Especially given that Reiji has a lot mot experience with the particles system in general and overall is a much more versatile fighter who is able to use weapons.

Now that I think about it, the Build Burning DOES have a very "Reiji" feel to it(the red matches Reiji's hair and outfit, and the "crystal" parts are meant to invoke the Arista crystal)

We know that the Build Burning is a Sei Iori original, it's not a custom based on any preexisting kits. At that point, making a set of Dom-looking armor parts to clasp over the thing sounds like the easy part, tbh.

The thing is probably registered as one complete unit, there was a proper, physical model underneath after all (notice that the "outer shell" gundam is completely gone now that the core body has been revealed). It's a one time party trick, and as so many of the characters within this version of the gundam universe like to say, "Gunpla is freedom."
