    What an awesome video. So much detail explaining all the small steps. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything going on. I always ended up leaving hash marks and now I know why. I had the pleasure of talking to you at Amcan. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. God Bless you for being such a neat guy. Thank you..!

      Hi Evan this video clarified alot of things didn't understand in the prep work associated with the polishing ,thank you very much for the step by step comments you made in-between Nick's work.
      Im a metal worker by trade but have been driving trucks for 30yrs. Im now very interested in learning the art of polishing myself. I've watched many of your videos and they are all very well articulated, and very easy to follow.
      Thank you Evan

    Killer content. Super helpful. I’ve polished some things but a long time ago. Trying to get up on the new wheels and rouges. My main takeaway though is how and what do you look for to know when to reapply rouge?

    is their a final coating to protect this final shine and how long does this shine last?

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Shine will last depending on the conditions it is exposed to. Most show polish guys don't run their show quality stuff in the winter and they also wash a lot. So a show shine will hold up great if kept clean but if not maintained show quality is so perfect and so smooth that the shine can get eroded from perfection very quickly. Every scratch and imperfection shows up on perfect stuff far faster than stuff that is just nicely polished. Show shine is a lot more to maintain and keep nice.

    I want to do this with my rims on my 300C….is sanding necessary if they already have a polished look

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      On a chrysler 300 c they are likely chrome. If they are chrome they cannot be polished like this. Be sure you figure out what material they are.

    What's the best Aluminum Alloy to polish... Any corrosion protection after?

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The best is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone has their own preference. I make my own called time2shine aluminum polish. It has a lot of wax in it to protect and is easy to use. I use it everyday in my shop. So to me it is the best. But I am biased. LOL Thank you for the great question and for supporting the channel.

    I’m doing a small old boat, sanded to 600 , using orange buff, brown compound, and after a few sq/ft the aluminum won’t go shiny and just gets smooth black. What can I try to stop this?

    What metal polish are you recommending? You didn’t use mineral spirits to clean between compounds.

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't need to clean between when using these compounds. I use my Time2Shine aluminum polish. Everything can be found at www.goshineon.com.

    Just curious, I just subscribed, do you polish the back of the tanks when they are on the trucks? Or just the front that people see? Thanks in advance, really learning a lot.👍🇨🇦

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no real point in polishing the backs of tanks on the truck. If we do it is typically for a show truck and those are pulled off for easier access and of course safety reasons. I do not recommended polishing the back of tank while they are still on the truck.

  • @DasSnakeBoy
    @DasSnakeBoy ปีที่แล้ว

    How long does the shine last?

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is hard to say because you have to take in consideration the conditions in which the aluminum will be in for example, weather, roads, the handling of it. It can last several months or it may need touched up with hand polish more often because of those conditions.

    The differences between a “hash mark and a rouge line” is what?

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rouge line is the black line in front of your buff. Hash marks are the friction scratches left behind by the buffer. Hope this makes sense.

    Help! Why can't I get ride of my hash marks

  • @brudman80
    @brudman80 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So, according to what you say, in the video,“If you use less compound, you have less hashmarks“. Right? So if there’s more contact with the wheel that’s doing the work and less compound that’s lubricating the wheel, What is the compound doing? What are “the hashmarks“? This is your learning lesson after two decades of disrespecting me. The term “hashmarks“ is stupid. What you’re talking about is a grade of clarity. This grade of clarity in your video is a number six. Because, there are still lines from the work being done. Number seven is clarity.

  • @brudman80
    @brudman80 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The number between six and seven is the laziness of this generation. In the old generation, there was no distinction between the two because there was no laziness, so get it right! Get back to me in 20 years.

  • @brudman80
    @brudman80 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    lol its kinda funny listening to the terminology. 400- 600 has notjing to do with color or brightness. the SHOW BROWN and regular brown is funny. if chrome platers could see this it would be comedy.

    holy shit i never realisd how far behid the times this is.
    you still palm sand stuff before you start polishing?
    i can attain results with a first cut that out shine this using rotary tools.

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good to hear you’ve got the polishing game down to a science! While some of us are still channeling our inner caveman with palm sandpaper, you’re out here making first cuts that could blind the sun. Keep shining bright!

  • @technetrium
    @technetrium 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    you should be able to cut with a white bar almost and be able to 2 step when rotary sanding proper the absolutel dept and clarity is absoltely not comparable at all.
    palm sanding ruins the survace making it much much hardet to obtain true mirror finishes.

    • @EvanStegerMetalPolishing
      @EvanStegerMetalPolishing  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I personally disagree with this statement but that is the beauty and art of metal polishing. Not everyone gets the same results with the same process. I struggle getting a true mirror finish from buffing over a rotary sanding. But that is just me. I find I get a much deeper reflection and a much truer mirror on the Gloss Meter at a 20, 60 and 85 degree angle tester. But with that said I do see people that only rotary sand and see they get great results as well. It just doesn't work for me. Appreciate the comment and for supporting the channel.
