Ian, your enthusiasm for this bike just makes me want to go out and buy one. It looks a cracking machine totally practical for the abysmal roads we have in this country. Problem I have is I’ve only just bought my current bike (Honda NC750x DCT) so I know I wouldn’t be allowed to have 2 bikes .. well not unless I came up with a cunning plan.. watch this space. Great ride and review in an area I know well.
In the meantime, you could just go and have a play ……… or might that tempt you too much 🤔. I could feel just how much fun it will be when run in, so will be taking it out again for sure 👌
Well it looks like Royal Enfield have pulled another rabbit out of the hat with this, it’s going to be a winner and I can definitely see you being very tempted as you were having a hoot on it, you seemed to be very comfortable with it really quickly, throwing it about in amongst the traffic, I do like the looks, especially in that colour, Go on you know you want one 😂 All the best buddy 👍
Hi Ian. Usual honest opinion. I listened to the condescending rubbish spouted by a certain TH-camr who thinks he's a big time Charlie regarding reviews based on first impressions. What you, the Bingley Wheeler, Mr. TAYM and others provide is an insight into bikes I might want to test ride. Keep up the good work.👍
Nice ride. No nonsense first thoughts & your riding & camerawork gave as good an impression of the bike as is possible without actually riding it. Cheers. 👍
Thanks a lot for your video, rather useful! I'm the owner of a RE Scram 411 and my only complaint is the lack of hp. With this new engine us RE fans will have the best of both worlds. I'm looking forward to buying one as soon as they're available in Colombia. Thanks again mate!
Thank you James. The dealer is good enough to let me out on these bikes, it’s right that I treat them well. The Guerrilla came direct from RE, and was one of the bikes from the launch in Spain, so I could give that a bit of a hiding 😈😎😂 Good to have you with us, I hope you enjoy the content.
There is no doubt RE improve the ride experience with every new model and this Himmy seems to be a huge update on the 1st Gen. The one thing I am not sure about are the looks but not seen one in the flesh so that view may change. I really want to see what they do regards a Classic 650, now that would be a bike I would be interested in. A great video Ian.
Thanks Alex. As I said in the video, the Himi 450 is almost as ugly as the original 😂 Personally, I think the Classic will be a mixture of Classic 350 and Shotgun. Similar forks and nacelle, spoked rims, chrome exhaust (like shotgun). Will be a great seller whatever they do 👍
Nice, I went yesterday to my dealer who had one in stock, only to find all of that town was closed due to local festival, I will have to make another trip soon.
Thanks Syd. I had a look on fleaBay the other day, accessories are beginning to appear, all be it in India. No doubt TEC bike parts and Hitchcock’s will develop “better quality” offerings.
Bloody hell, Ian! We'll done, you've added yet another bike to my list of potentials.... I'm fact, listening to this I'm amazed you didn't buy one of these! 👍
😂. I really was tempted to, but it was just a tad too tall, even with the seat in it’s lowest setting. I find myself on roads whereby the camber is all over the place, so not being able to easily flat foot, really was the deciding factor. Also the price was just that bit too much for me, hence buying the Guerrilla 😎
I had my doubts about this bike but watching this I think it would be ideal for getting to the end of Calum's Road and back, my plans for a Hunter are suddenly in jeopardy! Thanks Ian, a very helpful look at the bike in the real world 👍
Morning Ian 😊 that bus looked a bit close, and then only 10 minutes in the 450 takes you down a different way. What an adventure bike. The only off-roading my 411 as done is going into lay-bys 😊
I understand that Crewe /Cheshire police are currently looking for a rider who has recently taken out a Himalayan on a test ride, but not returned the bike. Any idea Ian who that might be? Great video and bike review for those interested in the Himalayan 450. Ride safe. Bfn Mike .(Wales)
Hi Ian, nice review she certainly seems to be brisk enough & you proved she was a doddle to ride, I like the look of the bike the colour scheme is nice & those gold wheels really suit remind me of the 70s XT Yamaha's. Cheers Baz
Congratulations Ian as I believe this is the first UK review on the very long awaited revised Himalayan,as usual an excellent road test with no punches pulled. Sadly for me I received back my deposit payed last February due to the long delays & delivery set backs as my local RE dealer didn’t really know when the ordered stock would arrive. In the end I went to plan ‘B’ buying a New old stock Honda CB500X that was heavily discounted to move them out of the showrooms making space for its replacement the NX500. I’m happy with the Honda so far & can agree 100% with your findings in the recent review you did. Thanks Ian.
Hi John, unfortunately a couple of other TH-camrs beat me to it, but I was first with the Shotgun so can’t always have my own way 😂. Also, unfortunately, you are not alone. A few others have done the same, and gone for the CB500X or paid the extra for the NX500. It’s such a shame about the delays, you would have thought they would’ve learnt by BSA’s mistake, obviously not. Even now, dealers aren’t 100% sure when customers will get their bikes. Enjoy the CB500X, it is a great bike, and as you say, bargains to be had. Cheers
Thanks for the reply Ian,I’m hoping Crewe M/C will give you more opportunities on the Himmie 450 once it’s broken in as I’m keen to see how it’ll perform on the motorway. Judging by your first impressions I suspect it will be very good.
@johndavy8801 yes, I have an open invitation, anytime I want to go out, it’s there. As you said though, I will wait until it has a few more miles on, then do a stretch on the M6 😎
Great review. I really appreciate your time ,your knack is really appealing. Keep it going. What i like about the bike is its uniqueness as a Royal Enfield, not a knock-off like some manufacturers.
Wow, thanks for that, much appreciated. As you could tell, I was really taken with it, perhaps it’s a good job I don’t have any spare cash in the bank, as I might just have pulled the trigger 😂. For me, it just didn’t have any compromises, unlike some. I look forward to taking it out again, and winding it up a bit 😎. Thanks again.
I went to Royal Einfield in Belgrade (Serbia) and for me is a good bike, great suspension and nice engine, but a heavy bike for a 450....So I took the chinese Kove 510x, take a look 😉✌️.
Hi, thanks for the comment. The Kove has a generic look about it, very similar to the Benelli 502 and 702. I am not keen on all the plastic at the front. I took a Benelli 702 out (see older vid), and although excellent value, it just isn’t for me. Also, at 205kg, the Kove is heavier than the Himi 450. There is a lot of choice out there at the moment, and others are talking about the CFmoto MT450 (175kg, but I think that is a dry weight) as a contender against the Himi.
Thanks, this flickering is all new to me, have to investigate how to sort it. Maybe have to take the Himi out a few more times to try different settings……well that’s a good excuse to take it out again, and again 😂
I can see many Interceptors and Classics being sold or PXed, just hope RE can keep up with demand, the waiting list could be Looooong! Brill review Ian, shame you haven't got the spare cash, Cheers, DINO and Crew. Ps, I am resisting, ...............For now!
Good evening Dino, Panda and furries……I really don’t think I could hang on, though I won’t be selling Clementine. There is a possibility that I might be in a better financial position December/Jan, but will have to wait and see. I too think that the waiting list will be increasing as we speak. Roger has ordered 10, but doesn’t know when they are due. Nice to hear from you as usual, all the best.
@@dinomalta712 I've not ridden one Dino but I sat on one this weekend. I found it a bit of a heave to get it upright from the side stand, much more so than my 411. I don't doubt that it is a good bike and another step up by Royal Enfield in terms of quality and refinement. And I'm sure that Interceptor and Classics owners would think it was a good bike too and appreciate it for the style of bike it is. But I still think my initial comment is a valid one. Take care my friend and safe riding.
@davidrobinson4118 it is a bit of a heave of the side stand, but just don’t notice on the road. As you probably know, I am a proud Classic owner (and ex Interceptor), but want one as a stablemate for Clementine. Bloody superb bike 😎
Morning ABD, as you are the 2nd person to mention the bus, I can’t think of where one pulled out in front of me, where was it ? Or was it at the very beginning, before I pulled out of the carpark ? If so, no bother 😂 Cheers
Hi Ian a real world bike for our UK roads plenty of power for long rides and comfort to ride all day long not to keen on that little screen dont think it is doing much I could be wrong, keep up the good work and ride safe.😊
Thanks Steve. The screen was actually doing quite a good job, sending the wind over my helmet. It was a very blustery day, and was more effective than it looks.
I agree with the previous comment totally. Great video. I watched the bingley wheeler yesterday on his test of that bike. Keep it up Ian, stay safe. Ade
gotta be honest - didn't rate the BR report.. how can ANYONE give a balanced review of an ADV bike without even getting the tyres dirty?. I want a bike that will take me past Turkey and into the 'stans and the (Himalayan) mountains. Not something that goes through the 'dales to a café.
Great review I sat on one on Saturday as worried about the height ? I have a 29” inseam and it felt ok The problem I have is I’ve just changed my 750x dct for a rebel 1100 dct !!! Do I change again 😜 I think my wife will go nuts You have certainly sold it to me 👍
Oh god, please don’t take my word for it, and definitely don’t mention me in the divorce (can’t go through that again 🤔😂). It would be a tad slower than what you are used to, but for playing around on the lanes……worth having it as well 😉😂
It certainly still retains the “purposeful” looks Craig. I can’t say I agree with you about the rear lights though. That said, when the space is there for a normal rear light, it would have been less controversial to just fit one. It is good that RE are trying new things, but I don’t think the rear lights are a hit with everyone. Incidentally, I took it out again yesterday, riding on the motorway, and at faster speeds on other roads to check for the so called vibrations………video should hopefully be out Sunday evening 😉. Cheers
We don't have the RE450 in Canada yet, but it's coming soon. I've already put down a deposit, and I can't wait to get it out on the road. I will definitely be taking it off-road. I plan to make some modifications to make the off-roading a little better. Very excited.
Hey Bud, nice review... I have a question some reviewers have mentioned by installing decat and aftermarket exhaust you can increase power 5-8 HP ...... Is it true???? Edit:- To solve screen flicker set gopro to 30fps...
I honestly haven’t a clue about tuning the 450, but usually by allowing the gases to run more freely, does give slight hp gains. 5-8hp sounds a lot for just a decat and exhaust can though. Maybe a free flow air filter, and power commander/Fuel X to richen the fuel air mixture would give more gains. I would be sceptical until someone produces dyno charts, detailing exactly what work has been carried out.
All reviewers like this bike with very few niggles. I may trade in my little Hunter. I almost bought the original Himalayan but I heard RE were developing this. Must book a test ride. Thank you.
Once again Ian nice review. The screen doesn’t allways flicker on the video. Whether its the way the light hits the TFT screen . Weird. I know Itchie Boots commented on this. 👍
Apparently David, it is something to do with the frame rate settings on the camera. I have been given a few suggestions to try next time out. It is very odd that it hasn’t done it before, on other bikes with similar clocks. At least most of the other reviewers have had the same issue. I did see one short from India, where they had switched the clock face to black, and although it is still there, it isn’t anywhere near as bad. Cheers
Hi Ian, I took one out on Saturday for a test ride , what a cracking bike! I loved it and didn't want to take it back to the shop either ! 😅 I took it over the tops towards Bakewell from Sheffield, it handles beautifully , so neutral the feeling of how it just glides through the curves. And as you say it wants to get moving around 4k revs, but I didn't go above that as it had only done 200 miles, I'd definitely have one but I'd have to get rid of one of my other bikes and that would be an agonising decision, 😬, oh for a lottery win eh! Cheers Mel 🍻
Afternoon Mel, it is rather special, and I am pleased you agreed with me. Simply put, it is sublime ! I look forward to taking it out again with a few more miles on the clock, just to see if I can find the vibrations that some reviewers talk about. I guess you need to start saving up then 🫣😂 Cheers
@melfzs funnily enough, I have sent my CV into a few places. Everything has increased in price, but I can’t up my private pension (not eligible for state pension yet) to cover it all 🤦♂️. I desperately need to get out on Clementine, but I have lost my mojo, despite all the positive support, sometimes it only takes one arsehole to knock my barriers down 😢 Hard to recover sometimes.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I know what you mean mate, I have a private pension as well as my state pension and life's still not easy, I didn't think years ago that I'd be retiring into the financial shitstorm that the world has become , the cost of living has gone mental ! 😢 , Yep there are some arseholes out there but try not to let them in and put mud on your carpets, bollocks to' em ! Keep your head up and make yourself take clementine out , I have my off day's myself (behind my Happy armour) but after a couple of days I just think come on get out for some air . Keep up and at it eh! Cheers Mel
@melfzs thanks Mel. My downers tend to last a few days, before something triggers in my head, and we can get on with it all again 🙄 Next time out, might be just a “catch up” video, so might mention it briefly, along with other stuff. Thanks again.
Brilliant, thank you. Will try that next time out. The anti flicker was set to auto, this is the first time I have encountered any issues like this. Much appreciated.
It seems to me to be a solid workhorse, not the fastest bike on the road but well able to deal with normal motorway speed and will go literally anywhere you may want to go, on good or bad roads, tracks or no roads at all. It may be a bit heavy to ride sporting trials but I'm sure it could handle the terrain.
Well, that was a nice review, Ian; the Himalayan 450's certainly got your juices flowing! 😉The seat adjustment you mentioned varies the height from 825 to 845 mm, though there is a low seat option of 805 mm. The bike's not released yet here in Oz (TBA), but the advance order price is from $8,990 ride away, which is a bargain. Unfortunately, I'm in the same financial boat as you... Plus, the boss might understandably balk at me buying a fifth bike in 26 months! 🤣
Hi Ian. Just to say that the Indian off-road that I’ve seen is way different from the UK green lanes. Bike looked to be ok although the engine would have been a bit tight with the low mileage. Looks great for the UK commute and A & B roads and not too heavy. Nice to see you going down Gresty Road! ⚽️⚽️
That’s very odd 🤔. Have they got one in the showroom ? If so that will be the demo bike, as that’s the strategy RE are taking with this bike. Demo’s out first, then supplying to customers at a later date (much to the annoyance of people who have placed a deposit).
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Nope they haven’t got one in the showroom. I found out since that not all dealers have received bikes as only a few bikes have arrived in the country.
@@wozza59with the war going on, shipping lanes are stressed and RE can't ship through the Suez canal. Hence they have to take the longer route which is costlier and therefore less are being shipped and also they are taking more time. There has been local demand factor too as the wait is slowly increasing as demand increases.
Hi thank you for the review I really like your advice about the bike as I am thinking about getting one great riding amazing bike I have subscribe see you in the next one God bless
Thanks Andy, I can’t wait to get on it again, for another ride. No doubt it will be another long one, or maybe split into two. I will wait until it has had its first service though, just so we can ride it a bit harder. Thanks for the sub, much appreciated.
i enjoyed watching your review. As you say it is important to get an impression of what the bike is like in the UK. I would have liked to have seen how the bike goes in different riding modes and hear what your impressions are. I put a deposit on one back in November, subject to a test ride. I was hoping to have the new bike by the beginning of March. Time passed, I became aware of the Honda NX500 and ended up buying one a couple of weeks ago. I have to say that I am very pleased with it. It has a 471cc twin cylinder engine, no fly by wire and that is a + factor for me. Needless to say, I am very pleased. Nevertheless I am looking forward to trying a Himalayan 452 when they become available at my local dealership.
The CB500X was my no.1 favourite until I rode this. Unfortunately, I didn’t do my homework, so didn’t know it had two riding modes, eco and performance. Next time, yes there will be more rides to come on this, I will do comparisons of the modes. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.
You have me there, I haven’t ridden it at night, in fact I don’t ride at night, due to my aging eyesight. Hopefully you have seen my reply to your comment about vibes. Regarding the headlight, from what I see of other “Adventure” bikes from the mainstream manufacturers, they have more lights than Blackpool on them 😂
Hey Ian I have to say this iteration of the Himalayan is to me streets ahead on the older one as this one has a sleeker look whereas the older one was much more utilitarian, and especially in the black and she seems to go well too now to me the main competitor is the new Triumph 400X in size a little more power looks and price more or less . I get the frustration Ian there are a few bikes I want and can't have and now you have tempted yourself and will have the thought in your mind for a good while is it possible can I do it should I do it how can I do it 😂good one cheers👌👍
Thanks Mal. You could be right about the 400X, though I have not seen one in the flesh, let alone ridden it. I guess the Himi 450 sits between the 400X and the outgoing CB500X, and way less than the new NX500. It is just so easy to ride, at any speed. There may be a slim possibility that I could get one in December or early next year. Might be some used ones available by then too 🤔😉😂
@@ianhughesroyalenfield My thoughts would be the same give it a good few months and see how they fair and maybe save some pennies on a used one makes good sense to me 😉👌👍
Good evening Nigel. I didn’t notice any vibes at the speeds I was doing, but I was taking care not to rev it too much as it was new. I do look forward to riding it again, when it has more miles on it, as I want to test it at motorway speeds. I have also watched reviews where they mention these vibrations, so will be interested to see if I can find them too. Sorry not to be more help at the moment. Cheers
It looks a lovely bike, that colour scheme is excellent, if I didn't have my old faithful 2014 Vstrom 650 I would definitely get one of these Himmi's, Enfield are doing my head in lately, I want one of everything they're bringing out ,they're a bloody torment! 😅😅
@melfzs definitely Mel. When I told my dad about it yesterday, and said I wanted one, he said “yes, until Royal Enfield bring something else out”, and he is probably right 😂
You've got me excited now!! I think it looks great. The bike suits you too, but please don't get rid of Clementine !! Great review, are you getting commission from Roger??!! 😂
Hi Peter. Clementine is safe, don't worry about that. We think the Himi 450 suits me too 🙄😂. No commission off Roger, but he does let me be the first out on these lovely bikes, and let's me take them out again on longer rides too. Cheers
@hikerbikerallnightcamper1393 ah well, the Classic is very similar to the 411, in it is a relaxed plodder, no particular rush to get anywhere, but will get a bit of a wriggle on when asked. The Himi 450 just wants to get on with it, quite revvy, but with nice usable mid range torque. I sincerely suggest trying one out, especially as you own the 411, then come back and tell me what you think 😉
Good evening Ian, so you plainly enjoyed your experience on the 452? As did I, and if I didn't have Blizzard, I'd go for one straight away but as things are, I just can't justify it, so I just refuse to let myself get too excited. Regarding the bars, I did find them lower than those on the 411, until I remembered that at 6' 3" I found it useful to fit bar risers, so I'm fairly certain I'd fit risers to the 452. You're dead right about that little screen, it's obviously been designed to slice through the air and it works very well. It is indeed a marvellous bike and I can see that at some point in the not too distant future, there'll be one in the man-cave. (but don't tell Blizzard!) As always a good insightful video Ian, thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks Martin. I genuinely couldn’t hold the excitement back. You just know when something hits the spot, and this definitely hit the spot with me. Obviously I should have mentioned that standing up bar/feet relationship would be different depending on rider height, but by that point, my brain was completely fuddled 🫣😂 Cheers
Thanks, yes we know that now, but we weren’t aware of it when I first took it out. On the second outing it is recorded at 50fps, the flickering is much improved, though it does just go dark occasionally. I have also taken the Guerrilla 450 out since, also recorded at 50fps, but changed the screen to dark mode. The result is even better, as for the majority of the time the viewer just sees a blank screen.
It seems to be a well thought out bike and a big step up from the previous somewhat agricultural Himarlia-layan 😁. Maybe the bike that you were looking for, for covering longer distances.
Hi Ian regarding anti flicker 50 Hz setting is that on the camera or the computer editing software....I can't seem to see that option on my GoPro 7......maybe some editing software could get rid of it but thats a bit past my skill level I just watched Bennett's bike social review in India and their flickering was just the same 😆😂....so even the big names are having this issue ....never had it on any other bike ...must just be the new Himalayan screen Best wishes mark
Hi Mark, thanks for commenting, much appreciated. I have a DJI Osmo Action 3, and following what some had said in my comments, I had a look at the in camera settings. There is one for “anti flicker”, mine being set to auto, but options for 50 and 65 Hz. I will try 50 next time I ride it, as I will definitely be doing so 😉. I think the screen has taken us all by surprise. Bingley wheeler had a bit of flickering, but it was a dull day, don’t know if that makes a difference or he was lucky 😅. I did see a short from India, they had the screen in “black” mode, and although it was flickering, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as when in white mode. Once again, thank you.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield thanks Ian ok maybe my oldish GoPro doesn't have it then ....yes saw the bingley wheeler's review.....you maybe right about the brightness of the day because some parts of my review it isn't flickering at all ....oh well at least it isn't just me 😂 I think there is going to be an awful lot of flickering reviews on the new Himalayan Mark :)
@markpulling12 😂 yes indeed. When I returned to the shop after my ride, I checked I had footage and audio by linking the camera to my iPad, imagine my horror to see the flickering, but I just didn’t know the reason then, otherwise I might have tried going out again (any excuse 😉😂). I noticed another vid on the Himi, a lady rider, she also has the same. Love your vids, my go to for info. All the best.
@markpulling12 we are away at the moment, so away from my pc and favoured Davinci Resolve 18. Upon our return,no might see if there is any way to “resolve” the flicker in editing, not for this video, but for future reference.
i was typing a comment about the speedo and then you addressed it. for content creators, that would be horrible! wondering if a screen could be put over it to make it stop? anyways, i will type as i watch like normal
@@ianhughesroyalenfield It will be a frame rate issue, Ian. Going faster or slower on the shutter speed should cure it. If the refresh rate of the LCD dash is close to the fps of the camera, pulsing is inevitable. A superior bike to old Himalayan undoubtedly, if perhaps missing its homespun character.
Thank you. I watched a TH-cam video about preventing flickering. It suggested using odd number frame rates, I as probably most people, use even numbers, mainly 30fps for me. I have changed mine to 50fps now, as with these LCD Speedo's you just don't know how it will react. I noticed that Mark Pulling has had the same problem, I believe he uses a go pro.
I really don’t have a clue, but I looked at this video about the accessories available, the chap has some clear footage around the headlight at 2 minutes in, th-cam.com/video/htGVu7ebVsk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QFCEV4BQC7Pj1NE1 it all looks fairly standard fitment, but obviously a trip to a dealer, armed with a tape measure would be the way to go 😉 Sorry I can’t be of any more use.
Like a lot of people looking at this bike I'm a "mature" rider who wants a relatively light and comfortable travel bike for one person plus luggage. This and the cf moto 450MT when it arrives are currently top of the shortlist. Not bothered about off road but the capability to do a bit as & when is well worth having...
Just like me then. I am nearly 62, still like to get a wriggle on down the lanes, which this provides. The CFmoto looks a good proposition, but I think it is quite a tall bike. I was really keen to get this Himi out on the lanes, as there are loads of vids of it off road. As you can probably tell, I was impressed. Cheers
The weight of the bike really helps when it windy it’s more stable ,I recon if you can pick the bike up you can’t go wrong bang for buck ,jimmy Australia we will test this new sherpa engine out on our thousands and thousands of dirt roads we have hear besides the black top
I think you are correct. I watched Mark Pullin’s video, he goes into quite a bit of detail. There are two power settings too, eco and performance. Made me wonder which setting this was in, because it certainly went well 😊
Not the one I took on the motorway last week, and I went slightly beyond 😉 It cruised happily at 70, with only the very slightest of tingles through the bars, which weren’t worth mentioning, but I am honest with my reviews, say it as I find it. th-cam.com/video/d0CTpwLbuvc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=04xUtVAmi2jqDdDz
Hi Ian, working through the long vid in stages, I am up to walk around and will watch the rest later but just had to tell you I was watching while exercising on the spin bike and found myself stop peddling when that guy pulled out in front of you , clearly concentrating far too hard while breathing out of my backside 🤣🤣🤣I rarely if ever watch the so called "big channels" so no idea who you talking about but they got a real cheek, they survive on the goodwill of the brands and they ain't going to slate any products.
Good evening Alex. Near misses are the norm nowadays, barely registered 😎. Know what you are saying about the biggies, you’d know the chap, certainly heard of him. The best bit for me is after the walk around 😊 Cheers
I think you are wrong…..valve check at 6000 miles then 12000 miles then every 12000 miles after that. After the initial 311 mile first service, the next oil change is at 6000 miles, or annually like any other modern motorcycle. That’s what I found on good old google😉
I think it is a case of watch this space, I can guess RE have many models planned around this platform, as with the others. We already know there is a Scram in the pipeline, so maybe a 450 Hunter would be a possibility too. Oh, and no, I didn’t do any off road, jumps or other shenanigans, it was too new. There are plenty of other reviews out there who have though 🫣😂 Cheers
This is so strange there was no comments by me & then I just did the computer mind games comment & noticed the comments from other day? 🤔🤔 Definitely Computer mind games.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Can you see those comments from other day at your end Ian? Yeah they weren't there so I left another new comment & after that they reappeared at my end. Computer mind games glitching out since the 80's & they want to give computers more power & control & A.I not a good idea I reckon.
Don’t know, I didn’t (my old knackered bones wouldn’t appreciate that behaviour 🙄😂), but a quick search on TH-cam and you will find people riding off road 👍
Will Someone actually go out there and ride roads like you get in India? Get the tyres dirty, tell us how the suspension copes with rebound and how stable the frame is over rutted ground. Or, am I wrong? Does everyone only ride their ADV bikes to Costa?
If you have a look on TH-cam, it is full of reviews on the rough stuff, but very few on lanes that I would be riding on, as can be seen in this video. This review, was as much for my benefit as anyone else's, as I am looking for something like this, and I don't do green lanes. I wouldn't have taken it off road, as it is a brand new bike, which doesn't belong to me.
A quick TH-cam search found this……. th-cam.com/video/n9nmOGvI9J4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uFZH6hNWELzdUMpD ok it’s not in the UK, but it might help you find the answers.
Great review but such a shame it managed to completely rule it out for me. The deal breaker is this stupid new idea of doing away with a back light. I would never buy a bike without a proper tail light.
You are not the only person concerned about this new design. I do get it, though it would be interesting to be behind it in a car or on a bike, just to see how visible they are. It’s a cracking bike though, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a standard type rear light / indicator arrangement become available as an accessory at some point. Thanks for the comment.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield You only have to follow a modern car with an led cluster doing brake light, indicator and tail light to see that when the brake lights are on then the indicator virtually disappears. That is dangerous enough in a car let alone on a bike where we need all the visibility we can get.
The screen is like that because the frame rate of both the camera and screen are close to each other or same. Our eyes cannot perceive that since human brain process image in a continuous stream.
"It's taking me down lanes I haven't been in years" hmm, right , next you'll be saying you will have to take home to clean it, for a few weeks. The angle of the side stand looks a bit iffy on uneven ground, may need a remedy to suit the task. Your roads are a bit dodgy mate, down here in the land of Oz , we call em, Goat tracks. Love is a many splendid thing, that's if you can afford it, Clementine is going to have to give you a jolly thrashing. Cheers.
😂 John……I could try that tack with Roger, but I don’t think he will buy into it 😂. Goat tracks are a good description of our roads 🫣. The bike does lean over a fair bit on the side stand, but has a good foot on it. Clementine isn’t in any danger, she fits into the van easily, the Himi would be another story.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Thanks mate, I thought young Clementine was safe, your last video, when you went to Bridge, sorry forgot the name, but she is really running sweet now, lots of miles on the horizon, over here we don't the same riding environment of lanes and beautiful little villages, I used to go bush, on the old Kawasaki KLR 650, lots of fun, falling off doing those dumb things, got it right in the end, I really miss that, now all I would like is a Classic 350, to pottle about on , back roads and out of the way places , no hurry , no bother , just enjoy it. Thanks for your time, Ian.
Your enthusiasm and joy on riding this machine is contagious Ian , Maybe you should start a "Go Fund Me" , or whatever it is called , page to finance a Himalayan 450 for "Ian Hughes Adventure ride outs" With the number of subscribers you have , I doubt it would take long to achieve. Heck , If 6k of us subscribers threw in a 1 pound each it would be a done deal !! I would be happy to contribute a few quid. 👍☺
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I was reading 2.13k as 213,000 !! 😂, OK then 2000 Subscribers at 3 pounds each 👍, Still do able and well worth it for the quality of the content😊
@LifetimeBiker 😂 I fear I will struggle to get to 5k subs let alone that heady figure 😂. I might look into a go fund me, though I am sure there will be tax implications somewhere 🫣🙄😂
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Yes , Don`t know about the tax side , I mentioned it because another YT`er I watch just did a online funding thing for their band to finance the cost of a new album , They were totally amazed and thrilled to achieve their target in less than 48hrs. People can be awesome sometimes. 👍🤞
@LifetimeBiker funnily enough, I was just watching vids on this subject. Getting bands up a running, or money for victims of crime etc, is acceptable, however buying a vehicle may not be accepted by people quite as willingly. In fact it may do more harm than good ! “Buy me a coffee” might be a better option 😉or me actually coming out of retirement for a while might be a possibility 😂
Allowed? 🙁
I am also currently riding an NC750x DCT and if I was looking to replace it this bike would certainly temp me.
It's a great bike, but obviously not as quick as the 750. I will report back at some point to see what it's motorway manners are like. Cheers
Thanks Mike. Yes, so easy to ride. Very neutral handling……and yes, I want one 😂
Keep up the good work.👍
Thank so much Simon, much appreciated.
Ps, you really need to take one of these out 😉
@@ianhughesroyalenfield . I'm really tempted.
Damn. I only found decent reviews of this bike.
There is a perfectly good reason for that……..😂 I found it to be sooooo good 😊 Cheers
Nice ride. No nonsense first thoughts & your riding & camerawork gave as good an impression of the bike as is possible without actually riding it.
Cheers. 👍
Thank you for the compliment. What you described, is exactly what I try to portray in all my ride vids. 😎
@@ianhughesroyalenfield mission accomplished.
Thanks a lot for your video, rather useful! I'm the owner of a RE Scram 411 and my only complaint is the lack of hp. With this new engine us RE fans will have the best of both worlds. I'm looking forward to buying one as soon as they're available in Colombia. Thanks again mate!
Thanks for this lovely comment. You are going to have some real fun on the Himi 450. Hopefully it won’t be too long but you get one.
Those roads are perfect for running in a bike. You’re doing a good job for the future owner. Liked and subscribed!
Excellent ride out on another lovely motorcycle! I bet you are saving the pennies for one of your own as I type this!😊
Loved it Steven, need to ride it a few more times, especially after first service 😈😂
There is no doubt RE improve the ride experience with every new model and this Himmy seems to be a huge update on the 1st
Gen.
Will be a great seller whatever they do 👍
Nice one Ian, great looking bike....
It truly is Henry, cheers
Just want to say, well done. Soooo many people comment on those rear lights in their videos. You are the only one who has actually showed them!
Thank you 👍
Nice, I went yesterday to my dealer who had one in stock, only to find all of that town was closed due to local festival, I will have to make another trip soon.
That’s a shame, definitely worth a ride on one.
done and dusted and in the books for 54 min while i cooked dinner and it sounds like you love it and enjoyed what it offers. nice review.
Thanks Blake. I didn’t time it, but editing from start to finish, was about 7 hours I think 🤔, then that bloody speedo flicker spoilt it 😢
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Itchy Boots had exactly the same problem so it’s not only you.
Good honest review Ian, thanks, would like to see what accessories you can put on the bike.
Thanks Syd. I had a look on fleaBay the other day, accessories are beginning to appear, all be it in India. No doubt TEC bike parts and Hitchcock’s will develop “better quality” offerings.
Exactly. An on Road test where I would be riding it 99 percent of the time. thank you!
Glad you found it useful. Thank you.
@ianhughesroyalenfield you're around 5'10, right?
@EyeDeal_666 5ft 9” 31” inside leg, but wearing winter motorcycle gear restricts the leg length weirdly 😂
@ianhughesroyalenfield So ride in summer, short-arse! 😘

I had my doubts about this bike but watching this I think it would be ideal for getting to the end of Calum's Road and back, my plans for a Hunter are suddenly in jeopardy! Thanks Ian, a very helpful look at the bike in the real world 👍
Thanks Mick, ideal for that road, brilliant bike.
Just noticed a lot of reviews of these bikes on YT all of a sudden. I picked yours first 😉
I feel honoured Jonathan 😀, get the long one out of the way first 😂 Cheers
Morning Ian 😊 that bus looked a bit close, and then only 10 minutes in the 450 takes you down a different way. What an adventure bike. The only off-roading my 411 as done is going into lay-bys 😊

I understand that Crewe /Cheshire police are currently looking for a rider who has recently taken out a Himalayan on a test ride, but not returned the bike. Any idea Ian who that might be? Great video and bike review for those interested in the Himalayan 450. Ride safe. Bfn Mike .(Wales)
Thanks Mike ……. it wasn’t me, honest guv 🫣😂
Hi Ian, nice review she certainly seems to be brisk enough & you proved she was a doddle to ride, I like the look of the bike the colour scheme is nice & those gold wheels really suit remind me of the 70s XT Yamaha's.
Cheers
Baz
Thanks Baz. I think I mentioned about the gold rims/XT similarities in the walk round vid I did, bloody gorgeous 😎
Thanks Ian.
John I am sure a lot of folks were disappointed by the long delays and RE have lost sales to Triumph and Honda as a result.
Nice one Ian, I’m definitely considering one. I already have a Himalayan to exchange. 53:39
You definitely need to get your bum on one Paul, so smooth in every way when compared to the 411. A fun bike 😎 Cheers
Well done for putting her on the centre stand always good to see how easy it is, and the 411 is exactly the same, bloody pillion foot peg 😅
😂, yes it is a bit in the way.
Strangely at around 39:17 the flickering seems to stop. Sounds like you like the bike though.
@@toomuchjam Thanks. That's what I suspected but wasn't sure about.
Thanks, this flickering is all new to me, have to investigate how to sort it. Maybe have to take the Himi out a few more times to try different settings……well that’s a good excuse to take it out again, and again 😂
I test rode one yesterday, and l thought it was outstanding. My local dealer has sold 6 in 2 days based on demo rides.
I am not surprised Mark, it's fantastic. I am hoping to be able to go for one in December/January 🤞 Cheers
I was going to demo the 400X, but l don't think l'll bother l'm that convinced!
If it was me Mark, I would still have a go on the Triumph if you have the chance to do so. 🫣🤔😊
Mmm, can't see why many Interceptor or Classics owners would rush out and change as those bikes appeal to a different mindset.
@@davidrobinson4118 WHEN U GET to Ride one, u will see!
Nice one Ian, glad that bus didn’t collect you pulling out
Morning ABD, as you are the 2nd person to mention the bus, I can’t think of where one pulled out in front of me, where was it ?
Ade
Thanks Ade, so pleased you enjoyed it, and hopefully didn’t find it tedious to watch. Cheers
gotta be honest - didn't rate the BR report.. how can ANYONE give a balanced review of an ADV bike without even getting the tyres dirty?. I want a bike that will take me past Turkey and into the 'stans and the (Himalayan) mountains. Not something that goes through the 'dales to a café.
@CosmicSeeker69 go and try one for yourself. I doubt the dealer would be happy if you did that on his brand new bike, but hey what do I know.

You have certainly sold it to me 👍
Oh god, please don’t take my word for it, and definitely don’t mention me in the divorce (can’t go through that again 🤔😂). It would be a tad slower than what you are used to, but for playing around on the lanes……worth having it as well 😉😂

@johndenyer6281 if you do get out on one, come back and tell me what you think 😉
I will do
Probably be in a couple of weeks
But I will get it booked

Major thing I like about this bike is the looks. Rear brake light set up is confusing for traffic behind.
You have every reason to be excited, it’s a great bike 😎
Can,t say more than that, very positive review.
It’s a cracking bike Paul 👍
All reviewers like this bike with very few niggles. I may trade in my little Hunter. I almost bought the original Himalayan but I heard RE were developing this. Must book a test ride. Thank you.
Definitely need to take one out, it blew me away (as you can probably tell 😂). It is so much better than the 411. Cheers
And as you say it wants to get moving around 4k revs, but I didn't go above that as it had only done 200 miles,
I'd definitely have one but I'd have to get rid of one of my other bikes and that would be an agonising decision, 😬, oh for a lottery win eh!

You can change the camera antiflickering settings to 50 hz to stop flickering issue
Many very happy owners out there will agree with you. 👍
Hi Ian. Just to say that the Indian off-road that I’ve seen is way different from the UK green lanes. Bike looked to be ok although the engine would have been a bit tight with the low mileage. Looks great for the UK commute and A & B roads and not too heavy. Nice to see you going down Gresty Road! ⚽️⚽️
Thank you. It is so long since I had been down Gresty road, I genuinely didn't know where I was 😂 Cheers
I find it incredible that Preston Motorcycles haven't got a test bike, but some of the smaller dealerships have.
@wozza59 well that’s a bugger. What about Robinsons of Rochdale ? I appreciate it means a drive but have they got a demo ?
@@wozza59with the war going on, shipping lanes are stressed and RE can't ship through the Suez canal.

The front light is a bit week for night riding you need more lights on the front

Quite a few reviewers of this bike have mentioned the vibes at speed; was that a problem for you?
Good evening Nigel. I didn’t notice any vibes at the speeds I was doing, but I was taking care not to rev it too much as it was new. I do look forward to riding it again, when it has more miles on it, as I want to test it at motorway speeds. I have also watched reviews where they mention these vibrations, so will be interested to see if I can find them too. Sorry not to be more help at the moment. Cheers

Hi Peter. Clementine is safe, don't worry about that. We think the Himi 450 suits me too 🙄😂. No commission off Roger, but he does let me be the first out on these lovely bikes, and let's me take them out again on longer rides too. Cheers
Hi Ian, what do you prefer the classic 350 or the new Himalayan 🤔
Hmm, unfair question as both are completely different, and I love Clementine, my Classic 350. So, on the fence here, but I will have both please 😂
😂 I only ask as I have the Himalayan 411 but fancy an another and both look very appealing.
Sounds like a plan Ian. Many thanks 👍🏻
@hikerbikerallnightcamper1393 anytime. 👍. I think you might be surprised 😮😉
(but don't tell Blizzard!)
As always a good insightful video Ian, thanks for sharing.
Change the antiflickering settings to 50hz or 25fps. It wlill stop screen flickering issue
Definitely Gap, it’s bloody brilliant, full stop . 😊
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I think that you have good judgement.......
Hi Ian regarding anti flicker 50 Hz setting is that on the camera or the computer editing software....I can't seem to see that option on my GoPro 7......maybe some editing software could get rid of it but thats a bit past my skill level I just watched Bennett's bike social review in India and their flickering was just the same 😆😂....so even the big names are having this issue ....never had it on any other bike ...must just be the new Himalayan screen
Best wishes mark
@@ianhughesroyalenfield thanks Ian ok maybe my oldish GoPro doesn't have it then ....yes saw the bingley wheeler's review.....you maybe right about the brightness of the day because some parts of my review it isn't flickering at all ....oh well at least it isn't just me 😂
I think there is going to be an awful lot of flickering reviews on the new Himalayan
Mark :)
@@ianhughesroyalenfield thanks Ian ....yes I had that horror feeling too at the end when I watched mine on the little GoPro screen 😂
Also explained in description.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I will be honest. I never read the bucket. Lol
That the one thing I’m not keen on is combining rear light with indicators for traffic behind ??
Time will tell on that one. I think it looks cool 😎, but also understand your fears.
Stupid question maybe... Can the headlight be replaced with an aftermarket standard 7 inches or so?
I really don’t have a clue, but I looked at this video about the accessories available, the chap has some clear footage around the headlight at 2 minutes in, th-cam.com/video/htGVu7ebVsk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QFCEV4BQC7Pj1NE1 it all looks fairly standard fitment, but obviously a trip to a dealer, armed with a tape measure would be the way to go 😉 Sorry I can’t be of any more use.
This should be good for the potholes you encounter 😄👍
😂 indeed. A perfect weapon for our roads. Cheers
@@ianhughesroyalenfield thank you…nice video👍
Sounds like a plan, you will have loads of fun 👍😎
I think you can turn of the rear only on the ABS
I think you are correct. I watched Mark Pullin’s video, he goes into quite a bit of detail. There are two power settings too, eco and performance. Made me wonder which setting this was in, because it certainly went well 😊
The vibs come on the motorway at 60-70 mph
I was going to buy one but oil change and valve check every 3k miles. $400 + usd
I think you are wrong…..valve check at 6000 miles then 12000 miles then every 12000 miles after that. After the initial 311 mile first service, the next oil change is at 6000 miles, or annually like any other modern motorcycle. That’s what I found on good old google😉
This engine should be in the Hunter…that’d be awesome
I think it is a case of watch this space, I can guess RE have many models planned around this platform, as with the others. We already know there is a Scram in the pipeline, so maybe a 450 Hunter would be a possibility too. Oh, and no, I didn’t do any off road, jumps or other shenanigans, it was too new. There are plenty of other reviews out there who have though 🫣😂 Cheers
Do you want one , I know how you feel and I haven’t even had a go and the black and yellow your on is gorgeous 😊
I do Donna, are you going to buy me one ? Black and Gold please 😂
I don't know what happened to comments Ian Computer mind games I guess it happens occasionally.
This is so strange there was no comments by me & then I just did the computer mind games comment & noticed the comments from other day?
🤔🤔 Definitely Computer mind games.
Very strange mate 🤔
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Can you see those comments from other day at your end Ian?
Yeah they weren't there so I left another new comment & after that they reappeared at my end.
Computer mind games glitching out since the 80's & they want to give computers more power & control & A.I not a good idea I reckon.
@@ruahinesriderno, not showing on here 😢
Does she do jumps ok?
Don’t know, I didn’t (my old knackered bones wouldn’t appreciate that behaviour 🙄😂), but a quick search on TH-cam and you will find people riding off road 👍
@@ianhughesroyalenfield lol…thank you…loved the review👍
UK roads? What do you mean?
😂 sorry, main trails 😕
Nathan Millward has one on order and will be having it on the green lanes in north Devon in a couple of weeks
@yellownev I look forward to watching that, thanks for the heads up 👍
Great review but such a shame it managed to completely rule it out for me.
@Grumpy-Goblin yup.
The screen is like that because the frame rate of both the camera and screen are close to each other or same. Our eyes cannot perceive that since human brain process image in a continuous stream.
Thank you. I am a bit dim when it comes to things like this. Nice explanation, I am always learning, so appreciate the comment.
"It's taking me down lanes I haven't been in years" hmm, right , next you'll be saying you will have to take home to
clean it, for a few weeks. The angle of the side stand looks a bit iffy on uneven ground, may need a remedy to suit
the task. Your roads are a bit dodgy mate, down here in the land of Oz , we call em, Goat tracks. Love is a many splendid
thing, that's if you can afford it, Clementine is going to have to give you a jolly thrashing.
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Thanks mate, I thought young Clementine was safe, your last video, when you went
to Bridge, sorry forgot the name, but she is really running sweet now, lots of miles on the horizon, over here we
don't the same riding environment of lanes and beautiful little villages, I used to go bush, on the old Kawasaki
KLR 650, lots of fun, falling off doing those dumb things, got it right in the end, I really miss that, now all I
would like is a Classic 350, to pottle about on , back roads and out of the way places , no hurry , no bother ,
just enjoy it. Thanks for your time, Ian.
The Classic 350 is the perfect chill bike John, but can get a bit of a wriggle on if asked. I think you need a “Clementine” in your life 😊
Young centipede: mum, can I stay up for the football?
Sorry love, not on a school night.
No school tomorrow. It's an insect day!
Random….but funny 🤣
Oh heck, it looks like you will have to sell a kidney. You are clearly smitten with the new Himalayan, so you must get the deposit money somehow🤣
🤔 Funniy enough Paul, I asked Ann how much she thought my kidneys are worth 😂. The deposit isn’t the problem, the rest of it is 😢😂
When I get mine it will be taken off road as much as possible
Jolly good 👍
What about Clementine 😪😪
Oh no, she is staying with us. Couldn’t let her go 😉
first
Looks like a hit.
Certainly is with me 😊
The purists will have to look after their old bikes as they will not make any more now
Yes indeed. RE are moving on, being forced to by bloody emissions rules 😪
Your enthusiasm and joy on riding this machine is contagious Ian ,
Maybe you should start a "Go Fund Me" , or whatever it is called , page to finance a Himalayan 450 for "Ian Hughes Adventure ride outs"
With the number of subscribers you have , I doubt it would take long to achieve.
Heck , If 6k of us subscribers threw in a 1 pound each it would be a done deal !!
I would be happy to contribute a few quid. 👍☺
That’s very nice of you to say/suggest. If I had 6k subs, it might be worth a try 😂
