To be honest I was feeling crazy about the Trojan war going full D&D with epic horses in armor against Odysseus, but then remember we have gods, stoner fuzzy winions, and a 6 headed monster woman. So the feeling dissipated kinda quickly (But now have inspiration for a war against horses in a D&D campaign)
3:18 FUN FACT : in the original Odyssey, Odysseus, actually, and GENUINELY, didn't want to participate in the war because he couldn't bring himself to left his beloved wife (man's down bad for his wife) and newborn son (at that time). The only reason he participate in the war was because he's tied to an oath to protect Helen of Sparta (in wich her being kidnapped by a trojan was the sole reason for trojan war), so he's dragged to this war. HAHA. 17:52 I'm sorry, but he did drop the kid 😭. HE MUST. 23:50 Just to clear up, It was Zeus who was talking to Odysseus in The Horse and The Infant, not Athena. In the musical (so far) his name were rarely stated (or introduced) directly like other characters (for example: Athena, polites, Eurylicus, who all get a line for introduction) because Zeus can be recognized by the sound of thunder alone.
Omg! Thank you so much for this comment, it cleared up so much. Wow I didn’t realise there were entities such as Zeus involved in Epic. That makes so much sense that he was against the war and him only participating to protect Helen of Sparta and rip the kid.
@@E_Legend02 well he participated because of the oath to protect the rightful marriage, Helen fell in love with Paris and let herself be kidnapped. But Ody tried his best to get out of war, he tried acting like he was struck mad but failed cuz the jackass who went to grab him threw his baby in front of his plow and he couldn't keep up the act without risking his kid
Cool reaction! The Trojan Horse is actually a wooden horse the Greeks hid inside to invade the city of Troy. The horse was the main character Odysseus’s idea which ended the 10 year war
The lyric, "When does a man become a monster?" has a double meaning. When does a child prophesied to kill him, his family, and destroy his kingdom become a monster? When does he become a threat? The second meaning is the question of when does Odysseus become a monster? When he drops a child to his death? Thank you so much for reacting, I love your questions and look forward to future videos!
I haven't even finished the reaction but I loved it so much I had to leave a comment. Having the perspective of someone that knows nothing about the Odyssey or the Trojan war is so interesting to see and you picked up on some stuff really quick it's really impressive. Please continue these reactions, you have good insight and heartfelt reactions! Much love bro, keep it up!😎👍
This is based on the poems of Homer. An ancient poet from Greece. He wrote the Illiad, which is the story of the Trojan war. The Trojan war was between Troy and the Greek Kingdoms (before they became a democratic republic). In the poem the Prince of Troy Paris is giving a task by Zeus. He has to give a golden apple to either Athena, Hera or Aphrodite depending on who was the most beautiful goddess. They each tried to bribe him. Hera promised him power, Athena wisdom beyong any other man on earth. He chose Aphrodite, because he promised him the hand in marriage of the world most beautiful woman, Helena of Sparta, because Paris was considered the world's most beautiful man. Helena was when kidnapped by troy, and this started the 10 years war. The first song is by the end of the war. The next poem is called The Odyssey, and it is based on Odysseus, who fought for the greeks ans ended the war because of his tactics, journey home, which will take another 10 years because of well spoilers. Both poems are from around the 8th or 7th century BC and is considered as some of the oldest ancient literature we still have preserved. Later roman historian Virgil claimed that the surviving troyans would flee the city and go on to found the family line that build Rome
Thank you guys for checking out my reaction! In terms of the next saga, which one should I react to and if there is an order to react to?This was so amazing!
Cyclops saga next, with polyphemus, then survive, both by Mircsy, then remember them by Wolfy the witch, finally you have "my goodbye" by either Mircsy or Wolfy, depending on who you like more so far, both are really good.
I’ve got a playlist of the songs (with animatics) in order if that would help any. And as the previous comment said the next saga is Cyclops with four songs: Polyphemus, Survive, Remember Them, and My Goodbye. m.th-cam.com/play/PLNRMPCWQgxiveMCjn4cdjKQDAaoL7grti.html
I forget sometimes that not everyone knows about the Odyssey and Trojan War, it's fascinating to watch you piece everything together without background knowledge! I'm glad you're enjoying Epic as much as I do!
Nope the horse is in fact a wooden horse it was a clever trick which the main character Odysseus thought of he and his man pretended to lose the war and offer this wooden horse to the trojans as a proof of their defeat or something along those lines and then Odysseus and his crew waited for the right time to get out and attack the Trojans.
Fun fact! there are many gods in this. Greek gods were many things but fair is not one of them. athena is the daughter of zeus, king of the gods who is the biggest f boy.
I think the main problem with Zeus is not that he is just a f boy. There's also the fact that he is MARRIED while being the f boy he is(married to Hera, the queen of the gods), and that he's pretty much an egoistic narcissist that mostly does not accept "no" for an answer (which sadly applies to some of the women he encounters as well), and there's also the fact that he IS a God of Justice along with the God of Thunder stuff, but he pretty much has his own messed up sense of justice and ideals so, when he is to apply his so-said "justice", it mostly turns out to be in a really messed up way and leads to a really unfair situation(as you @E_Legend02 are going to see IF you're going to react to the next songs of the musical, which I totally recommend), which actually goes along with the thing you said about the greek gods not being fair. But this was actually a pretty good way of summarizing everything Zeus does 😂
As soon as you said it was a war between humans and horses, all I could think was that someone's gotta give you a speedrun on the Illiad and the Odyssey lol.
love watching new epic musical animatics. Such a variety of reactions from people who know nothing about the Odyssey story and those who read it before.
Loved your reaction, can't wait for the cyclops saga next! Also to help you out I will try to summarize everything you need to know about the musical; basically the whole musical is about Odysseus' 10 year long journey home from the Trojan War in which they won thanks to Odysseus himself (he also dropped the baby off the wall, that has been confirmed), Odysseus also spent 10 years in the war so overall, he was 20 years away from his home, and away from his wife Penelope and son Telemachus who was just a baby at the time. Each saga is basically about different unfortunate scenarios that Odysseus finds himself in while trying to get home. What you need to know about Odysseus himself is that he was very smart and witty, mostly because his patron was Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
To give some very basic context for the beginning of the story, the Trojan War was started when Princess Helen of Sparta, wife of Menelaus, was kidnapped by Prince Paris of Troy (or she went willingly, there are different versions of the story). Helen was considered the most beautiful woman in Greece, so every eligible man in Greece wanted to marry her, so Odysseus suggested that they let Helen pick her own husband (a completely unheard of idea before then). She chose Menelaus, and to stop any wars that would result from the marriage, Helen's suitors all made a pact to never fight over her, and if her marriage with Menelaus was ever threatened, they would all be duty-bound to fight for her husband. So Paris kidnaps Helen and now every king in Greece has to go to war to get her back. Odysseus doesn't want to go (even though the pact was _his_ idea) and pretends to be insane in order to get out of it, but Agamemnon, Menelaus' brother, threatens to kill his son if he doesn't cut it out. The Trojan War was very long and brutal. The Greeks laid seige to the city for ten years, and countless people died on both sides. But the Greeks were getting desperate. Odysseus had the idea to pretend they'd given up and left a gift for the Trojans - a giant wooden horse - as an acknowledgement of their victory. Secretly, Odysseus and some of his men have hidden inside the horse. The Trojans accept the gift and bring the horse into the city. The Greeks wait until nightfall, come out of the horse, kill the night watchmen and let the rest of the Greek armies into the city and burn it to the ground. And so ends the Trojan War.
Love the reaction man! In hopes of seeing more of those! So, just to clear some things up, this musical is an adaptation of The Odyssey, which is one big story of greek mythology. And although greek mythology DOES have all kinds of magic animals and creatures and stuff but, in some stories(and SPECIALLY with the Trojan War story) they are not THAAAAT much featured(the Trojan War story takes place right before the Odyssey itself, which if I were to judge based on this musical, I think it's safe to say that the Odyssey part of the musical starts in song 3, Full Speed Ahead). You will see some creatures and magic animals and gods being included as the story goes on, that is, IF you're going to continue the reactions of Epic The Musical, which I totally recommend!. I've already seen some people explaining this in the comment section but, the Trojan Horse was actually a giant wooden horse given to the Trojans by the Greeks as a gift to end the Trojan War(which has been going on for 10 years), without them knowing that it was all just part of Odysseus's(the protagonist of the musical) plan to invade the Trojan capital, as the horse was hollow on the inside so that they could hide all the Greek warriors(including Odysseus) inside the horse and then kill all the trojans while they were sleeping and vulnerable. It's pretty much just a story about humans being humans, with some gods interfering in some points of the story here and there, like Ares, the God of War and Bloodshed, who disguised himself as a mortal warrior so that he could just kill some guys around the place, and Zeus(the bearded guy in the clouds in the first song), the God of Thunder and king of the gods, showing to Odysseus the baby that is bound to grow into a ferocious warrior who will avenge his family, the Trojan royal family, by killing Odysseus's family if he doesn't kill the baby first. Which he... sadly does 😥 It's important to state that I don't know EVERYthing about the story myself so, if I said something wrong or something that was an interpretation mistake of the story, any person can and PLEASE feel free to correct me 😅
