  • If your Ice Maker is not working, this video will show how to Diagnose and Repair it. The diagnosis procedure should work for virtually any fridge with an ice maker, but if you're wondering, this is a Frigidaire Gallery model number GLRS2642A-B6.

    For any others who might run into this problem, I spent literally hours trying to diagnose what was wrong after running through everything in the video and nothing seemed to work. I ran into something online that said to pop off the front of the actual ice maker (just use a little bit of force but it should pop off if it's like the one in the video) and if the gears are not moving, turn the large gear 1/4 of the way around clockwise to begin a manual reset process. Within a few minutes water came from the tube into the ice maker but it took me resetting multiple times to get ice and it still didn't work continuously without constantly resetting which led me to believe something may be wrong with the motor.
    After very close inspection the next day, I realized that probably a mm of two of the wedge tips on the gear had been corroded/chipped off and that was the reason the gear wasn't turning, water wasn't flowing into the freezer and ice wasn't being made. A quick gear order of Amazon for $15 ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083HMNWBP/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza ) fixed my issue and ice is flowing back in. Just glad I didn't have to replace the whole ice maker! Thanks @Farm Dad for the walkthrough as I would have never been able to deduce what was happening without this video and learned a whole ton about my refrigerator/ice maker in the process! lol
    Also my model number was FFSS2614QS6A.

      Dude thank you! I decided to try this after replacing the filter before I pulled the fridge out (easiest to hardest method order lol) and I had a broken tooth on the gear and the loose tooth got jammed and stopped it from spinning. We are up and running now!

      Thank you so much! After the repairman looked at it for 30 seconds and said the whole ice maker needs replaced and quoted $350 I was shocked. Found this video, and this comment and sure enough, the gear had been worn down. And now it's working. Thank you!

    You helped me in the first minute of your video. My ice maker lever has been stuck in the halfway position for months. I stuck my finger in to feel around for water or ice - nothing. I sat back down to continue your video when I heard the water come on for my fridge. I looked in the freezer, and the arm was down with a full tray of water! It’s a miracle on ice! 😂

    After watching your video I was able to assess what my problems was. I used a pair of bent needle nosed pliers and removed the plastic water piece from the back of the refrigerator and it was frozen solid. I noticed that to remove this piece I had to turn is a quarter turn to unlock and then pull. After I thawed out the ice I simple replaced and quarter turned it into the lock position and then reattached the water source. Thank you for posting your instructional video, it was very helpful.

    Hey guys - just wanted to share a fix you might want to try. I had a repair guy finally look at my ice maker (2018 fridge). Turns out there was a design problem (he spoke to someone from Electrolux). Air was seeping into the hole where the waterline goes. If you live someplace that has high humidity it could cause the line to freeze. The fix was to insulate the line in the fridge and also seal the hole. Used to freeze up after 2 days and stop making ice. Has been running great for 2.5 weeks now and makes ice much much faster. Good luck!

    • @lestine38able
      @lestine38able 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey not sure how to insulate. Can you plz walk me through

    • @bluusoda
      @bluusoda 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lestine38able hi, the final fix was to replace the hose that goes into the fridge. The insulation part was basically just making sure there’s no gap where the hose enters the fridge.

    I had a kink in my water line that required replacement and thought that that would fix the problem. A day later, still no ice: I found your video and checked the water dispenser and sure enough, the plastic thingy was chock full of ice. I popped it out, melted the ice and cleaned the gunk that had built up, and I’m now getting ice. I am over the moon! Thank you for teaching me how to maintain my own stuff!!!

    Great video...... this was perfect and I found the ice in the plastic piece that you showed. I do want to caution those that will doing this, the metal plate behind the fridge that surrounds the plastic piece is extremely sharp. I made the mistake of running my finger across it as I was pulling the piece and ended up with a pretty deep cut in my thumb. I suggest using pliers to pull the piece out if it doesn't budge for the inside, or taping around the metal edge that surrounds the piece. Good luck. Great video!

    When pulling out the water feed "spicket" or tube, first turn it 1/4 turn counter clockwise, as there's a tiny plastic locking tab holding it in. This was iced up, on my fridge. Also, there's a tiny funnel on the ice maker itself, that this spicket dumps water into and it was frozen up too so, I actually had to remove the entire ice maker (super easy) and let it thaw out. You're processed worked great. Thanks!!

Listed to make sure the solenoid was kicking in, no water in tray, even felt the inlet to make sure it was clear of ice, water dispenser working. But, watched this, figured it had to be the chute leading from the water line. Yep! Just wished I had watched this video first!

      @@FarmDad I do have one question I have not found an answer for: Why does the water enter the back of the unit behind the ice maker rather than the water filter? Doesn't the water for the ice maker go through the filter first?

    • @FarmDad
      @FarmDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelweaver4718 yes it does go through filter first. The water line from your house should go to the filter. Then from filter it should go to the solenoid valve which will send filtered water to the ice maker as needed.

    Hello Thank you for this Video I was able figure out how to get My Ice Maker working in my Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator. It was just as you showed Ice in the water tube going into the Ice maker and I was able to clear an Ice clog. I could not get the tube out but I was able to use a syringe and a plastic tube and squirt hot water into the tube to clear the Ice. I am waiting for the Ice make to cycle and see if I start making Ice again? Thank You I'm quite sure that now that the ice clog is gone it should start working again I already replaced the water valve assembly. When my water dispenser stopped working about a month ago. because the line was frozen inside the door. Thanks for this video it helped me figure out my Ice maker problem. CHEERS!!

    I was not getting ice from my icemaker but I had water on the door so I replaced the solenoid valve and still no ice. I then replaced the icemaker and that didn't help. I have been watching you tube and you showed me how to remove water tube which was frozen solid. Thank you for your help. Daniel Gariglio

    Thank you. Great basic quick check before moving on to replacement parts. It would be great to have seen the valve replacement or learn if some valves can be purchased at a local hardware store. I did learn about checking the top stem for blockage from this video but was not lucky and appears to be the valve. Thank you.

    • @FarmDad
      @FarmDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I would have put in the video that a lot of times you can confirm whether your valve is bad by switching the connections on its solenoids. If you reverse the connections and no longer have water at the dispenser but start getting ice, the solenoid for the ice maker is bad. It's usually easiest to replace the whole valve. I usually buy it online as most hardware stores won't have it.

    I’m at the point where I have the green tube in a bucket. I see a little bit of water within the tube and when I shake it, some water comes out. However, the water doesn’t look like it’s fully through the line. I can see increments where it stops and goes. How long should I leave it in the bucket for before I can determine this is the issue? So far it’s been in the bucket for an hour and no water is in the bucket. At one point should it be flowing out or should there just be a little water in the bucket?
    Thanks so much!!

    Watched the video a couple weeks ago. The steps led us to believe it was the valve, so we ordered one and I just replaced it. Still not working, because the ice maker isn't "calling" for ice, so I'm back to watch and follow the steps again (I see a lot of people with frozen intake tubes!) before I order the ice maker unit this time. BF just checked the fuses and they're fine. Argh! Wish me luck.

      That's frustrating. It could be that the freezer temp is set a little too cold. If not that you may try insulating that little tube. It won't look pretty but should help 👍

    This is a very well done video and has helped me with my freezer. But it doesn't cover the problem I have now. It seems like there is no power getting to the freezer light and the part that pushes the ice out. The light was coming on intermittently when I lifted the ice maker unit and the dispenser would start to work. But now it doesn't come on at all and the dispenser is dead. It seems like a connection is loose. Do you have any idea where to look? Thank you.
