How could you ever think that guy in America was legit, casually selling chirons for 2mil, black badge rolls for 140 grand, Huracan STO for 300grand... It was a dead giveaway
More people need to see content like this! Remember the old adage "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is". People generally aren't in the business of giving hand outs to strangers, so something selling for a fraction of the market value with no obvious flaws, you better believe its a scam!
I was always told a couple of things when I started buying things online. "If you have to pay a deposit, stay away." "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is." And most important I remember my dad saying: "Never send more money to someone you dont know and havent met with face to face, than you can afford to potentially lose"
As my mum always used to tell me "if it sounds too good to be true, it is" Don't let your heart rule your head, take a moment, have a think, sleep on it.
This is why I buy cars from dealerships near where I live. It's hard to take my second most expensive purchase for it to be lost to fraudsters. You pay a little extra, but the safety net of even a stolen car, you get covered. Dealerships don't want a reputation selling stolen cars. Great idea at the end of a video call. A truthful person would have the call knowing it's a large purchase for the customer.
Honestly if you're buying a £300.000 investment, just fly over or fly someone else over to check it out in person. You don't skip on insurance if the money is important to you.
Absolutely the right thing to do. I’d rather miss out on 10 bargains and pay a bit more, than get stung for thousands of pounds by some scam artist. Unfortunately in today’s society people will risk everything to have the most flashy, expensive, sought after items in the hope of impressing others, most of who they don’t even know 🙄
Found a really great niche of car content in the last few videos and I’m really enjoying it. I use niche as a compliment - giving content that I haven’t seen before in the cluster fuck of content that is car focused TH-cam Keep it up mate!
I once intervened when a friend of my wife was about to transfer thousands for a BMW 1 series which was priced way under market value on Auto Trader no less. The seller gave the spiel that she was a surgeon and very busy and was going through divorce and wanted to sell as cheap as possible to hurt her ex. The friend was a single mum and had saved up a long time for her dream car and thankfully she happened to mention it to me as otherwise would have been massively out of pocket.
He’ll never actually look into it more since it was an Indian scammer and the British police are very concerned with Indian scammers being punished. They don’t want non-whites in prison.
@@MarkMcCann64 Even then. A different UK-based TH-camr I watched got scammed buying a VW off the side of a country road. Sure they sold him the car, but just hours after purchasing it, it went from having 0 fault codes to showing signs of needing some very costly repairs. And more and more cropped up. Never underestimate scammers. Even if you see the car in-person, you absolutely still can get scammed for the entire sum you paid for the car.
Brilliant video. A real eye opener. Been buying cars a long time and was shocked about what I learned today about the con man in America and the poor guy that brought the c63. Guess the lesson is to buy safe and stick to dealerships.

yeah no reason to shame people at all. Mark nearly fell for it himself nor did he want to believe the clear evidence at first. @@777FreeYoungThug I dunno... Personally I feel that judging an axe murderer for their worst mistake, that being the murdering someone with an axe part, isn't such a bad idea... Great work. People today want instant gratification, even with a big purchase like a car. It makes life easy for scammers. Unless you know the dealership, go see the car. Simple.
I nearly fell for it but because I knew this because of social media I avoid falling for the scam. It is horrible and the damage to people is devastating. Cheers for sharing because they are going to use better ways of doing this fraud again and again. People needs educating.
It doesn't sit right with me how the recently acquired GT3 RS is now being dropped just like that after all the fuss made about the journey to his dream vehicle
Facebook is the absolute last place I would buy anything from. Meta should just stick to being a social platform and not try and be everyone and everything. As for people looking to purchase a car, just stick to dealers with a physical presence and a good reputation . And of course, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Thank you Mark for highlighting this.
Thank you for sharing the video and making people aware of the scammers. I have been a victim once for an iPad, which was also my 18th birthday gift from my dad but learnt the lesson!
Never ever send a deposit following a phone call, email exchange. Check the car is registered at the address, the name of the owner. View the car at the address and get written receipt with both of you signing the contact, ensure you have 2 types of identification to back up the contract. Ensure someone else knows you are viewing the car, preferably go with someone. Do not take cash! Check the car (HPi) Never hand over any more than £500. Won't agree, walk away.
Brilliant video. That's why I only buy cars from dealerships in person. Facebook Marketplace isn't interested in protecting the buyer. It's only interested in the revenue from advertising. I won't buy anything sight unseen, and I never send money to strangers.
I work for a bank and dealing with victims day in day out to shit like this. Need more people like you raising awareness of the risks . It’s rife at the moment !!! Good on you
Good on you for revealing big scammers like this. Evidence like this needs to be shown to the authorities and hold them responsible. After all it is illegal.
Absolutely agree with you mark if your spending that amount of money stand in front of the car before handing the money over. It’s bl**dy frightening how these scammers operate. That’s why I personally would not buy a car with out seeing it face to face. Even from a franchised dealer I would still won’t to see the car. And if your buying from abroad get on a plane yourselves £1,500 for a flight is nothing compared to what you could loose as you video shows. Great work mark and thanks for highlighting these bast **ds
I tried to bait these scammers in saying “I’ll pay for it now, can you send me your details”, and they all came back with the same “bot” answer of “email this”. Equally, I reported all the FB and got shadowbanned for multiple fake reports.
When Covid stopped people travelling to or from Wales I bought an Audi from an Audi dealership outside my area. After speaking to a sales person I did check the car pictures were real and also the bank details of where I had to send my money. Just always check and then check again. Buying online can be dangerous so always ask to see the car live via video call. One recent request to see a Porsche at a main dealer on the other side of the UK was brilliant as the video was personalised showing the exact details I wanted to see along with commentary. Always ask to see inside the car so it is real and not just someone videoing a car at a dealership.
I’ve just put a 5k deposit down on a Mercedes from facebook and had no issues at all. Got a great deal aswell because the blinker fluid needs changing. Should be delivered any day now ☺️😇
Hi Mark, I import cars on the side and what you should definitely do is import them through a business using an import LC (letter of credit) this is when the banks take control of the transaction and guarantee both sides that they won't be scammed. Basically the way it works is when you and a seller agree on a price instead of sending money to them you send all the money to your bank which take control of the transaction and make the seller send all the necessary documents to prove the vehicle has been shipped and only when it is on the boat will the banks send the money. It is a brilliant and cheap way of doing this which means you CAN'T get scammed!!!! Only thing the banks won't do is guarantee quality but if you get a 3rd party inspection it shouldn't be an issue. Hope this helps :)
Fantastic. These scams stick out like a sore thumb to me. In fact, I'm currently compiling a list of all the Facebook scams I come across. The obvious one where cars are for sale that sound too good to be true, I click on the sellers name to see what else they're selling. From there, you'll see a list of goods at ridiculous prices.
To be fair, people are too comfortable in sending huge amounts of money for these cars with no precautions. Spreading awareness is the best solution to this problem.
Excellent explanation. Like you I was ‘so close’ to falling foul of a scam. Cleverly the scammer said the car was sold and buyer arranging collection from other end of country. I said no probs and left it saying if he got let down, to give me a shout. Day later the conversation restarted and because he’d been messed about, a small deposit would secure. I asked for pic of log book trying to be careful. It turned up and thought great. Last check I made was to run the number plate directly into Google. Shock horror, car appeared on website where pics had been copied…..including log book! More story detail that made in convincing. Media was Gumtree. All I could do was report it. Burner phone used. I spoke to guy that was clearly within UK. It is easy to see how people get caught out. Well done Mark for raising profile of problem.
Theses videos are brilliant it just shows you how easy it can be to be scammed it’s scary people give a deposit to a car they’ve never seen before is just 🤯
glad you didnt get scammed but a good way to protect yourself is tell them since you are not able to be there in person that you are sending an independent inspector to check out car if its a scam they will make excuses. but it is not a bad idea you can do to usually get one at a reasonable price and get it done quickly
i cant understand people buying a car without even looking at it, i have never bought a car i haven't viewed, serves you right for being so gullible....
What's more worrying than the rise in these scam adverts is the stupidity of people who fall for them. £2585 for a low-mileage 2017 GLA 😂 To top it off people just hand over money without even seeing the car.
It just goes to show. My dad at the grumpy age of 73. DO NOT EVER buy car or send money without seeing it and standing in front it, no matter how far you have to travel. Its fucken scary shit this stuff. I hate people!
I’ve got scammed out of my Audi R8 in the UK and the scheme which they used made damages in millions of pounds to many people like me. Would love for Mark to make people aware of it and tell my story. It’s been going on for years unfortunately.
I think being such a pretty, relatively tame design, the 997.2 GT3 and RS are going to be the ones coveted the most. The 993 became so loved because of how pretty it was and I think time will do that for the 997 generation, too.

I didn’t and found a legit sale. If he’d of asked for 50 I would have probably done it. Does that 10 times a day 500 easy quid. I had a short argument calling him an obv scammer and he admitted it. Fair play to the fella i guess, lots of suckers out there
@@marcus7440 Yeah as a rule of thumb, when it comes to dealing with private sellers, I never send money over to anyone who hasn't been vouched for by someone I thoroughly know and trust or if I can't physically put my hands on you.
ive given and recieved deposits over facebook a few times, never in the thousands but sometimes if you want a car and trust the person you gotta do it.
so many time wasters on facebook i dont hold cars for anyone unless they bring a deposit, first come first serve unless you can give me a reason to wait
I've given up reporting the scam cars on Facebook as they just dont care,🎉 after reporting the same car in 5 different areas of the country they said they couldn't find an issue with the ads
Facebook dont care because they dont make any money out of it. All they care about is interaction on the website. Scam or valid, its all the same to them.

My dad always said “if it looks too good to be true, it usually is” . It may also explain why my parents got a divorce .
My girlfriend fell for this same scam but with an apartment. They do the same thing; fake listing with real photos, low price and asking for a deposit

@@MarkMcCann64 It’s never too soon
Was funny 😂😂😂
lethal that one was
How could you ever think that guy in America was legit, casually selling chirons for 2mil, black badge rolls for 140 grand, Huracan STO for 300grand... It was a dead giveaway
There's no way he actually believed it, he just thought it'd make the video better.
@@MattDiffey Most likely xd
Exactly all the pictures are from random cars in different dealerships he really just lied for the video
With an eastern european/south american accent that's clearly been dubbed over.
You also can hear the Indian accent from the video , which is a red flag if you hear Indian accent online RUN it’s a scam always
"If you have to pay a deposit, stay away."
"If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."
And most important I remember my dad saying:
"Never send more money to someone you dont know and havent met with face to face, than you can afford to potentially lose"
As my mum always used to tell me "if it sounds too good to be true, it is"
Don't let your heart rule your head, take a moment, have a think, sleep on it.
I use niche as a compliment - giving content that I haven’t seen before in the cluster fuck of content that is car focused TH-cam
Keep it up mate!
The friend was a single mum and had saved up a long time for her dream car and thankfully she happened to mention it to me as otherwise would have been massively out of pocket.
please continue to make more videos in this series. They are a pleasure to watch!
Mark thanks for sharing this series of theft/scam sites. You are a wonderful educator.
Appreciate the watch and support
He’ll never actually look into it more since it was an Indian scammer and the British police are very concerned with Indian scammers being punished. They don’t want non-whites in prison.
FB marketplace is rife with scammers and has been for years. Really disappointing Meta do nothing about it. Great vid Mark.
I had no idea how bad and easy it is. I think answer is never send money without being stood next to what you are buying
Meta don't care about scammers though, they only care if you say a naughty word. You' lose your account for that.
Brilliant video. A real eye opener. Been buying cars a long time and was shocked about what I learned today about the con man in America and the poor guy that brought the c63. Guess the lesson is to buy safe and stick to dealerships.
I have A levels tomorrow and instead wanted to watch this. I think it was worth the sacrifice. Thank you mark for educating us.

"It's ridiculously cheap compared to EVERY other car the same make/year/mileage"
"Please send a deposit, lots of people want it"
Yea, if you fall for this 'scam' you should have to surrender your licence AND your right to vote in elections for the sake of everyone else.
bruh no reason to shame ppl, sometimes ppl let their guard down and mess up, it happens. we shouldn't define ppl by their worst mistake. Try to approach life with more humility, you never know when life may humble you
yeah no reason to shame people at all. Mark nearly fell for it himself nor did he want to believe the clear evidence at first. People get excited when they see an opportunity to buy their dreamcar and the excitement gets the best of us. You should shame the people taking advantage of this by doing illegal activities such as these fake car scams, it makes sense that they look like real ads, because they are real car ads just stolen and slightly adapted
@@emmakeuken7436 Nah, it's greed.
@@777FreeYoungThug I dunno... Personally I feel that judging an axe murderer for their worst mistake, that being the murdering someone with an axe part, isn't such a bad idea...
People who think they can wire a whole load of money who they don't know to get a car for 1/3 of market value are just dumb. Not calling them dumb doesn't make them any smarter.
@@fredrikcarlen3212 except he didn't call him dumb.... read what he said. Also in regards to your first point it's not a crime to get scammed but what you wrote is so if you're unable to tell the difference between those two types of "mistakes" I'm not sure it's worth engaging in a back and forth.
The reality to this is that you are willing to pay for a car worth a quarter of a million pounds, but do not feel that a personal visit, costing you the price of a return ticket to the States🙄, would fully resolve the matter.
Finally someone to address the facebook marketplace scams.. Almost fell for it myself a couple of times. But these guys are getting smarter everyday.
Ho in the right mind sends money somewhere to someone just like that. Trust me bro mentality.
All the products advertised on FB are Rubbish , FB should be held accountable
Facebook as a company is just terrible. With there tracking and there security is awful with hackers. They have gotten away with it and will continue to get away with it.

You Mark are a Legend for exposing this scam, I know how us "car guys" can get blindsided when we finally find that perfect car that ticks all the boxes. Lesson learned , never pay a deposit sight unseen
agreed john, you get hooked when you see the car of your dreams
I’m a car dealer and my only bit of advice would be , don’t send any money until you have physically seen the car , don’t worry if you think your missing out on a bargain , there’s always bargains about
Next time, possibly give the scammer's number to the authorities prior to calling them out over the phone?

This guy dropping banger videos, Really exposing the truth of Car Market.... Your doing a Huge favour for all of us Mark
This channel is better than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions combined.
Brilliant video Mark. I have brought many cars blind over the Internet and luckily they all been genuine. This is a wake up call, social media platforms need to step up.. Well done Mark... Nigel, in Cornwall
i am actually amazed how a crazy motor racer who jumped a Lambo has turned into one of the best car journalists on the internet, you are smashing it!!! fiar play keep up the amazing content!!!
Great video Mark, these Facebook advert scams are out of control! It’s happening a lot with classic car adverts on marketplace too.
Thanks Simon, there are so many
Never ever send a deposit following a phone call, email exchange. Check the car is registered at the address, the name of the owner. View the car at the address and get written receipt with both of you signing the contact, ensure you have 2 types of identification to back up the contract. Ensure someone else knows you are viewing the car, preferably go with someone. Do not take cash! Check the car (HPi)
Never hand over any more than £500. Won't agree, walk away.
This video definitely made atleast 10 new scammers who didn’t think of this scam first. Now they got the whole playbook to do it to others
Good on you
You should have listened to your 5year old daughter! But LUCKILY Ian did some expert-level research and stopped you losing your money! Top job! 👍
Respect and love to ian . He literally saved you and didn’t need to do that he actually is someone we need around us all aha !!
He is a clever man
This is nothing more than buyer’s greed and naivety. People aren’t thinking and doing proper diligence. Leading with emotions.
Mark M being the most important guy on TH-cam helping the public from getting shafted by B@stards 🥊🥊🥊🥊👍👍👍
My brother was just scammed by this, and it was very sad.
These car scams should be more addressed.
Doing the work the mainstream media (especially the BBC) should be doing. Nice one Mark.
Surely the deposit is traceable and the police would just go arrest the person who's bank it is?
Theses videos are brilliant it just shows you how easy it can be to be scammed it’s scary people give a deposit to a car they’ve never seen before is just 🤯
I've reported many fake Facebook marketplace adverts, but Facebook is not interested in taking them down !
First mistake is buying car from Facebook, second mistake is paying anything up front.
If it says no title don't buy it
glad you didnt get scammed but a good way to protect yourself is tell them since you are not able to be there in person that you are sending an independent inspector to check out car if its a scam they will make excuses. but it is not a bad idea you can do to usually get one at a reasonable price and get it done quickly
i cant understand people buying a car without even looking at it, i have never bought a car i haven't viewed, serves you right for being so gullible....
The biggest scam of this video is paying £1,000 for those side indicators on the GT3 RS
I was very much captivated by this whole video, well done. Hope you saved many people from being scammed.
What's more worrying than the rise in these scam adverts is the stupidity of people who fall for them. £2585 for a low-mileage 2017 GLA 😂 To top it off people just hand over money without even seeing the car.
Your videos giving people reality checks are amazing and I think really helpful for the community. Keep going at it brother✊
Considering you can afford a car of this level…is it really that hard to take a flight over to check the vehicle out in person?
