I don't know anything about waiting tables. But shouldn't you be shown everything you need to do on your first day? Dealing with customers, setting the table, etc.... Lucy was actually only shown how to use the tap.

Maybe I'm being too sensitive but this felt a bit off. Lucy was taught how pull a pint and then thrown to the dogs, while Rachael was consistently under the chef's supervision. Instead of berating Lucy for her understandably rocky first try as a waitress, Chris should've been chucking some salt into the dishwasher; those glasses were sinful.

I stayed at the Royal Oak last Friday and had an absolutely incredible time. Stunning food, amazing staff and I can assure you that Chris knows how to keep people entertained! Also, loved the artwork on show so much that I bought a piece from the lovely Corrina Cooper! Can’t recommend the Royal Oak enough!
I stayed with Matt and echo what he says. The service is better than most top-end restaurants I've been to. The staff are that rare blend of genuine, warm and knowledgable. They made me feel relaxed in what are exceptional times. The food was fresh, hearty and had a twist of character. I stayed overnight and slept like a log (the fabulous cocktails and wine may have helped). But most of all, I walked away thinking I wouldn't have changed a thing about my stay. It would have been lovely to meet James, but we met plenty of characters anyway! It's a long slog of a drive for me, but I'll be back.
It's almost as if they engineered it that way so people would comment....... In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they made two videos with each in both roles, then decided which made the best for TH-cam. Unfortunately that's how things work these days. Nothing is real.

But serving up starter and main course was a disaster, and given that Rachel was fully supervised in the kitchen that should never have happened.
I think given the mistakes Lucy did an alright job being polite and not throwing anything to the ground. What do you expect with the only training being: this is how you pour a pint.
@@spacechimp3199 What kind of places have you been applying at? You might need to aim lower, as in a cheaper establishment or start as an dishwasher/staff. Maybe take some mixology classes so you can show some papers.
I feel like Lucy got an unfair rap there, waitressing is way harder than just placing a few comestibles ontop of each other with a chef guiding you all the way.
She would've failed anyway because she's not very personable. Plus, Rachel's help was actually working against her (any chef knows not to send out starter and main at the same time, but he encouraged it)

Poor Lucy was left to the dogs on this one. She was told to write the order down but wasn't shown being given a pad and pen. She was only taught how to pull a pint, but expected to provide the correct cutlery. And sent both courses out at the same time, when they were cooked that way to give the kitchen more challenge. It would also be cool to see both of them try this again with real customers.
Actually, Rachel wasn't judged so much as the food was and she had someone with her every step of the way. Lucy had the harder job as the fault even when it is the kitchen lies at the feet of the server. James, don't you dare turf Lucy, she is a great video person.
Can I just say that I really like what the guys have been up to in their time away from cars. Thanks to Amazon and TH-cam they've been able to truly thrive regardless of a global pandemic. Going as far as even shining the light on a new generation and local talent. I truly appreciate how the three of them have used their fame and fortune in these ways.

From the very first second he appeared on the video we knew Rachel was a natural charismatic person. But Lucy, making fun of yourself, mentioning your lack of emotions, was a clever move. You not only proved you have an enchanting smile when you want, but also proved you can thrive as a presenter.
99.9% of the customers IN A PUB wouldn't mind Lucy's work at all and would not complain about the service. Only the f-ing Gordon Ramsay would be such a primadonna...
You'll be surprised how customers are. Getting your starter and main at the same time is indeed a no go, as you want warm food. However Lucy kept asking if everything was Ok and had little/no coaching, for a first time she did really well in my opinion. Also I don't like these kind of bosses/people, although I can understand they only want the best of people.

Stayed overnight at the pub last night for my gf's birthday. The food was top notch, all of the staff were AMAZING and FYI, every glass was spotless! If you get a chance, definitely head down this way for an evening, it is beautiful here 🙂
Rachel was stressing out over a starter and a meal for only a single customer, while supervised, in an otherwise unstaffed kitchen. A fully occupied kitchen at full tilt with a half dozen new orders coming in every few minutes would have her running out.
I feel like Rachel has a huge advantage here. She had the head Chef basically walk her through everything. Lucy got a 30 second primer on pouring from a beer tap, and a few vague suggestions on how to act. It would have been better had the waitstaff actually shadowed her and gave her suggestions on the go, like the Chef did with Rachel. It was a great video none the less. I really enjoy these two.

Lucy, I think you did a fine job. You had only a few minutes training, and the points where you were marked down you weren’t trained or they weren’t your fault.
I assume they are showing how the meals are made more for the camera as, in an actual kitchen half that stuff would be prepped already. You would have already made sauces, cut your cauliflower ect... Unless you want your meal in 45 minutes compared to 20 as in the middle of a busy service you don't have time to be finely slicing stuff for one dish when you have another dozen then need starting 🤷♂️
Congratulations to Rachel and Lucy. I've tried to do both jobs in the past (although I did desserts) and it's not easy. Remember folks this is a bit of fun entertainment. BTW the pub and food are excellent - I can vouch for the grub, service and ambience.
So you don't have anyone teach Lucy about using the right cutlery for each dish, or give her a notebook, yet you hold both of those things against her? While Rachel gets to have constant supervision and basically cooks together with the chef? That's not fair, Chris...And it seems to me like Lucy got the blame for both dishes being served at the same time as well, even though, as Rachel herself admitted, that was her fault. Granted, Lucy did forget Chris's order, but she quickly rectified that by asking him again within 10 seconds. This wasn't at all fair.

The glasses are clean it's the water stains were the dishwasher is low on salt.
It's water stains caused by minerals found in the normal drinking water. Dishwasher probably just needs salt added.

Lucy, I think you did a fine job. You had only a few minutes training, and the points where you were marked down you weren’t trained or they weren’t your fault.
I assume they are showing how the meals are made more for the camera as, in an actual kitchen half that stuff would be prepped already. You would have already made sauces, cut your cauliflower ect...
Unless you want your meal in 45 minutes compared to 20 as in the middle of a busy service you don't have time to be finely slicing stuff for one dish when you have another dozen then need starting 🤷♂️

Congratulations to Rachel and Lucy. I've tried to do both jobs in the past (although I did desserts) and it's not easy. Remember folks this is a bit of fun entertainment. BTW the pub and food are excellent - I can vouch for the grub, service and ambience.

So you don't have anyone teach Lucy about using the right cutlery for each dish, or give her a notebook, yet you hold both of those things against her? While Rachel gets to have constant supervision and basically cooks together with the chef? That's not fair, Chris...And it seems to me like Lucy got the blame for both dishes being served at the same time as well, even though, as Rachel herself admitted, that was her fault. Granted, Lucy did forget Chris's order, but she quickly rectified that by asking him again within 10 seconds. This wasn't at all fair.
James saying "get out of my pub" just feels right
