thanks for video. can I ask if internal blinds in aluminium doors have any long term effect on the performance of the gas in the glass, ditto for windows with internal blinds thanks again
Hi mate! Awesome video 🙌 I have one question, how do you choose Gasket Seal for aluminium thermal break double glazed windows if manufacturer did not include it?
@oakwoodgardenrooms hi Liam, are window and door extenders needed to enable the correct opening? I’ve double battened and will clad with 18mm cedar but won’t the reveal hit the hinge?
Great video, would there be any benefit to putting a DPM under the sill and up the back of it to act as a dam too? Rather than relying on the silicone?
Very detailed video, enjoyed watching this. On white frame I pencil in T,B, R, L on the glazing bars so I now which way they go back in. Masking tape is useful as well. I would put the top beading in first, that way the glass has some security until the others are fitted. Fitted a lot of aluminium windows last year in my own house, but they came ready glazed, so don't need to mess around with all the locking system. I've started to used the impact driver less now and just prefer using a drill driver which gives more control and over tightening.
Hi mate love your videos keep up good work, one of your viewers from Ireland. Would you be able to tell me where you get the thermnal broken window sill can't source them here in Ireland. Thanks Vincent 👍
Does anyone know how to remove the beads? I need to replace a window. Do you remove the gaskets and pry out from the gasket edge, or pry out from the bead edge? The beads would flex on UPVC window so can’t see how this would work on an aluminium window.
Use a sharp chisel and break the expose parts off then put your angle or flushing whatever you’re going to use to over the gap. Obviously make a notch for the packers and finished
Do upvc windows require the gasket or is that just for aluminium frames? I don’t recall having to put one in on my upvc door. About to move onto the windows.
Love the channel mate, and this is a great video/tutorial. You have framed the windows the same way I do, and I have a quick question (if you've got the time!). In the US it's common practice to put flexible flashing barriers (basically rubber sticky tape!) Around the window reveals and corners. I've almost never seen this done in the UK. Is it something you think is unnecessary or just that we haven't caught up yet?
How do you fit your door and window linings on the inside with the window packers sticking out internally ? I've never fitted windows or doors and this bit is puzzling me as you guys dont plaster upto the window so really would love to see how you go about that bit in a future video :) keep up the great work Oakwood team !
Hi George, From previous vids, fairly certain Liam said he uses a Makita DTD171 Impact Driver & Makita DHP481 Combi Drill :-) I also use both as well & the impact driver is really the mutts (it has 2 Tech Screw modes & 4 different impact level modes). I ordered my DTD171 from Tokyo, Japan on Ebay before they came out in the UK (for half the price they now cost in UK). Got mine in a "Brown" colour rather than Makita "Teal" that way I can easily identify mine out on site. Also bought a couple of thinner Makita 2 amp/hr batteries (BL1820B .... really difficult to get hold of), to make it even more compact & fitted a Makita 12v Impact Driver Belt Clip as original one stuck out below thinner battery ;-) Hope that helps :-)
@@geoffcapesfavouritebudgie7908 HI Geoff, Yep I just type something like "makita dt172 japan" (their latest Impact Driver) into a Google & seach ebay from there. I look for odd colour one's (so for instance previous Makita impact models I got have been Pink & Brown .... that way I know on site, that their mine 😂). AvE ( I think based in Canada), did a comparison of a Japanese market .vs. Everywhere else same impact drivers & he concluded that the Japanese market ones were far superior in attention to detail (better solder joints, build quality, machined .vs. powder metal parts etc.). Also, currently you can get a "Yellow" Makita DT172 Impact Driver that looks at first glance, like a Dewalt 😉 Not too bothered who in Japan I order them from (my last two came from Tokyo), as I find the Japanese super reliable and trustworthy 😃 Hope that helps 😉

I am a professional fenestration engineer. You should not fix through thermal break and depending on system those weep holes on front of window, drains the water away no need to drill cill.
Every google search recommends fixing through thermal break and if you don’t have weep holes where is the water that goes under the frame and into the thermal break going to go? Professional window fitter ?
@@thegardenroomguru mastic like you did, dam side and back and point front window to cill. Depends on system some have gasket at front. I get paid to fit aluminium window systems so yes i a professional.

Brilliant video - have just bought a couple of windows and had no idea how to fit them until I watched this. Really great explanation - thank you!
Fitted two aluminium windows today. Felt incredibly less daunting having watched this video a couple of times. Thanks so much for being so thorough

Thanks again for great content. What happens to the packers.
Usually just cut off what can see and hide behind sealant
Great vid, best explanation i have heard for why and how to heel & toe. Thanks.
I use steel straps screwed to the backside of the frame, this means no screws in sight. Works great if there is finish plastering to be done.
I forgot to mention, straps avoid having to pack the cavity if the new window ends up straddling the gap.
Good video. What do you do with the window reveals? Surely it can’t be efficient to call the plasterer back just for some reveals?
Top job and well informed as usual great as need to build my shed soon ! John from Chichester !
