    I used the same kit on my bike and I love it too! I am 57 and the electric pedal assist makes me feel like I am 17 again and been training for a Yellow Jersey. Just got mine together and yesterday I rode this bike more than I have any other bike in the last 25-30 years.

      I ride for the enjoyment and not because I’m on some health kick. Is this make riding enjoyable. Plus it has me investing money in the sport of mountain bikes. I’m definitely wanting to try the CYC motor next.

    Thanks for your thoughts. I did almost the same conversion, but on a hardtail because I mostly use it for a short commute to the office. I also changed the factory mappings, because they were way too aggressive for me. Now it feels like always riding downhill with a tailwind. I liked the tinkering, but as a side benefit I also lost some weight, very little daily exercise appears to be better than none ;-)

    I use the 02 on a mountain bike and a cargo bike. With 48v/20 ah I get 55 miles. My cargo bike uses 2 x 48v/20ah and has a 180 watt solar panel. (one batt in use the other charging). On sunny days and 13 mph I have infinite range (no headwind and flat terrain). I only have 3 things that are not so great about the Bafang set. 1. The level selector "dies" when it gets wet. So have some extra with when you go on longer trips. And/or protect it somehow ( I put a plastic bag over it). 2. Have a spare chain with you. And buy the strongest money can buy. 3. I live in a humit climate. So the "paint" starts to peal of at some point . And the motor will start to corrode .. So I repaintet it after one year.

    If you haven't plugged in a USB and programmed the motor to fit your need and preference, you're missing 75% of the joy of the Bafang BBS systems!

    Good overview of the trade offs.
    An open frame would have been easier as you can install the battery inside without any special bracket.

    I do have a question. I have heard and read where people who build these bikes, say that you lose a lot of torque and speed when the battery drops down below 80%. Do you ever see a degradation in either of those? Top speed of this kit?

      @aMotoheadsGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@IdahoEagle77 I don’t notice a drop until around 30% and mine tops out about 40mph

    This is so much good info, thank you! I get the impression from other Bafang reviews that not all sellers are the same. Do you happen to know which seller you got it from, I don't see it anywhere in the description or the comments

    The issue with the battery is that you really want the weight down low and it is too big to fit there.

    • @aMotoheadsGarage
      @aMotoheadsGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t know why people keep saying this. It literally isn’t an issue at all.

      @@aMotoheadsGarage Agreed. Top tube mount or similar is fine. When you stand up on the bike and you consider the battery's weight to be an extra few pounds on your belly, it makes sense that it wouldnt be a problem. I started with my 48 24AH battery mounted on a rear rack, which is similar in size to yours. That was horrible, moved it to the middle of my bike and its absolutely wonderful on the top tube here, too.

    I'm looking for a kit that also allows charging of the battery through either pedal rotation or wheel rotation. For example if my wife and I are out biking and she's using her throttle I need to be able to skip my throttle and pedal my bike and then when her battery dies just swap batteries out so she can keep throttling on down the road but I can start recharging her battery by peddling beside her.
    Do you have any recommendations for a kit that allows that?

    • @aMotoheadsGarage
      @aMotoheadsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know which kits have regen. I don’t think it would change it that much anyway. Just get a few extra batteries.

    Yes, you did get the gas bike engine,(phantom), mixed up with the e bike motor,(photon). Oh well, the Phantom 85 is a piece of junk, even the V3. Mine seized at 48 miles. The Photon, however, is said to be good. I threw away $335 for the Phantom.😬🥴🤔😭
