Great video. Very informative. It helped me fix my step-daughter's ice maker. Got a tip from another video. The ice build-up is due to the ice maker living in the refrigerator section, which has much warmer and moister air. Once you disassemble the ice maker, seal all the seams and holes with Aluminum Foil Tape. Found in the HVAC section of the hardware store. You need to seal out the warmer, more humid air from getting into the ice make box. The moist air will condense on the coils, and motor, in the back, and cause it to stop working. Put the tape on the inside of the ice box. Put the tape over the water line hole at the top of the box. But poke a hole thru it for the water line. the original opening is too big. Put the tape around the back of the box. Besides the aluminum foil tape, I used white silicone caulk for the fine seams on the outside of the ice box too. We shall see how long it lasts!!

Christmas day found ice maker jamed cleared only to find it wasn't making ice. So I listened to your video. The water inlet on top was frozen. Used the hair dryer and then reassembled. This morning I had ice but not much. I then filled cup with water and found it was taking forever. I knew water was restricted check a few thing and found water valve no completely open pressure seems a lot better. Hoping this was the issue. Wife informed me than it always slow that why she never used the water dispenser. I guess I'll see. Thank for the video it was such a big help.

This was an excellent video. I was able to take apart and put back together my freezer. It was a little difficult to get some screws and holes to line up exactly right though. WARNING: If you cannot fix it yourself, put it back together before calling a repairman to fix it. They will not touch it if it is taken apart. I learned this the hard way.

Dude thanks so much for the vid we have the same fridge ice maker quit about a year ago and just went without it. The fridge iced up stared warming up last night so we moved everything to the garage fridge and deep freezer so we could shut it down and do a complete thaw. Sitting here the morning after we cleaned and started it back up this I came across your vid. Spot on with instructions and yep same problem had a bunch of ice build up in the back and evaporate drain was the root cause of my original problem it broke off completely iced over the cooling port directly below the ice maker.

Moved into a new house with this same fridge, made ice for first week then stopped. It's 2020, you'd think these fridge companies would have solved this issue by now. I had an ice maker fridge in prior house, different brand, and it would also stop making ice. Silly!!

thank you for the nice helpful video. My ice maker up top was froze up, as was the drain on it. I also found a pile of ice the size of a softball wrapped around on a water tube in the bottom of the freezer (you could see it from the fridge, in the back left corner there is a vent hole that goes into the back of the freezer). I don't know which was responsible for not making ice, but either way there is ice this morning! :)

It’s messy but hot water in a spray bottle will de-ice the evaporator coil and any build up very quickly. I’ve been in commercial HVACR since 1994 and this is how we do it. It won’t hurt four motors or fan if you let them dry a little before you reassemble. Trust me you won’t believe how fast the ice melts away. Also the black round disk clamped to the large copper line (suction line) is the defrost termination stat. It closes around 25* and opens around 50* (I could be off on the those temps but it’s in the ball park. Unless that stat is below the closing temp the defrost heating element will not come on. Even if you force it into defrost. It’s there to ensure the heater shuts off in case the timer fails and sticks closed causing the element to heat continually and catch fire. Great video I don’t work on residential alliances and this made the job so much quicker and easier for me! You are awesome!!

    • @GReviewz
      @GReviewz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Joseph Khattab thanks for watching... interesting... I am glad it worked for you. You must not of had ice buildup then because changing a filter wouldn’t have made the ice go away...but a clogged filter would stop the water from getting to the ice maker..

@@GReviewz honestly if I had your email I would email you the whole story buuuut long story short....ice maker stopped making ice for two days, called a repairman and it was going to cost 125 dollars just for them to come up. Thinking I would rather fix it myself especially if it's only an inlet valve (did that on the dishwasher). Found your video (again fucking amazing!!!) Took it all apart, not all that much ice so I figured it's the valve. Put it back together (after a small bit of ice did melt) then all of a sudden an hour later i hear ice drop! Ice maker is fixed and it only cost me the 15 dollars for the tool I needed ha.

We are a factory authorized service center for Frigidaire. I commend you for trying to help people repair their fridge. You, however, made a common mistake by repairing the symptom and not the problem. As you stated toward the end "Obviously something else is going on here"
This is a common problem that Frigidaire knows about and has developed 2 possible repair kits to fix. A consumer may need one or both depending on what is seen at diagnosis. In rare cases the box may even need to be replaced. Both kit may possibly be supplied to the consumer by Frigidaire depending on model/serial and when unit was bought but must be installed by factory authorized service for warranty purposes.
This is a good tear down video but in most cases you will be doing the same procedure in a few weeks to remove the ice again. I can provide a few hint to help here a little if someone still insist on doing a partial repair.
    1) UNPLUG the unit from the wall (this is not only needed for electrical protection but also to insure the ice maker works properly after work is completed.
    2) Check the back of the unit for any condensation or water stains on the back of the box from the area behind the icemaker to all the way down the back.
    3) The blue tape is there by the factory please replace it.
    4) DO NOT try to put the unit in defrost after disassembly, it will not do so because you have unplugged the wires. (Check the video)
    5) After thawing out the unit it may take 2 days to produce a bucket of ice, this per the factory tec line.
    6) After it freezes up again call factory service. It is not just the labor that is included in the price. We also have access to factory tecs incase we see something that is not right, are trained in proper proceeds for the repair and are kept up to date in all the latest service pointers on your unit. Many other thing go into the price other than what work we perform.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer....go for it but remember we are ready to assist you if you cant.

I took mine apart and there was zero ice build up, but it is still not making ice. The ice tray mechanism was replace a couple of years ago. No water is flowing to the ice tray. However, water is going through the filter and being released through the door. My water line to the fridge is open and flowing. Water is flowing through the filter to the door. Frigidaire has a fix for this problem and it is an air handler kit as they call it.
I have put in several of these kits and they are rather involved as it is nearly a redesign of the unit seals and fan housing as well as the evaporator cover.
The repair takes about an hour and I've seen good results with no callbacks.

Hey guys - just wanted to share a fix you might want to try. I had a repair guy finally look at my ice maker (2018 fridge). Turns out there was a design problem (he spoke to someone from Electrolux). Air was seeping into the hole where the waterline goes. If you live someplace that has high humidity it could cause the line to freeze. The fix was to insulate the line in the fridge and also seal the hole. Used to freeze up after 2 days and stop making ice. Has been running great for 2.5 weeks now and makes ice much much faster. Good luck!

Great video, but there is a much simplier solution to try first. This is my second time that it has happened after leaving home for an extending time (water is turned off and ice maker is turned off). Try the hairdryer technique first! Turn the power off, take out the ice container, turn the hair dryer on high for about a minute and aim towards the back of ice maker that you were taking apart. Close the refrigerator door, wait 5 minutes, and do process at least two more times. Put the the drawer back in, turn on power to fridge. About 6-8 hours later the ice will start dropping down.

Hi. You’re video is excellent (except the music. Lol. Volume could be lower or none at all) Anyway, do you think that if I turn off the fridge & put it in defrost mods for several hours, the ice build up will melt on its own without having to take the whole ice maker apart?

Thank you for watching. I tried the defrost twice before throwing in the towel and digging into the ice maker itself. I do t know if you watched the whole video or not but the metal defrost coil did not go far enough down to were the ice was built up in my case. It may work for you so I’d give the defrost a try before taking apart the whole ice maker.

Thanks so much for your swift reply back! We (meaning my hubby, lol) will try and make a go of taking it apart one step at a time as you demonstrated. We will let you know how it turns out! Thank you again for your great video and reply back!

I appreciate you showing us how to disassemble and assemble the ice maker. But doesn't unplugging and plugging in after 24 hours do the same trick of melting the ice sludge? I did and that seemed to resolve the issue of little to no ice production before and after filter replacement.

Thanks for watching. I mean the whole point of what I did was to remove all the frozen water. So what you did was probably just fine. I just don’t have the time to remove all my food and defrost the fridge for 24 hrs or more.

I don’t take the ice maker apart. I take out the drawer and heat up area with a hair dryer - focusing on the back area and just below the ice maker box. It takes some time - about 30 minutes - but hasn’t failed me yet. Seem to have to do it once a year. Ice will be made a few hours later. This eliminates the chance of busting something.

Thank you for watching. 9/10 times my repair will work. If it doesn’t work I would suggest a refrigerator repair man..

Great video on this repair. How often do these ice makers ice up where this needs to be done?

Thanks for watching. I believe you commented on two of my videos with generally the same question. It varies wildly. Some people have to do this process once a week some people have to do it once a year… depends on we’re you live in the country and manufacturing date. Over the years Frigidaire has tried to make improvements…

Thanks for the info ! So out of the blue my fridgeidare gallery ice maker's motor came on really loud, I opened the ice maker drawer and seen it was way to full so I emptied it. I powered off the fridge from options and turned it back on but the motor is still running. I don't have an option that I'm even seeing to power off just the ice maker. I don't want to power off the entire fridge so I'm hoping I can fix this ASAP --- It say's that I first need to do a " hard reset "on my ice maker. I can't seem to find a video on this specifically, if you have any info you could pass on it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

I am sorry for the issues you have been having. Click the options menu. Top item should be “quick freeze” turn that off. Next is ice maker. Turn it off and then on again. It sounds though like the sensor that detects the ice level may be broken. I would follow the steps in the video and make sure all the electrical connectors are connected properly and not loose or frayed.

I have had this issue with the exact same ice maker. It hasn’t worked for years and the repair guy said it would be around $200 to look at it. After your video, I now feel like I can address this in an afternoon. Thanks! Side question, have you had to go back and thaw it out again?

Thanks for watching. It really is not too hard to do. As long as you follow my video you will get this thing fixed as long as the ice is your issue. I’ve own mine almost 4 years and I’ve had to do this process 2 times in all.
