    I buff/wax 50+ boats a season with my Dewalt DWP849X. The bearings are starting to get noisy and the housing gets warm now. Can I re-grease them? Or do I need to send out to Dewalt?

    I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can by Saturday watching all your videos! I detail cars for a living, and I ordered the renegade kit and about to purchase a Dewalt machine tomorrow. I got 2 semis to polish out, and to say I’m nervous is an understatement. Hopefully I can get these semis to shine! Got the wheels, tanks, and the box near the steps. I’m pretty sure I under quoted my self a lot, and hopefully I can get both of them done in a day. But we will see! Thank you for sharing these videos!

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do know some polishers that have tried it but I personally have not. 9,000 is way too fast and dangerous for me to get ballsy enough to try it. And I'm not certain it would have enough torque to be able to use enough pressure to be effective. But if you do try it let me know. Be safe and shine on.

    Stupid question alert 🚨 if I used an 8” buff rather than a 9”. Would it help with building more heat? Since it’s smaller? And maybe would hold rpm better? I have no experience but just curious.

    What about mesh sandpaper for stainless?
    I searched your channel to see if you talked about mesh sandpaper, came back with no results. I see in the comments that one of your preferred brands is Mirka, but it seems you use paper backed discs. What's your opinion on mesh discs like the Mirka Abranet?
    I have little experiance sanding stainless, but thought the Abranet Ace, which is a ceramic mesh, would be a good choice to use on a stainless steel barrel I want to polish.

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We've actually just started messing with the mesh sandpaper and are about to do a video on it. I have found that on aluminum the mesh works great and extends the life of the paper but on the stainless it gets so hot it tears the mesh up and makes a mess. But we are still testing and hoping to get different results. But you will see a video here sooner or later.

    • @MrLonstar
      @MrLonstar หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EvanStegerMetalPolishing It's been a couple months since I asked this question, and since then I've used both Mirka Abranet and Abranet Ace.
      I'm not experianced enough, nor use it enough, to say whether the Ace is better, but overall I like the mesh disks better. They definitely last longer than paper discs (blow 'em off and keep going), and I think they leave a cleaner finish. Paper leaves a noticable residue, especially when wet. With mesh, there's little to no residue. You know where you stand as you sand.
      I haven't had a problem with tearing when hot, but they are fragile. Catch an edge or something just a bit sharp, and goodbye Sally. On more occasions than I care to admit, I've put a bran spanky disc on my orbital (either air or electric) and set it on what I'm sanding, and it catches on something. Ripped pieces go flying. Pisses me off, didn't sand a bit with the disc and it's trashed.

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrLonstar I’ve now used both and still prefer traditional paper to get the best results. But I never sand wet. Only dry.

    Well I can tell you read from the rip that that one that you are showing in this video the Makita that is not a polisher that is a grinder the DeWalt is a polisher Makita has its own brand of polishers and I've only Makita now for several years and it is by far the best tool that I've ever used I have a brand new Dewalt that I like also but I think it sounds louder and I think it does about the same job it is brand new one of the newest dewalt's and it doesn't nice job too but it is little bit louder than the Makita and I'm just used to that Makita after the last 7 years of detailing has never never I've never burned up hey Paula sure some people say they've burnt them up I have used mind my day in and day out for many years never had one issue

    The makita is not a polisher, it is an angle grinder, you cannot compare a grinder with a polisher, all polishers have adjustable speed, if they do not have it, it is because they are grinders

      I have the Makita 9227 and it's about 13 yrs old and I've only replaced the cord which was
      about a 5 minute job and never touched or replaced the brushes.
      The variable speed is the way to go when buffing paint or sanding wood.
      I blow it out running after each use to keep it from collecting dust.
      The Makita 9237C is pretty much the same buffer but weighs a pound more but has added
      features and may well be worth the extra money.

    Hitachi (Metabo HPT) beats them both hands down. Lighter and more compact than both the Makita and Dewalt. 600-3000 rpm, high torque, electronic speed control, variable speed, soft start, Japanese quality under 200 bucks.

      Thanks for sharing. I've tried them for years and never had good luck with them but to each their own.

    What's your opinion on the Milwaukee Fuel cordless grinder/polishers? It's 6,000 and 2,200 rpm respectively but can't find specs on their torque. Would love to pick either or those up if they're adequate. I know cordless has come a long way and the portability is a such huge benefit.

      They are very inadequate for polishing metal. They chew through batteries and don't have no where near enough torque.
