There's nothing racist about "Song of the South". It's set after the Civil War, so Uncle Remus and his so-called fellow "slaves" are really sharecroppers. Also, Johnny (Bobby Driscoll's character) is helped by Uncle Remus and his stories, and doesn't make a big deal about skin color. Also, I do get the impression, from this and other Watch Mojo videos, that they have it in for "Song of the South".

  • @oldkitten8598

The abusive relationship that Sarah Hyland was in wasn't Disney's fault. Sure, they met on the set of a Disney film, but the studio didn't push them into dating. It's good that she finally got out of it, but Disney can't be blamed for that happening.
You, also, forgot about how song that Timon sings in Lion King -- "in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight" -- was stolen from a South African man. A lawyer found out about the injustice and fought tooth and nail to get the rights of the song to the man's family and ensure that the money made from the song would go back to them. Even though they won the court case, the family has yet to see any of that money.
Also, the store owner in Frozen wasn't necessarily gay. All he said was "a" family was using the sauna, he didn't say it was "his" family.

Well you can just omit a good portion of the number 6 slot. Considering that the Kimba the White Lion comparisons are just ludicrous considering that Adam from the TH-cam channel YMS already made a several hour long video going over every single evidence piece and ultimately proving that no none of The Lion King was plagiarizing Kimba the White lion. Not to mention that the people who made Atlantis the Lost Empire clearly stated that all of the similarities to The Studio Ghibli films we're all inspired by it.

Lately I’ve been thinking about Miley’s Bangerz Phase and I have realized that it’s not nearly as bad as a lot of thought back then. Miley was just being herself and she wanted to break free and not be known as only Hannah Montana.
However, the only problem with Bangerz was how it appropriated black culture. Miley didn’t do blackface or use the N word, but she did a lot of codeswitching and used a lot of AAVE and also talked and acted in stereotypical ways that I think white people might perceive black people to talk and act like.
I will always remember Hannah Montana but I have no issue with Miley just doing what she wants if it doesn’t hurt other people or
    make them uncomfortable.

    Dishonorable Mention:
    *Cancelling The Owl House
-Around summer of 2021, the 2nd season of The Owl House started to air, at first things were looking pretty solid, with a 3rd season announced. But then, around the time the 3rd episode of Season 2 aired, a shocking announcement was made. Disney had cut the 3rd Season short, relegating it to only 3 44 min long specials instead of the usual full-length season. Even worse, it was made clear that THIS would be the final season and was "too late to stop." But this leaves many points throughout the series potentially unresolved. It sparked an uproar, spawning petitions to try to save the show (heck, even I signed the petition), but it seemed to go nowhere.
[Oh my god it's Megaman Legends 3 being cancelled all over again!]
Honestly, what with all the scandals on the list and now this, It's like Disney is being run by South Park's version of Mickey Mouse. Just think about it, the logic adds up. The treatment of its stars, properties and employees, the controversies, the behind the scenes drama, everything seems to check out.
Despite the success of some Disney Channel Shows, It's still very sad when you think about what could've been. Mistreating your employees is one thing, but when you mistreat your employees, your fans, your consumers, your properties, and YOUR ENTIRE LEGACY within such a short span of time, it's gonna be near-impossible to earn back the trust of your consumers after all that. Let's just hope that their other successes don't go to their heads, or we could end up with something like this again.

How about Little Mermaid live-action reboot there's so much controversy about it a young actress who's a Person of Color to play Ariel as the original animated movie is a normal white girl this is overlooked and should get honorable mention.

Forcing gay or African-American characters into the stories is not going to make up for all of the blatant racism and prejudice that has already stained you record. It's a good try. But that's all that it is,, a try.

Maybe it's because I'm a foreigner, but I've watched "Song of the South" several times as a child and I only remember it as being a rather nice film, with great acting, wonderful animated segments and lovely songs. Is it controversial because it apparently depicted slave life as being a jolly one? Perhaps, but that wasn't the point of the film. If you were expecting a Disney "12 years a slave", you would be wrong. The whole point of the film wasn't to tell a historical story about a dark period of American history, but to tell the adventures of Brer Rabbit. Full stop. It's a bit sad because Walt truly loved the Uncle Remus stories and he really had his heart set into making a film that could be enjoyed by all families. It's a shame that people have totally missed the point with the passing of time of why this film ever existed in the first place. Let us at least celebrate the positive things that came out of "Song of the South": it spawned a Disney classic song, it was the basis for one of Disneyland's best rides and (thanks to Walt's insistence) it earned the wonderful James Baskett an honorary Oscar (one of the first African American actors to ever receive one). Like with the Italian film "la vita è bella", it told a heartwarming story with a dark backdrop. Associating this film with ultimate racism is an exaggeration and completely blowing it out of proportion, for we are not talking about "the birth of a nation", a film which does deserve all the hate and controversy.

My honorable mention will be Disney animators strike at 1941. During the making of Dumbo, the system for making a movie and working in the studio went very badly, such as the big names/credited employees does whatever he/she wants and getting a big payday, while the lowers/uncredited employees are forced to follow the rules and getting a minimal of pay, which the job system was so bad that some of them quit the company for unionizing by joining the union group "Screen Cartoonist's Guild" (or "SCG" for short), one of them is a familiar animator Art Babbitt noticed the low employees are poorly treated from the system by joining SCG, not only that, he argued at Walt Disney that the working condition was disorganized that has to be changed or the employees went unionizing, but Walt Disney didn't believed the problem and refused to hear about the union, thus ended up into a strike from animators about the working condition and even going to other companies like Warner Bros and others. Of course, Disney tried to recover the strike by signing up the union, but the damage was already done that he lost half of his employees and had a mental pain from the strike, which explains that, despite worked as a producer of animated films, he was focused on other projects like live-action films, making miniature trains (because of his interest of small trains) and building his theme park.

A time when stubborn Southern States sabotaged the late Abraham Lincoln’s “Great Reconstruction” project for the Union soldiers acts of Arson induced terror in order to set up their backwards ass “Jim Crow” laws and systems of segregation.
Without the big federal oversight of reconstruction efforts that Lincoln intended, these white supremacist cowards were able to set up the tyrannical systems of segregation that those brave, patriots, protesters and activists in the 1960’s like Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Future Senator John Lewis, stanch Black Liberation advocate Malcolm X, fought so hard to dismantle and bury!
Your idealized version of the great and bountiful South that was always kind to their Black “servants” and was only interested in “Freedom from Yankee Oppression” as seen in this film, The Uncle Remus stories, and Gone With The Wind, are an elaborate *LIE* concocted by the losers of the war to make it seem like they never concerned about their so called “right” to keep slaves. Our Civil War was always about America’s “shameful whore” known as slavery!

I don't get the issue with Merida being changed. They just changed the style and made her hair even curlier, or am I missing something? They did this with EVERY princess. I mean, I liked their original designs, but whatever. Nothing to cry about.

    • @saphari22
      @saphari22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I believe the backlash was because Merida had a natural looking body type and when they updated the Disney Princess Line her proportions were much more slimmer, particularly in the waistline
