Pencil Animation: Betty Skelton, airplane stunts 1940s

This pencil animation was made in honor of Betty Skelton, "The First Lady of Firsts." Skelton lived an amazing life, flying a biplane as a teenager and then later racing cars and even working with NASA. This animation took over a month to create. I used various photo references and based the "walk-by" and plane stunts on a film from the late 1940s. I took a lot of film stills and began by reproducing those. The problem was that the film was very grainy and parts showed Betty a a gray blob with no details. So I referenced a lot of old photos to fill in the missing parts.
