Wow, I love the composition, color and drama of that painting at 8:48 in the video. Love that path through the painting.

This guy is so good... the beauty in the mundane... make them SEE IT! Man i gotta loosen up and get poetic. Much easier said than done.

Agree, being out in creation, is most inspiring... perhaps it's the sense of quiet, or belonging, as a created being... being creative. A gift.

I'm a huge fan, always hoping to get in one of his classes, maybe here in Washington. This was different, a nice personal moment with him.

This actually makes him much more likeable for me. I always got a vibe off the course videos & articles that he didn't like students or hobbyists very much. Hearing him speaking off-the-cuff gave him a much warmer or comprehensible affect which will probably tone my ongoing impressions.

I took a workshop with him. It was a great leap forward in my development as a pastel landscape painter; he's a great instructor.

Thank you for that exquisite explanation! Interesting that you initiated your career in art with drawing portraits. I am interested in portraits not, but started with landscapes during my brief tenure as an upcoming artist.
