Hey David :) I started to rebuild a Puch Maxi S for my girlfriend about 2 months ago and the colour I chose is nearly exact the same - while working on it I discovered your videos and can't believe all the similarities, it made me smile so much! The E50 motor is bloody reliable and I was really surprised when my one started at the first try without using the choke. This weekend I'll put on a new exhaust and then it'll be completed. I was really happy to find the last episode of your rebuild today. When you are interested I can send a picture of my Puch to you :) All the best greetings to you and your wife from Hamburg, Germany - Martin!
Hi David! This year I bought my first bike ever - a 1975 Puch Maxi that was in good shape but needed some restoration and new parts to run well again. I had no prior mechanical experience and needed some help learning about the bike and how it works. Your video series rebuilding the Puch Maxi was amazing as a guide to follow. I do not think I could have rebuilt my E50 engine with new seals, bearings etc without your vids. I just wanted to say thanks for making awesome moped content and for showing all the little steps and tips when you go through a rebuild. Super helpful and keep em coming! - Meghan
Thankyou David for this series of videos. As a UK Puch Maxi owner about to embark on exactly what you were doing i f ound this series really helpful and enjoyable to watch. You seem a great guy and your Maxi turned out great. Hopefully mine will too! Thankyou again. This video will be my reference bible! Drew - UK
Oh my gosh! It's a Christmas miracle! A new episode of DFHS!! The Maxi looks GREAT! I need to resume my Puch Dart project soon, I've gotten a little distracted by some of the other bikes in my garage, namely an old Manco Mini bike I dug up and got running again after sitting for nearly 2 decades. Can't wait for what you've got coming in 2019! :D
Thanks Kelley! The Christmas miracle is that my job let up enough to allow me to visit the workshop and have some fun :-). For 2019, I got the Magnum, the Garelli, and a special project for which I have been slowly buying parts over the last two years. I think I'm almost ready to start it up. Thanks a bunch for watching, and good luck on the mini bike! I love those things!
Hello David , Many thanks for uploading the final video of this project. Please keep going with uploads in 2019 , as I look forward to watching them ,[sitting here on the sofa with a glass of wine] every week, or every month or two, way back here, in Thornhill, Scotland Regards John
Heya John. I’ve got a lot of uploads planned for 2019. Hopefully the J O B let’s me take some time off to actually film and edit them. Have a glass for me! Thanks.
Another great vid and a big 👍 for the nod to Travis Tutorial, his videos taught me so much (although you wouldn't know it from the state my bikes are in). Looking forward to the magnum, especially any engine work as i'm going to be rebuilding a ZA50 soon. Happy new year David
It always fun to watch at your videos David! I was laughing quite a bit at your stopwatch experiment. Working on mopeds never turns out to be as easy as it should be. I recently spend 2 days mounting the crankshaft in the crankcase of my 99z moped. Two whole days! That engine is ridiculous :P
Hi David, Sadly enough Yes. I wrecked the crankshaft bearings after 1000km. Luckily no real damage besides the deceased crankshaft bearings. I pulled the engine apart as soon as I heard the strange noises. There are steel rings inside the aluminium crankcase. These rings sit around the bearings, making it very difficult to mount the crankshaft. Heating the crankcases isn't nearly as effective as with an AV7 engine. The normal mounting procedure for an AV7 engine does not work for this engine. The normal procedure will put pretension on the bearing because they are impossible to fully seat in the crankcase. It took me several days to figure out how you can get the bearings fully seated inside the crankcase without wrecking the crankshaft.
Wow Dave ! You surely did fix that shit. You’ve inspired me to take my time and try to cut no corners cleaning and reconditioning my moped. Nice , nice work Dave
I played around with the timing and got her to break 40 this past fall. But it’s my wife’s bike, so I backed off the timing so it was a little quicker off the line, but less on top. Prolly around 36-37.
Hi David. Is there color code number or RAL number available for the blue color of the Puch. I want to use the same color for my frame as well. Thnx. Cheers mate. Good job!
I went looking to see if I had anymore of the paint, but I might have thrown it away during the workshop move. Sorry about that. If I find it, I'll come back and reply here with the name/code.

Look who's back! Are there no 60cc or even 75cc cylinders over there?
Hey Andre. We have big kits, but if you put anything bigger than 50cc on a moped, you are then supposed to register it as a motorcycle (and get a motorcycle license). Since this one is for my wife, I just tried to make the 50cc one work.
Dave, what are you using as a hard flat surface you’ve got that 2000 grit taped to? I’d imagine it’s not just a regular milled saw off of a 2x10. Wife’s marble kitchen cutting board?
DowntownCanon these mopeds are oldtimers and are not produced anymore while Tomos is very modern and still being produced. Puch is austrian quality unlike Tomos breaks after 2 - 3 years of regular use. ;)

Heya Meghan. Thank you for that! That’s the whole reason I started putting these out. You made me feel good today.
"If she rides half as good as she looks, I'll be a happy man". Took me a minute to figure out you were referring to the Puch.

I was wondering when the follow up would come! Very impressed with how the bike came out, the color is beautiful.
Thanks Brandon!

Thanks Phil! I still think your backyard is a thing of beauty, regardless of the state of your bikes 🤓
@@DavidFixesHisShit my wife doesn't agree, but hopefully that means she wont ming me cracking on with building a workshop

Heya Frank. Your bikes are gorgeous. You are rebuilding the 99z engine?

Thanks a bunch! If you are gonna do it, might as well do it right! Good luck...
I own a puch maxi of my own, not working at the moment, forgot what fun these bikes are to ride.
Looking good! I like the color.
Cheers
Keep up the great work

hey David, I see it's been a while since you posted last. I like this video and I hope yer doin good.
my dad's first ped was a (pook) they were the gas miser greatness of the 70's
Finally a new video 🔥🔥 I just hit 500 subscribers and you put out a new episode. Happy Day for me 😁😁
Hey Dan. Congrats on 500! You have been stepping up your game lately...
David, what band name do you make your music under?
Hey Dustin. You can find my music here: m.soundcloud.com/user-781050447 be kind.. it’s just a hobby 😜
Great entertaining series. I may rewatch all over again. What was the final top speed after the new cylinder and head?
I played around with the timing and got her to break 40 this past fall. But it’s my wife’s bike, so I backed off the timing so it was a little quicker off the line, but less on top. Prolly around 36-37.

I watched this series. 2 weeks later, my neighbor sold me a Puch Maxi (seized) for $25. Not finished tuning, but I will let you know how it turns out.
Woo hoo! Awesome to hear!
Dave, what are you using as a hard flat surface you’ve got that 2000 grit taped to? I’d imagine it’s not just a regular milled saw off of a 2x10. Wife’s marble kitchen cutting board?
That’s a surface plate. Absolutely perfectly flat. You can get them on Amazon, or (like me) at woodcraft.
So what did the final top speed end up being after this new cylinder ???
37 mph...
Why don't all mopeds start like a Tomos with a back kick? So much easier.
DowntownCanon these mopeds are oldtimers and are not produced anymore while Tomos is very modern and still being produced. Puch is austrian quality unlike Tomos breaks after 2 - 3 years of regular use. ;)
Sure can’t wait for the Magnum build. Is it an E50 Magnum or does it have a ZA50?
Let's hope a za50 I wanna see if he goes with reeds or piston port.
Jeremy Cole I sure hope that David doesn’t have to dig into the transmission. It’s nearly impossible to get those shimmed correctly
I've heard I'm actually going back and forth with some people on MA on what to do with my za50 magnum
It’s a ZA50. I know lots of people switch those out, but I’m not gonna be one of them 🤓
David Fix His Shit are you on Moped Army?
Yo Dav if fixing shit was a piece of food . Your resto could be dinner.
Meat and potatoes !!
I also thought you would label this series Dave fixes his (wife's) shit.
Ha! Alot of my time is spent fixing my wife's shit 😂
Your wife is cute.
Thanks again! Two awesome comments from you. I think I like you!
it is not Pooch or Pook. It's POOH (phonetically [PUX]). the last vowel (CH) is actually H as in "loCH ness"
