Hi David.....RU ok? Not a COVID victim....everyone in your family still healthy and happy? Hope everything goes well and hope to hear from you soon. Cheers. Joris
As an Italian youngster who loves Italian mopeds, I 100% approve your restoration/personalisation. Here in Italy Garelli mopeds are renowned for their indestructibility and longevity, and also cheap affordable power... two years ago I picked up a Garelli VIP 1 (no gears) from one of my neighbors, took it home, cleaned the carb, gave it some good fuel and she started right off like if those 25 years sitting in a shed didn't mean anything to her...by the way the vertical Garelli engine has always been a beast, it's derived from what, in the 70s, was the most winning 50cc motorcycle. The Garelli engine you have has the same exact crankcase as the manual gearbox ones...so, if one really wanted, he could turn a single drive engine into a 3 speed or a 4 speed without many problems. Anyway, fantastic job on yours, looking forward for other uploads on the channel!
Has anyone heard from David? The channel has been quiet for about a year. I have really enjoyed his videos. They are probably the most comprehensive moped restoration videos that I have seen anywhere. Add to to that his great sense of humor. I hope he is well and that some adversity hasn't befallen him that caused him to stop making videos. If you are out there on a tropical island somewhere enjoying the good life and just can't find the time to make more videos, I just want to extend a big thankyou for you work. ....Tim

Where I live, New Orleans. Mopeds are classified as "Motorized Bicycles" as long as they are under 50cc (wink wink) and have pedals, you do not need a license, plates/registration or insurance. If I was to have a kick start tomos and remove the pedals it would become a scooter and then need to be registered like a motorcycle. Because of this, mopeds are sought after and targets of theft. Hi Dave, hoping you can help me out. Last year I was able to get a hold of my original Garelli moped Gran Sport 1978. It was in somewhat decent shape. I tore it down and build it back up after cleaning, repairing and installing new parts. It looks great. The only problem I have is a wiring or lack of a good connection. I've used a meter and it seems everything is connected however, the only way I can get it to run is to put a jumper wire from the junction box (blue wire), to the engine block screw. it runs great but if I disconnect the wire it shuts off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Dave, Dave, Dave! Come in Dave! We need you! I need you! I found a Garelli VIP and used your video to build mine. Please come back and make more videos! At least let us know your still fixing your shit!
Hi Dave The videos are great and glad you were able to fix the problem. I have taken your advice earlier and purchased the parts for CDI on the same moped. All is painted and put back together and now then motor is almost done. Need to get to more seals and put it back together. I have a question I hope you can help with on the CDI. On the video, I can't see how you did the wiring. The three off the headlight and blue and white of the tail light. I saw you add two extensions of the lower coil, but after that i am at a loss. Any chance you could enlighten me as to which wires go each other. Would be extremely appreciative. Had my wife watch the beginning of the latest just because I enjoy them so much. Finaly fixed the Garelli! if you don't like the bottom end that much, you can also pop a bigger front sprocket or a smaller rear. It would also look better with a green or chrome front fender, instead of no fender ;)
I have thought about changing the ratios. Maybe that will come in v2. As for the fender... I dunno. Some bikes I like with the fender and some I like without. I don’t ever ride them in the rain or mud, so it’s purely a matter of aesthetics. For this one, I love that skinny tire up front, so I decided to show it off. I’ve still got the chrome fender so I might change my mind somewhere down the line.

Your cops have way too much time on their hands if they are checking for tags on mopeds. In CA under 50cc you don't need DMV reg.
I think they are so rare anymore that they attract a lot of attention.
