    I usually spray the compound with water and find it makes it more fine each time it’s hydrated. In my experience only works best starting with a medium cutting compound. Saves having to use a 2nd product to polish. Not the text book procedure but works

    I detailed cars in the early 90’s and rotary is all we had. I just bought a forced rotation to do a boat for a buddy. It is a game changer for polishing but i had to use the old Mikita to compound with.

    Great video, thanks for making it and putting it up for us. Really liked the tips on what not to do, cause im guessing you've watched enough kids get in the shop or "that new guy" and fight the tools, fight the method, and fight what you are telling them to do. I find a "what not to do" tip can get as much or even more mileage than a "how exactly to do" tip. Cause im going to try and do things in weird ways before i finally realize that the guy who showed me what to do had reasons for doing things exactly as hes doing those things. Why not to is a gift to us noobs. Thanks friend.

    What rpm are you running with the Starke Elevate?

  • @bobadingo
    @bobadingo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Polishing lightweight small parts is impossible with a random orbital ,
    so rotary is the only way to go using 3 inch up to 5 in pads and I'm referring to Automotive two stage & single-stage paints.
    As a matter of fact I don't like DA's regardless due to the high vibration caused by various weights of different pads or else you have to change counterbalances which induces more work.
    so rotary truly is the best all-around polishing machine.. .

    Even with 3M's Heavy Cut, you can get a swirl-free finish. I've seen it with Super-Duty too but only once.
    Good stuff.

    I been using a rotary and offering buff and wax using a product with compound and finishing material and I haven’t gotten much swirls or holograms it’s very little but I thought that was all I had to do to make a boat shine like crazy guess I was wrong

    • @S-I-was-Saying-
      @S-I-was-Saying- หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I you have gotten the boat gelcoat to really shine/mirror like.. you Are doing it right!.. I been using rotary with white wool & yellow wool pads.. & Maguires 1step compound +polish in 1+.. ( problem is my Rotary buffer is lil old & doesn't have rpm settings!.. so I manage by depending on how bad oxidation is /age/roughness & color.. & I been detailing for years.. every single boat is always different on how /what I attempt to use.. recently I realized so.e bad errors on my end that kept leaving color/oil/polish>wax blotches/ etc.. frustrating the hell out of me.. then I couldn't believe what I was causing these errors from.. when I cleaned boat I used Boat wash mixed with Dawn soap 🧼.. the Mistake was boat wash had carnuba wax in it!.. 😮 .. This caused such issues.. because when you are using Gelcoat paint cleaners/Compound/ & polish .. You need the surface to be completely Cleaned of Any oils/Waxes /oils etc.. ya want a Very clean Surface (Preped) at all times when you are doing EACH STEP*.. SO VERY CLEAN DRY SURFACE.. FOR WHEN EACH STEP IS BEING APPLIED.. YES.. wipe>clean compound & polish aftwrwards.. crucial!.. Before you apply the final sealant> protectant like( Ceramic/ Wax/etc).. these steps are missed so many times, & we wonder why does it look blotchy or weird?..
      .. In your case sounds like you had it right!.. Only thing else ya have to do.. is reclean/ or Prep clean (spray) wipe off & final step is.. The protectant of your choosing!.. Carnuba or Teflon wax or Ceramic glide coat/ or other sealants! .. If boat is Reflections shiny clean.. then the Protectant of your choice would now go on with such ease & wipe off..
      Everyone has thier own methods.. this dude has alot of experience & does alot of cool creative steps.. me I like to cut corners but with shooting for exact same results!..

      Whenever it stops cutting. Foam pads will start to grip the boat as they get clogged up and wool pads will start to cut too deep. Listen for a rattling noise from your wool pad when you clean it with a spur.

    How can you prevent or retard tanning on a white hull? I compounded and waxed the hull to a mirror shine. Kept the boat in a marina for 3 days to install new bunks on my trailer. Pull the boat out and tanning lines. Won't wash off. Now I have to spray on an acid to remove the tanning lines and destroy my hard work. Wish I have to do over again.
