My hair reduced falling out after I did a few things. I used homemade hair masks like avocado and yogurt. I avoided combing my hair when it was wet to prevent it from breaking. Once a week, I rubbed my scalp with hair oil. I cleansed my hair once or twice a week with liitlextraa cocoonian shampoo.

My D3 was at 4 in March of last year. My doctor has me on 50,000 a week and it's taken over a year to get to 47. I've have hair loss/ thinning for quite some time and I'm sure I've probably had a deficiency for years. I'm amazed that primary care providers don't know about this. Mine keeps telling me to use biotin and minoxidil. Those have NEVER worked for me. I'm so glad I've found your channel.

I started using it after 6 years of hair loss around my hairline. My hair stopped falling out in clumps in the shower in days and within 2 weeks my bald areas are full of baby hairs. I haven't felt confident about styling my hair for years. Now I can pull the sides back and pin them. Take a liquid D3 gel cap.

      @francescabaker-martin2080 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@jnarula71 not yet. As this doctor has suggested, I'm trying to boost my D3 to 60 nmol/L, and I ordered Ferritin and Zinc to take in conjunction with the D3. I also resumed taking a Biotin supplement to strengthen my hair. I'll have to check back in sometime in December to give an update.

@lisettes.9598 Good to know it's worked for you. I've been taking a 50,000 unit D3 gel cap once a week for a year, and I have been directed by my doctor to continue it for another year because of bone loss (osteopenia) and the onset of osteoporosis to rebuild my bones. I'm 61 and a lot of my issues are due to menopausal hormone imbalances.

I can vouch for the possibility that a deficiency in vitamin D can contribute to hair loss. I started losing hair when I was 23 during my time at university when I had so many assignments that I began staying up all night and sleeping all day almost never leaving the house except once a week. It got worse the more I studied at night over the years... I also have other symptoms associated with a deficiency in vitamin d... I have seen a medical journal about a patient with severe mpb and after a year of vitamin d supplements his hair grew back.

      Not especially
If you are deficient in any vitamins and minerals you can have hair problems. However hair loss is common with low vitamin D3, iron (ferritin and haemoglobin), B vitamin ( folate and B12) and zinc levels. Make sure all these levels are in the middle of the range.
Also check your thyroid hormone levels and if you are a woman be aware that contraceptives/HRT can cause hair loss issues.

Please take the hair loss quiz on our website to know which products will work for you: www.advancedtrichology.com/products/blood-type-test-abo-grouping-and-rh-typing. I commented on this about a month ago stating that my vitamin d levels were 33, I looked into this more and my results were measured in nmol/L which is different to ng/L so when I converted it it come back at 13ng/L then I looked back at my other vitamin D results over the years which were 62, 42 and 49 nmol, all of them below 30ng/L once converted
Could this have been one of the causes for my on and off bouts over the last 7 years since having my daughter? I’ve also read that low ferritin is a cause of burning scalp and my ferritin is 37 and previous years has been much lower

From William’s Assistant Trichologist MJ: Yes, low vitamin D3 is most likely the reason for your shedding. You would want to maintain optimal levels of nutrition and that also includes iron, ferritin and more. I would recommend getting blood tests for vitamin D3 and ferritin to know your current level as you have to be in a very specific range when you're dealing with hair loss. Here are some of the products we recommend.
DHT Blocker: take 2 in morning with food and 2 in the evening with food www.advancedtrichology.com/products/dht-blocker-vitamin-with-immune-support-saw-palmetto-and-green-tea

Biotin does nothing. Take D3, these are the D3 cofactors and need to be taken together: K2, Magnesium, Zinc, Boron. You can take B complex which Biotin is part of but just taking Biotin does nothing. Also good healthy diet no junk food. Protein like Salmon, eggs are really good for hair growth. Eat eggs everyday because egg has lot of nutrients the hair needs.

I had a blood test and my vitamin d level is 33, could this be a reason?
I am just hoping it will resolve as it’s affecting my mental health so much
My iron was on the lower side but not enough for my doctor to prescribe me anything so I am taking iron off my own accord

    Thank you

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey @LeahFinlay-p6u! I’m so sorry to hear about your struggle with telogen effluvium-it can be so emotionally draining. 💔 Let’s look at what might be going on and how you can address it:
      ---
      ### **1. Vitamin D and Telogen Effluvium**
A **vitamin D level of 33** is on the lower side of normal (depending on your lab’s range), and research shows vitamin D is essential for follicle health and hair regrowth. Low levels could definitely contribute to your recurring telogen effluvium.
      - **What to Do**: Aim for a level closer to **50-70 ng/mL** for optimal hair health. Talk to your doctor about supplementing-most people benefit from **2,000-4,000 IU daily** of vitamin D3, but get guidance based on your needs.
      ---
      ### **2. Iron Levels**
Even if your doctor didn’t prescribe iron, **low-normal iron or ferritin (iron stores)** can still cause hair shedding. For hair regrowth, ferritin levels above **50 ng/mL** are often ideal.
      - **What to Do**: Keep taking your iron supplement (with vitamin C for better absorption), but monitor your levels to avoid over-supplementing.
      ---
      ### **3. Possible Annual Triggers**
Telogen effluvium often recurs because of a **trigger**, such as:
      - **Stress** (physical or emotional)
      - **Hormonal fluctuations**
      - **Seasonal shedding** (some people experience cyclical shedding yearly)
It might help to track patterns in your lifestyle or health to identify what could be causing these annual episodes.
      ---
      ### **4. Rosemary Oil**
You’re on the right track using rosemary oil! It improves scalp circulation and promotes growth. Make sure you’re using it consistently (diluted in a carrier oil) and massaging it in for at least 5-10 minutes.
      ---
      ### **5. What Else You Can Try**
      - **Check Thyroid Function**: Request a thyroid panel (TSH, T3, T4) as thyroid imbalances are a common cause of telogen effluvium.
      - **Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)**: Devices like laser caps can help stimulate follicles and support regrowth.
      - **Gentle Hair Care**: Avoid tight hairstyles, excessive heat, or harsh products that might worsen shedding.
      ---
      ### **Mental Health Support**
Hair loss can really take a toll mentally-please know it’s okay to seek support or even counseling to help manage the emotional impact. You’re doing an amazing job already by addressing the issue and staying proactive. 💛
➡️ If you need more help, reach out at www.advancedtrichology.com/ for additional support and treatment options. You’ve got this! 🙌

Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 With your Vitamin D level at 9.59 ng/mL, that’s definitely on the low side, and low Vitamin D can indeed contribute to hair thinning. Your doctor’s recommendation of 50,000 IU of Vitamin D3 weekly is a good approach to help raise your levels, but here are a few additional tips to support your hair health:
      1. **Follow Up with Maintenance** 🌞: After the high-dose regimen, it’s often helpful to switch to a daily or lower weekly dose (e.g., 2,000-4,000 IU) to maintain levels long-term, but always check with your doctor for the right dose.
      2. **Pair with Magnesium** 💊: Magnesium can help with Vitamin D absorption. Including magnesium-rich foods (like nuts, seeds, and leafy greens) or a magnesium supplement can support better Vitamin D levels.
      3. **Boost Ferritin** 🥩: Your ferritin level of 38.61 ng/mL is decent but slightly on the lower end for optimal hair growth. Aim for around 70-100 ng/mL if possible. Iron-rich foods (like lean meats, beans, and spinach) or an iron supplement might help, but consult your doctor before adding iron to avoid overload.
Getting these levels up should help support your hair and overall health! 🌱

I have been using Minoxidil and it has decreased my hair fall ngl, Doctor also gave me Hair vitamins and Multi Vitamins as well as Calcium pills and also I just got my first injection of Vitamin D done two days ago. Can you please tell me if it is better to take Vitamin D orally or by injection? The doctor said i could also eat it but i was scared to eat it so I went with injection. Taking vitamin D3 without a blood test should be fine especially if you aren't getting at least 30 minutes of sunlight daily. We recommend getting blood test for vitamin D3 aftet 3-4 months of taking it to monitor your levels.

If you’ve lost that amount of hair on the top of your head and you’re also dealing with androgenetic alopecia. You must treat everything involved to get your hair back. Thus you need to treat the DHT that’s impacting your scalp, treat the vitamin D3 deficiency, and then add growth stimulant to support the regrowth. Minoxidil is a growth stimulant. As long as your body will absorb it through your stomach easily than that should work. Remember you want to get your vitamin D three up to 60 ng/mL in your blood. Additionally you may want to simply do a daily dose of 10,000 units sublingual because in my opinion that’s more effective. But make sure you retest every 90 days.

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hey there! 😊 With your vitamin D3 level at **22.31 ng/ml**, you're in the "insufficient" range, so increasing your intake is a great idea to bring those levels up. Here's what you can do:
🌞 **Daily Dosage:** Most guidelines recommend taking **1,500-2,000 IU daily** for people with levels below 30 ng/ml. This amount should help you gradually restore healthy levels.
⏳ **Duration:** It typically takes about **3-4 months** of consistent supplementation to see significant improvement. After that, you should get your levels rechecked to adjust your dose if needed.
⚠️ **Important Note:** Avoid exceeding **4,000 IU daily** unless directed by a doctor, as too much vitamin D can lead to toxicity.
Stick with it, and don't forget to pair it with a balanced diet and some sunlight exposure if possible! 🌱➡️ Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/ for more personalized advice!
