Dear Duncan After 27 years I found my hobby again. Since I suffer from depression, painting helps me through my therapy. Your tutorials help me a lot to get better results. Warm greetings from Germany
Depressive painter here too! Stay strong, friend. Painting helps me as well, even - maybe especially - when that annoying depressive non-interest kicks in. Happy to know we all share this wonderful hobby.
Painting is a great way to focus on literally nothing outside the mini, which is super helpful for dealing with the side effects of depression treatment. Stay strong!
Im not going to paint horrus. I'm not even going to get horrus. But I am going to watch an hour long video at 1 in the morning about Duncan painting horrus
I thought about buying all of the Primarch models but my buddy Charles told me that ForgeWorld is kinda crapping out models that have lots of air bubbles and that require a lot of sanding and use of green stuff to make them look halfway decent, and so I’m kinda unsure if I want to plop down so much money if they’re having quality control issues. Charles also told me that ForgeWorld just doesn’t give a damn if the quality is bad and that they won’t even make it right by sending better replacement parts. So I dunno if I want to put down $130-$160 per Primarch.
@@EatTheMarxists Your buddy is 100% not full of shit, FW's QA has been falling hard for the last decade. I can't even begin to count how many sprues I've had to return for replacements in the last two years alone, not even counting the replacements needing replacements.
@@ARussianHat that right there is why I’m kinda iffy on buying them, and Games Workshop straight-up refuses to replace/repair anything that is not bought from them for full price. They literally refuse to fix any issues or send missing pieces for a Combat Patrol because I bought it for $127 on Amazon instead of $150 from them. That’s absurd as absurd gets! It’s not the fault of Amazon or the seller if GW doesn’t put all of the right sprues in the packages! Thanks for your input, my friend. I may wind up taking the chance picking up one of the Primarchs from Forge World, but we’ll see if I do.
LUPERCAL! That primarch is just beautiful. Just incredibly executed. And that base! They say Nero fiddled while Rome burned, so Horus posed dramatically while the galaxy burned!
“Then let the galaxy burn!” I love the model so much and I love the fiery glow you added to the eagle, it reminds me of the trailer for Horus Heresy where he is looking onto the battlefield and the glow of fire lights up his face, really awesome job.
Ngl, I feel one of the most impressive bits about this video is that you did it without sub assemblies. When I did my Alpharius I did him literally piece by piece.
I really enjoy these longer vids where we get to see you flex your painting skills better. I do like the shorter vids where you show us things we can all learn to do with some practice but seeing you push skills for better results is fun to watch.
Thank you for finally providing some guidance on creating lava glow without an airbrush! I don't know why drybrushing hadn't ever occurred to me, but now I feel set to move forward with some figures I have been letting sit. Love your work. Thanks for the great content.
I would have never considered painting or even buying Horus if it wasnt for this guide. Thank you Duncan. Your videos have always inspired me to push myself with my painting. Cheers.
recently started out couple months ago, 3d printing/painting. thought I'd seen most content creators over last couple month over 1000's hours of videos but only just found yours. I'm blown away by how good you are. I love how you made your videos too, what and why your doing each step as well as colours used etc. Prob going to be busy watching all your videos now. Keep it up.
I can't believe how you made me believe that I can paint that cloak, it's done so well but yet simple enough that I actually get what I'm supposed to do and believe that I'm able to replicate it. This whole guide game out like a gift when I actually started planning on getting Horus for my SoH army next month. I'm also gonna use this guide when I can on my Justaerin and on the Praetor in Cataphractii Terminator armor aswell on as using your guide for Horus's head on the Sons of Horus who aren't wearing helmets I can't say how much I love this guide! I hope you make one for a Sons of Horus legionares aswell.
Man, that is amazing. I’m brand-spanking-newb to Warhammer 40K; I bought the Command Edition and am turning the Space Marines that came with it into Black Templars. I also bought the Black Templar Army Box on eBay, brand new, never even opened for only $100! I also bought Chaplain Grimaldus yesterday and I’m going to buy High Marshal Helbrecht before January is over. I’ve put together the push-fit Space Marines and Necrons from the Command Set, but so far that’s all that I’ve done. I’m both excited and terrified to put the others together, prime them all, and start painting them because I know that I’m not going to start out at such a high level as you and , while most people are perfectly fine with starting out doing their best and becoming better over the years as they paint more, I expect myself to be as good as a professional at the very start. It’s gonna be difficult for me, but videos from guys like you and Squidmar are teaching me a lot of things that I didn’t know and are helping me build the confidence to start painting the minis. As a complete beginner your videos are absolutely wonderful and I truly appreciate how detailed you are in your tutorials. Thanks for being so awesome, and don’t ever stop.
You guys are so lucky to have such amazing free tutorials available, when I was a kid in the 90s I had to figure this stuff out by myself or buy an expensive (but amazing) magazine called White Dwarf, lol.(I know boober moment, 40 approaches next year.)
Always so great to model or paint along with your vids - especially when it's a nice long one like this. And, by coincidence, I had a bunch of black armor to do today, so I got to try to emulate what you were doing.
AWESOME AWESOME paint job. Thank you for showing us how its done! I appreciate the glazing tutorial . It's something I've been hesitant to try for fear of ruining a paint job.
This could not have came at a better time! I have had old black sheep of the Emperors family, aka old Horus built, primed in chaos black and ready to attack that nightmare that is his trim, in my draw for the last 2 years and decided last night to finally finish this glorious piece from Forge World! I must say the tip on running a wash over the bronze trim was a masterstroke, as made touching him back up with the black even easier then I imagined it was going to be. Managed to get it done in one sitting, about to crack the rest now I shall let you know how I get on King 2 ThinCoats 👊
Even though I ain't gonna paint Horus H. Luprecal, at least I enjoyed watching this hour long video of him being painted, even managed to pick up a thing or two that'll come in handy when I eventually paint up my first mini's!
The face on horus looks like it has been taken off another model lmao. He doesn'y look very evil does he lol. Spectacular painting job though, I don't even collect atm, I just love seeing how people paint things.
I am currently working on the Norsca bb team and wasn’t sure if starting with the deep brown for the flesh tone was the right way to go, but was glad to see this video justified my decision… they are turning out great btw.
Wow amazing work love the base !! Just started on some knight models the Harry Potter range for a change from warhammer but I want to buy this model now 😅

Posting it here for free is such a genuine move. Big thanks, love the work
I was there, the day Duncan painted the Warmaster.
Horus fell to Chaos to fix the one thing that he hated more than anything else. His Male Pattern Baldness.
lol
As someone with a receding hairline I understand his rage.
i prefer the aesthetic of Mars Alpha Pattern Baldness
Apply a gloss varnish to his head to make that chrome dome REAL shiny
@@jacobjohnston3983 Good idea, it'll blind your opponent when they role dice against him.
He talks for 80 minutes without making any mistakes or even saying "eh". Amazing.
Whilst your comment is nice.. Editing exists y’know.

That primarch is just beautiful. Just incredibly executed. And that base! They say Nero fiddled while Rome burned, so Horus posed dramatically while the galaxy burned!
Every time the audiobook’s narrator says “Lupercal” I hear “Poop-a-Cow” and it makes me chuckle.

I like watching Duncan as he paints this is great man Duncan of the space Marine don't know which one but his favorite.
by far one of the best warhammer painting tutorials you have done so far.
Wow, thanks! We had a lot of fun making it.

i enjoy your calm voice. Reminds me of watching Bob Ross. Keep up the great work.
The depth you can add to a model is amazing - and the amount of knowledge we get from an hour long video is glorious 👍
Despite not playing Horus Heresy, this video is still a great source of inspiration. Incredible job!
Thank you. The techniques shown can be used on a wide variety of miniatures too 😊
I remember painting Horus 8 years ago, it’s still my favourite model I’ve ever painted, absolutely stunning detail and captures him so well.
Stunning work Duncan !! ❤️🔥❤️❤️🔥
You have the gentle touch of a neurosurgeon, all the little details look absolutely beautiful
It's a great sculpt, oh and thank you for the kind words too.

Beautiful work! Horus is one of those "some day..." projects for me, so I might come back to this one day
HERESY has NEVER looked so GOOD!!
YES DUNCAN, JOIN THE EIGHTFOLD PATH!!!

This model of Horus is menacing. Great paintwork as always.
Impressive tutorial! Out of all the long form painting tutorials you've done, going as far back as your time with GW, this is one of your best!
Wow, thank you. Rog and I had a blast making this one.
