There is a hoist you can mount on the ceiling of your garage that will attach to the top. You just drive up under it, attach it to the top, and then pull it up and store it, or lower it down onto the stand. There is also a cover to put on the top if you are storing it for some time.
The hardtops are 73 lbs--aluminum and glass. They were commonly available on the early 996 cars and were provided for free on them. In time, they stopped shipping them with all the cabriolets--many new cab owners didn't want them. (I ordered one for my new 2006 997S cab back in 2005 and am happy to have it).
Considering the awesome job that Weird Beard did on the Harley Davidson F150, if he's willing, ask him to repair and paint the hardtop. He could also put it on his channel so we could see that process.
I said when you first got the 911 you would love driving it. The engine weight in the rear and rear-wheel drive even works in the snow. Back seat haha only good for kids and grocery sacks.
Hello. Its me. (to quote Adele). Now Randy you KNOW what I am going to write. NO to tinted windows. keep it original because (altogether) "Originality is everything" to Porsche buyers. The hardtop is excellent by the way and I am sure Weird Beard can sort that damage.
He's a clown. Why trash a good #'s matching motor and put it into a slug. Rework the motor and relax. That my friends is a better watch. No original motor Digby is better off with a 606 and a reworked pump. This clown isn't that cool.
It is impressive that you can get as many videos as you do out each week. For me It is hard to get 3 out each week car parts are expensive, I do have to say my subscribers are great and it seams they understand. Hell I just dropped 2 grand on the GS so that I can get the 455 to start up this weekend and a few other things. Keep them coming man.
Myself, I like the hard top. I've had them on sports cars and they do have their place in life. Saves the soft top from weathering in bad weather or the sun damaging it. Selling the car is easy but buying another one for that price may not be. If the money is spent and your still getting along with life I'd hold onto it.
Love the hard top, and you said that you really like it and my keep it, well then you need to paint it because I know that you will not like the rust, because it will start to rust before you know it. So act like you know what you have to do, get it repainted. Love your videos.
I love the hardtop on the Porsche, looks really good. It’s really great to have an option of having a hard top. I had a Jeep Wrangler which had the hardtop, and soft top. When it starts to get cold (late fall) Id switched it out and put the hard top on until like April. Love the videos 👍🏽
Makes sense for a hard top. Late October - May then remove for summer. It is only a paint job, sand and prep yourself, have a paint shop do the finish. There is a bicycle ceiling hanger that has 2 straps and 2 hooks and a crank lifter. Make a loop from nylon straps and bungies to support the roof, lifter can lift and hold it in place up at the ceiling away from anything that can scratch it. Hopefully falling branches will not damage the convertible and puncture holes in it. Then it would be an insurance claim.
It might be cheaper just to take that back fabric to an upholstery person and put some really nice leather-wrapped on it to match the seats👍👍👍👍 by the way love the pumpkin on the stump good old Halloween spirit 🎃
Randy? Can I give you one simple advice on the piece that needs to be replaced??? Loctite Glue Spray, upholstery fabric from JoAnns Fabric and upholstery foam. Just take off the fabric on that part, clean it up. One you get the part clean up, Spray it with the Glue Spray add the Upholstery foam. Work it till you get it NICE and Tight. It's pretty easy.
Looks good Randy. Take that loose fabric piece to an upholstery shop along with the door panel. They will make both pcs new again. For the top, Mike (AKA Weird Beard) can knock that out in a day - done! You have some great contacts. Sonny (CT)
With the rear windows down you should be able to reach in and release/secure the rear latches on the top. Of course like you said a ratchet with 6 mm hex socket will make it easier.
I like that hard top, it looks amazing, thanks for showing how to remove it also, Liked, that back panel fabric could just be glued and it it would be ok
Funny, an employee of a Porsche dealership, which also sells Mercedes, recently told me that they used to store hardtops for owners and that some of the hardtops were abandoned. At some point, the dealership stopped storing hardtops for owners and sent the abandoned ones to the "crusher".
Randy, have you considered painting the hard top in gloss black? Or heck, do a quick fix of the scrapes and scratches and wrap that sucker. Tinting the windows @15% is a must and it would go amazingly well with a black hard top. It'd look sort of as if the car had the top down all the time, which is pretty badazz.
Thank you for showing us the top! Check on having an upholstery shop fix your rear trim piece. With your # of flips it would be good to have an upholstery shop to use. I'm not a fan of added tint. I dont like looking through it at night. Ask Mike to paint your top.
I agree with a few comments below .. You should keep the 911 bro.. You deserve it out of all the TH-cam's I watch I feel like you work the hardest and are the most truthful..I know there's things you can't or won't tell us because hey its your life and your business sometimes things are private but I feel like you deserve it bro... Even if you just build a make shift garage and keep it off the road for a bit till you are in a position to afford all these cars on the road Idk mad I think u deserve it brother man
Have Weird Beard paint the hardtop- drive the 911 to his place, leave the top there and drive home with the soft top up. It’ll give him content, and you will get a quality paint job.
Hard top ideal for winter weather Randy, how about asking Weird Beard to look at the paint damage & give you a quote ? Still think you should sell it , never mind window tinting, get the hard top looking good & sell, release the cash tied up in it for the house refurbish & new shop.Drive the diesel truck, keep a car for your fiance to use & sell the rest, save on insurance premiums & maintenance that your fleet must be costing you ? ( But I am very careful about spending money !!!)
The speaker panel looks easily repairable with removing the speaker grilles and using contact adhesive to re apply the covering. MUCH cheaper than replacing. I would remove the panel to do the repair. It would also make better content repairing the panel instead of replacing
Looks very nice! and not a bad price for the hard top. I've been in so many accidents, I need the protection of a hardtop which doesn't come off without the jaws of life. And about shipping, I had a $2500 crane crushed by freight, and since I didn't sign for it personally, it was all out of pocket. Freight sucks. Nobody has pride in their jobs.
Once you get done fixing the hardtop, that trim piece in the back, and the door panel. That would be a beautiful car. When and if you do decide to sell it, I bet you will get way more than what you paid for it.
When I lived in San Diego all my friends went to Mexico for upholstery work and other stuff. Awesome craftsmen and cheap prices. That top looks pretty good but seems to have more ridges in it than a real coup.
I know this will be a common theme here, but have Weird Beard do it. I know it won't be free, but he can make a video series of repainting this top, and you can get a discount on what the avg shop would cost to sand/prep/paint. He'll more than make up the difference in views of his videos. He does great work, so unless you guys had a falling out, or he's crazy busy, I don't see any reason to not use his talents to fix the paint work on the top.
Definitely tint your windows. Would look really good in like a 20/25%. I would just have someone reupholster it, will probably be cheaper than replacing it. Should really consider putting that top in a garage until you get it fixed, or spray some primer to stop it from rusting.
Hi Randy, I miss the mix of carnage and regular content from Copart. The house stuff is really great, would have been good to have seen the mowing process perhaps rather than the finished deal. Am really interested to see your fiances input into the new house too. Keep up the great work Randy, from a UK fan.
Love the hard top Randy never been to fond of the convertible my dad had a 99 in 04 and he hated the wind noise it was horrible but no matter what it's a Porsche
Randy, even though I like the convertible top better, the hard top was a great buy. It also gives you options. Talk to Mike about painting the Porsche hard top. It should be affordable, especially if you help him. Plus it would be great video content.
Randy Take it to a upholstery shop they can fix it cheaper than you can buy another one for. It's called a package try or I think there still call that anyway. Yes the top makes the car it's a shame it got damaged in shipping.
I am a big fan of the hardtop. Makes the car look so much better. With that much damage from shipping it was either packaged poorly without proper padding, or handled by FedEx. Seems like every package that I get shipped to me from them looks like it was run over by a truck. Hope you get some compensation from who ever the shipper was. As to tinting the windows, the car is already a dark color, and doesn't seem like it would do much for the look of the car. If you do tint the windows I wouldn't go over 25% and for heavens sake, don't put one of those stupid looking eyebrow tints on the front windshield. Also, if you tint, make sure you don't get the tint that looks like it has a dark green in it once on the car. I've tinted the windows on the last 4 cars I've owned, but none of them were as dark as the 911. Almost forgot, it's a Porsche, Get a quality repaint on the top. Not Maco for that.

He will most likely ask him to and work on it with him AFTER he gets his response from the claim the ebay shipper filed on his behalf.
Good thing that non of the glass parts got damaged..
Looks sharp with the hardtop. Good decision.
08:18For someone who closes their door with their boot, I wouldn't have thought you would be fussed about a few scuffs on the roof ! 👞
I said when you first got the 911 you would love driving it. The engine weight in the rear and rear-wheel drive even works in the snow. Back seat haha only good for kids and grocery sacks.

Love the hardtop get weard beard to respray
That’s what I was thinking

That back trim/cover piece is part# 996-555-083-04-EDK. The two smaller covers that go to are 996-555-341-01.
You got to keep the 911 Randy, it's an absolute classic. A real beauty. It is such a gorgeous car.
Looks good Randy. Take that loose fabric piece to an upholstery shop along with the door panel. They will make both pcs new again. For the top, Mike (AKA Weird Beard) can knock that out in a day - done! You have some great contacts. Sonny (CT)
you definitely get more rebuilds done than samcrac
@@METALMAN4Wii I thought that is why he hired rich rebuilds
With the rear windows down you should be able to reach in and release/secure the rear latches on the top. Of course like you said a ratchet with 6 mm hex socket will make it easier.
I like that hard top, it looks amazing, thanks for showing how to remove it also, Liked, that back panel fabric could just be glued and it it would be ok
LOL@Randy, you climbing in and out of that nonexistent backseat would have made a great scene on the old Red Green show.
Funny, an employee of a Porsche dealership, which also sells Mercedes, recently told me that they used to store hardtops for owners and that some of the hardtops were abandoned. At some point, the dealership stopped storing hardtops for owners and sent the abandoned ones to the "crusher".
Excellent transformation! Yes, tint! Does that hard top get rid of the leak on the back?
I do love Tim's input, he's just 🤷♂️ 😄

Randy for a fix see goonzsquad or wstch their videos these 2
brothers will help u
Hopefully this Porsche makes you lots of money. It be great if can generate the sum you paid for your home.
7100 for a Porsche that's a GREAT deal. Another reason why I really like copart. Great steal man. Nice hardtop too.
I have a pair of Levi with more room in the seat.
Have Weird Beard paint the hardtop- drive the 911 to his place, leave the top there and drive home with the soft top up. It’ll give him content, and you will get a quality paint job.
Such a nice addition. With the cooler weather on the way you're going to thank yourself for buying that top.
Hard top ideal for winter weather Randy, how about asking Weird Beard to look at the paint damage & give you a quote ? Reminds me of doug demuros famous "entering the back seat" segment.
lol

I like the hard top but watching you snap it down was pure carnage lol.
I think that 911 has been your best score to date Randy!
Looking good with the hardtop end black windows
Randy, a short ball tip allen wrench may help putting the hard top back on. Yes I like the hard top on the car.
Once you get done fixing the hardtop, that trim piece in the back, and the door panel. That would be a beautiful car. When and if you do decide to sell it, I bet you will get way more than what you paid for it.
I think it looks great with the hard top. Weird Beard is your man to repaint it.
I would buy some fabric glue and glue that piece by the speaker
The 3M spray adhesive is clutch
Ain't nothing not to love about this car I want one myself. Randy this is a keeper
That is very nice especially for Oklahoma we have such harsh weather most of the time. I think they top will be on it most of the time
When I lived in San Diego all my friends went to Mexico for upholstery work and other stuff. Awesome craftsmen and cheap prices. That top looks pretty good but seems to have more ridges in it than a real coup.

I like the hardtop. I have a 2003 Boxster s and wouldn't do one on my car, but the 911 looks good with the removable hardtop.
The hard top looks awesome, it finishes the car off perfectly. Great addition to it 👍
Cobalt Blue
Same color as my Harley Wide Glide
Awesome color.
Tint the windows clean nice look
Looks good with the hardtop goes great with the older 911 996 carrera!
Randy I think you could pull those panels in back and reupholster them. Go to a professional and have a paint correction and spay top buy same pro.
Looks really good, the back and door panels just get them refurbished, easier then new ones
Looks really good with the hard top
I gotta admit i really wasnt into this car but seeing it with a hard top kinda changes my mind deff looks alot better
the hard top looks great Randy
That Porsche is mint especially with the Hardtop
Definitely tint your windows. Would look really good in like a 20/25%. I would just have someone reupholster it, will probably be cheaper than replacing it.
Should really consider putting that top in a garage until you get it fixed, or spray some primer to stop it from rusting.
The hard top looks great keep the porsche , i really enjoy watching your channel.
That top looks great so sad it got damaged
Yes Randy I really like the hard top. It's like you have the best of both worlds. !!
So under rated these cars. Hence why i bought one but a coupe manual I drive it daily and i mean DAILY.
Hi Randy, I miss the mix of carnage and regular content from Copart. The house stuff is really great, would have been good to have seen the mowing process perhaps rather than the finished deal. Am really interested to see your fiances input into the new house too.

Looks good both with and without. Nice car.
Love the hard top Randy never been to fond of the convertible my dad had a 99 in 04 and he hated the wind noise it was horrible but no matter what it's a Porsche

That hard top was a great deal. Thanks for sharing your story today
Looks slick.
Pull the rear deck trim panel off and look for the part number on the underside Randy.
Nice pick up on the hard top..Looks way better!
Randy Take it to a upholstery shop they can fix it cheaper than you can buy another one for. It's called a package try or I think there still call that anyway. Yes the top makes the car it's a shame it got damaged in shipping.
The hardtop was a good purchase. Check with Weird Beard about the paint work. I think you should keep the Porsche.
Love the hardtop! Good to see you getting after it.
Nice hardtop! Looks good!
Yes definitely tent the windows the Porsche is looking great
Love the Porsche only thing I don't like is the chrome wheels
Tint the windows its gonna be awesome
I would put the caps in to keep dust out
I am a big fan of the hardtop. Makes the car look so much better. With that much damage from shipping it was either packaged poorly without proper padding, or handled by FedEx. Enjoying your channel. Tint the windows
Amazing top , get tints and repaint that rear piece instead of upholstery. Love that Porsche Cabriolet.
The size of it makes it so fun to drive
Take the rear shelf and the door panel to a car trimmer they are easy repairs would make a good video :o)
Looks awesome! Can’t wait till I’m old enough to start doing this! Big fan keep up the good work!
Try recover the rear trim panel. I won’t hurt to try if you were going to buy a new one. Love the Porsche. Yes on the hard top
Don't feel to bad about it, polish what you can, and sell the car anyway with the roof included, so yeah! The buyer gets 2 in 1
What a steal man I would of grabbed the in a heart beat best handling car ever!
Your on the right track with that car. I like it.
Yes to tint
North East as well we only have a few days nice enough to go topless. It would be nice if I could score one like it up here.
nice review Randy, We think you should keep this car too!
Keep the hardtop Randy, it looks good..
keep the Porsche its a great car you worked hard for a special car try taking that back panel off and see if you can re-glue it shouldn't be too hard
