I rode a hire 411 through the Himalayans for 2 weeks and it was perfect for those conditions. However you rarely did more than 80kmh (50mph). I felt it needed more top end for Australian highways. So I jumped into the 450 when it was released. Still cheap compared to a KLR or Tenere. Loving my 450. Using it 50% offroad/road.
@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA True. I rode the 411 for a short ride when they were first released and didn't rate them. However, after riding one in India on holidays with all harsh treatment it took, I had an new appreciation of these little mountain goats. 2nd hand 411s are dirt cheap, indestructible, easy to ride, and comfortable. I just need a bit more at the top end to be able to overtake road trains (really long, multi trailer trucks).
I have a May issue 23' model, bought it new and I love it, no wont ever be buying a water cooled bike, or the sherpa version, we get lots of bush riding here in OZ, plus I live in the bush, max speeds on the hwy's out here are 60mph, The bike does that no problems, but I sit on 50-55 mostly, I'm old so no need for speed anymore. Cheers good vid.
I'm in total agreement in buying a used 411 over the 450. All the bugs are worked out, and a simple riding platform to chug-a-lug off road. Plus you cannot argue about the price and accessories you get! It's a major bang for your buck! Loved the video and conversation as you outlined the benefits of buying used. I think the trade off of a little less power and tech isn't a bad thing. Keep riding and stay safe ABUSA!
I totally get where you're coming from. Had my BMW R80 Airhead I got new in 1989, simple, air cooled, fun to ride, rugged and reliable, cheap to run and maintain, still going strong with 177,000 miles on the clock. It does everything I need. The older Himalayans are real popular where I live, tempted to get one for daily use and exploring the many forest tracks where I live.

@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA probably a toss up between the power, suspension and value for money. At just over $9k AUS in Perth Western Australia, the 450 is an awesome bike for that money.
totally agree with you mate !. the simple 411 is like a small brother with minimum fuss and is happy taking you where ever you want to go. Remember John, Garfield and Odie ? its the perfect Odie to me and my partner.
I bought a 411 new in 2019, it's got about 13000 miles on it and I still.love riding it. Not tempted to sell and buy the 450. Simplicity is best attribute
You make a lot of sense and I love your enthusiasm, when you say look at that guy 😂 it's a proven and tested piece of kit. At 65 it's the kind of bike that's very capable. Great vlog. And you can service it yourself.❤
Don't forget though although the Sherpa engine is RE's first liquid cooled bike, the Himalayan 411 engine was RE's first overhead cam engine! I have a 411 with 20K miles on the clock with few problems. Could do with a bit more power and a quieter engine though. Apart from that all good
Taken your advice! I just bought an immaculate 2022 Himalayan, blue and white, 8k miles, service history and all the accessories I would want, for a crazy price, the equivalent of $2500 US dollars.
Yeah, the 411 is more tried and true. Water cooling might get you better performance, but it is an extra 100 parts to break. The 411 is simple and works. As long as you don't need to go 75+. I rode mine at 70 for almost 2 hours on a 95° day and it didn't complain in the least. At that speed it wasn't crazy comfortable, but it will do it
Only 4,000 miles? I did that in my first month of owning my 2023. But, I also bought it new in Marne, Iowa and rode it to Oaxaca, Mexico. I have over 11,000 miles on it now, and I'm still in Mexico. My Himalayan has seen all kinds of roads here, including a trip to Baja, and it's never missed a beat! The 411 Himalayan is a proven bike, it had issues the first years, but the latest models are solid! 😎 Buying a leftover new stock is a no brainer.
I have two 411s, a 2019 I bought used and a 2023. I might let go of one of them for the new bear 650. For those multi-day road rides that occasionally run out of pavement... I fell in love with the 411 for its capability, but never really found it that attractive. The bear just looks so good to me. But I will keep one 411 for my dirt road rides.
I guess I’m paying too much. I’m picking up a 2022 411 Himalayan tomorrow. 4,000 mi $3900. But it’s totally set up with everything I need to add. I was looking at the 450s. Just didn’t want to spend that much. Glad you’re recommending the 411s!
I have 2021 himi as a daily ride to work bike. Its basically bullet proof. Cheap to run , easy to service, on the down side its totally invisible to tesla drivers on my daily commute, and along country lanes.... 2 wheels good , four wheels bad ...
As a motorbike world traveler, I spoke a lot with RE Himalayan 411 owners. Most of them say it's absolutely unreliable. I trust them with 10s of thousands of kms of experience.
unreliable ? Wow, I never hear this. even with those they ride it across the globe. interesting. I've spoke to many as well and they say it never let them down around the world. 🌍. hmmmmm
Totally agree. My wife has the 411 and just finished 5600 miles on the TAT this October. She has fuel tanks on the upper crash bars which were never really needed. I’d like to get her some bags to replace them. What kind are yours/where’d you get them? Thanks. Great video.
You're right about the value. I have a 2022 Himalayan, I bought it in '23 out the door with tax and license for $5200 cash. It replaced a Ducati that cost 3x as much. I get 60 mpg at 60 mph and with a 1 gallon Rotopax I have a range of 300+ miles. Cruises at 65 all day, but unfortunately will top out around 75. Even so, I'm keeping mine. It's a good deal...
Theres a 440cc Himalayan based in the ls 410 (now bored out to 440cc) id recommend getting that instead of the 411 as they have been updated with a strengthened chassi and other improvements on the 411.
After switching from an '06 CBR1000RR to a '22 Classic 350 was a massive shock. But what I have found is that the numbers folks spit out is so far from real world riding. Yeah my RE has 160 hp less than the Honda. It has changed my whole perspective on riding after 40 years and 200+k miles on sportbikes. I love RE's new tech but I agree with you the original Himi is a helluva bike. Watch Itchy Boots ride one from India half way across the globe back home to Holland on hers.
I own a 411 Himalayan, I use it all the time for my gravel road adventurers. Its a great bike, I do wish it had a bit more power as i lot of my riding is open road speeds (100Kph here in NZ) and that's going up and down hills all the time where i ride. The 411 is a fantastic bike for long distance riding, I can ride for hours on by bike with out much bother. I got my bide 2nd hand. But If i had to buy a new bike i would buy the 450 Himalayan or the CF moto 450 over a 410 Himalayan.
And it would appear tha the same is true for 411 Scram. Since the 440 was announced (nad it does sound cool - with exception of the higher weight), the prices on the used market has been dropping (makes me sorry for those who are selling now, though)
Hi from UK....2019 i purchased 411 6thousand miles later i sold... ran classic 350 awhile but couldnt live without that clonky character in the 411 so bought my second one this year.. ...its staying.😂👍..now after trying demo 450 and the guerrilla they are a totally different bike not suited for me....we have narrow awkward trails and 411 is better for me....and living in northern england we many many scenic backroads...so to sum up there affordable fun ...
Is 411 cc enough? That makes me think of 1976-77 when my friends had motorcycles in the 400 cc range. That was about average back then. More than capable for roads. Nowadays 400 cc isn't much for on road. But off road? Which is easier to handle when you really get off the road. A 421 cc bike or say a 1300 cc BMW? The more difficult the terrain the more difficult it is to handle the big bikes compared to the smaller ones. I've heard this argument from a few reviews who think some adventure bikes are getting too big for what they were intended for. I guess it comes down to what sort of conditions will you be riding in.
Speed limit was 55mph back then, 400cc's was plenty. Now, here in New Mexico, speed limit is 75. Most folks drive at least 5mph over, me included. I had a Honda 400-4 and BMW R75/6 both had a top speed of about 115 mph. Now I have a Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor, with a top speed of about 105 mph, go figure.
@tonto66 I have a CTX1300 that's supposed to hit the rev limiter near 125 mph. I tried 100 mph and that was fast enough. With the tall windshield and aftermarket trunk it didn't feel very stable.
@ Good for you then. I am afraid I have to disagreee. I kinda like the smaller bikes and I have ridden Royal Enfields Bulllet 500 cc several weeks in the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan and India) and I really enjoyed the Bullet 500 although it was a quite heavy lump and not very much power. Then the Himalaya came and I was quite exited about it! But it turned out it was even heavier and had less power than the Bullet 500. Anyway I rented one for 3 days and rode a lot of mountainroads in northern Thailand with it - and it was basically no fun to ride!
Why not just buy a used Kawasaki KLR650? Their are a ton of used KLR 650's out there for $1500-3000, my KLR is 17 years old and runs great, never not started, never broken down on me, doesn't burn oil, (I have always changed the oil every 2k miles, about once a year for me, $2 oil filter and 2.3 quarts of oil). She gets 50 MPG, with a 300 mile range. Tons of aftermarket parts, oil filters are 2 dollars. Japaneese quality,. There's nothing like like a Big Single cylinder, back in the 90's I rode a Honda XR600R, love a big single, they pull like a tractor in the mud holes. If you keep a good rear tire on her she'll never get stuck in the mud. I did Eagle Mike's .22 cent carb mod 17 yewars ago, never had to clean or adjust the carb since, valve adjustments are easy to do, I do them about every ten to fiftheen thousand miles.
20,000 miles on my 2020 411. Rode the 452 and don’t like it. I brought a 2nd 411 recently 2021 1600 miles all the extras wanted/needed including three hard boxes on the back for less than your equivalent $3,000 . So two 411’s and very happy with that. No brainier for what they do. Should be aware the 452 is a different league when it comes to home maintenance… bucket and shims no thanks. Ride safe.
Unfortunately the 450 makes more sense. Too much free way travel. I hoping they annouce the 650 himi. For myself it would be perfect. Love this line of thought sir. Thank youm
@ I ride the 411 on the highway. as i said in the video, is it the best for that? no. But for used price right now ya can't beat it. it's does 65mph all day long. Is 450 easier? of course. but the 450 isn't $3000 fully kitted right now, that's all. Both great machines.
If I didn’t have the Panzer Id buy it in a heartbeat… Its not fast but its a locomotive fast… does everything you want it to do. Its a great bike despite what the people say about this and that… Its cheap reliable and gets the job done. If you want a bike that goes 0-60 in under 2 then get a custom Hayabusa🤣🤣
I also bought my Touring push bike a Vivente for $4635 here in OZ, not cheap, but fcukin good quality. MY new 411 in 23 cost $8500 au, with racks and a couple of other extra's I regard it as a great bike too. Costly but our average wages here weekly is $1650pw, so you have to expect higher prices with wages like that. I am on a Dept. Of VA pension and I get $900pw. It's good money for vets.
India has the 6 speed 440 Scram in next year's line up. Here in Scotland we don't have green lanes so I opted for the Scram 411. IF you can handle the speed (Lack off) its brilliant.
If they could be a bit more reasonable on its wieght it could possibly be ok! My dr650 weighs 378, that bulldozer of a 411 weighs 432! That's a lot of extra pounds for less of a bike honestly! My 94 dr has Been running for 40 years and will still be running long after those fuel injected bikes are in a junk yard. I wouldn't call it incapable but you would surely be pushing it to go 70. Besides I like the grunt of my G.O.A.T. my single thumper has no problem going 90. Never once have I had the "I think I can, I think I can" it's always been a "is that all ya got!" Come on challenge me Sally! Gotta correct ya on squishy brakes thing, that comes from the hoses not the pads!
@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA didn't mean to sound off like it's a bad bike it's just that it weighs 60 pounds more than my unit and I honestly would like mine to lose about 40 to 50 pounds to be closer to dirt bike weight!
@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA I already have 6 bikes, and buying a new one means letting one go. I haven't let one go since I bought the Duc Desert X 2 years ago. I let the KTM 690 Enduro go for that one.
Nah. Buy a 450. With three year’s warranty any issues will get ironed out. Riemann, MAD TV, Joe Ryan, Girl On A Bike have ridden them extensively- very few issues at all, unlike a KTM😂
No, buy my bike for only $2K. A 2001 BMW F650 GS ! Superior in every way ! Except it won't start. I bought it a year ago, and have never rode it. Think of all the $ I've saved! It could be yours!
Bigger bike? 450 isnt just twice the engine ....its lighter, Its higher ground clearance, more fuel, better suspension, adjustable suspension, better brakes, 6 gear, more rubber ... I mean its a total different bike.
I prefer the 411 because it is a dying breed with its simple air cooled engine and retro looks from the 1950s. The new one looks Japanese so I would buy a Honda instead.
Not only is the 411 a better value than the new POS, but it has been proven, and the most important thing to me, it has less TRASH technology. But, it still has too much. I will be sticking with my carbureted Suzuki DR650, which has already been set up with all the goodies, including a larger fuel tank. I do not want ANY electronic TRASH on my bike.
lol. I'm not a watchmaker lol. Timex was simply bc of the old commercial "takes a licking and keeps ticking". It's not a Rolex or Tag Huer bc the price is so low. Sooo whatever watch is the best value in your line of work, that is the Himalayan. To each their own is indeed correct!
Scram 440 - 6 gears, tubeless alloys, Led headlight, updated chassis for tailbox, upgraded brakes, centre stand .. Worth waiting for..
I understand just saying for $2800 used right now it's hard to beat for that price. 440 will be amazing but not $2800. that's all ....
The new Led headlight is bad. Genuinely the old one has more illumination. I love everything else about the bikes.
I rode a hire 411 through the Himalayans for 2 weeks and it was perfect for those conditions. However you rarely did more than 80kmh (50mph). I felt it needed more top end for Australian highways.
KLr is awesome. Was speaking on Himi bc i own one and not a KLR, but it too is a beast
exactly the same reasons why i got the 411
congratulations!
Ride safe.
fair points ! thanks for watching!
Unfortunately the 450 makes more sense. Too much free way travel. I hoping they annouce the 650 himi. For myself it would be perfect. Love this line of thought sir. Thank youm
yes for lots of free way travel I understand your point completely. 650 would be amazing !
The 450 is just the better option if you want to do allround stuff.
you can do all around stuff w the 411 for $2800. just sayin. 450 is great but the 411 prices are amazing
@ I wouldn’t want to take the 411 on a highway, and overtaking is much easier with the 450.
If you want a bike that goes 0-60 in under 2 then get a custom Hayabusa🤣🤣
agreed
A choice, slow and heavy or faster but ridiculously top heavy.
hmmmm
A steel bicycle from Co-Motion cycles cost $5000+. I wanted to get a custom titanium bicycle frame and it cost $3000!
wow!
Im hoping they bring the 440 scram here.
maybe !
I thought RE was going to stop making the 411 old jimmy Aust
they did. the 450 is now it. the 411 last model was 2023.
India has the 6 speed 440 Scram in next year's line up. Here in Scotland we don't have green lanes so I opted for the Scram 411. IF you can handle the speed (Lack off) its brilliant.
indeed !
Gotta correct ya on squishy brakes thing, that comes from the hoses not the pads!
thanks for the contribution! ride safe
@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA didn't mean to sound off like it's a bad bike it's just that it weighs 60 pounds more than my unit and I honestly would like mine to lose about 40 to 50 pounds to be closer to dirt bike weight!
Screw that ride by wire nonsense and the stressed member frame it has. The 411 frame is stronger no matter what the claim is.
there ya go !
It almost makes me want to pick one up. Almost. 😅
you have plenty
of room at FNR HQ! do it !!!!!
@ 😂
LOL! Half price still isn't incentive enough for half a bike!
half bike ? it's an awesome bike.
@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA I rode one, and chose not to buy it. Cutting $1k off the new asking price, or buying used, doesn't make it any more interesting.
@ for you and that's fair. but for many it's a deal and an awesome machine.
what did you buy ?
@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA I already have 6 bikes, and buying a new one means letting one go. I haven't let one go since I bought the Duc Desert X 2 years ago. I let the KTM 690 Enduro go for that one.
@@kiplambel4052 awesome ! thanks for sharing !
Too late......I already bought the 411😮😂
me too lol
Nah. Buy a 450. With three year’s warranty any issues will get ironed out. Riemann, MAD TV, Joe Ryan, Girl On A Bike have ridden them extensively- very few issues at all, unlike a KTM😂
jus sayin a used 2022 411 now for $2800 is amazing lol.
No, buy my bike for only $2K. A 2001 BMW F650 GS ! Superior in every way ! Except it won't start. I bought it a year ago, and have never rode it. Think of all the $ I've saved! It could be yours!
Haha I hear ya! I'm all about the deals.
Can you believe that honda has launched the CB 350 for less than the price of a monkey bike. That's pretty amazing.
😳
0-60 in 3 days...that's gold
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
If any of this advice was relevant, manufacturers would never sell a new product.😂
Marvelous.
Some people prefer donkeys than horses.
Donkeys are tremendous for the long haul. facts !
Bigger bike? 450 isnt just twice the engine ....its lighter, Its higher ground clearance, more fuel, better suspension, adjustable suspension, better brakes, 6 gear, more rubber ... I mean its a total different bike.
i didn't say it wasn't just saying the 411 is SO cheap right now it's crazy NOT to buy one. 450 is amazing for sure 👍🏼
411 has the looks that the 450 could never get even if you spent another 5k on it. 450 is pig ugly in my opinion.
I agree. It looks horrible. I was excited to hear they are making a 450 … but when I saw it I was horrified. No thank you.
I prefer the 411 because it is a dying breed with its simple air cooled engine and retro looks from the 1950s. The new one looks Japanese so I would buy a Honda instead.
fair points! the 411 is such a capable little tractor ! 👍🏼
You can't beat simplicity.
I'm a watchmaker and Timex are absolute garbage. Your comparing the bike to a POS? Each to their own.
Buy Japanese
I have a kawasaki as well. The Himi is amazing tho
It's too weak
disagree
