Hey Ben I currently have this funky thing happening on my GE fridge it’s Model no. GSS25QGTA, the rubber insulators all along the edge of the door are piping hot for some reason
I'm having the rust issue, going to attempt this repair shortly. However, my issue isn't the ice maker as it's not hooked up to water. My fridge keeps warming up on hot days and ice forms over the rust at the back. Will just cutting out the soggy foam and replacing solve this issue?
Couple of comments and compliments Ben (I'm from Montreal). First off, all TH-camrs should learn from you (Master Class), this is how you make a video, very detailed, stopping at times to show things, or adding red arrows to highlight things. The key for this repair is definitely that newly designed ice box with new improved gasket. Had called a repair guy and he was saying sell the fridge and get a new one, ice maker and insulation was done. Installed the new ice box last night and seems to be making ice now (will see for how long). Figured this effort on your part was worth at least a couple beers, so sent you a small donation to cover those beers. Thank you sir, am following your channel for more repair advise, great channel !!
Just want to say it's tough to realize how well made this video is until you watch other videos on the same content. I will be buying the replacement parts from your site. Thanks.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Ben, please advise if you provide the equivalent parts for FGSC2335TFB. The fridge is a tenant's and frozen solid. Kinda wanted to come in locked and loaded with parts rather than defrost her whole fridge and come another day with the parts.
Ive been in aircraft avionics repair and air traffic ground equipment repair for 27 years now. 75% of that electronics. I could not make a video this detailed in my job. Bravo Dude!
I have an Electrolux and it has been super problematic. I think it's time for a new refrigerator. Are you happy with your new refrigerator? What model did you go with?
Lol our frig is maybe 4 years old and it has a crack on the plastic of the freezer it is soo noisy I am going back to the 2 door we have our other frig for 15 years any recommendations
I might be right there with you. LOL We bought a house with a 2-year-old Frigidaire model similar to the one shown here. The freezer works sporadically and the Ice Maker continues to freeze up every other week. I’m glad I found this video. I will be purchasing a repair kit and trying to fix it…but we may have to replace this machine. It has hardly any interior volume for storage, is incredibly noisy, and consistently has issues.
If you're having trouble with the water inlet freezing over pull the water inlet tube as he shows towards the end of the video and check it for hard water scaling inside the tube. I had a persistent issue with the inlet freezing over on this style ice maker and tried all the usual suspects, nothing worked long term. For some reason a small amount of water left in the inlet during the ice making cycle was freezing then building on itself until it completely blocked the tube resulting in no ice. After thawing the inlet and trying numerous other fixes over several months I finally found a single reference to hard water scale causing this deep in the bowels of the internet. I pulled the tube and sure enough there was some scale visible inside it. I descaled it with some white vinegar for a few minutes, re-installed it and haven't had a problem since. Who would have thought that a little bit of mineral deposits would cause that. You could of course replace it with a new tube as well but this cost me nothing and was done in about 10 minutes.
Thanks Ben! I bought the kit you suggested, watched your video and got it fixed. It's only been a few days, but I'm hoping that with the new tightly sealed setup, it will last! BTW, Electrolux had a repair guy come out and said it could not be fixed. He was wrong! I'm disgusted that I paid $99 for a guy to come out and not even open the door to the refrigerator to tell me that. Again, thanks for your video. Excellent!
Bravo Ben!!! I have been battling this issue since Janurary of this year this is super informative I replaced the water filter and also replaced the water valve ice maker worked for a couple of days but started acting up again. I’m gonna tackle this more in depth tomorrow “Update in case anyone cares” This 100% fixed my issue!! :)
@@gugbogey So sorry for the late reply I’m just now seeing this. Yes i followed the instructions per the video and ordered the kit Ben recommended. I have not had anymore issues with the ice maker tube freezing up. My guess is that insulation add-on including the foil wrapped ice maker water tube is what fixed the issue.
This video helped. I'm pretty confident with DIY repairs, and luckily for me it was fixed with defrosting. Now the issues I encountered were mostly uncertainty related. I was unsure whether holding both the up/down arrows on the freezer temp was actually forcing a defrost. I didn't see `d F`, it just went off entirely. The fridge lights too. I let it go for about an hour or so, it started making the temperature beeps after a few minutes, so when I let it alarm for about an hour, then when I muted the alarm, the freezer turned back on though I didn't notice at the time. Waited a few more hours and still no ice. Round 2: Took it a bit further this time. I took the front casing and the wiring harness off and unplugged the two molex plugs, left that for about 4 hours, then reassembled it. I didn't want to leave the freezer off for long because our fridge is full of food so I muted the alarm again, this time after about 2 hours. I had noticed some ice at the back of the ice tray assembly, so carefully removed it. There was also some ice between the top of the icemaker and the fridge ceiling... tiny gap of like maybe 1/4" that I didn't attempt removing. In the morning, I had like 5 icecubes in the tray so that was a win. But was concerned that might not be enough ice. But a few hours later, the thing is half full and the cubes are properly sized. Looks like it did the trick, for now. Was nearly ready to order the part. I specifically have a FPBC2278UF. I read the manual and it says it has an automatic defrost cycle that runs periodically so I don't know whether I set up a forced defrost properly or not. Maybe it's not possible with this fridge. In any case, thanks for your detailed video. I was prepared to go all the way!
Very professional and easily understandable job, wish you lived in my neighbourhood, have the same problem! Lost all my dexterity couple of yrs. ago but great watching a pro. anyway!!
just took my Frigidaire apart as it stopped. It wasn't iced up, but the water inlet was froze. I was pleasantly surprised that mine has all the "new goodies" that this kit came with. I'm thinking after I defrost the inlet hose, I'll seal that box to the fridge walls/ceiling.
I struggled with the water outlet freezing up every week. If I set the ice cube size to maximum, it would freeze up only about once a month. I dealt with that for about 18 months before I finally thought of an idea. I got a piece of electrical wire, the stuff used inside the walls of your house, 12 gauge solid copper and stripped it down to a single wire about 12 inches long. I fed that wire through the water outlet until it was a little bit recessed in the hole. In theory, this copper will absorb heat from the outside case and deliver that heat to the water outlet, preventing it from freezing. And three years later, I still haven't had a frozen outlet! It looks like they took my idea for the new water tubing you installed... it was wrapped in aluminum foil (unless you added that) so it too will absorb heat from the environment and keep the outlet perhaps above freezing.
Thank-you, Ben, for a great video and making the parts available. The silicon sealant is a great idea as I am very suspicious that warm air can enter the system through the water line port.
I just replaced everything seen in this video. My only issue was at the end trying to put the box back in, I couldn’t for the life of me get it as flush as it was before. We’ll see soon if that is an issue or not. If this replacement doesn’t work, I’m wondering if it’s the defrost sensor not working, since it’s been icing up very quickly recently. Very thorough video, thanks!!
if this works for a couple days then freezes again, test the heating element for ohms, if OL then the heating element is bad and needs replacement. And check the temp sensor for continuity, at freezing and at room temp, it is a simple close/open switch.
Ben, very informative and your instruction is spot on easy to understand. I have one question; can I remove the ice maker all together without replacing it? I don't need it and didn't want it. Thanks
A friend was told by the Frigidaire repair guy her ice maker couldn't be fixed. Seems like an excuse because this is a heavy multiple step for a normal person but repair guy should be capable like you. Ben. Then another friend had deeper complex issues were it ended damaging her floors. Then again I'm not sure if she ever paid attention to notice any real issues till everything really shut down. I always appreciate your videos from refrigerator to washing machine/ dryer repairs and reviews you have helped me multiple times. 😊👍
Just ordered the kit from your page. I figure it was the least I could do for you putting this video out. I was attempting a DIY fix that would not have worked now knowing that the foam is water-logged. Peeled the metal back and sure enough, soaked. One thing to mention while cutting the metal -- the capillary high-pressure side of that coil takes off towards the left of the fridge. If you get too far over to the left, the line is only about 1/8" away from the metal. I have no idea how I missed it but I did. I would recommend starting on the far right and only working left as far as you need to. I would probably use tin snips instead of a rotary tool for doing this.
Thank you for this video. We bought a house with a 2-year-old Frigidaire model similar to the one shown here. The freezer works sporadically and the Ice Maker continues to freeze up every other week. Great video, where is the sensor located that tells the machine to put water in the tray? I ran a diagnostic and everything works when ran but the fridge does not know when to make ice.
i was not able to put the ice maker box in place, (between 24:00 of this video and 24:15), even hamming it doesn't help move the box back enough for me to screw it in.
I don't even use my ice maker, and I see ice buildup below where the drain tube should be. Is there anyway to disable this ice maker completely? Can I disassemble all these parts so I can reclaim all that space?
Love the video. Nothing but trouble with Frigidaire. Redid the kitchen with all new Frigidaire appliances, now I'm replacing a piece at a time with KitchenAid appliances seem to be more reliable and they do a better job. I've been steering friends and family away from Frigidaire junk. It hasn't been hard when they hear my experience.
I retired this year as an appliance technician and I can recommend Bosch. More expensive at first, but in the long run is wohrt it. Also, LG is good, but not as the previous brandname.
Great video, I've been dealing with this video since 2013. Will the air handler housing work in an Electrolux EW28BS85KS3? The icebox and parts in your video look very similar.
Hi Ben , thanks for good honest straight forward videos ! I have a question about a Maytag model LAT7400ABL washer serial number A2300055 FD . Everything works perfectly ,except , it only addjatates in slow motion or gentle mode . Were should I start looking ? Thank you!
Thankyou for the video! I have a question for you. My power recently went out while I was away for a weekend and I came home to a warm fridge/freezer. I replaced the faulty GFCI that caused the issue but now my ice maker won't work. I ran the diagnostics and I know the tray will fill with water and flip over to transfer the cubes to the bin. Do you have any ideas why my machine won't work?
I have reset mine and sometimes it works but most times it doesn't and when it does it only works for a few days. When it does work it makes ice super fast and works great. I have a French door with freezer on the side. It is completely different then this one. The fridge is only 3 months old, it's not packed full as I have a freezer and refrigerator in the basement we mostly use for things that won't be used within the week. It is under warranty and I also have a 5 year extended warranty and it is possible it's defective but if it's something simple I'd like to fix it myself but I can't find any info. I just have a switch on the bottom of it.
I had an issue with my Ice maker in a Electrolux EW28BS71ISA made in 06/11. I was able to finally get the drawer out and a piece of plastic that is 3" long and at both ends is 3/4" wide and 1/2" long and int he middle portion is 1-1/4" wide 1-3/4 " In the immediate middle it has 2 tabs that drop out about 1/8" with 2 round pieces that extend out 1/8" that are connected to something. In the middle is a foam piece that has a slot on each side that is 3/4" long . There is also a wire in the Ice maker portion that is loose and is about 8" - 10" long with a sensor on it I have no Idea where it goes and have not seen it in any of the videos on You Tube. Doe you know where it is supposed to go?
any chance you have an air handler kit for FGHB2866PFGA? The motor foze. I dried it with a hair dryer and it work, but soon as temp went below freezing temps, it, happended again. also had ice on the outside of the housing near the back of the fridge. thx
Good job as usual It seems everything regarding air flow including the condenser is poorly designed This model seems to accumulate a lot more dust/pet hair than usual due to the control board location behind the toe panel below
My power went out for around 11 hours, and now the ice maker is making ice, but the auger isn't pushing the ice out. The motor runs but it doesn't turn. I cleaned out the old ice that was clumped before I tried using it after the power came back on. Any ideas on what I can try to get it moving again?
@@fishepa No I haven't. I haven't tried taking it apart yet. I did try a hair dryer on it to see if it was frozen, but no luck. I may not have tried long enough.
Great video, it helped understanding my issue a lot. I have this new grfc2353af french door, provided by builder. I dont want the top icer maker and I want to check if it can be removed... main concern is constant noise when its fan runs and I changed the fan but seems like noise is within range (32-47db), I am just more hearing the whining fan noise. Thus would love to know if we can remove it?
thank you for your service to us peons! I have a Frigidiaire FFHB2740PEB with french doors and recently replaced the main control panel. Now, the ice maker makes cubes but the auger doesn't dispense them... the auger turns manually but I don't know what part to replace other than infamous shot gun approach. Any suggestions?
Ordered the kit from your site and is missing the gasket that goes around the fan. Not the black foam but the white rubber. Is this necessary or have they decided to leave it out?
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful. I have a similar model fridge to the one in your video, this morning I came into the kitchen and found it making a very loud buzzing noise (not the usual hum). When I open the door it stops, then resumes when I close the door. My guess is that it is coming from the ice maker, I was considering removing the ice maker (with the added bonus of regaining some space), will that affect the integrity of the fresh food compartment? If I take off the ice box and leave the air handler would that be okay? There is more in the back of the ice maker than I had realized. Thank you!
I have removed all of the necessary parts/ screws, yet the ice box won't come out (almost like it is glued on). It is completely thawed out so it is not ice holding it in. Any thoughts? Mine is a slightly different model (prmc2285af). Thank you.
This situation is very similar to mine except I actually had an "ice ball" on the backside of the refrigerator with "rusting". I thawed out the ice ball but did not realize the insulation might be saturated too. What do you recommend for dealing with that? After messing with this ice machine no less than a half dozen times, I am ready to buy and install your recommended fix kit. I should be an expert at this point! (thanks Frigidaire! :(). Let me know your suggestions for the saturated insulation. Also, let me echo about what a thorough, well-done video you had as well! Thanks! Frank from Denver
Its possible, but there are a few variables too. One of the first steps I'd look at is ice-room temperature. If its too warm (above 18*F or so), it won't make ice. I would put a thermostat or some sort of sensor to record temperatures and see what happens.
Hey Ben! I found your video informative but my issue with this model has to do with the dispenser located in the door...The part that triggers the dispenser to shut off the flow of ice and water when one removes their glass appears to have broken...Do you have any instruction on how to replace that?
I tell people not to get them and the number of people that complain and get angry at me for saying that they shouldn't be allowed to have that. Staggering period the reality is people demand them regardless of how unreliable it makes their refrigerators sadly
I have a Frigidaire that was made in 2021. The ice maker looks identical to the one you are working on here. I saw that low water pressure can also affect ice production. Is that true in your experience?
Hey Ben! I've had this issue and my jerry rigged solution made the rust spot on the back worse. If I do this full fix will it stop the rust spot from spreading?
No, rust is like cancer it will continue to eat away. I cut a 9x17 hole in mine 6yrs ago and patched it with aluminum plate. Put clear caulking around the edge, place the plate over the hole and pop rivet the plate on. Some rust came back below the plate and I put rust blocking paint o dr that portion. So far it has stopped. It’s 10yrs old this year.
I sell appliances, and it's crazy how popular french door bottom freezer fridges are. They are *the* suburban mom *thing* to have that lets them know they've made it in life. What's strange is that these same customers hate chest freezers and *must* have upright freezers despite the many drawbacks of upright freezers, but they love having a fridge with a built-in chest freezer. They also *must* have water and ice available on the door of their new french door bottom freezer fridge. I like to remind them that, with the freezer on the bottom, how does the ice freeze when the icemaker is in the cabinet that is *above freezing*? The answer is, of course, "not as reliably as a side by side"... Maybe 1 in 10 will consider a (in my opinion) much more reliable side by side fridge.
Want a good story? When I was at Encompass Day, the head tech from HiSense US division was there. Started talking failure rates and ice makers. He said that Bosch commissioned a survey a few years back that HiSense took part in as well. Do you know what the ice maker usage rate is? US+CAN is larger than the GLOBAL DEMAND for icemakers for hisense. They sell in 206 nations. The US + Canada sells more icemakers than the other 204 combined. THATS how crazy we are for ice.
@@bensappliancesandjunk That's WILD... There's something quintessentially American about having access to fleeting moments of low entropy. Whether it's poorly insulated cheaply built houses with massive, powerful, grid-punishing multi-ton air conditioners, huge appliances that are somehow both ancient in design but also built as flimsily as possible (looking at you, Whirlpool VMW!) in such a way as to cost people thousands of dollars in excessive energy usage... It all comes down to *feeling* like we're in control of our lives and have *freedom*. We have the *freedom* to want the top to be sorta cold and the bottom to be freezing, but also a tiny box inside the sorta cold box should also be freezing. We have the *freedom* to spin our clothes at 650 rpm and pay twice as much to dry them - and don't suggest hanging to dry while I special order my customers matching dryer that just died, suggesting people hang their clothes to dry for a week, because obviously Americans do like 900 pounds of laundry a week and that is basically like starting a fist fight I've noticed... "I don't have time for that!" "I'm not some housewife! I have freedom!"??? It's bizarre.
Yep. I wish the industry would move away from ice rooms all together. Accomplishing the goal of freezing water doesn’t need to be needlessly complicated
Side by side fridges have also problems, depending on the brand name. People have the right of choice, but manufacturers should deliver good quality, no matter what customers decide to buy.
Hello, I defrosted my ice maker with the help of a hair dryer. Its making ice, the bucket is full. When the doors are closed and the lever is pressed the dispenser door flap opens but i dont hear the auger turning and no ice is dispensed. Any suggestions?
Great video, what you’d recommend if water gets into the bin and clumps the ice. Could it be that it’s overfilling icemaker? How to deal with that? All that you did in the video didn’t solve the issue. Thanks!
Ben, I installed the kit I got from eBay. It didn’t come with water line. It worked for a bit, then stopped again. Ice make compartment is too warm. Evaporator fan is running. I guess I’ll remove a few parts and check for build up again. It was ice upped when I installed the kit. I used an ohm meter on the defrost coil and checked the thermo coupler switch, both looked good. Any other ideas? Thanks Dan
It is warm, I’m wondering if the unit is iced up again and nd maybe the defroster is not working. I ran the defrost cycle, but no change. I’ll have to disassemble and check.
Ben..I bought the kit and did the retro fit. It came on and filled up the ice bin. Then it quit. No more ice since then. Any thoughts? (Thanks for the video, it is the most excellent of any I've seen! Kudos:)
My brother pushed the ice door in and severed a white wire with a rubber coating. I’m not sure where it goes to, all I know is that it’s running from the part that tilts the ice trey up top. The side that plugs up is good, it’s the opposite end I need to know where it’s from
That's likely the NTC element that sits on the bottom of the ice cube tray. I also severed mine but also touched the wires together which fried both the main board and door control board. Get that fixed before it leads to other issues. Should be able to just replace the sensor.
Ok, so everything on this video has been done and I went through and did the diagnostics for the icemaker that's in your other video and everything passed. But it still will not work automatically. It will fill the tray. It will dump the tray. And the sensor arm goes up and down as it should. I've unplugged the fridge for 10 minutes a couple of times. Do you have anymore ideas?
Yes, but taking the temp with a temp gun it's 15 degrees but the fridge thinks it's warmer either 20 or 28 degrees inside the ice maker. Would that point to a thermostat? It looks like there is a thermostat at the top of the coil but that there may be one also under the ice tray. Am I correct about those both being a temperature probe?
This is off topic but could you please do a video on wash machines and driers for equine activities such as washing heavy horse blankets that have metal hardware & straps?
@@bensappliancesandjunk I asked because I saw that Miele has a Equine Laundry machine but you've said in a video that it's a nightmare to service that brand's machines. The video was - The Best Washer EVER to Buy May not be What You Think! BTW if what you're saying is true about the reliability issues then I wonder if the yacht world simply replaces the machines than to fix them.
@@jmd1743 Its going to vary based on technician availability and willingness to repair vs. the cost to replace the machine. That equation can be difficult to make as a tech in the middle of nowhere, Ohio. You may have access to more Miele technicians in your area than I see here, so it makes sense. Find a local distributor of the MIele equine laundry machine you mention. Ask them questions. See if the answers are suitable and meet your needs. I do not have access to that machine, so there's nothing I can say about it.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Alright. I appreciate your willingness to reply to my question. I use to sneak into a laundry mat with 5 or 6 heavy horse for my sister each . They had Dexter units, I was wondering what were my other options.
No, please inspect the parts as shown in the video. They are wildly different. You'd want to buy the icemaker repair kit my shop sells for that model which includes a drain tube/heater combo, drain clips, and the SIL-4500 mentioned at the very end of the video. The air handler system is molded into a Samsung, and there's less of an air gap. Link: bens-appliances.com/products/samsung-icemaker-leak-moisture-kit
Easily the worst fix I've done on this channel, and that's saying a lot. However, if you had to do this more than once it isn't bad at all if you know what you're dealing with going into it.
What’s cause of the ‘air gap’? -improper Installation at factory? -Part defect? -Design defect? -Homeowner misuse of frig? -normal wear and tear? After it’s repaired…will the defect reoccur? If so…what will cause the reoccurrence?
I replaced my dryer belt on my GE. It works, but now I hear what might be described as a ticking noise. I hate to take it apart again. I know I will but any thoughts?
No it's probably the lop in the drum from where they tac weld the drums together , just be careful taking those apart as there is a metal corner by the blower fan housing I always bend down as I've had to super glue a couple really nasty cuts from those
I was wondering what type of tool bag / box you take into a home? I have had several bag styles and I’m not a fan of them. By the way, I find these Frigidaire ice maker assemblies, pathetic. Very expensive repair to the customer. I was listening to a news snippet a few months ago where Electrolux had lost a huge amount of money on quarterly sales, gee I wonder why?
This ones' insulation wasn't that bad. I had a full video on documenting the fix, and I did that video months ago - still humming along well. I've done the fix multiple times before, no callbacks.
How ironic, I was just looking up your videos to see what subject matter you had, I owned a Frigidaire gallery from 2013 to just last month, over the past 3-4 years I had issues with the icemaker, one repair guy came and wanted to install new icemaker, Frigidaire guy came and told me it’s a known issue not repairable since the back of the refrigerator had the rusting, but far worse than your video, so I was just going to do without ice until I wanted a new refrigerator, but after the repair guy unplugged the refrigerator the ice maker must have defrost like you can happen, after about 1-2 years the problem occurred again, so now I knew I could just unhook to defrost because I not know your method to defrost. Unfortunately after next few years the refrigerator was not holding its temperature, fluctuating up and down so I just replaced the Frigidaire just last month, I got 10 years out of it. On to a LG, I see your LG reviews are not very good but saw this after my purchase. There should be some type of class action on Frigidaire since my issue was very common with their units
Hey Ben, question: I had a problem with the bottom ice maker freezing up in the back of it causing the chest door not to close right. I disconnected and removed the bottom ice maker from the unit. Would this affect the operation of the top ice maker? The top is not making any ice now. Thank You!
a little dab of grease will hold the last screw into the socket instead of taping it to the socket.....even vaseline would work because it is tacky and less greasy
Please talk about Bosch! The water dispenser valve broke after 2 months! Bosch won’t send out repairman because none in my area. They want us to destroy the fridge before they’ll refund us, which will take a month. So a whole month without a fridge. Now the ice machine isn’t working at all. I hate Bosch!
Would anyone be interested in buying a Maytag laundry machine coin operated with keys front loader with the big belt and motor . Selling as is with something electronically wrong
My refrigerator/ freezer is only one month old and ice maker not working. Fridgidaire servie sucks. They have referrede to two warranty companies. They set up a repair time for me with the first company. I called the first company and was told they do not follow the manufacturer schedule. They would be there in a week, but had no idea when. I would have to be home all day waiting to see if they could come. Wow i work for a living, not important to them. The second company didnot even return my call.
😂😂😂😂
I might be right there with you. LOL We bought a house with a 2-year-old Frigidaire model similar to the one shown here. The freezer works sporadically and the Ice Maker continues to freeze up every other week. I’m glad I found this video. I will be purchasing a repair kit and trying to fix it…but we may have to replace this machine. It has hardly any interior volume for storage, is incredibly noisy, and consistently has issues.
😂😂
This is the only video that I have found that states "to fix this right" , here's the proper method. Thank you for outlining the right fix.
Glad you liked it! The kit is the way to fully fix it but is definitely not a quick fix to do
Thank you very much. Ordered the kit from your website. Watched video as I did repair. Now the wife is happy.
THanks!
Excellent!
Was the repair guy right, it's been a month. 😂 what he meant is it usually comes back and there is no permanent fix.
Bravo Ben!!!
I have been battling this issue since Janurary of this year this is super informative I replaced the water filter and also replaced the water valve ice maker worked for a couple of days but started acting up again.
I’m gonna tackle this more in depth tomorrow
“Update in case anyone cares”
This 100% fixed my issue!! :)
what fixed your issue? the complete reinstall as per the video, or your fix?
@@gugbogey So sorry for the late reply I’m just now seeing this.
Yes i followed the instructions per the video and ordered the kit Ben recommended.
I have not had anymore issues with the ice maker tube freezing up.
My guess is that insulation add-on including the foil wrapped ice maker water tube is what fixed the issue.
I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with my Frigidaire at the moment, and this video was exactly what I needed to see to get background knowledge!
I used this on mine and I’m back up and running. Great job 👌
I'm thinking after I defrost the inlet hose, I'll seal that box to the fridge walls/ceiling.
reverse or left hand thread is easier to understand for how the auger fork installs on the shaft...never heard "counter sunk"...great video
It looks like they took my idea for the new water tubing you installed... it was wrapped in aluminum foil (unless you added that) so it too will absorb heat from the environment and keep the outlet perhaps above freezing.
dude teach me this power, this is exactly what is happening with mine
I finally did the same thing because the drain kept freezing up. Been fixed for about 8 months now!
Thank-you, Ben, for a great video and making the parts available. The silicon sealant is a great idea as I am very suspicious that warm air can enter the system through the water line port.
Glad it was helpful!
After a couple of years I finaly found the perfect video, thanks broth🎉🎉
Thanks
Thanks!
I will be purchasing a repair kit and trying to fix it in the coming weeks…but we may have to replace this machine.
Same. I’ll never buy a Frigidaire ever again, and I tell anyone looking for appliances to avoid them as well. This fix should be free by Frigidaire.
I retired this year as an appliance technician and I can recommend Bosch. More expensive at first, but in the long run is wohrt it. Also, LG is good, but not as the previous brandname.
Thank you Ben for the video. Looks to difficult for me to fix. Using ice trays now. 😅
I'm thinking the same thing 😂
🤣
THANK YOU! Excellent video... you greatly helped me out and made the repair quick and easy.
Sorry I read this today, but any appliance is covered under warranty for at least one year.
I dried it with a hair dryer and it work, but soon as temp went below freezing temps, it, happended again. also had ice on the outside of the housing near the back of the fridge. thx
Thanks again Great install video
Good job as usual
It seems everything regarding air flow including the condenser is poorly designed
This model seems to accumulate a lot more dust/pet hair than usual due to the control board location behind the toe panel below
My power went out for around 11 hours, and now the ice maker is making ice, but the auger isn't pushing the ice out. The motor runs but it doesn't turn. I cleaned out the old ice that was clumped before I tried using it after the power came back on. Any ideas on what I can try to get it moving again?
I'm actually having the same exact issue, were you able to fix it?
@@fishepa No I haven't. I haven't tried taking it apart yet. I did try a hair dryer on it to see if it was frozen, but no luck. I may not have tried long enough.
I'm having the same problem
What is the model number of the refrigerator?
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful. I have a similar model fridge to the one in your video, this morning I came into the kitchen and found it making a very loud buzzing noise (not the usual hum). When I open the door it stops, then resumes when I close the door. My guess is that it is coming from the ice maker, I was considering removing the ice maker (with the added bonus of regaining some space), will that affect the integrity of the fresh food compartment? If I take off the ice box and leave the air handler would that be okay? There is more in the back of the ice maker than I had realized. Thank you!
Can ice maker be removed completely and refrigerator still function properly?
I have removed all of the necessary parts/ screws, yet the ice box won't come out (almost like it is glued on). It is completely thawed out so it is not ice holding it in. Any thoughts? Mine is a slightly different model (prmc2285af). Thank you.
Nice work on this video!
I have a video on the ice ball on the backside it's 9n the channel
@@bensappliancesandjunk Forgive me, but I couldn't find it. Could you provide the link?
Nevermind, I found it. Thx.
Would a bad mother board be the reason an ice maker would stop making ice? Tried new ice maker @ new water valve.
Its possible, but there are a few variables too. One of the first steps I'd look at is ice-room temperature. If its too warm (above 18*F or so), it won't make ice. I would put a thermostat or some sort of sensor to record temperatures and see what happens.
@@bensappliancesandjunkGood idea, thank you
Awesome video. Thanks!
Is there a way to reset ice maker on this fridge ?
Hey Ben! I found your video informative but my issue with this model has to do with the dispenser located in the door...The part that triggers the dispenser to shut off the flow of ice and water when one removes their glass appears to have broken...Do you have any instruction on how to replace that?
Hi sadly I don't right now
I hate how they put ice makers and water dispensers in fridges by default. I love your fix-it videos though.
How do you make it make more ice. Ours hardly puts 2" of ice in the tray.
Hey Ben! I've had this issue and my jerry rigged solution made the rust spot on the back worse. If I do this full fix will it stop the rust spot from spreading?
Should, yes, between the sealant kit + re-sealing back w/ insulation
Hi Ben @bensappliancesandjunk, can you provide the item number for the wire harness? Mine was corroded.
What's your model#?
@@bensappliancesandjunk it’s FGHF2366PFAA
The model number is JBCD-22. Thank you!!
Ben what is the model number of the refrigerator?
Today i learned i can live without ice. 🤣
If the fan of the air handler is not working does this mean the fridge won’t get cold air?
Great video, what you’d recommend if water gets into the bin and clumps the ice. Could it be that it’s overfilling icemaker? How to deal with that? All that you did in the video didn’t solve the issue. Thanks!
Ben, very good information. How soon before these kits become available again. Have mine apart now!! Thanks, Dan
I'm not sure. I've called factories to see if we can replicate/sell it... They've been out for 3-4 months now and its utterly depressing.
Someone has them on eBay , but pricey.
Thanks Dan
@@danscherbert1256 check temps inside cabinet w/ a thermometer. The icemaker has to be
It is warm, I’m wondering if the unit is iced up again and nd maybe the defroster is not working. I ran the defrost cycle, but no change. I’ll have to disassemble and check.
Why did you replace the water line ,did it cause a problem ???
It was included in the kit, and contained a better more robust gasket so the line doesn't freeze up.
Great video bro👏
Legit took 3 months to do because of waiting for repair kit
Ben..I bought the kit and did the retro fit. It came on and filled up the ice bin. Then it quit. No more ice since then. Any thoughts?
(Thanks for the video, it is the most excellent of any I've seen! Kudos:)
How long did it take to fill up the bin, and how long has it been since it quit?
My brother pushed the ice door in and severed a white wire with a rubber coating. I’m not sure where it goes to, all I know is that it’s running from the part that tilts the ice trey up top. The side that plugs up is good, it’s the opposite end I need to know where it’s from
That's likely the NTC element that sits on the bottom of the ice cube tray. I also severed mine but also touched the wires together which fried both the main board and door control board. Get that fixed before it leads to other issues. Should be able to just replace the sensor.
Great JOB Thanks!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Does the repair kit work for my Frigidaire model ffhb2750td5 ?
Do they have a fix for low production of ice mine never gets full and I run out of ice . I am the only person in house .
What's the ice housing temperature?
I used a temp gun and the coils are 14 degrees. The plastic housing is 17 degrees Fahrenheit. It did make about 3 or 4 batches of ice over night
The display on the fridge says 20 but it could be 28 because my displays center bar for that digit isn't working
@@hoitlygtlio that's where I'd worry the issue was/is. If the housing can't maintain
Not sure what you want me to say? Go commercial and larger cap like dexter.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I asked because I saw that Miele has a Equine Laundry machine but you've said in a video that it's a nightmare to service that brand's machines.

Does this kit work with a Samsung model RF28HMEDBSR/AA? Do you know the way to force defrost?
No, please inspect the parts as shown in the video. They are wildly different. You'd want to buy the icemaker repair kit my shop sells for that model which includes a drain tube/heater combo, drain clips, and the SIL-4500 mentioned at the very end of the video. The air handler system is molded into a Samsung, and there's less of an air gap.

Quite a procedure! Glad I don't own one of those refrigerators.
Easily the worst fix I've done on this channel, and that's saying a lot. However, if you had to do this more than once it isn't bad at all if you know what you're dealing with going into it.
My fridge will not stop dispensing ice, how do you fix that
What’s cause of the ‘air gap’?
-improper Installation at factory?
-Part defect?
-Design defect?
-Homeowner misuse of frig?
-normal wear and tear?
After it’s repaired…will the defect reoccur?
If so…what will cause the reoccurrence?
Overtime things just generally degrade and it's the same way with the Samsung's. Re sealing solves it and they have new parts to seal it better
Planning to buy a newer model Frigidaire french door refrigerator. Are the ice makers still problematic & unreliable?
All in door ice is bad honestly. Buy I do have a Frigidaire myself. Seems OK
If the rear has rust then the insulation is compromised.
Thank You!
It shouldnt effect it I believe

Please talk about Bosch! The water dispenser valve broke after 2 months! Bosch won’t send out repairman because none in my area. They want us to destroy the fridge before they’ll refund us, which will take a month. So a whole month without a fridge. Now the ice machine isn’t working at all. I hate Bosch!
Where do you live?

Easy way to defrost is to unplug and let reefer sit with doors open for 2 days.
Thx U thx u
this would have been helpful 2 years ago
but now we have 2 fridges with working ice makers
and have the fd/el away
I have had the icemaker repaired twice. About to cost more than the fridge.
i have this fridge. the ONLY thing i like about it is the freezer.
Would anyone be interested in buying a Maytag laundry machine coin operated with keys front loader with the big belt and motor . Selling as is with something electronically wrong
its cheaper and easier to buy ice and put into freezer outside.
I regret ever buying this refrigerator/freezer and would advise anyone looking to buy one DON'T
