@@MarkMcCann64 Even then. A different UK-based TH-camr I watched got scammed buying a VW off the side of a country road. Sure they sold him the car, but just hours after purchasing it, it went from having 0 fault codes to showing signs of needing some very costly repairs. And more and more cropped up. Never underestimate scammers. Even if you see the car in-person, you absolutely still can get scammed for the entire sum you paid for the car.
This is why I buy cars from dealerships near where I live. It's hard to take my second most expensive purchase for it to be lost to fraudsters. You pay a little extra, but the safety net of even a stolen car, you get covered. Dealerships don't want a reputation selling stolen cars. Great idea at the end of a video call. A truthful person would have the call knowing it's a large purchase for the customer.
Honestly if you're buying a £300.000 investment, just fly over or fly someone else over to check it out in person. You don't skip on insurance if the money is important to you.
Absolutely the right thing to do. I’d rather miss out on 10 bargains and pay a bit more, than get stung for thousands of pounds by some scam artist. Unfortunately in today’s society people will risk everything to have the most flashy, expensive, sought after items in the hope of impressing others, most of who they don’t even know 🙄
Brilliant video. A real eye opener. Been buying cars a long time and was shocked about what I learned today about the con man in America and the poor guy that brought the c63. Guess the lesson is to buy safe and stick to dealerships.
It doesn't sit right with me how the recently acquired GT3 RS is now being dropped just like that after all the fuss made about the journey to his dream vehicle
As my mum always used to tell me "if it sounds too good to be true, it is" Don't let your heart rule your head, take a moment, have a think, sleep on it.
"It's ridiculously cheap compared to EVERY other car the same make/year/mileage" "Please send a deposit, lots of people want it" Yea, if you fall for this 'scam' you should have to surrender your licence AND your right to vote in elections for the sake of everyone else.
bruh no reason to shame ppl, sometimes ppl let their guard down and mess up, it happens. we shouldn't define ppl by their worst mistake. Try to approach life with more humility, you never know when life may humble you
yeah no reason to shame people at all. Mark nearly fell for it himself nor did he want to believe the clear evidence at first. People get excited when they see an opportunity to buy their dreamcar and the excitement gets the best of us. You should shame the people taking advantage of this by doing illegal activities such as these fake car scams, it makes sense that they look like real ads, because they are real car ads just stolen and slightly adapted
@@777FreeYoungThug I dunno... Personally I feel that judging an axe murderer for their worst mistake, that being the murdering someone with an axe part, isn't such a bad idea... @@fredrikcarlen3212 except he didn't call him dumb.... read what he said. Also in regards to your first point it's not a crime to get scammed but what you wrote is so if you're unable to tell the difference between those two types of "mistakes" I'm not sure it's worth engaging in a back and forth.
I've reported so many scammers to Facebook. Not 1 advert have they ever taken down. It's a utter joke. It's in every type of advert selling anything. It's absolutely full of them.
Facebook as a company is just terrible. With there tracking and there security is awful with hackers. They have gotten away with it and will continue to get away with it.
The reality to this is that you are willing to pay for a car worth a quarter of a million pounds, but do not feel that a personal visit, costing you the price of a return ticket to the States🙄, would fully resolve the matter.
You Mark are a Legend for exposing this scam, I know how us "car guys" can get blindsided when we finally find that perfect car that ticks all the boxes. Lesson learned , never pay a deposit sight unseen
I’ve just put a 5k deposit down on a Mercedes from facebook and had no issues at all. Got a great deal aswell because the blinker fluid needs changing. Should be delivered any day now ☺️😇
Facebook is the absolute last place I would buy anything from. Meta should just stick to being a social platform and not try and be everyone and everything. As for people looking to purchase a car, just stick to dealers with a physical presence and a good reputation . And of course, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Thank you Mark for highlighting this.
Brilliant video Mark. I have brought many cars blind over the Internet and luckily they all been genuine. This is a wake up call, social media platforms need to step up.. Well done Mark... Nigel, in Cornwall
I tried to bait these scammers in saying “I’ll pay for it now, can you send me your details”, and they all came back with the same “bot” answer of “email this”. Equally, I reported all the FB and got shadowbanned for multiple fake reports.
Thank you for sharing the video and making people aware of the scammers. I have been a victim once for an iPad, which was also my 18th birthday gift from my dad but learnt the lesson!
I’m a car dealer and my only bit of advice would be , don’t send any money until you have physically seen the car , don’t worry if you think your missing out on a bargain , there’s always bargains about
When Covid stopped people travelling to or from Wales I bought an Audi from an Audi dealership outside my area. After speaking to a sales person I did check the car pictures were real and also the bank details of where I had to send my money. Just always check and then check again. Buying online can be dangerous so always ask to see the car live via video call. One recent request to see a Porsche at a main dealer on the other side of the UK was brilliant as the video was personalised showing the exact details I wanted to see along with commentary. Always ask to see inside the car so it is real and not just someone videoing a car at a dealership.
Theses videos are brilliant it just shows you how easy it can be to be scammed it’s scary people give a deposit to a car they’ve never seen before is just 🤯
Absolutely agree with you mark if your spending that amount of money stand in front of the car before handing the money over. It’s bl**dy frightening how these scammers operate. That’s why I personally would not buy a car with out seeing it face to face. Even from a franchised dealer I would still won’t to see the car. And if your buying from abroad get on a plane yourselves £1,500 for a flight is nothing compared to what you could loose as you video shows. Great work mark and thanks for highlighting these bast **ds
Facebook marketplace is full of scammers.. i report them all the time and 20 minutes later the same add pops up and the car is advertised forsale in a different area
i am actually amazed how a crazy motor racer who jumped a Lambo has turned into one of the best car journalists on the internet, you are smashing it!!! fiar play keep up the amazing content!!!
Fantastic. These scams stick out like a sore thumb to me. In fact, I'm currently compiling a list of all the Facebook scams I come across. The obvious one where cars are for sale that sound too good to be true, I click on the sellers name to see what else they're selling. From there, you'll see a list of goods at ridiculous prices.
What's more worrying than the rise in these scam adverts is the stupidity of people who fall for them. £2585 for a low-mileage 2017 GLA 😂 To top it off people just hand over money without even seeing the car.
I nearly fell for it but because I knew this because of social media I avoid falling for the scam. It is horrible and the damage to people is devastating. Cheers for sharing because they are going to use better ways of doing this fraud again and again. People needs educating.
Good on you for revealing big scammers like this. Evidence like this needs to be shown to the authorities and hold them responsible. After all it is illegal.
1. Thanks for this 2. Thanks for teaching me how to make more money through scamming 3. Should’ve told that guy you were investigating him and want to arrange a plea deal or something.
Six months ago I did reverse image look ups on obvious scam listings. Most images were lifted from dealer websites. I reported 3 different people to Facebook who had 20+ cars for sale all on the same description. I got 2 relies saying they couldn't see anything wrong! I don't think these were automated replies but named individuals working at Facebook. A month later around half the listings were still up. I concluded some of those working at Facebook market place were in on the fraud! Those affected should consider a class action lawsuit against Facebook.
Brilliant video. That's why I only buy cars from dealerships in person. Facebook Marketplace isn't interested in protecting the buyer. It's only interested in the revenue from advertising. I won't buy anything sight unseen, and I never send money to strangers.
I'm glad you spoke to a Porsche expert and uncovered the truth before loosing around 24k. Also, mad respect for doing all this research to make ppl aware and to uncover this scammer 💯💯💯
Hi mark well done for exposing theses scammers it is very bad that people fall for this I’d also say that if it’s to good to be true it is. He’ll never actually look into it more since it was an Indian scammer and the British police are very concerned with Indian scammers being punished. They don’t want non-whites in prison.
please continue to make more videos in this series. They are a pleasure to watch!
Found a really great niche of car content in the last few videos and I’m really enjoying it. I use niche as a compliment - giving content that I haven’t seen before in the cluster fuck of content that is car focused TH-cam
Keep it up mate!
I was always told a couple of things when I started buying things online.
"If you have to pay a deposit, stay away."
"If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."
And most important I remember my dad saying:
"Never send more money to someone you dont know and havent met with face to face, than you can afford to potentially lose"
SCAM ALERT Exceptional works
#crackassetsupport-l'm glad you're battling
these jerks out there. We must take every
precaution to safeguard the elderly and the
general public from these disgusting scam
artists! You've earned it!! You deserve the
Nobel Peace Prize for keeping us safe
brother.
These exposing videos he’s been doing recently absolutky brilliant keep em coming !!!
FB marketplace is rife with scammers and has been for years. Really disappointing Meta do nothing about it. Great vid Mark.
I had no idea how bad and easy it is. I think answer is never send money without being stood next to what you are buying
Meta don't care about scammers though, they only care if you say a naughty word. You' lose your account for that.
As my mum always used to tell me "if it sounds too good to be true, it is"
Don't let your heart rule your head, take a moment, have a think, sleep on it.
"It's ridiculously cheap compared to EVERY other car the same make/year/mileage"
"Please send a deposit, lots of people want it"
Yea, if you fall for this 'scam' you should have to surrender your licence AND your right to vote in elections for the sake of everyone else.
bruh no reason to shame ppl, sometimes ppl let their guard down and mess up, it happens. we shouldn't define ppl by their worst mistake.
@@emmakeuken7436 Nah, it's greed.
@@777FreeYoungThug I dunno... Personally I feel that judging an axe murderer for their worst mistake, that being the murdering someone with an axe part, isn't such a bad idea...
People who think they can wire a whole load of money who they don't know to get a car for 1/3 of market value are just dumb. Not calling them dumb doesn't make them any smarter.
Mat Armstrong: "professional car crasher" 😂😂😂
Too soon?
@@MarkMcCann64no😂 and I think you might have given him idea for a new slogan for his merch 😂
I've reported so many scammers to Facebook. Not 1 advert have they ever taken down. It's a utter joke. It's in every type of advert selling anything. It's absolutely full of them.
Thank you so much for signing my jacket at Petrolheadonism Underground!!
Pleasure, thanks for saying hello
@@MarkMcCann64 Did you also #CirleJerk him with him wearing nothing but his jacket lol.
Ho in the right mind sends money somewhere to someone just like that. Trust me bro mentality.
Love the "Professional car crasher" under Mat Armstrong's name 🤣 Nice touch 🤣🤣
Great video Mark, these Facebook advert scams are out of control! It’s happening a lot with classic car adverts on marketplace too.
Thanks Simon, there are so many
I have A levels tomorrow and instead wanted to watch this. I think it was worth the sacrifice. Thank you mark for educating us.
All the products advertised on FB are Rubbish , FB should be held accountable
Facebook as a company is just terrible. With there tracking and there security is awful with hackers. They have gotten away with it and will continue to get away with it.
Hopefully they had a towel a quick grabs away from getting exposed like that.
Lmfao 🤣
No it’s not a fight
So that just flew over your head, huh? I mean I guess I’m not too annoyed by simple minds anymore.
@@CrAzYfAcE69 I’m dead 😂😂
Next time, possibly give the scammer's number to the authorities prior to calling them out over the phone?
The reality to this is that you are willing to pay for a car worth a quarter of a million pounds, but do not feel that a personal visit, costing you the price of a return ticket to the States🙄, would fully resolve the matter.
You Mark are a Legend for exposing this scam, I know how us "car guys" can get blindsided when we finally find that perfect car that ticks all the boxes. Lesson learned , never pay a deposit sight unseen
agreed john, you get hooked when you see the car of your dreams
You’re gonna upset some people with these style videos! Keep up the great work!!! 🎉
Only the baddies
Poor Mat Armstrong, professional car crasher
i mean he did crash his 1000hp lambo like 2 days ago......
Is it still available?
And ghosted
I’ve just put a 5k deposit down on a Mercedes from facebook and had no issues at all. Got a great deal aswell because the blinker fluid needs changing. Should be delivered any day now ☺️😇
This guy dropping banger videos, Really exposing the truth of Car Market.... Your doing a Huge favour for all of us Mark
I really appreciate these kind of videos 😊
Facebook is the absolute last place I would buy anything from. Meta should just stick to being a social platform and not try and be everyone and everything. As for people looking to purchase a car, just stick to dealers with a physical presence and a good reputation . And of course, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Thank you Mark for highlighting this.
Brilliant video Mark. I have brought many cars blind over the Internet and luckily they all been genuine. This is a wake up call, social media platforms need to step up.. Well done Mark... Nigel, in Cornwall
Finally someone to address the facebook marketplace scams.. Almost fell for it myself a couple of times. But these guys are getting smarter everyday.
I tried to bait these scammers in saying “I’ll pay for it now, can you send me your details”, and they all came back with the same “bot” answer of “email this”. Equally, I reported all the FB and got shadowbanned for multiple fake reports.
9:43 it’s no reason to be wearing a bikini as a child on the uk 😂
Well done for the videos, keep raising awareness!!
Thank you for sharing the video and making people aware of the scammers. I have been a victim once for an iPad, which was also my 18th birthday gift from my dad but learnt the lesson!
Mark is so lucky that he has an amazing network of people around him.
Great video mark, keep on helping the public in this way; there are way too many scammers operating.
its just getting worse and worse
I’m a car dealer and my only bit of advice would be , don’t send any money until you have physically seen the car , don’t worry if you think your missing out on a bargain , there’s always bargains about
Loving the last few videos inc this... sooo well put together and informative.
My brother was just scammed by this, and it was very sad.
These car scams should be more addressed.
This channel is better than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions combined.
This video and the last few have been class! This kind of content is brilliant. Keep them coming!
Well done for not falling for it, that was an extremly well setup scam.
Theses videos are brilliant it just shows you how easy it can be to be scammed it’s scary people give a deposit to a car they’ve never seen before is just 🤯
Your videos giving people reality checks are amazing and I think really helpful for the community. Keep going at it brother✊
What a great video mate 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Day by day your contest are comming to another level and it all about reality.❤
Mark M being the most important guy on TH-cam helping the public from getting shafted by B@stards 🥊🥊🥊🥊👍👍👍
Loving your investigative journalism Mark. Please keep it up!! 👍🏼👍🏼👌🏻👌🏻🙌🙌
What's more worrying than the rise in these scam adverts is the stupidity of people who fall for them. £2585 for a low-mileage 2017 GLA 😂 To top it off people just hand over money without even seeing the car.
Respect and love to ian . He literally saved you and didn’t need to do that he actually is someone we need around us all aha !!
He is a clever man
I nearly fell for it but because I knew this because of social media I avoid falling for the scam. It is horrible and the damage to people is devastating. Cheers for sharing because they are going to use better ways of doing this fraud again and again. People needs educating.
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing this with us
Awesome bit of investigation, learnt a lot
Good on you for revealing big scammers like this. Evidence like this needs to be shown to the authorities and hold them responsible. After all it is illegal.
First mistake is buying car from Facebook, second mistake is paying anything up front.
If it says no title don't buy it
Great video Mark....and well done for revealing this scammer 😠😠😠😠
Why do people pay deposit, when they not have seen the car and tested
This video definitely made atleast 10 new scammers who didn’t think of this scam first. Now they got the whole playbook to do it to others
Well done, Mark. Great advice
Thanks a lot mark I’ve seen loads on Facebook and I’ve believed that they where real you have saved me thanks a lot
Great content really been enjoying your videos recently.
But also puts doubt in people’s mind for all those genuine people and businesses I’d also would buy off a genuine dealer keep the good work up and love your videos thanks Tim
