    I like seeing all the different aspects.... from turf, to irrigation, to gravel driveway renovations with the ventrac. It’s nice to change it up!!

    Hey Pete! I’m looking to renovate my yard. I really like Tall Fescue, but there aren’t really any yards in the area that have Fescue. I’m about 80 miles south of Chattanooga, technically in the warm season zone. Just wondering if you thought I could handle gci fescue with irrigation.

    2:35 Some sprinkler heads come with an orange cap, that is used to flush out the system they you just put the nozzle on, or I used a gutted sprinkler body to flush out the system, helps to keep mud and water flowing back into the system. You don't always get the best hole dug.

  • @toddfromflorida

    I like the swing joints for their simple design. I mentioned to you in your irrigation video for your office to put flex pipe between the pvc and heads at a minimum along the road by your shop but preferable on all heads due to being run over by mowers etc.
    I think flex pipe is better than even the swing joints because they (swing joint) introduce 2 additional 90degree turns to the path of water which will slow the water down slightly. And if you look at the diameter of that swing pipe, it is relatively small diameter especially for big rotors. Whereas flex is much larger and has no ADDITIONAL 90's. Swing joints are good for mister heads but not big rotors in my opinion.
    Keep at it man. Good job as usual.....

    • @rey3472
      @rey3472 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For turf rotors with 3/4 and up inlets, the better swing joints are made with nipples sized to the inlet and elbows. Does not make sense to use the flexible tubing that is virtually the size of the front orifice of the turf rotor.

    • @toddfromflorida
      @toddfromflorida 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rey3472 Sorry. I don't understand your point. They make flex line that is as large or larger than the inlets of the rotors. (1/2 and 3/4 are typical) I can provide links to where you can buy 3/4 flex if you would like. And it doesnt introduce two 90's.
      If you were talking about my comment about inside diameter of the swing joints, you are absolutely right. Some swing joints had larger ID for the same size 'fittings' than others. So at least make sure to look for the largest ID you can find.

    Instead of using pvc pipe, you should try using poly pipe. It comes in rolls of 300 ft.less joints, less leaks. You can also buy the materials to make your own swing joints. I do this just incase I need an odd size length. The pipe is called funny pipe. Check it out

    • @greghuizen

      I was going to suggest the same thing. And you can do it with only 1 or 2 elbows which helps your flow rate.

      I believe there are some states that require pvc. I live in Michigan and we use poly pipe and funny/swing pipe. I always hate when I come across a pvc system in need of repairs. We have to winterize all of our irrigation due to temps dropping well below zero over the winter.

      @@GCITurf Pete do they make a swing joint for standard 1" flex black pvc pipe? First time I ever seen that, and up here in detroit we don't have very many full PVC hard white pipe installs. Both the names r slipping my mind right now haha, I can't think of the correct terms for both pipes....

      @@davidmoore8741 Depending on your sprinkler head you'll need to go from the 1" to either a 3/4" or 1/2" female thread and then on to your male threaded swing joint. I did not see any residential heads with a 1" fitting on them.
