I want to tell your son , he doesn't know or realize how incredibly spoiled but very fortunate and lucky he is to have his father (you) give him the opportunity to pick out his first car. I'm happy for him. In fact I'm kinda jealous, my first car my mom got me in high school 2015 was a 1998 Honda Accord that I didn't have a choice but still was ok with and grew to love driving, since I still have it to this day at 232k miles.

@jaidenlsx it really is, I was lucky to part out the old family Montero Sport and use the funds to seek out my dream LS400. The Sopranos is my favorite show after all.
The Saab convertible has an isolated convertible top and can be driven in the winter just like a coupe. It is very safe to drive. Saab cars have completed the hardest crashtests. And aced them.
That's a thing with a vast majority of modern four seater convertibles. Actually had a 90s Audi Cabriolet and I have to say that in winter it actually was easier to warm the interior than in any of regular closed top cars I've owned so far.
I will never forget my first car, it was a 2012 BMW 550 4.4l Twin turbo V8 with 400hp. I saved up years before I got my license to buy it. I found it for sale and asked my mom to give me a ride to buy a car. Throughout the next year and a half I had gotten coilovers, wheels, full bolt on / tune and made 530whp. My mom didn’t really realize how fast it was till I gave her a ride in it 😂
Randy you are a great father and person. You have done a great job raising your son clearly. He is a wonderful young man who takes after you and his mother I’m sure. Congratulations nick! 🎉
That’s awesome! I’m 19 and I got my first car a little an over a year ago, a 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc with the 5 speed manual. Been a great car, and it’s known to be a very safe car. Good on him for picking the Aero, a great choice!
Awe... This was great to watch. Brought back memories of when my son started driving. I loved the wholesomeness of the interactions. My son just celebrated his 28th birthday (November 24th). The years go by so fast. But it's good to look back and reminisce about the times when they/ we were young. You drive carefully Nick. Wishing you all the best.
Great pick on the Saab. My first two cars were old 3 series and the knowledge and experience I've gained from fixing them with my dad has been invaluable to me. Hope he enjoys!
I had been thinking the 9-3 all along. During my fifty years as a pro mechanic I was a SAAB dealer tech for a couple years. They are solid cars, most of the repairs I did to 9-3s were broken cup holders, trunk lid harness, ignition switches and lost keys. DO NOT ever lose all your keys! That will end up costing you ~$2k. Never, ever have less than two keys. Other than that they are pretty reliable, fun cars.
What an unbelievably lucky young man. My dad bought a 1966 VW Deluxe Type 2 (Microbus) for me to drive to high school during the late 1970's. He made me quite aware that the vehicle belonged to him and not me, and he threatened to take the keys away if I didn't behave. Needless to say he took the vehicle away from me when I went against his wishes and got married at 18. I'm still married to the same gal almost 44 years later, but the '66 VW bus was given to my brother and sold for $4,000... a decision my brother laments to this day!
I'm glad you decided to make this video!! So we have learned at 13 minutes in that Nick is a "Man of Culture". Its too bad that they don't make Saabs anymore, they just had a style about them that still looks amazing in today's age. So, back in 16 I met a woman about 10 years my junior that had 3 young kids......Fast forward to 2024 and we've been married 4 years, I adopted her daughter about a year ago (who gets her permit this week), and I'm finishing up teaching my oldest Step Son to drive in his 07 Camry!!! BTW my kid wanted Pinkman's Monte Carlo SS from Breaking Bad (He saw yours and said "Hell George, Just get me His SS") I made him settle for a Reproduction of His License Plate for the Front. Its amazing how fast kids grow up (Mine are in their 20's).
That is a beautiful story George. We have a lot in common. My fiancé is also 10 years my junior and I have raised Nick as my own. Thanks for sharing man!

I worked in service at a cadillac/saab dealer in FL and they are tough to get work done on. You will have to find a good foreign mechanic, but Saab owners do love them, they were designed by airline pilots, but we only had 2 mechanics that could work on it, the other mechanics ran in the other direction.

Awe I like Saabs. Safe, unique, fun to drive, and pretty reliable. Seems a few commenters don’t know how to have fun and enjoy cars. I think this is a great choice for a first car. I’m sure he will be willing to turn a wrench on it to gain some valuable experience. People think Saabs cost a fortune to fix, but that’s not really the case. It’s not really much more than a VW or a Subaru for parts. Keep teaching him good stuff!
I have no clue how people think that the vic would be more fun, the saab is smaller, handles better, much much safer,, has a much better engine in terms of what you can do with it to make it more powerful, it's a convertable two door which is inherintly more fun than a big land yacht like the crown vic, and I wouldn't even give that hyundai a second glance. Only problem is that it's the auto
Very nice! My first car was an 88 Eldorado, which was smashed by an ex family member then gave away as I was tearing it down to repair at the age of 16. I ended up with an 85 Firebird with the 2.8L v-6. Congrats Nick!

The Saab, Kia, Transporter and Catera (Opel Omega B2) would have been my picks. Saab: Reliable, stylish, powerful, Swedish. Kia: This would probably be my pick because it's the newest one. Transporter: These are amazing to drive and the Transporter is one of the best out there in terms of practicality. Which engine it has matters a lot. B2 Omega (Catera in the States): I've had one of these and they're fun and very cheap to maintain, at least here in Europe, although their fuel consumption is quite high.
dude your son wanting a foxbody as a first car is the last thing I was expecting you to say, but is absolutely FUCKING AWESOME. As a foxbody owner of a hatch and a coupe, I fully support him and his answer. It is the best answer he could have said imo

Got a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited in my garage, bought it new. Love my Sebring convertible!! But a TC? Quality and parts could be issues. Good that it has the 2.2L Turbo....but the Saab is a better pick. Then again, that Crown Vic is cool too. Love me some 4.6L v8 RWD action.
What a cool kid, picked every car I would've gone for too. Even though I would've probably tried out the Kia with it. Anyway absolute splendid parenting this, giving suggestions but not trying to convince him and let him follow his own path. You're an amazing father.
I have a 2009 Saab 9-3 2-0 T sedan. Watch the fuel send unit. The gauge will eventually go out. It fails often in the 07 to 09’s. The motors do go in the windows. I have replaced 3 of the 4. The other thing is that the headlights have fuses that blow. The other things to watch are the coil springs and the valves during the winter.

Three things will go wrong with that Saab. The DI which is directly on top of the valve cover , the fuel pump and the screens used to go bad but that may be a gm. Low pressure turbo on those v6 pushed very little boost. Solid cars. The top will give you fits eventually. Cluster fuc: to get all the sensors in align and the cylinders will leak.
There was a model of convertible previous to that called a viggin it was a boosted 4 with a bit of easy tuning it was fast and fun. Same problems with the top.

The Accord is a good looking car for what it is, nothing wrong with that, especially for a car you didn't have to buy from your own money
My first car was a 1999 in 2018 when I was and I worked at dominos Wallgreens and skating rink all at once at one time for 8 month str8 workin over 80 hrs a week been working dominos for a year prior before working at all 3 at once then I had 2 job for 4 months then all 3 so I worked every day and 2 jobs a day one morning one till 1 am till I was 18 then covid hit and I collected unemployment and moved on my own since I saved over 20k and bough a charger RT 400 month for 3 years put 10k down and 4k into Bitcoin ashen it was 4k a coin sold half at 40k and I’m thinly bout selling the rest rn but part of mee feels like I should keep some so I’m sell at least .2 worth I have .5 of Bitcoin left since Bitcoin got 100k a coin now 🎉 btw bought the 1999 for 600 cash from my moms ex boyfriend mom cause he got new car and his mom needed the money ran great v6 engine
@chasethebank3486 cool. But I had a hard time understanding the stream of consciousness writing style you employed here.
99 CG8 Accord was my first car. In pretty bad shape but still best handling, emotional, fun vehicle over all modern VW group and European non sporty vehicles. I pick her with 380k KMs, in 440k valve dropped into cylinder.
You guys get your own first car from your parents? AND STILL COMPLAIN!? DANG
Here we arabs will feel ashamed and guilty if our parents buy for us(but rich like the gulf the parents buy)cus now we can earn money and buy , bc they already did so much for us. Plus here the driving age is 16
No surprise he went for the 9-3 Aero, that's an awesome sleeper. My first car was a 97 Lexus LS400, you deffo never forget it.
damn dude that’s a cool first car mine was a hyundai accent 😂
@jaidenlsx it really is, I was lucky to part out the old family Montero Sport and use the funds to seek out my dream LS400. The Sopranos is my favorite show after all.
@jaidenlsx my first car was a 96 cadillac deville
Mine was a 97 civic hatch but it was vary rusty and high mileage molested Honda type vibe
Yeah!! 1uz are the best man, my first car was a sc400
Like multiple layers of soft top material or something like that. To be fair I've seen someone driving an N/A Miata in snow with the top down.
@@deegee5526I think he means insulated. It’s thick and multilayered material.
I’m sure they meant Insulated!
Bet it's not safe if it gets rolled..
My mom didn’t really realize how fast it was till I gave her a ride in it 😂
@@Kicksnwhipz still got the car?
Randy you are a great father and person. You have done a great job raising your son clearly. He is a wonderful young man who takes after you and his mother I’m sure. Congratulations nick! 🎉
Thank you so much.
@ of course. I hope to see a video with you and nick fixing the little things the Saab needs! That would be awesome. Hope he loves and enjoys it!

I would have demanded the AC/DC shirt be included with the car and the back in black cassette to go with it!
That’s awesome! I’m 19 and I got my first car a little an over a year ago, a 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc with the 5 speed manual. Been a great car, and it’s known to be a very safe car. Good on him for picking the Aero, a great choice!
@@SanJoseTransit Same here! It was my second car though
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds More than you know. My wife got her RN in 2020 doesn't Jessica graduate soon?? I was the only income while my wife went but, it has really paid off for us long term.

@@georgescarvidsWow man yes my fiancé is doing her rotations in January. I’ve supported us while she goes to college. She is getting her RN.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds congrats is nick an only child or u plan to have more
That's a very smart boy ! The nicest and the safest car ! He will be safe and have plenty of metal around him ! Enjoy your cool ride !
I worked in service at a cadillac/saab dealer in FL and they are tough to get work done on. You will have to find a good foreign mechanic, but Saab owners do love them, they were designed by airline pilots, but we only had 2 mechanics that could work on it, the other mechanics ran in the other direction.

Randy,
As a 17 year old that drives a Saab 9000 (and has a 9-3 in the family), it is extremely exciting to see that Nick chose the Saab. Looking forward to see it sticking around!
How do u like yours and any constant issues?
@@jessewynne8193 I enjoy mine, clutch recently went out though, and it took nearly a month to find parts, but we're going to get started on that pretty soon.

My best friend was a car hoarder and gave me my first car when I was 18. I get your sons feeling sorta! (It never ran but got me started. Always grateful for you Pat!)
My first car was a $3200 mustang LX 4-cyl coupe (Notchback) that had a v8 302 swap. Leaked 3 different fluids and had the most ANNOYING beep that would. NOT. STOP. Loved every single minute of that car
Yes my best friend had two 4cyl 93 Ford mustang lx trim cars a single exhaust non ac 5spd manual Calypso metallic green and silver pinstripe, and a silver automatic factory header 8 plug 4cyl and both were peppy for 4cyl cars but that green mustang 5spd would roast the right rear tire and you could actually rip that car around in a donut you try that in the silver automatic car and you will kill the motor and have to restart it
Nick is such a nice grounded young man very polite aswell 👍
Because he never had a chance to back talk. Dad never stops talking 😂. MF that guy can talk
Awesome gift Dad! You were correct at the end when you said, "you'll become a mechanic owning this car." 😁. I love the look of Saab, friend had one. Was in the shop all the time. Best of luck to your son.
The Crown Vic Got me 🔥🔥🔥🔥
une bien trop grosse voiture pour un jeune conducteur !
il faut que se soit économe en carburant , pièces détachées et assurance !
I am 16 also and love watching your videos, you taught me to love working on cars. I learned a lot from my dad and you about working on cars, from watching your videos. I have been working on my dad's old 2001 Chevy Silverado and I am going to probably drive that and also drive the new Ram, every once in a while lol. I'm going to do my permit test tomorrow wish me luck. Keep on making great content!
That 85 Firebird was a sweet car!
@AutoAuctionRebuilds yissir!
Dam bro I’m gonna finally admit it .your a dad that so many would dream to have . Thank you for having the best TH-cam channel for the people of culture ❤❤❤
LOVE that cutlass! OMG! I think that was one of the nicest designed US 90's cars of the middle of the pack brands. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Congrats to Nick for his first car 🚘💯👍. I can remember my kids first car. Thanks for sharing Randy 🎬👊🫡
Thank you for watching.
Take the crown. Vic never get pulled over
I've been pulled twice since 2018 in my Crown Vic and both were b.s stops.
I had a decommissioned police car back in the early 90s and actually got my first speeding ticket in it. It was an 88 Mustang SSP and the deputy that pulled me over clocked me at 91 in a 50. Good times. I sure miss that car.
😮 when I had my crown Vic, I couldn't make a block without getting stopped, mostly when I visit my family in Mississippi. Arkansas hated that car. Automatic search.
That’s not true depending on how you look you get yourself pulled over in a New York minute ..
@infinity3jif hey don't feel bad I got stopped on my bicycle and got cited for improperly turn..... challenged cop could not produce proper code for ticket..dismissed yet he POed
Not driving that cop car just for fun is criminal
Hell yea I had a Saab at 16, he will learn a lot with that car but have a hell of a a lot of fun
soon he will learn that he should have picked the Crown Vic haha
@@Krzysztof_88 The maintenance would be the bad part specially with SAAB brand out will be hard to source out parts for the car..
by comparison he could choose the brand spanking new 2023-2024 KIA Sportage he might would still have warranty..
Yeah thats a nice ass car dude.
@@poplaurentiu4148 I mean, yeah Kia would be probably the most reasonable choice, but... It's awful. It's some ugly crossover. I can't imagine a teenager enjoying old people's car.
@@Krzysztof_88so the kia is a old peoples car but not the vic?
Congratulations Nick!! You picked probably the safest car Randy owns! The Saabs are a tank, very solid and if you take care of her, she'll last forever. Or until you can't find the parts anymore, lol. My sister had a Saab, I think hers was a 1985 or so. She loved it. I enjoyed driving that car, and I'm 6'3" tall never felt cramped in her. You're probably going to be 6'3" to 6'5" and you'll be getting other cars in the future that you're going to get based on head and leg room. Good choice again, and I hope you get another 100K on the Saab!!
Nick's taste in cars is crazy😂😂 i would have picked the crown victoria off top!! 😂😂😂😂
The Crown Vic man best value and solid. ✌🏼
Yes! I’ve recently been watching videos of people off roading with stock crown Vic’s and they’re very durable and tough
I would’ve picked the Vic
How come he did not test drive that one? was it not an option?
@@speedracer8996 It's boring and out of style no way a teenager chooses that as his first car. Not a "looker" at all like the Prowler and the Saab he eventually chose. Kids go more for looks and style and not just about reliability and toughness.

I did not get to pick my first car! Lucky kid! My father brought home a 1974 Lincoln Mk IV for my first car.
my 1st 65 mustang coupe was a low compression mess, sold it at a $50 loss and bought a great 67 coupe with a fresh 289 rebuild.
@@ProtoType99468 My first car was a 65 Mustang, too. 289/2bbl coupe. Originally Wimbledon White with a Red interior but I changed it to metallic turquoise (a greenish version) with a black interior which was a mistake but still looked pretty good.
My car barely made it home a few miles due to a bad carb but I learned a great deal working on it.
Ironically, it had a car stereo installed before the carb was replaced.
Good times!
I ended up later replacing the 65 with a just decommissioned 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 SSP- X-Florida Highway Patrol car a few years later. That was a really fun car that I’m lucky I didn’t kill myself in. I learned a lot about driving in that one.
That would have been a first pick for me if I could though! Those were badass cars for sure.
@@DGTelevsionNetwork It was a nice car being triple white and the Cartier Edition, but when your best friends are driving a Camaro and an MGB it loses its appeal.
I got to pick mine; because I had to pay for it myself. 1967 Volkswagen Beetle 1500 Plate 991 FXE. Sold it when I could not afford to keep it any longer. Can't remember what I paid for it.
Pretty cool dad. Just enjoys the ride and has fun. Lets his kid make his own decisions as long as its safe for him. Fun video. My friends parents had a dodge dynasty.. and we were probably 16-17 and his parents let us drive it for a trip. We didn't tell them but we drove all the way from Kansas City to L.A even though we were only supposed to go to Colorado. Drove that thing around non stop for 2 weeks. They couldn't figure out how we blew the radiator in Phoenix even though we were supposed to be in Colorado. Good memories.
When I was 15 my Dad said if you want a car you better go to work! So I did!
Haha same. I worked at a sushi restaurant for a year to afford my first car, picked up a Lexus ES with 180k miles. Mint condition. Still have that baby now at 353k miles, only 2nd owner! Take care of your cars and they’ll take care of you. That car has carried me through half of high school, all of college, and now into my “career” still rolling in the Lexus. I’ve owned 4 Lexus now, but still have my trusty ES.
Nick is an awesome kid. He's grown up right before our eyes. It's cool to see good kids grow up on their way to becoming great adults.
Yep. 2 door. Sporty. My first car I bought with babysitting money. 65 Volkswagon. Sold it and bought 65 Impala SS. All Power seats and windows.White leather . Loved that Car.

Appreciate that, glad you're enjoying it!
In a different video I commented that I would pick the Saab. Nick is a man of taste. Glad that’s what he picked. I’m definitely jealous.
No way. Literally any Saab in the world is my dream car. I am so so happy for you Nick!!!!
Post 2000 manufactured Saabs are just no good.

First, nice of you Randy to even consider getting your son Nick a car. Great choice Nick! Except for possible parts availability issues, maybe your Dad could buy a parts car to have around? LOL When you said you wanted to drive the TC...I just laughed and said "NO Nick!! Don't Do IT!".....don't get me wrong, I am a Chrysler guy.
Monkey Wrench Mike recently repaired and refreshed a Saab. I’m sure that he can guide him if he needs parts or repair.
What a cool kid, picked every car I would've gone for too. Even though I would've probably tried out the Kia with it. Anyway absolute splendid parenting this, giving suggestions but not trying to convince him and let him follow his own path. You're an amazing father.

Hydraulic cylinders that is. Also that engine is prone to blowing head gaskets at around 125 or less. Expensive to repair.
