- After a bit of a weather failure on the day we filmed James May revealing his new car, we regrouped and had another go at filming his first drive in it.
Check out my DriveTribe profile: bit.ly/3e66Dec
And my Instagram: bit.ly/LBinstaDT
The ease with which James stood up after kneeling is the most underrated part of the video.
I'm only just turning 30 and I wouldn't have been able to do it that smooth 😂 ouch
I can get down with sublime smoothness and ease, but............! Loved the Cricket bat and heroin comment!
The relationship you and James have is like that of a single, childless uncle and the slightly outcast niece who's parents don't get her passions but the uncle does and it works really well
😳

Really like these behind the scenes videos. James seems like he would be great to work with.
Agreed! I'm just a little worried about his shaking head and hands. :(
Could be nothing or could be an early sign of some scary things.
@@nvtschip
Where are his head /hands shaking? Timestamp? I don't think anyone else noticed
@@Cloud007. Almost all shots he's in frame you can see subtle side to side shaking. It's quite visible in this video at 3:34 until 3:42.
@@nvtschip
I'm not convinced as he was filmed whilst driving on a bumpy road at the time. Let's hope he's OK of course.
@@nvtschip I thought I was the only one who noticed this. I actually first noticed this months ago in one of his Foodtribe videos from the bunker kitchen. I'm not a doctor, so it may be nothing at all, but still I'm a bit concerned.
What I like about how DriveTribe is developing is that Lucy, Mike et al are gaining confidence and their personalities are starting to shine through. Drive Tribe is fast losing its fawning fandom of the 3 old guys and that's a wonderful thing. The technical quality is also improving and all this is a good sign of things to come.
I agree, it's awesome!
The trio are legends, always will be. And they'll still be the main attraction, but like you said, seeing the others start to shine is awesome. Someone has to pick up the mantle eventually, and I think they'll do a great job in future!
@@ajolillen True. But unfortunately there are still a lot of people who complain directly if James, Jeremy or Richard don't appear in a video. But I think the whole team is doing a great job.
@Sandy LK Actually that is exactly what I said. When Drive Tribe started, there was a lot of fawning over the 3 but it has started to grow beyond that and all the better for it.
@Sandy LK I understand that comprehension may not be everyone's strong point. That's OK.
Lucy's behind the scene videos are brilliant & quite addictive.
I really look forward to them.
Amen. I like the big budget TV magic shenanigans with editing and music that you'd need to pay license for.
But the behind the scenes is something else. Love how chilled out it is. And I love watching the tech. Not just the car itself as a machine. But the fact that it only takes six people and there's drones and types of cameras and microphones and copyright free music that works well and isn't boring.
Back in the day, there'd be 30 people milling about, you'd need to shut down a segment of the road, you'd need tracking cars and cranes and jibs and the behind the scenes would be full of chaos and noise.
Now you've got ambient environment noises, no meed to scream so the mics can pick up the words. I can go on and on. Its awesome.
Yes, it feels almost like she shot those behind scenes in an impromptu manner. It almost feels like eavesdropping onto the shoot.
I really enjoy the chill background tracks. Adds so much to the video.
‘Cricket bats and heroin’ would make a great name for an autobiography/indie band
Is that some game Bob Mortimer played in his youth? Like "Theft and shrubbery"?
The new flower power lol
Could be even used as a name for a pub. Artichoke & head
The old bull & bush
Cricket bats & heroin
It has a ring.
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but you do know, that these are not the type of poppies, from which heroin comes?
Beautiful tramlines from the drone shot. I never knew what a tramline was until I saw another show with someone familiar...
This seems like it was a good day at work. Happy vibes. Made me smile.
My lockdown hair is about the same length as Mr May's, James was a good sport to go along with Lucy's "the poppies are huge" gag :-)
“ give me the clap” my least successful chat up line from back in the day
you made me spray my coffee lmao
Bwahahahahah... GOLD!
Top tier comment
Yet another great video, lucy! Your production quality is fantastic, and you’re an inspiration to us all. Keep up the fantastic work.
I love these videos, nice work Lucy.
Thanks Lucy. Great video.
The entire time I watched the video you shot, I appreciated the drone work, and the camera work. It was so refreshing to see this video explaining it all. So many folks just take things they view at face value and don't appreciate all that goes into the production. Thank you for sharing your efforts with us.
There seems to be really great chemistry between James and Lucy, that kneeling down thing shows some of it! Great stuff here, trying to learn something myself while watching the pro do it.
Lucy's background Music is Stylish & Perfect as usual. Love it
I really enjoy the back scenes and B rolls more than the post edited videos as it is. Mr May seems a lot more relaxed and just speaks his mind and that's gold in itself. Also the backdrop music selection by Lucy is immensely apt for the video footage put up. Looking forward to more of this clips.
Guys you're so good at production, these last vids are pure top gear quality level!
lovely little video Lucy, your looking more relaxed every time, any chance of spoiling us with a couple of extra smiles, you look so good when u smile.
I’ve come across you channel Lucy, through DriveTribe and I absolutely love you’re style of vlogging. I’m going through some of you’re previous ones and I can really see the progression in confidence. Plus the chemistry between you and James is amazing and wholesome. 🙏🏻
“One wheeled tractor” I laughed too hard attempting to visualize
James' hair and beard is awesome! Keep that Captain S.
You and Brian May... COOL!
I commented the same on the main video, but it was just really nice to watch. The scenic shots were fantastic, and that poppy/linseed field is stunning, really great job.
On a related note, if you’re interested, I recently started using the “PictureThis” app to identify flowers and it’s really good. In fact, it was a linseed field I used it in first - I had no idea this is what it would turn out like so I’m going back this evening to see how it is now!
2:35 really seeing James' improv skills. That's awesome lol.
Well done Lucy and crew! Music tracks were on point ,none of the sad TH-cam crap music. Thank You!
‘Cricket Bats and Heroin’ is James's Led Zeppelin cover band
Always enjoy these behind the scenes look. Gives some people a small glimpse of what's involved to bring us what is essentially a 10min car review. Took basically all day!
Keep them coming Lucy!
Nicely produced video, thanks Lucy/James /Mike and others, very enjoyable with lovely scenery and an ending with insightful comments from James, well done!
I love these behind the scenes videos. Btw those tram lines on that field... definitely not jeremys field 😂 😂
Fantastic job as always Lucy! The polish and production value your videos possess is absolutely stunning. Keep up the great work!
Another great job there Lucy, Thank you, I love watching these videos!
I’ve been waiting for this all day since the official video
Absolutely love your channel Lucy, my current favourite. I spend 12 hours a day behind the wheel, and then more time trying to cook decent food!! Drivetribe and Foodtribe feel like the best thing on TH-cam for me, educational, relaxing, entertaining, and just the right level of funny and a bit daft and silly!! Its great to see your confidence in front of the camera grow too. I couldn't do it, but your delivery is very understated, and totally right for what you're doing. Just great stuff. thanks to you, and the team for hours of fun and laughs.
You doing a cracking job Lucy it keep improving. The quality the editing and colouring spot-on. Good luck girl.
Great stuff, I was up at the Trundle a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the video!
James is my favorite because of his light hearted energy.
The drone footage was super smooth, great vid. cheers
The chemistry between Lucy and James is just fantastic to watch. Love these videos!
you do great work. i love james may. seems like it would be a joy to work with him regularly.
Woke up today and saw part 2 of the new Mirai which kinda made my day. The location where you guys filmed in the end was spot on. Nice work!
those drones shots are on point ! lovely !
What beautiful scenery.
thanks James, great film!
Great drone pictures.
Nice work mate. As always.
James going down on both knees to make it look like the flowers are really tall. This guy is going to make a fortune.
More enjoyable than the main video. 🤘🏻
He is definitely changing into Lord Bath with that shirt
your videos are always great, keep up the good work
James May is the most interesting man in the world! He should do the Dos Equis commercials. Love the behind the scenes.
Very enjoyable 🐻👌🏾
James looks more and more like Robert Plant every time I see him!
Lol yeah. The last thing I recall seeing with Robert plant he had that same beard and everything.
Love these videos!
Love this location - wish we could get a close up of that Tower one day :)
Loved the drone shots, LOL I watched the actual Drivetribe video first this time. Would have been good to have a look at the car's fuel cell 'engine' - never seen one before.
Great video
Great production and the behind-the-scenes insights are very educational. Yes, Lucy, do smile more. Supplying music credits would be appreciated
These videos are actually better than the "real" ones. Honestly, most of the fanbase cares much more about the trio than we care about any specific new car, like this Hyundai or whatever. It's a lot more interesting to see James acting like a normal person taking a photo of a flowery field than it is watching him talk professionally about a car we don't care about. We've been saying for at least a decade now that we want more of their real personalities, not the scripted ones.
This even translates into a weird paradoxical feeling that you're becoming more interesting than James as you make videos about something we care about (James) while he makes videos about boring stuff. If that makes any sense...
I second this sentiment.
I care about the cars
The blue flowers are linseed which is the crop growing in the field.. the poppies are weeds in the crop..
This was the first time I watched the final product before the yours, Interesting.. all good .. nice to see some color Enjoy summer
Nice racton ruin money shot! - Good to see my old haunt. Bless ya.
Can't think how many times I've filmed on those roads for cars and M/Cs, but I have to say you've found ways to shoot them that I haven't so congrats! Kind regards John
Very cool bts. Just need a shot of the chase/tracking vehicle, with someone dangling out the trunk/boot/hatch/whateva.
Yeah I love the drone…. Been working w him for years. Can’t wait to borrow that!!!
Lucy your exposing production secrets on the art of non linear insert editing but a great episode!
Thanks Ms Lucy!!! You're the best :-)
I really wish TH-cam created an option to use different length of edits for videos.
So you can can select the video from e.g drive tribe and watch the extended version which already includes more shots. Kinda like a directors cut.
That was actually really good
Whoa Lucy channel subscribers have grown. I think when I joined it was around 1000 or 2000. Lucy is turning into a great presenter.
i love you, lucy and mike from DriveTribe!
Good job!
Did you put together the video on Drive Tribe? If so it was a great watch, very old Top Gear esque
its basically cricket bats and Heroin the man's going to make a fortune lol
😂
James is the friend everyone needs in there life
Any drone tips, or videos of yours you'd suggest? Brilliant videos. Just got a DJI Mini 2, love your filming style and trying to figure it out.
This is a beautiful video
This was beautiful!
I love the fact that James is so nice and polite when there is a lady around who would be quite capable of telling him off if he was naughty 😍😍😍
Another great video Lucy, thank you! Can you explain the purpose of the clap? Is it to adjust sound levels?
Iirc it's too be able to synchronize audio and video during edits
Same as my hybrid... "The sound of Angels" while backing up your electric engined Toyota.
That's either a rough looking James May or a great looking Robert Plant.
Great to see the subscribers at nearly 40K 👍
I like these undiscovered out takes from the old Top Gear series.
lovely roads and drone shots..
Any chance for location as would be cool to take my bike out for ride
"It's basically cricket bats and heroin. The man's gonna make a fortune!" 😂
I always *always* track down the Lucy Brown behind the scenes vids!
Can you please tell us about your filming kit far more interesting than tin boxes on wheels commonly known as cars!!
Great car and James review . Lucy
I lost it at "cricket bats and heroin"
Excellent Vid.
Almost nothing more beautiful than the English countryside in summer.
Now I want James to test drive an one-wheeled tractor in the next video
My wife and I had 5 Guys yesterday. I hope they're as good over there as they are here. Do they get their spuds from Ireland? Ours usually come from Idaho...
Came here and became a subscriber because James said to do it for Lucy
"How's my hair?" Said the Old English Sheep Dog.
James, you're a delight, and I don't care that they call you Captain Slow. 🤣🤣🤣
photography at 5.30 is a compliment to the farmers 'tram lines'
I was all "oh hey Clarksons farm? Ah no, it's too neat" :D
What kind of drone do you use when shooting the drive tribe stuff?
What was the tune” hold up” etc
Hey Lucy, what was the background track?.
Thanks
