I just got a Flip 4 for black friday. I immediately returned it and ordered a Flip 5 instead because it's bluetooth range was much worse than my old Flip 3, and the audio wasn't really better. I'm excited for the flip 5 because of the improved audio, and the USB C (Same as my Note 9). My Flip 3 died because the charge port got ruined from my sticking my micro usb in there backwards so many times. Cons: I'm going to miss the speaker feature because I won't be able to answer calls in the shower anymore Edit: I got the Flip 5 and it's bass is kick-ass. Total audio quality improvement over the Flip 3 and 4.
yep. Flip 4's BT range is not great. Plus I could not use connect+ freely inside a house or in a backyard probably due to walls, plants, whatever (again range) . Looking forward to Flip 5's partyboost. not sure if this is good enough though.
I've had both in front of me, and sat through several songs between the two, and the difference in sound quality was really noticeable to my ears. The flip 4 is better, imo. The flip 4 gives you the complete sound, is clear, and for me has enough bass. It can get a bit nebulous in the high's at the highest volume, but it's not so bad that it ruins the listening experience. If you want quality and clarity of sound, and enjoy songs with a rich and varied soundscape, the Flip 4 is damn near perfect. The flip 5 just squashes everything into one speaker, so you won't get all the intended sounds out of it, just the reinforced bass and sturdier beats. If you don't care about how the music was intended, but just want higher volumes with stronger bass and beats, then Flip 5 is for you... But I'd say you're completely nuts to choose it over the Flip 4. And besides, there's more punchier bass based speakers out there, if that's your thing.
I honestly think if you're watching movies on Netflix, the Flip 5 is much better. The fullness of movies is amazing from it. If you're listening for music, the flip 4 is best. I agree with you about the full sound. So I have both. I use the 4 for music and 5 for movies.
Went for the 5. Really love the pink colour they have. Actually, it is a real improvement the Bluetooth doesn’t connect with my phone when someone calls me. I used to have JBL Charge 3, and what was super annoying was that every time I received a call, it would be on speaker immediately. And now, with Flip 5, it’s not the speaker that rings, the music stops and your actual phone rings. Personally, I love this feature. Moreover, it’s perfect for me because I don’t really use Siri. So would recommend 5 :) One last thing - guys don’t worry about the cable if you are wondering whether to get a Flip 5. It comes with it’s own cable, you don’t have to own one yourself in order to be able to charge it! Cheers
The jbl flip 5 has more sound on the left side than right it bothers me....i tried fixing it in settings doesn't work is the flip 4 have this problem..?
The Flip 5 may seem to have more sound on the left side because it uses a single sound driver that is located on, you guessed it, the left side of the speaker. Meanwhile, the Flip 4 uses dual drivers located on both sides of the speaker. So naturally, you will get better sound from the dual drivers on the Flip 4 than you will from the Flip 5’s mono driver.
after all, does the USB-C in Flip 5 support audio connection? as in, if I get a USB-C to P2 converter I could get a similar use as the P2 plug in Flip 4
Yeah. This is JBL's third connection technology. I'm sure there's a reason for it, but from a consumer standpoint it's frustrating. Flip 4 is still a great speaker, though, at a much better price.
Flip 4 sounds unbelievable great hooked up to each other in true stereo mode.. I have that now and it sounds so impressive.. Also as of end of July you can get the factory refebished ones that are perfect.. That's what I bought for around $60-65 each... Honestly but 2 and hook in stereo mode I promise it will be a lot better listen experience
I am connecting my flip4 to my pc using 3.5mm, since the BT connection have lag, which is annoying when watching videos (sound and video are not synced)
Flip 4 all day. I absolutely HATE what JBL did with the Flip 5 and Charge 4! Mono garbage only works with rap and hip-hop music. But for literally anything else with good use of instruments and good vocals you need a duel driver setup in stereo. No you can't hear the separation, but yes you can hear a more open sound stage. Mono just combines both channels into one making for a very compressed sound. It ruins allot of songs. When I had my Charge 4 I couldn't stand the way it sounded so much so that I actually sold it off and purchased another Charge 3 while I still could haha. Should've kept my old Charge 3 and never bothered to buy the Charge 4. I love JBL's products. But I'll go with another brand before I buy another BT speaker. I'll go with JBL again if they go back to a stereo setup. The oval driver is a good idea but it should have been two higher wattage, higher excursion, smaller oval drivers playing in stereo. This way you get a larger surface area then with two round speakers. It would've been a true improvement VS a step back. Also taking out the speakerphone function was the dumbest thing they could've done. At least drop the price if your going to take away features!
Thanks for this. I've watched a few reviews so far and it seems I should get the Flip 4 over the 5. I want the portability as compared to the larger Charge 3 and 4. BTW, is any other company doing a similar speaker, but with Bluetooth 5.0 and stereo?
Flip 4 was already too large for most pockets, why do they need to keep growing it toward the charge, which is the most impractical size they have? Not pocketable and not big enough to carry in a bag. Flip 3 was perfect since it was the same size as a beer can.
Ipx7 means it can stay in water up to 1M for *30 minutes* it’s not guaranteed water proof! Also the button on the back are built in but the ones on the side are stuck on by a adhesive.
Returning the flip 5 and getting the flip4. Because one the charging port changed and having to deal with different wires it’s a headache... thanks for the review
I have the Flip 5 and really upset that the speakerphone feature was removed in addition to the audio jack. Sound is great but not a trie difference from the 4 in my opinion.
I cant chose between charge 4 and flip 5 Because i see that the flip 5 cannot connect with other jbl speaker and charge 4 can so help me pls what should i do
its fire, I have one. best speaker out. durability 10/10 charging 9/10 sound 10/10 (for the size the bass is AMAZING!) size 10/10 looks 9/10 price 10/10
GamingWithNick1029 on my flip 3 you hold the volume down and bluetooth buttons down until all the lights turn on. for example, the power light ,connect light and all the volume lights. im not sure how this is for the flip 5 since they moved the bluetooth button. try using the volume down and party boost. or try the combination i did with my flip 3. hope this helps!
Please help me..... I need to know if the JBL's make annoying tones or voice prompts when you turn it on/off/connect/etc. The speaker I just bought is getting returned because the stupid voice prompts are loud enough to shatter glass and there's no way to turn it down.
The Flip 4 does play tones when it turns on, connects, and turns off. However, they are not very loud and don’t bother me at all. I even quite like the “ramping up and turning on” sound it plays. No voice prompts. Don’t know about the Flip 5.
I have the Flip 4 and I really like it and have had it for about 1 1/2 but it is beginning to give me a crackling noise. Not happy as I don't use it a lot and I take good care of it. Any suggestions?
The only downside is .. that the battery needs to be replaced within 4-6 months.... And its battery is also not so cheap. Its nearly equal to the amount of the speaker itself. I mean, just the second time you're gonna replace the battery, you would buy a new Jbl Flip 5 instead.... Anyone else faced this issue of battery replacement. With in 4-6 months...??
You can't link a Flip 4 with a Flip 5. They use different linking technologies. The Flip 4 uses JBL Connect + while the Flip 5 uses PartyBoost. You'll have to get either two Flip 4's or two Flip 5's.
From what i know... when you on the flip 5...there is a sound... but my flip 5 doesn't produce that sound after i used it for 2 times... what is happening?
Max Dalton Ok , let me rephrase the question. It was mentioned how both speakers will last (12 hours each) But those are claimed playing duration by the company. It clearly says in every box right? I was hoping if u have done a real world battery test for both speaker. I’m pretty sure those claimed numbers are different from real world usage.
Is the latency for the flip5 that high, when you are watching videos or movies on Netflix or TH-cam with bluetooth? Im trying to figure that out, because that is my only thing, that is pushing me away from the flip5 (not beeing able to conect via 3.5mm jack)
It's not bad, but it definitely happens from time to time. If that's critical for you, I'd recommend getting a speaker you can connect to via a 3.5mm jack.
@@MaxDalton And i was thinking, i really want a charge 4 but it is a lot bigger than the flip 5/4, so would it be better to buy a flip instead of the charge for the portability? (I know it is more or less a personal question, but i want to hear your oppinion)
Max - Was wondering what your thoughts were on the 4 or 5 being that we're going to be using it on a boat while completing bathymetric surveys. We're going to have a generator running behind us and the pilot and co-pilot are going to have this placed intween us while listening to podcasts and tunes. We're a bit concerned about volume, as per "quality." Thoughts on this would be great, as well as if the Charge would be a better option being that JBL has a great sale going on today that also ends today  Thanks!
Hi Allen. Very cool. I won't lie, I had to look up "bathymetric" :-) If you were to get a Flip, I'd get the Flip 5 as its louder. I don't think you'd need the Charge 4. I'd be incredibly shocked if that generator is so loud you won't be able to hear. That being said, if you want to be safe, then you should definitely be fine with the Charge 4. Also, I checked out the sale, and the price they have for the Flip 4 ($75) is going to be the go-forward price for the Flip 4 now that the Flip 5 is out, so it's not really a deal. Good luck. Let me know which one you get!
I have bought JBL flip 5, sad to say not good when I heard the sound. Cutted cutted, now continuously playing.. but on the other mobile(Note10+) sounds were very good. Does it has matter on my mobile phone? My other mobile is Vivo Y17
Hi Max, nice review, thanks for it. can you please clarify that whether I can attend zoom calls via JBL FLIP 4, does the mic on it works for zoom and phone calls or it is only for google assistant and apple siri? Look forward to your reply
This is a good question. I honestly don't know the answer for certain. If you join from your phone I think there's a chance you'll be fine. But if you're connected via your computer it probably won't work. Honestly not sure, though. Sorry.
Thanks for the in depth review! I think I'll be keeping my Flip 4 as it is stereo and the Flip 5 is a mono speaker. While that may not be a deal breaker for some, I sometimes enjoy reading a book or sleeping with the Flip 4 playing on my chest, and at that range you can definitely hear the left and right speaker separation. And I also use the 3.5 Aux input 99% of the time.
Great video, but I was wondering if you or anyone else has had any issues with the fact that the charging port on the Flip 5 is completely exposed? Does water, dirt, and/or dust often get stuck in there?
I'm curious about that as well. It's too early for me to tell if it's a big deal. I have mine parked in the garage where I do a lot of woodworking and there's a lot of sawdust and dirt. After a few months I haven't had any issues, but I'm also interested to see how it plays out over the longer term.
Hey Max, great vid. This is really important. I was thinking about getting a flip 5 but many people are saying that it stops working/stops charging after a while. How long have you had yours? Is it still working? Please get back soon, thank you!
i got the JBL Flip4. i didn't use it for a month because I went overseas. when i came back it's facing a lot of issues-not fully charging, sound cracks. now it's no longer powering on. since it's out of warranty, JBL is charging $100 for the repair.
My Flip 4 recently stopped working. When i put it to charge, it makes a slightly high pitch noise and blinks a red dot. So I decided to get the flip 5 today. Can't wait to try it soon.
The Flip 4 doesn't have PartyBoost mode, it has JBL Connect+, which can't be paired with a PartyBoost speaker. You can connect the Flip 4 to other speakers that use JBL Connect+, like another Flip 4 or the Charge 4.
Do you like the Flip 5 or the Flip 4 more? Let me know!

Meanwhile, the Flip 4 uses dual drivers located on both sides of the speaker. So naturally, you will get better sound from the dual drivers on the Flip 4 than you will from the Flip 5’s mono driver.
Can you connect two Flip 5's together for stereo sound?
Yes, using the PartyBoost feature.
Why would they leave the charging port open on the flip 5? Using it at the beach getting sand in it would be a huge issue for me.
Yeah, I wondered that as well. Thankfully, mine isn't going to a beach, lol.
after all, does the USB-C in Flip 5 support audio connection? as in, if I get a USB-C to P2 converter I could get a similar use as the P2 plug in Flip 4
I'm gonna roll with the Flip 4. My kid has one so I like the connectability. Too bad the Flip 5 switched to another connection format.
Yeah. This is JBL's third connection technology. I'm sure there's a reason for it, but from a consumer standpoint it's frustrating. Flip 4 is still a great speaker, though, at a much better price.
Mono stereo doesn't matter ... Sound quality is the priority .. listening from xb21
That's how I feel. It's such a small speaker, the fact that there are two really doesn't matter.
@@MaxDalton it does lol
Flip 4 sounds unbelievable great hooked up to each other in true stereo mode..
I have that now and it sounds so impressive..
Also as of end of July you can get the factory refebished ones that are perfect..
That's what I bought for around $60-65 each...
Honestly but 2 and hook in stereo mode
I promise it will be a lot better listen experience
stereo does matter, just not in a sound system that small
Thanks a lot for the opinion. You just saved me 200 PLN
Thanks for this. I've watched a few reviews so far and it seems I should get the Flip 4 over the 5. I want the portability as compared to the larger Charge 3 and 4. BTW, is any other company doing a similar speaker, but with Bluetooth 5.0 and stereo?
Get a tribit xsound plus! Sounds great!
if both Flip 4 and Flip 5 are costs exactly the same. which one would you prefer?
Flip4
Would an auxiliary cord work with the JBL Flip 5 if I buy a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter to connect the cord through there?
I would like to know witch of these two is better when outdoors?
I ordered a personalized Flip 5, can't wait to check it out. Thanks for your video, very informative.
This JBL Flip 5 speaker has a rich, full sound and the personalized graphics came out beautiful. The paint smell is a little strong but it fades.
Flip 4 was already too large for most pockets, why do they need to keep growing it toward the charge, which is the most impractical size they have?
Not pocketable and not big enough to carry in a bag. Flip 3 was perfect since it was the same size as a beer can.
Ola consulta la batería del flip 4 es igual del mismo porte que la 5
But can the 5 on bluetooth really sound as good as the 4 on aux input? In my experience bluetooth sounds pretty awful compared to a wired connection.
Ipx7 means it can stay in water up to 1M for *30 minutes* it’s not guaranteed water proof! Also the button on the back are built in but the ones on the side are stuck on by a adhesive.
My charging port broke on the 4 any idea if the port is sturdier on the 5?
Returning the flip 5 and getting the flip4. Because one the charging port changed and having to deal with different wires it’s a headache... thanks for the review
Looks like someones lazy. Usb c is much faster and also charges faster. Also fl5 is still fully waterproof with the charging port exposed.
I have the Flip 5 and really upset that the speakerphone feature was removed in addition to the audio jack. Sound is great but not a trie difference from the 4 in my opinion.
I cant chose between charge 4 and flip 5
Because i see that the flip 5 cannot connect with other jbl speaker and charge 4 can so help me pls what should i do
I got a flip 5 for my bike yesterday paid 89$ well worth it the sound is awesome
Any suggestion for which one I can buy.. Jbl 4 or 5
just ordered the flip 4, ill update on sound and overall quality.
its fire, I have one. best speaker out.
durability 10/10
charging 9/10
sound 10/10 (for the size the bass is AMAZING!)
size 10/10
looks 9/10
price 10/10
I think that flip 4 still one of the best speakers, this helps a lot when using charge 4, because charge 4 in solo sounds so bad...
Need this for hotels
Can you use the Flip 4 whilst it's plugged in? i.e. if at home
Listening to this on my jbl flip 4
Hey I just got my JBL flip 5, how do I turn on low freq mode and how do I know when it is on?
GamingWithNick1029 on my flip 3 you hold the volume down and bluetooth buttons down until all the lights turn on. for example, the power light ,connect light and all the volume lights. im not sure how this is for the flip 5 since they moved the bluetooth button. try using the volume down and party boost. or try the combination i did with my flip 3. hope this helps!
GamingWithNick1029 when u first buy it should be on already
It doesn't have it
What is matter with Jbl Party Boost?
It doesn’t work with JBL Connect+ to connect to last gen JBL speakers.
If I have a projector to watch Netflix with can I attached my flip 5 and get the sound through that?
can u use type c to input the speaker??
Thanks for the video! You helped me to bigtime to dedice. Will be getting the jbl flip 5 by next week! 🙌🏼
One thing you missed, the play button on the Flip 5 can also skip to the next song when double-pressed.
Both can
Listening to this video off my flip 4
Shoud I buy the Flip 5 or the Flip essential?
Essential cause it’s cheaper and only 2h battery difference Flip 5 Battery 12h And essential 10h I guess
Its possible that ther will be an update bc the charge 3 did bc it had bt 4.2 so well see but as of rn no buwano
Probably at some point down the road.
With in 4-6 months...??
is it possible to link a flip4 with a flip5? Cause I have an old flip4 and I would like to buy a new one to have them as stereo ...
You can't link a Flip 4 with a Flip 5. They use different linking technologies. The Flip 4 uses JBL Connect + while the Flip 5 uses PartyBoost. You'll have to get either two Flip 4's or two Flip 5's.
Can u tell me Which one is better? I’m confusing
if you want better sound, faster charging, get the flip 5
if you want more connectivity, get the flip 4
fine, ill cop the 5. Just lost my 4 on the count of being too faded! haha, thanks for the video
rip
JBL flip 6 trailer is released .watch my channel 🔥😎
From what i know... when you on the flip 5...there is a sound... but my flip 5 doesn't produce that sound after i used it for 2 times... what is happening?
3:34 listening of this comparsion on my potato speakers...
How long does the battery last on each of these speakers?
I'm pretty sure I cover that in the video.
Max Dalton Ok , let me rephrase the question.
It was mentioned how both speakers will last (12 hours each)
But those are claimed playing duration by the company. It clearly says in every box right?
I was hoping if u have done a real world battery test for both speaker.
I’m pretty sure those claimed numbers are different from real world usage.
Ej Isloco I believe the flip 4 lasts 10hrs, I currently own it and love it
Please reply me fast I've ordered an flip 4 from Amazon and thinking to change it with flip 5 my need is better bass better sound please guide me
Is the latency for the flip5 that high, when you are watching videos or movies on Netflix or TH-cam with bluetooth? Im trying to figure that out, because that is my only thing, that is pushing me away from the flip5 (not beeing able to conect via 3.5mm jack)
It's not bad, but it definitely happens from time to time. If that's critical for you, I'd recommend getting a speaker you can connect to via a 3.5mm jack.
@@MaxDalton And i was thinking, i really want a charge 4 but it is a lot bigger than the flip 5/4, so would it be better to buy a flip instead of the charge for the portability? (I know it is more or less a personal question, but i want to hear your oppinion)
Thanks for the great description 👍
You are most welcome. Glad this video helped you out.
What u mean that the charge 4 Ilis louder
I can hear my flip 5 on the other side of the block
Max - Was wondering what your thoughts were on the 4 or 5 being that we're going to be using it on a boat while completing bathymetric surveys. We're going to have a generator running behind us and the pilot and co-pilot are going to have this placed intween us while listening to podcasts and tunes. We're a bit concerned about volume, as per "quality."
Thoughts on this would be great, as well as if the Charge would be a better option being that JBL has a great sale going on today that also ends today  Thanks!
Hi Allen.
Hows the Bass?
Which is better. This or UE Boom 3.??
I'm more of a fan of the Flip devices, but each person can hear things differently. I'd recommend go and listening to them, if you can.
jbl flip 5 GG or TL version?
For home use, which should I get ? :) I know flip 5 have pink in colour . Does flip 4 have pink too?
If I had to choose between the 2 I buy which one ?
Sorry.
@@MaxDalton Well, thanks for responding mate! Cheers to your work.
I still use a Jbl Flip 2 because of the Loudness. But when the Flip 6 comes out i am gonnna grab the 6.
@The Edwin Manna Filez whattt? no they arent i have a flip 2 and i compared it to the flip 4 flip 4 sounds astronomically better
I have the Flip 5 in Squad edition, it's a very very good speaker :D I love it
I agree. It fell short on functionality for me when compared with the Flip 4, but it's still a great speaker.
is it bigger then the 4 ?
@@marisamendoza2203 Yes, little
Flip 4 awesome old is gold!
So if u have a flip 4 and u wanna get a flip 5 u can’t pair or match them up so they play the same stuff?
You're correct. You cannot.
So the JBL Flip 5 will be protected from water and dust even though it’s exposed through the charging space?
My question is if im in the park or outside doors exercising or playing basketball which one is the best ?
The Flip 5.
I'd honestly probably advise you to get a Charge 4.
Which color has your flip 5 speaker
My Flip 5 is like a deep navy blue. I really dig it.
@@MaxDalton a year later I saw this answer looked to my right and saw a navy blue flip 5
Is Flip 5 play in stereo? or just mono? seems like it have one driver....
Yes, one driver, hence its mono
I was skeptical of the flip 5 but I love mine, it looks great as well especially in the blue color
I agree. I like it, and I also dig the blue color.
Hey Max, great vid. This is really important. I was thinking about getting a flip 5 but many people are saying that it stops working/stops charging after a while. How long have you had yours? Is it still working? Please get back soon, thank you!
Idk man, all those "flip 4 lovers" seem like bots or some paid people
i got the JBL Flip4. i didn't use it for a month because I went overseas. when i came back it's facing a lot of issues-not fully charging, sound cracks. now it's no longer powering on. since it's out of warranty, JBL is charging $100 for the repair.
Do i go for the flip 4 or 5
My Flip 4 recently stopped working. When i put it to charge, it makes a slightly high pitch noise and blinks a red dot. So I decided to get the flip 5 today. Can't wait to try it soon.
Sorry to hear about the Flip 4. The Flip 5 is a good speaker, even though it's missing some of the features on the Flip 4.
No Mic, when receiving calls?
Wait can the flip 4 be on party mode and connect to more speakers?
The Flip 4 doesn't have PartyBoost mode, it has JBL Connect+, which can't be paired with a PartyBoost speaker. You can connect the Flip 4 to other speakers that use JBL Connect+, like another Flip 4 or the Charge 4.
Which ones are worth buying Flip5 and flip4
Wait Jbl flip 4 have connect+ but flip 5 don't have? Or flip 5 have partyboost
im thinking of buying the flip 5 do you suggest yellow red blue or black
I'd get blue.
@@MaxDalton thanks for responding I was thinking the same 😇😇
