    Highly considered the 4090 Legion for a purchase since the value is so great. And of the 40 series laptop gpus, the 4090 along with the 4080 both have more than 8GB of VRAM. I think it's important to have more than 8GB of VRAM moving forward since games will definitely require more. But with the changes to the gen 8/2023 model (decreasing quality of life features) and my budget, I ended up with the top spec'd Legion 7 gen 7 model from last year i9-12900HX with rtx 3080 Ti for about $1k less than the current top spec'd gen 8 model.

    I just purchased the Legion Pro 7i w/ a 4090 for just under $2600. I haggled with the Lenovo folks as well as used some other discounts I have. I also had points from a previous laptop purchase. It is due to arrive at my home in a few days. I am excited to try this one out.

      @@TheDataArchitect I had the misfortunate ability to test out a bunch as I am very particular. The Lenovo 7i is amazing. I am still using it today. I do not game a bunch, but I have not encountered a game I cannot play. Also, I like the keyboard. It is very responsive. The screen is bright and crisp. I would say for you to call Lenovo and haggle on price/options. I have tried ones from Asus, Samsung, HP, Lenovo, and Acer. For me...I have found the Lenovo 7i to be the best for my needs. It has enough RGB, but nothing over the top. If there is a drawback, there are 2 USB-C. Only one carries power. That is the port in the back deck of the laptop. Outside of that, it is great. You get the 240hz screen. I believe I am correct in saying the laptop screen has a 3ms response time.

      When tuned the Legion can perform better than every other major 4090 laptop out there except water cooled hardware modded ones from Eluktronics and XMG. With my 24/7 stable prime95 Testmem5 config, I score 23,000 GPU and 19,700 CPU in 3dmark timespy
      Unfortunately I can't post links to the results because Google / YT keeps censoring it
      I didn't overclock anything, only undervolted both GPU and CPU. Disabled Lenovo and Intel's performance gimping drivers.

    • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The MSI GT77 is also faster than the Legion in terms of Timespy GPU score--but obviously super expensive. Otherwise, I'd say the Legion is on par with the best RTX 4090s out there in general (Blade 18/Omen 17), which is to say has excellent performance.

    More 4080 laptops? Honestly 4090 laptops have ridiculous high prices for just 8-15fps more and an additional +600€ compared to 4080 (at least these are the prices in EU). NVidia prices for laptops this year are too high in general IMHO.

I prefer the cooling setup in the legion to that of the scar. I am not gaming but using this laptop as a portable workstation and it is a beast. I would of paid closed to $5k if I would of gone with the scar 16. Over $6k for the Razer counterpart.

    Shouldn't have ignored the outrageous qc issues on Asus this year. There is almost a 50 percent chance you will get a machine with coil whine which is simply unacceptable. You can't work with that static buz. It will drive you mad. On the other hand Lenovo is quite as a whisper in silent mode. Even if both are priced same, I would still consider Lenovo. Plus the vapour chamber has done better job in cooling the machine. Screen is the only department where scar outshines legion.

    • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Coilwhine is annoying if you are a noise sensitive person. The coilwhine on my unit would not be that noticeable if I had fans going at all. But I do prefer not to hear it at all, which is one of the reasons I did end selecting the Blade 18, since it is so great in the fan noise and quality speakers departments.
      I have heard some people's coilwhine went away over time, and from a recent buyer who said there was none. I had several reports of coilwhine in a row at launch though... Not good.
      My biggest concern for my Blade 18 is battery bloat and the flickering while in hbyrid mode. Going to have to see what happens with that.

      I know your comment is old but just in case you haven’t worked it out yet. The reason the screen goes black is when you unplug from mains power and go battery only the screen will go black to adjust from the higher htz to the lower 60htz to save on battery life. The screen “blacks out” for a few seconds during this process. A heap of laptops do this not just Asus and it’s totally normal while transition to lower htz takes place to conserve battery life. @muuz6578

With the Legion 5 (AMD 4600h) I could knit a sweater and get a coffee, when importing vector graphics files (can be thousands at a time per job). With the G16, it is literally seconds. Lower temps, better performance, better build, better ports location, cheaper price, and unlikely to get coil whine that Asus adds to their laptops. Watching the gameplay on my oled phone, the only game where I saw the Asus colors pop was in the witcher. I thought the Legion screen looked better in the other games. Most of gamers are playing on external mo itors or video maker too, so, it will be very interesting to test these video's port and nits and gamut. I will be a real Plus in you content tests. Thank you so much for all your works💋💋❤️❤️

    Legion is better Overall, but I'll 100 percent choose Asus just for the display. SRGB on a 3000 laptop is a massive deal breaker

      HDR looks pretty bad in most games and Windows imo. My friend has an HDR10 monitor and he just runs it in SDR anyways because it looks better. Windows is in sRGB anyway so I'm assuming you meant SDR.

    i like the scar 16 but the price difference between the two is too much for me especially considering that I got the pro 7i 4090 for 2400 before tax. What I can tell you is if you can afford the scar 16 go for it. the display's color gamut difference between the g14 6900hs and legion is noticeable to me. the g14 has better colors when compared side by side.

    Legion just lead like 3-5 FPS, but damn Scar is way better screen resolution while legion looks cheap video quality

    • @nocommentarygaming2644
      @nocommentarygaming2644 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just because it's brighter doesn't mean the Legion's screen is bad. Video compression prioritizes scenes with higher gamma so yes the Scar will look better, but in reality the Legion's screen is still really good. I have one and I'm always amazed at how much the colors pop. Certainly not worth paying $700-1000 more for the Scar. And the difference is way more than 3-5 FPS in every game.

    • @joeymanny
      @joeymanny 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nocommentarygaming2644 thats why legion cheaper, the quality of screen is not apr to scar, simple as that thats not debatable

    • @nocommentarygaming2644
      @nocommentarygaming2644 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joeymanny So you would pay $800 extra for 300 nits extra brightness? Because Windows runs in sRGB so that's all that matters and both have 100% in that respect. And I don't even put my 500 nit Legion on max brightness because I find that's already too bright for me indoors. The Legion also has other advantages that just make it a better overall laptop (like performance, temps, undervolting, etc).

    I was ready to buy it , but I build mini atx Ryzen 7800x3D with rtx 4090 for the same price and I'm getting double performance in games , I'm playing everything in 4K ultra and more than 130fps in the most demanding games and I couldn't play it in 4k with scar 16 more than 55fps. What a nice choice I did not buying a laptop 🙏

      Hey, desktops are great! I usually own a desktop and a laptop. But some people need the mobility, some people don’t. Some people want to play at 4k, but I think most of us are super happy with QHD resolutions, especially considering that is the native display resolution. Congrats on your desktop, but lets not put down others favorite tech just becuase you don’t need to be mobile.

    • @volcalstone

      Yeah I agree with @@GizmoSlipTechthat both serve different needs. If you want raw power while using more energy then go build a desktop. I current have a 7800X3D with a 4090 FE as well. That's my home setup and I also have a Strix G18 4080 to use around the house. Lastly I got an Ally for in the go. If I want something bigger in the go the I'll grab my Flow X16 or Blade 15 OLED.

    • @joeg9244
      @joeg9244 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it will support DDR5-5600 from various kits as long as they are single rank 2x16(32GB) (memory chips banked on one side of each stick/module) or it will handle DDR5-5200 dual rank (memory chips on both sides of modules) I am currently running a DDR5-5600 (2x32GB-64 GB total) kit in my SCAR 16 but it's running at 5200mhz. It's cleared up a lot of my 1% lows in games like Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor, both which really are impacted by RAM speeds when it comes to stutter/1% lows. I am perfectly happy going from DDR5-4800 cheap Hynix to a much faster/higher quality Crucial kit.
