Exploring Venice with a $50 lens on my camera
A couple weeks before Christmas I kept seeing this $50 lens in an Instagram ad, so I figured I’d give it a go. It uses the lens from a disposable camera, and as an amateur photographer I wanted to see what kind of pictures it could take. To give it the best chance possible I thought I'd go somewhere cool, the cheapest flight I found was to Venice, so I jumped on a plane.

Last week I flew to Paris to experience my first big motor show. Arnold Clark sent me there to film some of the new cars being unveiled which was pretty interesting and slightly terrifying. I got invited to film a car review in Scotland

A few weeks ago I was invited up to Scotland to help Arnold Clark with one of their reviews. It was a crazy 48 hours with a bunch of firsts for me. It was my first time in Glasgow, my first proper car review, the first time I've driven a hybrid, my first hotel fire evacuation and a few others I'm probably forgetting. I had a great time hanging out with the @ArnoldClarkAutos crew, go check out t...

i feel that the DISPO does not look very good compared with the NORMAL shots.
Great job Lucy!
Nice light. Good video too. If you go again or to anyone else - in summer get up super early as in before dawn. Make your way to St. Marks Sq. to arrive as the sun comes up. It should be completely empty apart from the city workers with their twig brooms sweeping. Spectacular! Also local cafe won't treat you like a tourist, they will assume you are local. Just my experience.
Good, enjoyable video 👍
For me Premium Economy is definitely worth the value, and is usually not too expensive. First and Business Class is just exorbitantly expensive. You have to have a LOT of money for it to be worth it consistently, because you are going to be paying more than 10k per flight to get those sorts of seats for longer flights.
Are they only available in America?
Have you considered doing the same thing with a Holga lens with appropriate modifications?
Your video is proof that it is the eye rather than the gear, that determines the artistry of the shot.
looks great for some ICM's
Lovely video, nice commentary and some really nice photos. One suggestion... leave the photos taken on screen for a second or two more so it's easier to see the comparisons, without having to go back and then "Pause" to see them. Really enjoyed this video though, kudos. Got yourself a new Subscriber. :)
21:39 like it
so i have a couple canon dslr's i bought for astro photography and they didnt come with a lens, i have an old pentex k1000 with a couple and with an adapter i can use them on the canon, the problem is that tiny space from the adapter makes it so i cant get perfect focus, its very close and what i saw with your side by sides seems to be what i experienced the lens attached to the lens cap might just be a tiny bit to far or close to the sensor. i doubt its the actual lens cause its probably the same quality on most phones.
Is that Uncle Leo at 0:49 ? 😁😂
you do NOT want to know about the conversation at 21:00 😀. The disposable lens is...better disposed of, the video is lovely. As someone who spent more time in Venice than i can remember i loved to see the city through your eyes, thanks.
The thing for me about Venice is the lack of benches... I got a takeaway pizza from Antico Forno and was walking around for 10 minutes trying to find one... stand up lunch for one
2:12 'very nice treeeeees' 😂😂😂
Just bought business class (first time) from DC to South Korea. I really hope I don’t end it thinking “meh” lol
i think both lenses took some great pictures.. Happy to see your confidence in front of the camera from the early days with may and hammond.. keep up the good work lucy
how wild, I bought the Retropia version of this lens (same thing except f/10 and they offered 51 presets) a few days before this posted. stoked for it to arrive after watching this
Amazing place. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for taking us with you.
Happy new yr to you Lucy Brown
Great job as usual, Thank you!
What is this backpack? I love it So neatly placed the tripod there too
Lucy unleashed. Enjoying it!
Great video, thanks! Cool idea, but I'm not sure about that lens!! Also - the video shots at 5:50 were very, very good. Love the photog style of presentation.
Thank you Lucy. :-)
Always look forward to these vids. Lucy Brown seems so confident and relaxed in front of the camera these days.
I guess being able to do video wizardry that even makes James look good, when left to your own devices the quality is excellent, but then you are an artist.
Lovely film Lucy - and thank you for reminding me how muc( I loved Venice, and Italy in general.
The issue with the disposable lens is you have baked in the vintage look that can’t be removed in post. Fun but not the kind of thing you want to use on a once in a lifetime trip.
Great video, nice to see Venice again, couple of confusions, did you visit Murano or Burano aka Bruno? Murano is best known for colourful glass ware. Also impressed with Spaghetti Ragu instead of Bolognese, mind you, three in 36 hours...
6:09 look up is great advice when exploring. Also even in places you think you already know, there are so many things to discover along places you walked a thousand times before. Maybe not when crossing the road tho. 😂 Great job Lucy, as everyone is saying, you look so comfortable and doing an amazing job.
Great video but that lens is garbage, with all due respect 😂
People have traveled and got pics with much less. What's your punt?
it takes pictures of about the same quality as my old Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera. No wait, my Brownie Hawkeye took better pictures.
Lucy Brown gets five out of five ichiban moto stickers !
03:02 that lens is more than 50$ for sure
Great film. My favourite place on the planet. If you have an A7III, use a lens that makes the most of it.
Loving the Dispo lens images. So much fun to experiment with different/ vintage lenses. Keep up the awesome work 👏
She could show ol James and Jezza a thing or 3
While I'll agree that the disposable lense looks worse; being Gen X it brings back the memories of thousands of disposable pics taken over a lifetime of 80's and 90's early life photography. I dig it.
Luci ✋🤚👻🥳 Luxi Luci Luci Luci 🧸🥰 You are changung every think , i saw james as important and influencel person 🏎 🎡 👼 🍬👫
Lovely tour, think the disposable lens was ok with good lighting but a bit 'pointless', just stick with your main lens. Great having a separate videographer ☺️
Great video Lucy! I’ve travelled a lot in my career but nothing tops Venice which I have been to multiple times. BRAVO!
Liked the normal photos better fwiw.🤟🏻
Brought with you . . . not bought with you. James will be yelling at his screen now . I went to Venice back in the summer of 03 . Was nice but was very hot and smelly. That fog on the canels is steam from the sewers .
It's Lucy Brown!!
What make and model camera do you use. MM lens?
I wish you gave your amazing photos a bit more screen time, especially the comparisons between Dispo and Normal. Thanks for another great video. 👍 /A Dane
It’s always a good day when there’s a new Lucy Brown video! And this one was awesome and engaging as always. Kudos to you and your videographer. The lens comparison was interesting, but yeah, I’d pretty much stick with your usual lens and use some filters. The tour of Venice was lovely. I’m envious!
