress or heat buildup in the components.
And ye that's about it mechanical.
He swapped the center console for a more modernised version with digital radio (back in 2010) and had built a 5.1 sound system with a big 2k watt sub with a custom resonance chamber using about half of the boot space.
What else... Hummm. Windshield wipers changed a few times, a broken rear view mirror once. And not much else that I can recall. Oh ye I almost forgot. He had made a hole where the rear seats hand rest was, for his fishing rods 🤣.

@@tony66au Well, I have some clips chasing a Porsche GT4 and wet laps as the C70 is the ultimate car for it. Stock form they really suck tbh... Comfort and cruising yes, straight line performance is great. But for cornering you really need coilovers, improve braking, good tires, sway bars, polybushings, making that chassis stiffer. The rear kicked out quite a few times, and if it wasn't for the upgraded sway bar I would not have been able to save it. They are great on track but you have to build them.

Was that the servo pump crying for it's life? You can hear it too when he turns on the car to show the width of the front tyre. Love these sleeper family cars, 850 V70 T5 engines are loverly. Color is also nice. The chap was also a great driver. High five for both of you.

I love the low hum this enine has when car is slowing down, sounds very satisfying for some reason.
P.S. If someone says: "Idiot, those were tires, not the engine!" I don't care, it just sounds right.

Nice nod to us folks down-under in your The Bend jacket Misha, Volvo threw their hat into the V8SC ring a few years back, the flat plain crank V8 was a songbird. The Cyan/Garry Rogers Motorsport outfit uncovered a new talent at the time Scott McLaighlin now driving for Penske's IndyCar team...

Imagine buying a GT4RS and it still takes you almost half a lap to shake the massive old brick of a Volvo wagon that filled your rearview at mach speed within the first few corners.

I had a tuned saffron gold pearl V70R manual just like this, it was a fantastic machine once I'd given it the maintenance its previous owners neglected to do!
It did feel heavy, but it was also surprisingly nimble and went where you pointed it with a crescendo of 5 cylinder noise. It shot flames 4ft out the back sometimes too... 😂
Very very easy to get in trouble on public roads because you always want to give it another gear. It would go off the clock if you weren't careful. On a derestricted autobahn naturally!

I have lots of similar mods on my 1997 Volvo C70 T5. In april I had the same encounter with a GT4 from Schmitz curve to Flugplatz. 👌😁 Great content, really love it.

The only good thing about the v70r being front wheel drive was that it later meant you got the all wheel drive, had they stuck with RWD we would have never Got the V70 AWD 👍

That btcc DNA is showing. And in my opinion volvo did the fwd really well in there early fwd cars i owned a S40 1.9 T4 from 1998 and it didnt act like a fwd car miss that car still had around 320hp

The S40 didn't drive like a Volvo bc it had a Mitsubishi platform.. I've had many 850's and after that a S40. It was such a smooth ride
