    Bahaha! Not one OBVIOUS thing about this stuff. I'm over here sewing Christmas pillow cases by hand to match the size of our existing sofa pillows. I haven't sewn so much as a button in years, but my daughter has been asking for these since literally last year, and in such a freaking precious undemanding way. (I'm not being sarcastic, she has been genuinely sweet about it but really wants them!) So I bought some safety pins + zippers + needles + fabric, took our existing pillows out of their cases, outlined them over the fabric to try to figure out the size. And here we go! Giddy up!
    We got the first of four sides sewn as a team (she's super proud of the effort we made together so far!), and I searched online "how to make a pillow case with a zipper for the sofa". Here we are.
    While I wish it were all obvious (lol!), I searched for a video because none of this is even a lick of obvious. Glad you made the video, though! *crossing my fingers it works*

    Excellent tutorial! If you cut your fabric the exact same size as the pillow form taking a 1/2” seam allowance it will fit perfectly.

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  ปีที่แล้ว

      It might actually be a bit big still. But it also kinda depends upon the pillow form. When I buy 20x20 feather pillow from IKEA, I cut my fabric 19x19. And they fit perfect. Try it and see… it would be very easy to make it smaller if needed by sewing inside your first seam.

    I have watched this video so many times!!! Thank you for making it! I am recovering outdoor cushions. I am doing a combination of your videos… for the back cushion I am putting a zipper and Turkish corners. I am not doing the panel zipper so this has been helpful. I am having a heck of a time determining how big to make the Turkish corners. Three inches is way too big as the cushions look fat and short. My back cushions are 23”x26”. I will try 1” Turkish corners but not sure I will be able to fold fabric so small. Where did you get that pumpkin panel? Beautiful!

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes, 1” Turkish corners can be fussy. At that point I’d probably just do a knife edge pillow, like the video. I painted the pumpkin panel myself. I used to be a mural painter for a living before learning to sew from my mom.

    • @MimzyandCompany

      No, it won’t be too small. When I use the Ikea feather pillow that is 20”x 20”, I cut my fabric 18”x18” and sew a 1/2” seam and it’s a perfect fit. But you can easily make your pillow smaller if it comes out too loose by just another seam inside the first seam.

    Another great video! So glad I found your channel! I'm still trying to get the whole pillow thing down and wanted to ask, are you using a special kind of zipper foot? Mine seems much wider than yours and I don't feel like I get close enough with mine and a lot of the zipper tape remains exposed. Also, I've seen another method where you baste the fabric together first and then sew the zipper in...is it just a personal preference or does one make a more "finished" look? Thanks so much!! :)

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Victoria. I know the type of zipper foot you have and it is wider. There should be a way to get closer with it, you may have to partially put the zipper under the foot or something. But i know you can get a zipper foot like mine for your machine. There are many ways to make pillows, I dont like to baste because I like to do things as quickly as possible. But you may want to try that method to start. then when you get the hang of pillow making you can take the shortcuts.

      is it definitely an invisible zipper and did you iron it flat before sewing it in? The ironing it flat is the most important part.

      @@MimzyandCompany thank you ! I didn’t iron the zipper flat but I will do that going forward. ❤️

      I came here to say this. I’m a bit new and like these videos and everything is NOT obvious to me.

    How to resolve corners of exposed zipper at 3:50.

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You start sewing about 1/2” inside(before the end of the zipper), that way when you turn the pillow right side out the ends are enclosed in the seam.

    Okay so she said obviously a couple times, but is that really something to complain about ? Some people are just miserable.

    OBVIOUSLY!! I lost count of how many times you said obviously. It’s a tutorial. If it was all so obvious then we wouldn’t need a tutorial

      I know!!! Like I said before, it’s cringy! But I’m not gonna delete it until I make a new video to replace it.

      I have not seen such a rude reply to a sewing tutorial before. Did the video help you? Start there. Obviously. Happy holidays, y'all.

      Such a rude reply! She made a free video (that by the way, has helped me make multiple pillows so thank you!!!!) that all of us get to benefit from. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

    You're doing a tutorial - stop saying obviously. This is a great tutorial, but you sound so condescending.

      i definitely didn't mean to sound condescending! But I was very new to making videos at this point, and was still very nervous in front of the camera. Plus, i didnt know how to edit yet, so i couldn't edit it out. I know it's very cringy. I plan to make a new pillow video soon.
