    I got diagnosed with Gerd 1 1/2 years ago and I had to cut a lot of stuff out. It’s weird because I have a clean diet regimen for the most part but, I had three spine surgeries, and my mom has Gerd as well. My cholesterol levels were high. I started thinking 🤔 what happened🤷🏽 I have nausea so I can’t eat a lot of stuff like bread, meat, pasta, rice. I was making up for it with salads 🥗 and the only dressings I like on my salad is Italian or vinaigrette dressing. I started liking snickers candy bar again, I started liking Pepsi cola again but only mixed with Schweppes club soda, after watching this video I’m going back to fresh fruits and vegetables and get my gut health back in check.

      It sounds like you’ve been through quite a journey with your health and diet! Managing GERD effectively can definitely require some significant adjustments to your eating habits, and it’s great to hear you’re committed to getting your gut health back on track.
      Fresh fruits and vegetables are excellent choices as they’re generally easier on the stomach and can help reduce inflammation, which might be contributing to your GERD symptoms. Keep in mind that some fruits and vegetables can be acidic or potentially aggravating for GERD, so it's worth monitoring how your body reacts to different types and perhaps avoiding those that trigger symptoms.
      Considering your experience with salads and liking only certain types of dressings, you might want to try making your own dressings at home. This way, you can control the ingredients and make them more GERD-friendly. For example, a simple dressing using a bit of apple cider vinegar (which some find beneficial for their GERD in small amounts), olive oil, and a dash of honey or maple syrup could be a tasty alternative to store-bought dressings that might be higher in acids or fats.
      Reducing candy bars and soda is a wise move, as sugary and carbonated beverages can exacerbate GERD symptoms. If you're craving something sweet, perhaps consider natural sweet treats like fruit salads or smoothies that blend sweetness with nutritional benefits.
      Keep focusing on your nutrition and maintaining a balanced diet while listening to your body’s responses to different foods. It's a crucial step towards managing your symptoms and improving overall health.

      It's insightful to note the importance of nutrients in preventing hair loss, as outlined in the video. Regarding DHT and its connection to insulin sensitivity, indeed, maintaining a good diet and managing insulin levels can help reduce the activity of 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT, which is often linked to hair loss. Being insulin sensitive helps in regulating hormonal balances that may indirectly influence DHT levels, thus contributing to better hair health. Keeping a balanced diet rich in the mentioned nutrients can support overall hormonal balance and potentially reduce hair loss associated with DHT.

    Doctor Gaunitz, my apartment has really high EMF and I feel sick and weak inside. I notice it contributes to massive hair loss too. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Concerns about high EMF (electromagnetic fields) levels and their effects on health are understandable, especially if you're feeling unwell. While scientific consensus on EMF exposure directly causing hair loss is limited, stress and environmental factors can contribute to overall health disturbances, which might indirectly impact hair health.
      In the context of our discussion on inflammatory hair loss, it's essential to consider all possible environmental and health-related factors that could be contributing to your symptoms. If you suspect EMF exposure is a significant stressor, addressing this alongside other potential inflammatory triggers could be beneficial. It might involve reducing EMF exposure in your environment, focusing on anti-inflammatory nutrition, and managing stress effectively.
      For personalized advice and a tailored approach to handling your situation, consulting with a healthcare professional experienced in environmental health or a trichologist can provide specific insights and treatment options.

    Hey Dr.
    I had thick hair pre-covid and lost nearly 60%-70% of it between 2021 and 2022(I'm 20). I am deficient in Vitamin D and B12 and supplementing for it. I also was diagnosed with Sebherroic Dermatitis. My sebderm is under control, I still feel itchy in the scalp sometimes, but for the most part I don't get flare us like I used to. I'm still losing a few strands of thin hair that fall off in the shower and some baby hairs that fall off. Do you think I have regrowth or am I still losing hair?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It sounds like you've been dealing with significant challenges related to hair loss, Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies, and seborrheic dermatitis. The good news is that your seborrheic dermatitis is under control and that you're treating your vitamin deficiencies, which are crucial steps in addressing hair health.
      The hair you're losing in the shower and the baby hairs falling out could be a mix of both normal hair shedding and possibly ongoing hair loss. However, since you're observing baby hairs, this could indicate new hair growth, which is a positive sign of recovery.
      Here are a few suggestions to help you further:
      Continue Managing Vitamin Levels: Since you're supplementing Vitamin D and B12, make sure to regularly check these levels with your doctor to ensure they're in the optimal range for hair growth.
      Scalp Care: Maintain a healthy scalp environment to support hair growth. Using gentle, hydrating shampoos and products designed for sensitive scalps can help reduce any irritation and support hair health.
      Diet and Nutrition: Continue focusing on a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and proteins can support hair growth and overall health.
      Stress Management: Stress can exacerbate hair loss. Consider integrating stress-reduction techniques such as yoga, meditation, or regular physical activity into your routine.
      Follow Up with Your Dermatologist: As your situation involves multiple factors, continuing to work with your healthcare provider is essential. They can monitor your progress and adjust treatments as necessary.
      The key is to continue with these comprehensive approaches, monitoring your health and hair condition closely. It may take some time to see significant improvements, but being proactive and consistent with treatment strategies will give you the best chance for recovery and regrowth.

    I been on finasteride and oral minoxidil for 3.5 years and I noticed the crown area is the hardest to get density .I've tried injecting ghk - cu peptide and still nothing much more filling in .now I used latanaprost didn't do much either, but a game changer I found out by accident was cyclosporine . I used it topically ,but was scared to take it by mouth being scared of all the respiratory illnesses that my immune system would be compromised to ,but my opthmologist put me on a medication for dry eye disease .low and behold cyclosporine eye drops and besides working on helping with the dry eye it's making my crown area getting dense .I only been using it a month and noticed the added extra benefit .it's only probably due to me being on finasteride and the oral minoxidil, but hey I'll take it .I am hopeful I'm gonna get back to the hairline I had in high-school .who would have figured at 60 I will look younger than when in was in my 30'sto 59 lol😊

    Hey doctor , last blood test i had , my ferritin level was 143.7 ng/ml , and iron was 73 μg/dl which is too low both of them , could it be the reason that my hair looks thinner at the crown?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      t's good that you're keeping track of your iron and ferritin levels, as both are crucial for hair health. A ferritin level of 143.7 ng/ml is generally considered within the normal range for hair growth support, whereas an iron level of 73 μg/dl, depending on the reference range used by your lab, might be on the lower end of normal.
      Low iron levels can definitely contribute to hair thinning, especially at the crown, as iron is critical for producing hair cell protein. If your iron levels are indeed lower than ideal for your body's needs, this could be affecting your hair's health and growth cycles.
      To address this, it might be helpful to:
      Discuss with your doctor about possibly adjusting your iron supplementation if it’s deemed necessary.
      Ensure your diet supports hair health, including foods rich in iron and vitamin C, which enhances iron absorption.
      Recheck your levels after a few months to see if there's improvement and how it correlates with your hair health.
      If thinning continues, further investigation might be needed to rule out other causes like hormonal imbalances or other nutrient deficiencies.

    I was postpartum last year and experienced hair loss, which I was used to since this was my 3rd pregnancy. Everything started growing back in normally around May/June. By August I realized my hair had stopped growing in & was now shedding again. It continued so I visited my stylist at the end of January this year, thinking I just need a good cut. But she alerted me that my scalp was red & inflamed. I made an appointment with a dermatologist who diagnosed me with CCCA. No bloodwork or biopsy was done. I was given info on the condition & prescribed doxycycline and fluocinolone scalp oil for the inflammation. I am skeptical because although I do have a spot at the crown which has been there for years, my main loss has been at the hairline. Could my hairline loss be due to CCCA or is it related to some other inflammation?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hello Doc, what is the best medicine to stop inflamation that is stress induced? is melatonin topical a good option?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there! 😊 Stress-induced inflammation can be tricky, but there are some good ways to manage it. **Melatonin**-topically-might help with some forms of scalp inflammation because it's a potent antioxidant, but it's not a first-line treatment for inflammation specifically. It's more often recommended for supporting hair growth and protecting hair follicles from oxidative stress.
      For **stress-induced inflammation**, it's better to focus on a holistic approach. Here are some options that can help:
      1. **Corticosteroid creams or foams** (if prescribed by a doctor) can help reduce localized inflammation on the scalp.
      2. **Anti-inflammatory shampoos or treatments** with ingredients like **salicylic acid** or **ketoconazole** can calm scalp irritation.
      3. **Stress management techniques** (meditation, yoga, etc.)-since reducing stress at the root is key for long-term relief.
      4. **Supplements** like **omega-3 fatty acids** and **curcumin** (turmeric) have been shown to help reduce systemic inflammation naturally.
      Melatonin could be a helpful addition, but if the goal is strictly reducing inflammation, there might be stronger or more targeted treatments to start with.

    Can keratin inflammate the hair skin ? Since i used it (with the hair plate process) to straighten my hair permanently (it lasts 3 months), since that time i am losing my hair heavily and my hair skin hurts. I've used this keratin process at the end of 2021 and at mid 2024 and i am losing my hair and my hair skin hurts since 2022. After i watched your video, i can understand that i absolutely have an inflammatory hair loss, i have a very aggressive itching + burning on my scalp because of the keratin (chemical) process, and stopping these things + champoing my hair with a pharmaceutical champoo + good diet is enough to get my hair back ? (by the way all of the hair loss is happening on the top of my head, also i went to the lab and found out that my vitamin D level is low)

      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m so sorry to hear about your experience-what you’re describing sounds incredibly frustrating. Let’s break it down so you can understand what’s likely happening and how to move forward. 💛
      ---
      ### **1. Can Keratin Treatments Cause Scalp Inflammation and Hair Loss?**
      Yes, **keratin treatments** (especially those involving heat and chemicals like formaldehyde or other aldehydes) can cause **scalp irritation and inflammation**, particularly in people with sensitive skin. Over time, this inflammation can:
      - Damage the scalp and hair follicles.
      - Lead to **inflammatory hair loss**, such as **traction alopecia** or even **telogen effluvium**, where hair falls out in clumps due to stress on the follicles.
      - Trigger conditions like **seborrheic dermatitis**, which could explain the itching and burning.
      ---
      ### **2. Why Is Hair Loss Concentrated at the Top?**
      Hair on the top of the head is more sensitive to **inflammatory damage** and hormones like DHT (if androgenetic alopecia is also a factor). The combination of scalp inflammation and potentially underlying hormonal sensitivity may explain why this area is more affected.
      ---
      ### **3. Low Vitamin D Levels**
      Low **vitamin D** can also contribute to:
      - Follicle miniaturization (weaker hair growth).
      - Slower recovery from scalp inflammation.
      - Increased shedding.
      Raising your vitamin D levels to an optimal range (50-70 ng/mL) is an important step in restoring hair health.
      ---
      ### **4. Steps to Take for Recovery**
      You’re on the right track with stopping keratin treatments and using pharmaceutical shampoos, but let me add more detail:
      #### **a. Scalp Care**
      - **Medicated Shampoo**: Use shampoos with **ketoconazole** or **salicylic acid** to reduce inflammation and calm the scalp. Alternate with a gentle, hydrating shampoo to avoid over-drying.
      - **Scalp Treatments**: Consider applying anti-inflammatory oils like **tea tree** or **peppermint oil** (properly diluted) or a scalp serum with ingredients like **niacinamide** to soothe irritation.
      #### **b. Nutrition**
      - **Vitamin D**: Supplement with **2,000-5,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily**, or as directed by your doctor, to correct the deficiency.
      - **Other Nutrients**: Include **biotin, zinc, and iron** in your diet or supplements, as these are essential for hair regrowth.
      - **Omega-3 Fatty Acids**: Found in fish or flaxseeds, they can reduce scalp inflammation and support healthy hair.
      #### **c. Lifestyle Changes**
      - **Gentle Hair Care**: Avoid tight hairstyles, heat styling, or chemical treatments to give your scalp a break.
      - **Stress Management**: Stress exacerbates inflammation, so incorporate mindfulness practices like yoga or meditation.
      #### **d. Consider Scalp Treatments**
      If the burning and itching persist, talk to a dermatologist about:
      - **Steroid Scalp Lotions**: These can reduce inflammation quickly.
      - **PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)** Therapy: To stimulate follicle recovery.
      - **Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)**: Can help improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.
      ---
      ### **5. Can Your Hair Grow Back?**
      Yes, it’s possible! If the follicles aren’t permanently damaged, reducing inflammation and restoring scalp health can encourage regrowth. However, it might take **3-6 months** to see noticeable improvement. If androgenetic alopecia is also a factor, you may need targeted treatments like **minoxidil**.
      ---
      Stay consistent with your routine, and don’t lose hope-you’re already taking the right steps! 💪➡️ For more support or to explore advanced options, visit www.advancedtrichology.com/. 😊

      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely! Hair loss from inflammation can benefit greatly from natural supplements with anti-inflammatory properties that support scalp health and hair follicles. Here are some of the top options to consider:
      🌿 **Turmeric (Curcumin)**: Known for its potent anti-inflammatory effects, turmeric can help reduce inflammation. Look for supplements with black pepper extract (piperine) to boost absorption.
      🫐 **Omega-3 Fatty Acids**: Found in fish oil or algae oil, omega-3s help reduce inflammation in the body, including the scalp. They also support hair health by nourishing the follicles and improving scalp circulation.
      🍵 **Green Tea Extract**: Contains EGCG, an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that may help soothe scalp inflammation. Green tea extract can also help block DHT, which is beneficial for androgenetic hair loss.
      🌱 **Saw Palmetto**: This natural DHT blocker may help slow hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia, but it also has mild anti-inflammatory properties that can support scalp health.
      🌸 **Adaptogens like Ashwagandha**: Chronic stress can contribute to inflammation and hair loss. Adaptogens like ashwagandha help your body manage stress better, which can indirectly reduce inflammatory responses.
      🥦 **Vitamin D**: Low vitamin D is linked to inflammatory scalp conditions and hair loss, so make sure you’re getting enough through sunlight, food, or supplements.
      These supplements work best when combined with a balanced diet and gentle hair care. Adding anti-inflammatory foods like berries, leafy greens, and nuts can amplify the benefits too! 😊

      Inflammatory hair loss often results from conditions like folliculitis, alopecia areata, or scalp psoriasis. Here are some general treatment approaches:
      Topical Corticosteroids: These reduce inflammation and can help slow down hair loss.
      Anti-inflammatory Medications: Oral medications like corticosteroids or immunosuppressants may be prescribed by a doctor to control inflammation.
      Minoxidil: This topical solution can help stimulate hair growth, though it may not directly address the inflammation.
      Light Therapy: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can reduce inflammation and promote hair growth.
      Scalp Care: Use gentle, anti-inflammatory shampoos and avoid harsh chemicals or heat styling.
      Consult a Trichologist or Dermatologist: A specialist can provide a precise diagnosis and tailored treatment plan, possibly including prescription medications or specialized therapies.

      It appears that the supplement in question was associated with triggering or exacerbating the patient's inflammatory hair loss. The specific type of supplement isn't mentioned in the video, but it's highlighted that the onset of the hair loss coincided with the start of the supplement, suggesting a potential link. The approach we recommend typically involves identifying any possible triggers for hair loss, including supplements, and eliminating them to see if there's improvement. If you're concerned about any supplements you're currently taking and their impact on your hair health, it may be wise to discuss this with a healthcare professional who understands your health history and needs.

    Doctor Gauntiz, I have been going through inflammatory hair loss for 3 years, the last two years tge sworness went away and itch. However my hair thinned. I want to do as much as I can before it’s too late.
    Do you think it would a be good time to start minoxidil?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Given that you've been dealing with inflammatory hair loss for a few years, and now the soreness and itchiness have subsided, it's understandable that you're considering taking action to prevent further thinning.
      Starting minoxidil might be a good option, as it can help stimulate hair growth and potentially slow down further thinning. However, there are a few factors to consider:
      Underlying Inflammation: Even though the inflammation symptoms have lessened, it's essential to ensure that your scalp is healthy enough to tolerate minoxidil. If there's any underlying inflammation still present, minoxidil might exacerbate it.
      Consultation: Before starting minoxidil, it's wise to consult with a trichologist or dermatologist. They can assess your scalp condition and recommend the best course of action, possibly including a combination of treatments that address both hair thinning and any residual inflammation.
      Monitor for Side Effects: If you decide to start minoxidil, monitor your scalp for any signs of irritation or a return of the soreness. In some cases, people experience increased shedding when first starting minoxidil, but this usually subsides.
      Complementary Treatments: Continue focusing on scalp health by using gentle, anti-inflammatory shampoos and considering supplements that support hair health, such as biotin, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.
      Taking action now is a positive step, but it's crucial to approach it carefully and with professional guidance to maximize your results.

    what blood test markers are indicative of inflammatory scalp, and how to address them? Thanks!

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great question! 😊 If you're dealing with scalp inflammation, there are a few blood test markers that can help identify underlying causes of inflammation, not just in the scalp but in the body overall.
      Here are some **key blood markers** to look for:
      ### 1. **C-Reactive Protein (CRP)**:
      - This is a general marker of **inflammation** in the body. Elevated levels may indicate ongoing inflammation that could be contributing to scalp issues.
      ### 2. **Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)**:
      - Like CRP, this is another marker for **inflammation**. Higher levels could signal chronic inflammation, possibly related to autoimmune conditions or infections that might affect the scalp.
      ### 3. **Ferritin**:
      - Low ferritin levels can lead to **hair thinning** and may contribute to scalp inflammation. In some cases, increasing ferritin to a healthier range can reduce scalp sensitivity and hair issues.
      ### 4. **Vitamin D**:
      - Low levels of **vitamin D** have been linked to scalp conditions like **seborrheic dermatitis** and alopecia areata. Vitamin D also plays a role in immune system regulation, which is key for controlling inflammation.
      ### 5. **Thyroid Panel (TSH, T3, T4)**:
      - Thyroid issues can cause **scalp inflammation** and hair thinning. If you suspect a thyroid imbalance, getting a full thyroid panel is important.
      ### 6. **Zinc**:
      - Zinc is crucial for **scalp health** and controlling inflammation. Low zinc can lead to conditions like dandruff and even contribute to hair thinning.
      ### 7. **Autoimmune Markers** (ANA, etc.):
      - If an autoimmune condition like **alopecia areata** or **lupus** is suspected, autoimmune tests can help identify these conditions, which can cause scalp inflammation and hair loss.
      ### How to Address Scalp Inflammation:
      1. **Diet**: Focus on anti-inflammatory foods-omega-3 fatty acids (fish, flaxseeds), antioxidants (berries, leafy greens), and avoiding inflammatory foods like refined sugars and processed foods.
      2. **Supplements**: If you're low on key nutrients like **iron**, **zinc**, or **vitamin D**, supplements can be super helpful. But it's best to take them under a doctor's guidance.
      3. **Topical Treatments**: Anti-inflammatory shampoos (like **ketoconazole** or **tea tree oil** based), and even **corticosteroid lotions** or creams prescribed by a doctor, can reduce scalp inflammation.
      4. **Lifestyle Changes**: Reduce stress levels-since stress can worsen inflammation-and ensure you’re getting enough rest.
      5. **Consult a Trichologist or Dermatologist**: They can provide a more specific diagnosis based on your blood test results and scalp examination.
      Keeping an eye on these markers and addressing any imbalances or inflammation will help your scalp and hair health improve over time. 🌟

    I was not balding at all and 2 years ago I suddenly went on a rampage mode for months not eating well + extreme stress. Like 3/4 days without food and my temple area all my hair fell out. And hair started thinning alot I am sure it is MPB but also the stress + malnutrition made things worse

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sounds like you've been through a tough time with stress and malnutrition, which can definitely trigger or accelerate hair loss. Extreme stress and poor nutrition can cause telogen effluvium, a condition where hair shifts into the shedding phase prematurely, leading to noticeable thinning. If you're also dealing with male pattern baldness (MPB), it’s likely that the combination of stress, lack of nutrients, and genetic factors contributed to the hair loss you’re seeing.
      The good news is that hair affected by stress and malnutrition can often grow back once you restore proper nutrition and manage stress. Here's what might help:
      Balanced Diet: Make sure you're eating enough protein, vitamins (like B vitamins, biotin, and vitamin D), and minerals (iron, zinc) to support hair health. A good diet can help regrow hair lost to stress and malnutrition.
      Stress Management: Incorporate practices like yoga, meditation, or exercise to help reduce stress, which is crucial in preventing further loss.
      Target MPB: If you're sure MPB is a factor, consider treatments like minoxidil or DHT blockers to slow down genetic hair loss and potentially regrow some hair.
      Acting early can make a big difference! 😊

      For issues related to gut dysbiosis and Lichen Planopilaris (LPP), managing inflammation is crucial. Advanced Trichology offers a range of supplements that might be helpful. The DHT Blocker with Immune Support is designed to reduce hair loss from multiple angles, including hormonal and inflammatory factors, and could be beneficial for someone with LPP. Additionally, considering a tea, you might look at options like ginger or peppermint tea, which are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and can aid in digestion, potentially helping with dysbiosis.
      For personalized advice and to ensure any supplement is appropriate for your specific health needs, it’s best to consult with a healthcare provider.

I have tried PRP, micro needling after but nothing has worked on me..I still experience very bad hair loss. My scalp would feelrighting , a bit burning, pain sometimes..very easy to have redness on my back and front od the scalp..could you please advise if there is anything else I could try? I could not go to twice a week to clinic forever to do the LLLT. I have done the blood test, everything is normal from the demonologist). Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you’ve been through quite a bit with your hair loss treatments. Given that you've noticed a recurrence of hair loss after completing LLLT, it might be helpful to explore ongoing maintenance treatments that can be done at home to continue the benefits of LLLT without frequent clinic visits. Additionally, considering the symptoms you described such as scalp tightness, burning, and redness, it could be beneficial to look into potential inflammatory factors that may be contributing to your hair loss, similar to the case discussed in the video where identifying and eliminating a triggering factor led to significant improvement. It's also worth discussing with a specialist whether adjustments to your current medication might help manage your symptoms better. Remember, every case is unique, so finding the right combination of treatments tailored to your specific condition is key.

      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I’m here to help, and I can imagine how frustrating it must be to deal with painful hair loss, especially when local resources feel limited. Painful hair loss can point to several underlying causes, so let’s go over some possible reasons and solutions you can explore.
      ### 1. **Scalp Inflammation**:
      Painful hair loss is often a sign of scalp inflammation or conditions like *folliculitis*, *seborrheic dermatitis*, or even autoimmune conditions like *lichen planopilaris*. Inflammation around the hair follicles can lead to tenderness, itching, and eventually hair loss if left untreated.
      **What to Try**:
      - **Gentle Anti-Inflammatory Care**: A shampoo with ingredients like *tea tree oil*, *salicylic acid*, or *zinc pyrithione* can help calm the scalp and reduce inflammation.
      - **Natural Remedies**: Aloe vera gel applied to the scalp for 20-30 minutes can soothe irritation. Chamomile tea rinses can also have calming effects.
      - **Avoid Irritants**: Avoid harsh products, tight hairstyles, or anything that might cause scalp stress. Letting the scalp breathe can help reduce inflammation.
      ### 2. **Nutritional Deficiencies**:
      Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, such as iron, vitamin D, B vitamins, and zinc, can impact hair health, and deficiencies can sometimes cause scalp tenderness.
      **Steps to Consider**:
      - **Get a Blood Test**: If possible, ask your doctor to check for deficiencies, particularly iron, vitamin D, and B vitamins.
      - **Diet and Supplements**: Include more nutrient-dense foods like leafy greens, fish, eggs, nuts, and beans. You might also consider a supplement for hair health, focusing on a balanced blend of essential vitamins and minerals.
      ### 3. **Scalp Sensitivity or Nerve Involvement**:
      Sometimes, scalp pain can be due to a condition called *trichodynia*, where the scalp nerves become sensitive, often associated with stress, tension, or inflammation. This can make hair loss physically painful.
      **What May Help**:
      - **Scalp Massage**: Gentle scalp massages can help improve blood flow, reduce tension, and relieve some discomfort. Avoid anything too vigorous to prevent further irritation.
      - **Stress Management**: Stress can make nerve-related scalp issues worse, so exploring stress-relief techniques like yoga, meditation, or even regular exercise can help with pain and reduce hair loss.
      ### 4. **Consider Professional Help Online**:
      If seeing a knowledgeable trichologist or dermatologist locally isn’t an option, you might look into virtual consultations. Many hair specialists offer online appointments, which could help you get a diagnosis and treatment plan specific to your needs.
      ### Next Steps:
      Start with gentle care, focus on nutrition, and consider reaching out to a specialist online if the issue persists. Addressing painful hair loss can take time, but the right approach can help relieve the pain and slow the shedding. 😊

    I was on isotretinoin for 7 months with 20mg dose and i stopped it around 1.5 months back but my hair thinning and hair fall haven’t reversed yet, i lost around 30% of hair. Whats your suggestion to deal with this situation. Please help

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Isotretinoin, commonly known as Accutane, can sometimes lead to hair thinning and hair loss as a side effect, even after stopping the medication. Since you've been off it for 1.5 months and are still experiencing hair thinning and loss, here are some steps you can take to help manage and potentially reverse the situation:
      ### 1. **Give It Time**
      - Hair often takes time to recover after stopping isotretinoin. It may take several months for hair to return to its normal growth cycle. Patience is essential during this period.
      ### 2. **Focus on Nutrition**
      - Ensure your diet is rich in hair-healthy nutrients like iron, biotin, zinc, and vitamins A, C, D, and E.
      - Consider adding supplements if your diet lacks these nutrients, but always consult a healthcare provider before starting new supplements.
      ### 3. **Gentle Hair Care**
      - Use mild, sulfate-free shampoos and avoid harsh chemical treatments.
      - Avoid excessive heat styling, tight hairstyles, and anything that could stress your hair further.
      ### 4. **Topical Treatments**
      - **Minoxidil**: Over-the-counter Minoxidil can help stimulate hair regrowth and reduce further thinning. It’s commonly used for different types of hair loss.
      - **Hair Growth Serums**: Consider using serums containing ingredients like Redensyl, Capixyl, or other DHT blockers.
      ### 5. **Consult a Trichologist or Dermatologist**
      - A specialist can assess the extent of your hair loss and recommend personalized treatments. They might suggest options like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, which can stimulate hair growth.
      ### 6. **Stress Management**
      - Stress can exacerbate hair loss, so incorporating stress-reducing activities like yoga, meditation, or regular exercise may help.
      ### 7. **Monitor Your Progress**
      - Keep track of your hair’s condition. If you don’t see improvement after a few months, consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and potential treatments.
      Taking these steps can help manage and potentially reverse the hair loss you’ve experienced due to isotretinoin.

      It sounds like you're dealing with a combination of scalp issues, including hair thinning, bumps or acne-like spots, and occasional itchiness. These symptoms could be related and might be due to several factors. Here’s what could be happening and some steps you can take:
      Possible Causes:
      Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can cause red bumps or pimples on the scalp. It can be itchy and, in some cases, lead to hair thinning if the follicles become damaged.
      Seborrheic Dermatitis: This condition causes an itchy, flaky scalp and can sometimes lead to hair thinning. It’s often linked to an overgrowth of yeast on the skin and can cause inflammation.
      Scalp Acne: Like acne on your face, scalp acne can occur due to clogged pores, often from excess oil production or buildup of hair products.
      Allergic Reactions or Irritation: Sometimes, hair products can cause irritation, leading to bumps and itchiness. This can also contribute to hair thinning if the scalp becomes inflamed.
      Stress and Hormonal Imbalance: Both stress and hormonal changes can trigger scalp issues and hair thinning, as they affect the skin’s oil production and immune response.
      What You Can Do:
      Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo that won’t strip your scalp of its natural oils. Consider shampoos with ingredients like salicylic acid or zinc pyrithione if you’re dealing with folliculitis or seborrheic dermatitis.
      Topical Treatments:
      Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, it can help reduce bumps and soothe the scalp. Mix a few drops with a carrier oil and apply it to the scalp.
      Aloe Vera: This can help soothe itching and reduce inflammation. Apply pure aloe vera gel directly to the scalp.
      Avoid Heavy Hair Products: Products that are heavy or oily can clog pores and contribute to scalp acne. Try to use lightweight or non-comedogenic products.
      Exfoliation: Gently exfoliating your scalp can help remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores. Look for a scalp scrub or a shampoo that doubles as an exfoliant.
      Healthy Diet: Ensure your diet includes essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, D, and E, biotin, and zinc, which are all important for scalp health.
      Consult a Dermatologist or Trichologist: Since you’re experiencing both hair thinning and scalp issues, it’s a good idea to get a professional diagnosis. They can prescribe treatments like medicated shampoos, topical antibiotics, or other therapies specific to your condition.

    I have some very very fast sudden hairloss, I had this half a year ago aswell then it stopped for a few months and now its worse than ever… Could it be something in my diet or lifestyle or just male pattern baldness? I am currently seeing a dermalogist but they just want to prescribe me minoxidil or finasteride and they aren’t really testing my blood or anything… what should I do? I am only 20 years old. My gut health isn’t the greatest

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Experiencing sudden and severe hair loss can be distressing, and it's important to explore all potential causes. While male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) typically progresses gradually, sudden hair loss might indicate other underlying issues such as nutritional deficiencies, stress, hormonal imbalances, or health conditions affecting your gut health or overall well-being.
      Since you mentioned issues with gut health, it's possible that your body might not be absorbing nutrients effectively, which could impact your hair. Nutritional deficiencies like low levels of iron, vitamin D, B-vitamins, or protein can lead to hair loss.
      Given your situation, here are a few steps you might consider:
      Seek a Second Opinion: Since your current dermatologist is focusing on treatments like minoxidil or finasteride without investigating further, you might benefit from a second opinion from another dermatologist or a trichologist. They can provide a more comprehensive evaluation.
      Blood Tests: It would be beneficial to have blood tests to check for deficiencies or hormonal imbalances. Common tests related to hair loss include ferritin (stored iron), vitamin D, B-vitamins, thyroid function tests, and hormone levels.
      Diet and Lifestyle: Evaluate your diet and lifestyle. Ensure you're consuming a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein. Since you have gut health issues, consider consulting a gastroenterologist or a dietitian to improve gut health, which can impact overall nutrient absorption and health.
      Manage Stress: Stress can significantly contribute to sudden hair loss. Techniques like mindfulness, meditation, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can help manage stress levels.
      Continuing to work with healthcare professionals to get a comprehensive understanding of your health status and exploring all potential causes of your hair loss is crucial. Sometimes, addressing lifestyle, diet, or underlying health issues can significantly improve hair health.

    hellow William. My hair started to thin and I jumped on finasteride nw1. 1 year with no results and hair falling daily on the same ratio. Changed to dutasteride, added minox and still the same. I have Itchy scalp, specially if i dont shampoo after 24 hours. Could this be AGA + Inflammation? I'm thinking the supplementation of creatine or dairy is the cause, is it possible?

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It sounds like you’re dealing with a complex situation involving both Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) and potential scalp inflammation. Despite using finasteride and dutasteride, along with minoxidil, and not seeing the desired results, the persistent itchiness and need to shampoo frequently suggest that inflammation could indeed be playing a significant role in your hair loss.
      Creatine supplementation and dairy products have been discussed in various contexts related to hair loss. Creatine might increase DHT levels, which could exacerbate hair loss in those susceptible to AGA. Dairy, on the other hand, has been implicated in some cases as contributing to inflammation, particularly for those who may have sensitivities or allergies to it.
      Here are a few steps you could consider:
      Reevaluate your diet: Consider reducing or eliminating creatine and dairy for a period to see if there's an improvement in your scalp health and hair loss.
      Scalp Care: Use gentle, non-irritating shampoos and consider adding anti-inflammatory treatments or natural oils that soothe the scalp, such as tea tree oil or coconut oil.
      Consultation: It might be beneficial to see a trichologist or dermatologist who can provide a detailed scalp analysis and possibly recommend a tailored treatment plan that addresses both the DHT sensitivity and the inflammation.
      Managing both the hormonal aspects of AGA and the inflammation effectively will likely provide you with the best chance of reducing hair loss and potentially regrowing hair.

      Dealing with bald patches and an itchy scalp can be distressing, and your doctor recommending a biopsy is an important step towards understanding the exact cause of your scalp condition. A scalp biopsy can provide critical insights that are not always apparent from external examinations alone. It helps in diagnosing various conditions that could be causing hair loss and scalp inflammation, such as fungal infections, autoimmune diseases (like alopecia areata), or other forms of dermatitis which might not be evident through routine checks.
      While it may seem invasive, a biopsy is generally a quick procedure and can be crucial for accurately diagnosing your condition and guiding effective treatment. If you're experiencing persistent symptoms despite treatments, knowing exactly what you're dealing with can significantly improve the targeted management of your condition.
      Here are a few points to consider:
      Understanding the Underlying Issue: A biopsy can detect issues like fibrosis or the presence of inflammatory cells that can influence treatment plans.
      Guiding Treatment: Accurate diagnosis can help in tailoring specific treatments that are more likely to be effective, rather than trying general therapies that may not address the root cause.
      Long-Term Management: Knowing the exact condition helps in managing expectations and long-term care, potentially preventing further hair loss.
      If you're unsure or anxious about the biopsy, it’s perfectly reasonable to discuss these concerns with your doctor. They can provide further details on how the procedure will be conducted, what they're looking for, and how it can benefit your specific situation.

      @@soumyajitbej5614 Consult a professional, minoxidil and finasteride applications have many side effects and if you've been using it for 2 years just to get 0 results I might suggest quitting it, but then your hair would react to the absence of those products too. LLLT might help but reaching out to a professional is a much wiser choice.
