Dude, I really enjoy watching your videos. Please keep them coming. It is so awesome that your brother is seemingly always by your side. God bless you and your family.
Excellent job !!! I am an aircooled 911 driver , always detested the watercooled 911’s but for less than 8k its a steal ...the mod I would do is the Akrapovich exhaust....thank you for sharing...as a diy-er in Holland its so cool
Randy, you should have left that rear seat bottom out, so that area with the water under it can dry out! I would also leave a window cracked, so you don't get that wet moldy smell!
If I were you I would really consider using distilled water instead of tap. All of the impurities could really hurt your seals, gaskets, and cooling components such as radiators or coolers. Also constantly pressurizing your cooling system will do some serious harm later down the road especially if that system has never been changed from the glued components to the fixed and welded components, they will blow and fall off. Look at hoovies TH-cam page regarding that.
I believe he alluded to using distilled or deionized water at the beginning of the flushing process ...hopefully his last couple of flushes and the final glycol mix refill with be done using distilled (~$1 per gallon)...and did _you_ mean to say 'evacuating your cooling system', not 'constantly pressurizing'? Because that's what he's doing...and if that is damaging to a Porsche cooling system then I suppose what they say about German automobiles being failure-prone is true...
Hardtop was standard issue on all 996 Cabriolets. Many folk in warm areas didn’t want them-they take up a lot of room in the garage-and would just decline. Dealers and individuals sold them off. It became an option for the 2005- 997. I got one, as-new, from Parts Heaven in my area for just $500. Thing is, in coastal CA, I only used it twice, for a few days each time, over 7 years!. Nice option, though, makes the Cabrio very quiet inside.
Dude just subscribed today and let me say the Porsche 996 vids are awesome - thanks for sharing - what a win A preverbal Gen Z Barn find ! I am happy for you my brother ....8k plus some hoses n shout ...lol thanks again , reviewing watching your videos made me go on Craigslist and pick up a 2001 996 99k Cabrio man this thing flies and so responsive love coming off the parkway here in NY.
William Crawford they came free with the 911s, they were expensive for a boxster, I can buy them all the time for $400. He might have bought a perfect one in correct colour
Awesome Randy. I'm so happy the 911 worked out for ya. It's been my dream car for over 30 years. I'm jealous. Keep that jem. Don't flip it. You deserve that beauty.
I had a 2000 996 and this exact same problem. I fixed it by Replacing the air oil separator. It has a rubber diaphragm that goes bad. You still have to flush it out but if you don't replace the AOS it will happen again. Just my .02.
I get what you’re saying about not having days off, but you’re building up your life to live better and easier in the future. Keep up the hard work man!!
It is not oil in the coolant! Someone put transmission fluid in the coolant... There is no way oil would expand the rubber that much but transmission fluid or brake fluid sure could do the job! You might as well change all the hoses tomake it dependable for road trips!!! Did you order a turbo or a rear spoiler? Nice find and Huge win on the Porsche 911...
Buy a large nut, I use a lugnut for a semi truck, pull the screen off the hose for the coolant filler slip the nut on the hose and put the screen back on the hose then you don’t have to hold it in the water
The top. Dry cleaning fluid the clean it then vinyl colour change spray to make it like new. Cooling systems. One flush with automatic dishwasher powder to clean out calcium and other deposits and all the aluminium if you leave it in too long.
Clean the drains from the soft top if you have water in the car. If the immo gets flooded the car wont start and you have to send the unit to florida for repair. I bought a hardtop for my 996 for 600 bucks in good shape, wrong color but in good shape.
Hey man I love what you’re doing with the Porsche. But I think you should run distilled water instead of tap. German cars recommended distilled water. Tap water can mess up the seals and what not.
ask mike over at autovlog for the name of his speeding ticket lawyer, he seems good, lol and randy your channel is my favorite. auto channel on youtube by far.
Congratulations! Looks like you did well. I think that replacing all of the hoses would be a good investment. What if someone buys it, and that one hose you didn't replace blew, possibly overheating the engine? You may not see that person again as a customer, may also spread bad publicity on the internet. Also all new hoses is a good sales point.
1st mod - turbo rear wing. DO NOT LET WATER GET INSIDE YOUR 911. The DME is under the driver's seat and that's where H2O collects when it gets inside. Fries the CPU and then you have big problems.
wow you are so busy now! , i cant wait to see the porsche and gmc running as well as your new shop/home/mancave/peaceful outdoor fresh air place , its so interesting following you in your journey ! hehe
If the oil in the cooling system issue continues, consider changing the radiator. It could be cracked internally and oil from the oil lines could be mixing with the coolant there.
You should have used should always use Distilled Water for your cooling systems. This is because of the minerals in tap water, can cause corrosion in your system down the road.
You can get the oil oil just by cutting a pig in strips and dipping it in your coolant bottle. Took me 6 months to get all of my oil out but it will pull it even if you put coolant in it.
hey really enjoy your vids but hey have a tip for that rag top go to dollar tree and get blackb spray bottle for tires ,ya no tire black .but take that stuff and put three or four coats im telling you you wont believe it im serious its called tire shine manufacture driver choice I brought back a top that was ready to be replaced to some more fl sun shine ..thanks again for your vids later guy
Have you really gotten the hate on this car? Personally, I have really enjoyed both the Porsche and the GMC series of videos immensely! It is great to see you score big on this Porsche!!!!
Hi, really impressed with your solutions to the 911 coolant issue. Any reason why a dilutable degreasant couldn't be used? I'd have thought this would have cut through oil much more. Also, strange such a small part failed (the rubber 'Y' connection). Is it possible that one of those small bore lines is choked up? Sometimes old rubber hoses fail internally and bits of rubber end up floating around the system. Seems that the part failed due to overheating and/or over pressurisation? Definitely worth checking all the flexible pipes....Good skills and really interesting!!
So did you know that cleaning out the coolant system would fix the problem or are you just going on a hunch and willing to bite the bullet on the cost of a replacement engine? I would certainly want to know the status of the engine before buying or replacing anything else. Or have you decided you are going to fix this car up no matter the cost?
Looks the original alternator had a one-way clutch mechanism on the pulley but the new one didn't. If so you might have various other issues in the long run.
I have a question for you. As a regular member on copart in Louisiana what do i need to purchase a car? I am being told that I need either a license or a broker in order to buy online
Hey, really enjoy your trials and tribulations with these rebuilds. I'm thinking of buying a 2016 rebuilt 4runner with a rebuilt title. I see one of the car pictures shows the milage feature which should say 17-18 mpg but this one says 12.3 mpg. Why would it say that and would you buy it? I am not a mechanic. I need a good car. Anybody know about this?
Didn't the instructions say not to hold the hose pressure for too long at the start? You don't think that might have been more of an issue concerning distortion of the hoses? Just a thought...
Randy: you and your brother have your hands full!!! Actually the Porsche turned out to have some good content. I thought buying the car was a mistake. But I have been wrong before!!! Cheers
Don't you at least have to run water pump bearing lube in straight water? Doesn't anti-freeza have water pump lube additives? Or does this model have an electric water pump?
What about focusing more on the current rebuilds since you have so many parts to install and the house renovating you need to do... and cutting down on soooo many walking around Copart videos?? Would be different is you didn't already have so many things to work on. Just a suggestion from an avid follower :)
Those walk around vids are the bread and butter of this channel. They pay out $6k a month. I can’t nix those. Also, they only take up 4 to 6 hours of my entire week for $1500 a week. Worth the money to me. I appreciate the comment though.
Instead of draining entire cooling system at this point, and since the "sludge" floats, I would try to suck it out of the top of the reservoir/radiator with a turkey baster.
I never cleaned oil from a cooling system but when I clean up after changing oil I use Dawn dish liquid. It removes oil like no other product that I have seen. Would it be possible to try Dawn? It might make removing that oil a lot faster.
@@wcollins4974 They use Dawn to clean ducks who were drenched by oil spills. It has some special grease-cutting properties, certainly better than Palmolive.
Tomorrows video: House renovations, and I get pulled over on dashcam after doing 130MPH in the Corvette. I got pulled at 95mph in a 65. Stay tuned!
Why not do it on a race track instead?
Rear spoiler lip?

Wot wot 🏎🚓
Could it be a removable hardtop for the Porsche?🤔

I think you purchased a Porsche 911 cabriolet hardtop. Am I wrong?
I'm thinking hardtop too
That's what I think. Hardtop

The top. Dry cleaning fluid the clean it then vinyl colour change spray to make it like new.
Cooling systems. One flush with automatic dishwasher powder to clean out calcium and other deposits and all the aluminium if you leave it in too long.
It does not take long minerals in the water will do a number on the cooling system. You will see corrosion that looks like calcium buildup.
And the antifreeze/coolant lubricates the water pump
Winter is around the corner you can have a day off then.
I think you bought a hardtop. :P
Tip ...when the car is red hot losten the manifold bolts if you can 6 out of 8 break off when you try to get the manifold off
dawn dish soap water would do well for cutting the oil.
Dish soap foams too much. I always used dishwasher soap due to less foaming. I learned it from an old timer at the local radiator shop.
@@alexanderyoung5651 but the oily film inside should work as an anti foaming agent.
Gotta use a non-foaming cleaner. Basically any cloths washing detergent will work.
Paint that top with spray carpet die or mist black primer on it. lightly not thick.
Get you some forever black coating for your convertible top great stuff. Makes it look new.
It can be a slow leak oil to coolant, try some head gasket sealer that goes in the oil
Clean the drains from the soft top if you have water in the car. If the immo gets flooded the car wont start and you have to send the unit to florida for repair. I bought a hardtop for my 996 for 600 bucks in good shape, wrong color but in good shape.

You do have a lot going on. A day off sounds great, but when, right. Enjoy your content, and can't wait to see the next GMC video.

Hey man I love what you’re doing with the Porsche. But I think you should run distilled water instead of tap. German cars recommended distilled water. Tap water can mess up the seals and what not.
Try adding some water soluble oil to the water which will attract the oil in the system into the coolant.

If the oil in the cooling system issue continues, consider changing the radiator. It could be cracked internally and oil from the oil lines could be mixing with the coolant there.

Use a small towel to wick the oil out of the reservoir! Any oil you get out of the reservoir is oil that won’t go through the system.

I think you should call the alternator an All Tow Mater!
That is what oil does to rubber hoses but it seems that it is worse on the inside of hoses then on the outside of a hose
You purchased a carbon fiber wing for the Porsche 911!👍
Randy, have a little fun and put the key in the door lock, turn it to UNLOCK and hold it. Then try LOCK.

That turbo puts out more boost than you think. The one on my Audi A4 is about that size and it will put out 20 psi all day.

Cool dash for the truck, quarter size turbo, love it.
You say 'stay safe out there' to everyone but yourself as your getting pulled over for super fast speeding. The discontinuity...boggles my mind.
It’s a definite win. You have a beautiful Porsche which will make you money if in good condition.
Nice work loved to see you're on that Porsche, I'm a Porsche Mercedes Fan.
But love older American cars & trucks. Thanks for the content👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯

We use cascade dish soap at our shop , works really good
Use a shop vac, see if any moisture can be pulled out.
This might sound like a silly question... could you not put a degreasing agent in the coolant and desolve the oil?
My guess is a hard top, or a new exhaust or a new read wing.
Looks the original alternator had a one-way clutch mechanism on the pulley but the new one didn't.
If so you might have various other issues in the long run.

Are those rear wheels the 40 offset 18 inch from a 996 C4S or a Turbo? They look like they are sticking out about an inch or so from the fender wells.
i would love to see you attempt to replace the convertible top on the 911.
Looks like the oil in the cooling system caused damage to the hoses.
My son works at Wendy's and the oil on the floor eats his rubber soled shoes in about three months
Didn't the instructions say not to hold the hose pressure for too long at the start? You don't think that might have been more of an issue concerning distortion of the hoses? Just a thought...
I’m gonna say a hardtop...Either that or a wing (even though I’m not sure that was an actual option for the verts)
Well. Look at the hoses as a wife. The old ones swell up, and the new ones are slender and firm...... LOL Great videos by the way.
You might want to consider changing all the coolant hoses. They are likely all damaged from the oil
Randy: you and your brother have your hands full!!!
Actually the Porsche turned out to have some good content.
I thought buying the car was a mistake.
But I have been wrong before!!!

After 3 full water flashes if you still see some oil in the system it means it is leaking oil into the system.
Strong work randy
Don't you at least have to run water pump bearing lube in straight water? Doesn't anti-freeza have water pump lube additives? Or does this model have an electric water pump?
I would have put something more caustic in to get rid of the oil faster
Gotta have a good win every now and then.. it'll help with the house work costs

Looks like you put the wrong size tires on the rear of the car. The bead does not look right at all.
