    EVERY TIME
    EVERY TIME
    omg
    it's not just me
the amount of people who think it's not a real job or say "oh" is insane. all my family and all the new people i met so far had that reaction except ONE person. when i said "i'm an artist" her eyes suddendly opened widely, she smiled at me and said "oh that's so cool ! what do you do ? paintings ?" and i talk about my work for a couple minutes and it was the best moment ever.
i wish i was able to talk about my job to my family but they don't get it at all :(
    sad life

yeah exactly it's like being an ARTIST can't be a job, it's so annoying meeting "new" people but sometimes it's not that annoying (I hope you understand me)^^

+Sakuems ''I'm an artist'' means the same thing when people say ''I'm special''. Everyone's an artist. There is no reason for artists to be taken seriously or as seriously as they expect or want to be taken. Simply because art is just a tool that anyone can use to explain the unexplainable, transfer emotions. To make it a decent job, you must make a decent income out of it. Which that only depends on luck, and I do mean only luck alone. Not your skill level, not any other real factors, because there is no such thing as ''bad art'', there is only art. Anyone who says otherwise has only biased opinions on what art actually is or stands for. The % of you getting decent money from it, is becoming slimmer as the time goes on. Simply because people are starting to be lazy, more introverted and don't want to deal with anyone else. So they decide to start painting or *insert any more well known art form* and when you have literally thousands of painting with essentially the same idea over and over, the value drops quite allot. Because there is very little originality found in it. 90% of it is quite forgettable. People take what is out there and adapt it to be theirs, which is fine, cause everything more or less has been done before. People don't find creating art as being a job simply because it has no set values, no ways to judge it or monetize it. Its very risk-reward type of scenario. One day you might hit jackpot and make a million dollars from it, if you're at the right place, at the right time. On the flips side, you may not sell a single one of your painting, even if you worked years on them and become a homeless drifter that lives in his broken down car.

It's ok with me that some people don't take artists seriously because I can just smile and think to myself...Ha..you don't know what you're missing. Today in the Toronto (Ontario) Star newspaper there was an article about a group of about 30 adults that meet at a hotel every week to color and draw pictures with (Crayola) crayons. They say they find it more relaxing than "yoga or valium". Not so bad if you think about it,although I would rather do my own thing in my own studio. Thanks ArtistsNetwork, I always enjoy your postings.

Neil T Thank you! I think it's pretty cool that a group that large is meeting to color and draw together... ~Cherie :)

"Oh.." and awkward silence. Then the topic of money comes up. Beh.
"I used to draw in highschool. I was really good." Those make me smile, actually.
Funny, that one line "I could do it myself" because I say that to myself often as a challenge. But then I can also back up my words.

December Sounds It's like "Dude, should I be calling the cops right now?" :P
I've never had that one said to me. Though I've said it to myself, because what artist doesn't when they think of the 'Greats' in history & the recognition they finally get centuries later? XD

I can really relate to the cat things I have one friend and she literally gave me a glass statue of a cat that she bought at Goodwill and asked me to paint it the same colour scheme as her cat................still waiting on the 5 bucks she promised me for it.

My cousin actually asked me to design a tattoo for his girlfriend. Lol. Well, I took it as a compliment that he thought I could draw that well, but I personally think getting tattoos is cheesy and...uh...ugly, especially as a tattoo ages on human skin. Nope, not how I want to be remembered as the ink oozes all over the skin. Ugh! However, I did get an idea from him for a picture I was working on, so not so bad. No, it wasn't at all copying what he wanted me to do. And I actually asked a relative before I got into art to make a cover for a book I was writing. No, I did not want her to do it for free. She refused. Her loss because now I can do it myself the way I wanted it to be. So the part about the girl wanting to do it more inexpensively herself is something people can actually do if they are talented enough. I just tire of how "undervalued" artists feel and complain about. Oh brother! How awful for them in all their talent! Do it for yourself or else prepare to be bumped out of the way! Just sayin'!
