Im Jamie from the Video at the end! Thanks for sharing my story and hopefully getting the right people to see this video and one day stop the scammers!
Because the only thing they’re good at is scamming the public, I mean look at how Cuckerberg pussied out recently after trying to stay away from fact checking on Facebook? Probably one of the worse human beings on earth.
Just like it is crazy how you can rape kids in the UK and get away with it. But if you mention something negatively about the pedophiles doing it, you get jailed for hate speech
Please expose the building managers claiming cars as abandoned and giving them to towing companies to sell or strip and the police cant do anything about it
After this video, there are probably 100 scammers making fake accounts or a fake GoFundMe to pretend to be him and get donations. As far as we know, he could even be scamming himself... These scammers have no limits on how far they will go for a quick buck.
My Initial thought too.... and to those such as @youreasnake4548 I am sure Mark McCann is smart enough to have figured whether this guy is legit or not and worthy of supporting

Genuinely the best investigative journalism in the UK right now. The BBC doesn't care about topics like this in this way. Keeping going Mark please we need you!
I had an experience selling a car where the buyers came and managed to flood the engine by turning it over for about a second and then turning the ignition off before it started. He did this many times despite me clearly telling him that he wasn't holding it long enough. Then they had the cheek to say clearly the car has a problem and low balled me. They left with no car and I sold it on to someone legit afterwards.
Had another type of the same thing. Tried to low ball me because of a big water leak in the footwell. After they left with a flea in their ear. Found an empty water bottle wedged up under the seat. No one else seeing the car would go for it because of the obvious wet patch in the carpet until I could dry it out.

I've reported many fake marketplace adverts to Facebook, and every time they reject it and leave the advert up. This is very informative, and even though I know a lot of the scams, I've still learn some new things. I've shared this to my feed and hope everyone else will. 👍
Remember to never buy a car unless you have seen it and driven it. Don’t forget to drill that advice into your family and friends until they are sick of you saying it!!!
Well said Aaron. Too many scummy people out there its ridiculous. I'll be honest I've bought a car from Facebook before. One car I put a deposit on as a way to reserve the car before viewing but I knew the guy was legit as he was on the same car group and been on it for 3 years. Personally never risk it
Learn from my mistake; the stereotypes are absolutely true. You wouldn't buy a ship from a guy with one leg and a patch over one eye, sporting a parrot on his shoulder. It took less than a day in my case for the airbag light to come on (had obviously been switched off with a Topdon), the A/C to stop working and the battery to expire. Trouble is, we always want to believe the best in people, but they take advantage of our trusting nature.
This is why car shopping took me almost 2 years.. 90% of the ads on fb are pure scams and a waste of time, and the few decent cars i did find had a deposit on them within the hour and where sold before i could even get out of work.. It really forces people with lack of time to pay the 10k extra and just go through the dealership. Or my favourite was dealerships up charging 1000-3000$ on cars when they found out you where paying cash... When the car was already 5-10k over priced lmaoooo scammers in all forms

This is crazy. I almost got scammed buying an engine on marketplace - was sent videos, the reg of the car, spoke to the guy on the phone and everything. Only thing that saved me is I refused a bank transfer, paid on card and was able to chargeback, otherwise I’d be down £1200! Police didn’t care, they wouldn’t take my side as I couldn’t prove that I didn’t receive the goods!
The oil in the coolant is a typical Romanian scam I’ve had it tried on me twice in the last few years, just last month they done it to my cousin and he had to get a a new coolant reservoir and they’ve always been Romanian.
happened to me when i had to sell my dream pride and joy i owned for 11 years it was my childhood dream car, a w202 c43 amg i maintained meticulously. i wanted £4k which was cheap but i needed a quick sale. i was on my own and they turned up in a car full and basically told me me we're giving you £2k and taking the car. it was clear it wasn't a choice i was surrounded i can handle myself but 5 on 1 not knowing if they're armed I had to be sensible they knew where i lived i was married at the time and had 2 step kids none of them were there thankfully. it really depressed me and i felt like i'd had my manhood taken from me as well as my childhood dream car.
My brothers friends dad is going through similar but with a house… his house is for sale and he’s had people that have turned up to his house after paying someone there first months rent plus there deposit along with big removal vans to offload into there ‘new’ home to be turned away effectively leaving some people homeless… again through Facebook… I know some wouldn’t do it and pay a deposit before but some obviously will when in need… absolutely disgusting
Yet again a Banger of a video Mark I'm glad somebody is bringing light to this scummy activity I can't believe Facebook haven't done anything but I am afraid that putting this video out it doesn't encourage more people to do the same thing as it is so easy
Gone are the days when you knew you were being scammed because you are at a used car dealership, now you are scammed by a facebook seller, and even those buyers are scamming YOU when they ask 'Is this available?' 10000 times or 'Is this your best price' because practically free isn't cheap enough.
Good content Mark, glad there's a youtuber whos making content for people to be aware of scammers. As somebody whos never experienced this i cant imagine to know the feeling of being scammed and don't wish it on any one!
This is the kind of things Governments should be using their power for. They should FORCE Meta to take action or face fines. I bet the issue would go away over night.
I have told many many people about this scam. It is estimated approx 30% of listings on FB are fake. This is also used on property listings especially on MLS sites in the USA. Same method, take details from one site, put on another site at reduced price, then ask for deposit to avoid someone securing the property. Glad you made a video as I tell people about this and most thing I am just being a touch OTT as I work online.
Guy from work got scammed, put his car up for sale two guys came to see it, they wanted to start/run the car no problem. Switched it on/off gave him his key back, Was all fine said they needed to think about it, ok no problem… 3 hours later came outside car had gone…. The key they handed back wasn’t for his car!
we sell car parts and get the exact same issues. turn up mob handed, being loud and overly in your face, low balling you, expecting you too back down and give it them half price. when we see loads of them turn up we ask them to either leave or others to go sit in the car.
I don't even bother with Facebook market place anymore. Got plenty of good deals over the years but it feels like 75% chance of a scammer these days. And those that are genuine have a very off stance on enquiries because they know the BUYERS are highly likely to be scammers too.
I love what you do, my friend you educate people from scammers. On some other channels we watch people build cars, which is cool so someday if I want to build a supercar or a Porsche or anything like that, I’ll have seen it on TV which makes things a lot easier, but what you do is very particular I like it. You have a lovely family. Your daughter is so cute. Your wife is awesome for supporting you. Love that you include your family in your videos, Keep it up. Cheers.
Mark keep fighting the good fight for us everywhere these scammers need to be uncovered and with your help with these brilliant videos are making us a lot wiser 💯thanks mark keep up the good fight 💯😊
I had someone come to the house through market place to buy a motorbike. The payment didn’t go though on my phone and he’d used a false app to transfer money. I called him out it was awkward and he left. Two weeks later I get a knock on door at 9pm open door to a yard full of lads demanding a motorbike back because payment hasn’t cleared, clearly done same scam on them but they had given him the bike hoping the payment would clear in time and he’d given my address to them as his. Managed to resolve it peacefully but it wasn’t a fun situation to be in. Reported to Facebook and number passed to police but nothing done.
I had a similar experience except it was my car, payment didn't go through but he had told me his address turned out he had scammed many people with this fake monzo app. I actually watched him do the payment so it was very legit looking. Managed to find a picture of the car online and followed it back. Waited until middle of the night and had to smash into my own car and take it back. Police knew of the guy and wouldn't help me, kept saying the payments just delayed!
Thanks for highlighting this Mark. One of my lads came very close to being scammed on Facebook. Luckily viewing the seller profile and seeing all the other dozens of bargain cars for sale at the same time was a massive red flag! Common sense seems to disappear with these high ticket priced items - people are so passionate about cars they panic buy without due diligence. Cheers
Great work spreading the word Mark...I came across this scam 10 years ago...luckily I wouldn't part with any deposit to secure the VW offered directly post-auction and didn't provide personal details...yet I might have done SO easily. Feel especially sorry for Jamie (26:00)...a decent bloke who operates on trust but as a result is a perfect soft target for scammers. Thanks for the upload and keep up the good work !
I got scammed once by a dealer. They told me it was under 12 months warranty. The car dropped all coolant and oil within a couple of weeks. Long story short they told me i have NO proof that they ever said it was under warranty. I didn’t get any proof or paperwork of a warranty so it’s all my fault 🤦. Luckily it only cost a couple hundred pound to fix and i ran it into the ground. Loved that car, made me a bmw fan boy😂
Great work Mark and I hope this video goes viral. I could see your reactions and the level of disappointment while talking with the person naming himself Scott which shows how genuine a person you are.
Great video. One thing to note about the scammers. They aren't all necessarily just individuals who decide to scam people but often victims of human trafficking, in places like the Special Economic Zone. These victims often have targets they have to hit in order to get their passports back so they can go home. Not advocating at all for the scammers, but rather highlighting how much worse they really are that they can subjugate people like this, to scam you out of £500.
Facebook market has very cheap cars and i alweys knew they were scam but thats creazy facebook allows this bcs in east europa alot of old people get scamed for thousands
I sold my car on marketplace, the people who came to buy tried diversion tactics when I was counting the cash to confuse me and he smeared oil in places to make the car look like it was leaking in places so he could knock me down on price. They even used a fake account to send messages from to hide their true identity .
Good job Mark on making people aware of these scams! You wouldn’t believe how far things would go, these scammers are truly heartless and ruining people’s lives👎 But again thanks for doing us this service, great stuff🙌
Great video, heartbreaking what has happened to people, Meta could help by making it harder for scammers but they won't bother as they are only interested in making sure the platform is being used
Buy the seller not the car. And that goes for everything. What surprises me is in the middle of all this EBay is still the best platform. Who would have taught.
These videos are amazing!! I think if you keep at it, exposing the automotive industry, these videos will get big enough to make a true difference. Eventually the manufacturers and Facebook will make the changes they need to make
@@mikejankowski8274 how many “I caught a scammer” videos has this guy done? U seriously believe him? He knows what gets the views so yea it’s all probably fake af
The chap at the end, that happens so often and it’s not just Facebook. I run an advertising agency and we’ve had people assume the identity of a Ltd company, pass off as that firm with a fake website selling car parts, tractor parts and even luxury holidays. They then use stolen credit cards to pay for Google Ads to drive thousands of people per day to this fake website. People pay deposits, the scammers take the money and even tho the stolen card owners chargeback for the adspend - the scammers still have the deposits - they then cover themselves saying deposits are non refundable so they become chargeback proof. It happens on an industrial scale - we know the signs now but we see this multiple times per month.
Great video mark - hopefully it will help a lot of people avoid the scummy scammers. Another couple of tips I found are: Look at their other items - are they all photographed in the same location, do they add up (red flag - snow in the background of one car, palm trees behind another…) Also google’s reverse image search on profile pictures and car photos. C U next Tuesday Mark 👍
Facebook are awful for being able to report these scammers, as soon as they block you theres no way to report them or see their profile. Its shocking how much they allow this to happen.
like how you pull awareness here and show how easily some people are tricked by this, like also people who do this for living just scamming people need harsher punishment as fb let them run wild it seems.
Facebook isn’t interested in putting things right because then it would mean them having to own up about the issue in the first place. We have a legitimate business on Facebook and we get constant email scams sent to us and Facebook refuses to do anything about it. It just does your head in.
I find the biggest issue here is even when you report them on Facebook or Instagram themselves they just tell you ''This post did not breach our terms and conditions'' because your reporting it to an AI bot. Posts with comments disabled and messages like DM for info on an under priced vehicle thats clearly a scam.
I’m in a Facebook car group. Probably over 50% of the sales posts are scammers. The amount of people falling for the scam is unreal. Check their profile, check when they joined the group, don’t send any money, insist on paying when you see the item. If it’s too good to be true then it is.
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 Mark! You kept me watching all the way without fast forwarding past the advertising. Well done 😊 I'm going to look at the product and tell a friend about the scanner. I like that 😅 thank you.
Great video highlighting these scum bags! I didn't know about the fake car report/payment that is a new one to me! Butt yes generally avoid super cheap cars in bad areas and sellers that are listing multiple cars without a genuine business address
Good work again mark 👌 Just reported to emails from scammers trying to sell me car parts. I was wise and on to it. So people please be aware if you put on any car forums looking for performance parts or just parts in general be very careful these scammers are looking anywhere to try scam you out of money and you will never see these parts. To be honest I don’t think this will stop just be wise 🙏
Thanks Mark for these videos! Keep up the good work. I’m so sorry for Jamie’s situation 😢 I read about a women that got done out of 830k because she thought she was in a relationship with Brad pit! The internet will be the death of us all

This Is the tip of the Iceberg. My daughters boyfriend sold a VR headset on the basis of a screenshot payment. He lost £300. I can't believe Facebook have not taken down the platform as it 'must' be doing their other businesses damage.
Reporting emails and accounts is absolutely pointless, if thats the polices idea of fixing the problem thats a joke. As soon as the account is closed they will just open another one in 5 minutes...
Wow! what an eye opener, i hope some of the mainstream media outlets like the BBC picks this up...Great Video Mark, you must have been a private investigator in a previous life because this was awsome.....Please do a follow up or a variation of such SCAMS soon
Thank you for this video Mark 🙏 Ive seen loads of these scams and I didn’t know how they worked Thankfully I didn’t engage in comms As that case of id theft was horrific!😮
Mark, I live in this world. Its my life. I hear all the damage done to corporate enterprise, which is where we focus, on assisting people navigate cybersecurity. Facebook/Meta don't know how to control or handle it. Its everywhere, in every piece of society. 85% of every successful breach is because we as humans are instinctively trusting in others. What concerns me most, is the adaption of human interaction for the next generation as a result of this. My grandfather use to say "my word is my bond, and a shake of the hand is all we need to honour anything". Lastly, the comment made is our motto "Prevention is better than any cure". If it sounds to good to be true, or its too easy, walk away".
You’re missing one thing….when you pay via PayPal you have the options for paying the deposit as goods and services in that way the sender is protected if it were a scam. Im assuming that was what the buyers were gona do.
I have reported and blocked hundreds of car adverts on facebook,i must admit the prices are so ridiculously cheap i can't believe people are that gullible to think their real.
I mean if the car is waay cheaper then other similar ones, that alone should alarm you that something is sketchy. Cheapest can usually be most expensive
It's amazing that the police can't do anything. What they can do is help people recognise a scam or scammer - I've never heard of the website or text number to report scammers. This information needs to be spread far and wide, and people also need to be educated. The more people that are aware, the less are likely to be scammed. 🤜🤛
To busy investigating hurty online posts.. there pathetic chose to investigate the easy targets… would 💩 themselves confronted with a real nasty criminal
I was trying to sell me motorbike recently and was bombarded with those history report scams, almost made it impossible to sell. Eventually I did, but my first question back to every person that contacted me was 'I'm not buying a fake scam report... still wanna chat? Luckily one guy did and he brought my bike, but what a pain in the arse!
I’ve noticed a lot of similar adds working like this and also noticed they’re all listed as London in location. Also the sellers wanting to deal with you over e-mail once on the hook to take you away from FB.
Mark. This is a very impressive report on the huge problem of scammers using Facebook Market place and other sites. This is a documentary that should be seen by millions and I hope other car video content producers back you and send their viewers to see it. Scammers are usually thousands of miles away. India is a home of hundreds of scammers but they can be anywhere. If something is too good to be true. It usually is. Avoid. As for FB, they are pathetic in the response just when you need their help
Welcome to my life, I have saved customers from non-existent cars, defective cars, and real cars that have been written-off, but the seller not informing the buyer so they can sell it full price. Buying cars can be filled with scams and rip-offs, and I'm just scratching the surface! All I can say is "get a prepurchase car inspection. Or motorbike, truck, trailer, caravan.... whatever.

Cheers.
Jamie's story is really heartbreaking 💔
i bet its not the only one. facebook needs closing down
Mark keep fighting the good fight for us everywhere these scammers need to be uncovered and with your help with these brilliant videos are making us a lot wiser 💯thanks mark keep up the good fight 💯😊
Seriously. Facebook isn’t a platform to buy cars off. No protection. Stay safe peeps and use some common sense.
You are doing great work with your investigative journalism series. Loving watching them
I had someone come to the house through market place to buy a motorbike.
Cheers
Another great video, Mark. Well done on trying to expose the thousands of scammers out there👍🏻
Great work spreading the word Mark...I came across this scam 10 years ago...luckily I wouldn't part with any deposit to secure the VW offered directly post-auction and didn't provide personal details...yet I might have done SO easily.
Stay strong Jamie we all Behind you things will get better
Mark needs to be a scam exposer now 😂
Great work Mark and I hope this video goes viral. I could see your reactions and the level of disappointment while talking with the person naming himself Scott which shows how genuine a person you are.
they are doing nothing. (facebook). I have reported many scams to them, and after investigating, the posts were allowed to stay up. LOL
It’s mad they don’t get deleted
I sold my car on marketplace, the people who came to buy tried diversion tactics when I was counting the cash to confuse me and he smeared oil in places to make the car look like it was leaking in places so he could knock me down on price. They even used a fake account to send messages from to hide their true identity .
This video really speaks to me. Thanks for sharing!
Good job Mark on making people aware of these scams! You wouldn’t believe how far things would go, these scammers are truly heartless and ruining people’s lives👎
But again thanks for doing us this service, great stuff🙌
Why is the quality only 360p😭
Uploads take time to upload in full resolution, therfore, if you're early you will get offered whats been uploaded at that given time.
@beemore18 i wasnt early tho this video is 1 day old and i commented 5 hours ago so the video was uploaded aloooong time ago
Great video, heartbreaking what has happened to people, Meta could help by making it harder for scammers but they won't bother as they are only interested in making sure the platform is being used
Diversity is our strength.
I have to say the way Mark does his adverts is genius, makes me actually watch them instead of skipping a minute!
Love you Mark 😘
Every video is a step closer to your dreams. Keep it up!
Buy the seller not the car. And that goes for everything. What surprises me is in the middle of all this EBay is still the best platform. Who would have taught.
It’s going to get worse when society is cashless.
It will not go cashless.
These videos are amazing!! I think if you keep at it, exposing the automotive industry, these videos will get big enough to make a true difference. Eventually the manufacturers and Facebook will make the changes they need to make
Great video Mark. Its crazy and this has to educate people. If it's too good to be true it will be fake!
1:48 he’s replying so quick. Clearly a fake chat
U serious?
@@mikejankowski8274 how many “I caught a scammer” videos has this guy done? U seriously believe him? He knows what gets the views so yea it’s all probably fake af
The time between messages could just be cut out to save time in the video?
The chap at the end, that happens so often and it’s not just Facebook. I run an advertising agency and we’ve had people assume the identity of a Ltd company, pass off as that firm with a fake website selling car parts, tractor parts and even luxury holidays. They then use stolen credit cards to pay for Google Ads to drive thousands of people per day to this fake website. People pay deposits, the scammers take the money and even tho the stolen card owners chargeback for the adspend - the scammers still have the deposits - they then cover themselves saying deposits are non refundable so they become chargeback proof.
It happens on an industrial scale - we know the signs now but we see this multiple times per month.
dose my head in the amount of friends share scam cars with me off facebook asking advice, thank you for doing this video
Great video mark - hopefully it will help a lot of people avoid the scummy scammers.
Another couple of tips I found are:
Look at their other items - are they all photographed in the same location, do they add up (red flag - snow in the background of one car, palm trees behind another…)
Also google’s reverse image search on profile pictures and car photos.
Butt yes generally avoid super cheap cars in bad areas and sellers that are listing multiple cars without a genuine business address
this is an amazing Video, thank you so much to you and your lovely family Mark, amazing work
Good work again mark 👌
Just reported to emails from scammers trying to sell me car parts. I was wise and on to it. So people please be aware if you put on any car forums looking for performance parts or just parts in general be very careful these scammers are looking anywhere to try scam you out of money and you will never see these parts.
To be honest I don’t think this will stop just be wise 🙏
It never fails to amaze me how these scammers do stuff like this without any remorse, where are your morals?!
Facebook should have a duty of care for all purchases made via their site. The trouble is they are so big to even worry about any backlash!
I think there should be a lawsuit against Facebook like this is just sad
Reporting emails and accounts is absolutely pointless, if thats the polices idea of fixing the problem thats a joke. As soon as the account is closed they will just open another one in 5 minutes...
Wow! what an eye opener, i hope some of the mainstream media outlets like the BBC picks this up...Great Video Mark, you must have been a private investigator in a previous life because this was awsome.....Please do a follow up or a variation of such SCAMS soon
what a great vid, we definitely need more exposing videos! love ur videos mark im a big fan
Don't have facebook, problem solved. 😂
Well done, Mark one of the most important videos out there today
Hello from Ireland again, Mark. My God, this is Fecking Crazy, Mark. Fair play to you for shining a light on all this, Respect Buddy 🙏🙏🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
May i borrow this video for a while mate??🤩. Looks so sharp and incredible
Thank you for this video Mark 🙏
Ive seen loads of these scams and I didn’t know how they worked
Thankfully I didn’t engage in comms
As that case of id theft was horrific!😮
What a video mark your an absolute legend mate. Please keep up your excellent work!
Mark your vlogs are just class!
Well done Mark, for giving back to the community!
The world is Full of This people and Nobody is Doing a thing so thank you very much that you do somthing about it
It's amazing that the police can't do anything.
Love the work you're doing mate, love the cars too! Keep the good content coming and above all, be safe!
Or motorbike, truck, trailer, caravan.... whatever.
