Hey everyone. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to show you how to factory reset a JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker. Restoring your Flip 5 to its default factory settings restores the speaker's settings to what they were when you took it out of the box for the first time. Specifically, everyone who is paired with your portable speaker will kicked off of the device, and if you changed your speaker to play audio in low frequency or some other mode, the Flip 5 will return to its normal mode. But restoring your JBL Flip 5 to its factory settings isn't just good for kicking people off of your Bluetooth speaker. You should restore your JBL Bluetooth speaker's factory defaults before selling it to someone or giving it to a friend or family member, and it's also one of the standard troubleshooting options you should go to before moving on to more drastic measures, such as taking your speaker apart. Resetting your JBL Flip 5 to its default factory settings only takes a few seconds.
And now let's walk through the steps to factory reset the JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker.
Step 1. Turn your Flip 5 on, and then make sure the device is powered on. You can tell the device is on when the Power button has a blue backlight.
Step 2. Hold both the "Volume Up" and "Play" buttons down until the device turns off by itself. This will take roughly five seconds. You can tell the device has powered down when the blue backlight behind the Power button is no longer on, and when you hear this power down sound. At this point, you have successfully reset the JBL Flip 5 to its factory default settings.
Step 3. Press the "Power" button again to power the Bluetooth speaker back on. The device will automatically be in discovery mode, which is indicated by this pinging sound you'll hear after turning the device on, and by the blinking of the backlight behind the Bluetooth button. At this point, there are no devices paired with your JBL Flip 5 speaker, and you'll need to pair a device with the Bluetooth speaker to hear audio through it.

I'd recommend disconnecting all of the devices you have connected to it, then just connect one and see if you still have that problem. I would assume it's bouncing between connecting to multiple devices via Bluetooth.
What about when I charged it, yet it won't work at all?

I am having the same issues! I bought mine yesterday, full charged it, listend to it for like 7 hours and tried to charge again. Now none of my chargers will work on it. And its fully dead when it was previously at 1/4 charge
Same thing happening to me. Used it for just one time. Backlight wouldn’t go off, wouldn’t charge neither would it pair or switch off

I was having problems with distorted (popping) sound on my Flip 5 (volume typically set at 60%). The factory reset seems to have resolved that issue for now. Not sure if/when the problem will return so I'll enjoy it while I can. Thank you for posting this video.

Thx for this tutorial! I decided to do this factory reset of the Flip 5 today because as it was playing music from my phone, it first was doing a crackling sound, and then it started blasting loudly with the sound of a foghorn. *That was freaky.* I turned it off. Then did this reset. As I'm typing, I'm trying to pair the Flip 5 with the phone again. In the Bluetooth setting, it made me delete the Flip 5 that was listed there. Now the phone isn't "finding" the Flip 5 even though they're sitting next to each other and the Flip is doing that search thing it does. I turned the Flip off again and then turned it on (again!). Now the phone recognized it. I hope I don't get the loud foghorn sound again. The steps start at 1:02
This didn’t work for my jbl. My Bluetooth button won’t turn on at all and when I turn it on, all that’s on is my power button. Tried to hold down the + and play button but that didn’t do anything

Great question. That’s always a risk when you do something like that. I’ll show people how to do it, and I’ll advise that they avoid cranking up the volume because it will damage your speaker.

I can't be completely certain, but it sounds like your battery may be done for. If you want to replace it, you'll have to remove the cover from your speaker, and then there are some screws you need to remove to get to the battery. I've just seen other people do this on TH-cam, but I've never done it myself, and I'm not sure what a new battery will cost you.

I’m also having this issue. Just bought it a week ago and after about a minute it completely turns off even though it’s fully charged.

I bought one 5 days ago, brand new (Walmart) , I left my speaker charging about 10 hours and just have a half battery charged, when I turn on and play my music at med volume it turns off after 30 or 40 minutes playing because the battery is empty? I doing something wrong when I charging the speaker or I need a refund?

also....charging it, it blinks a few times as if charging...And then turns off the light. Then flashes again. Rinse and repeat. and then if I unplug it? It goes back into the imfinitely turn on loop....
How odd that thr factory reset does NOT bypass this.... I'm at a loss.

I let it sit for about a month, I think it got wet inside somewhere, but now it works fine.

I truly believe that the JBL speaker are designed to fail under certain devices, with the only purpose to make you buy more devices for do the same, listen music.
The different behaviours with different brands doesn’t have any sense as per the protocol must be the same but is not advices clearly.
I have 2 Flip 5 for do the stereo, plus 1 Xtreme 3 for bass, but this only works fine (95% of the time) in my cellphones.
My speaker has driven me literally to the edge of insanity. It won't stop turning itself on and searching for a bluetooth device to coonnect to. I hate it and am really close to just throwing it in the trash with all the other failed electronic devices I've wasted my money on over the years. Oh, thanks for the video..

I am hating this device.....Anyone else have a huge issues with bluetooth connection to JBL 5 on your computer when you have other Bluetooth devices connected? It's very frustrating. A $150+ device should not do this. And this is why I'm here trying to reset this stupid thing.
nothing of any tips worked but as soon as I accidently was warned that my file sharing was turned off and I turned it back on, my jbl was responding for the first time since yesterday. I had not been able to charge it or turn it on or any blue light or anything. Now it it just started, is now charging.

Try “Forget this Device” in your iPhone or where you are trying to pair it. Let it become discoverable again. It worked for me!

Damn it actually worked, I bought a flip 5 and maybe 2 months after I got it (I take very good care of it) it started doing this thing where it pops every 2 seconds. Noticed it the first time I tried to pair my new phone. I thought it was my phone but now it works perfect.
Press the Power button 5 times rapidly and then hold for about 10-12 seconds until the white light around the bluetooth and power button turn off

Sorry to hear. It may be an issue with how Apple TV works with JBL speakers. I don't have any thoughts.

i was about to get rid of my second jbl now because my first one had a popping sound and i got the 5 and then it started turning off on a full charge, as well as not making the power up/down noise. But it fixed it for now!

I don't think so. There's a specific button combination you'll need to use to cycle through the speaker modes. You'll have to do some digging, as I'm not sure what that is for the Flip 5. I avoid messing with that.
