'18 Chevy Silverado - Engine Light On - EVAP Leak & Problem With Fuel Pressure Sensor

  • In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a customers 2018 Silverado that got dropped off with a customer complaint of a service engine soon light on. A quick scan showed an issue with the fuel pressure sensor as well as an EVAP leak. Doesn't take long to see that the salt is doing wonders on the rusty ol' Chevy.

Its a hard deal for the car makers. I completely understand actually wanting plastic parts in that environment as steel dosent cut it. But here in australia ,with a dry ,hot, enviromnment a steel component will way outlast anything made of plastic. Usually our cars have very little rust but the interiors and any plastic engine bay fittings turn to dust. My father, by virtue of having a simple carport to keep the sun off, is still driving around in a rust free 1981 ford falcon.

I live in Arizona, U.S., and I'm still driving around in a rust free 1972 Ford Pinto wagon. But we have the same problem here with sun. It burns the paint off, and rots the interior and tires.

The U.S. has so many different environments that is almost impossible to design one vehicle to withstand all of them. Also, not all of our states use salt and/or sand on the roads in the winter. When I lived in Arizona, I drove a 1974 Datsun 510 around that was rust free. Getting parts was an import nightmare, but it was a fun little car. But in Indiana, where I grew up, cars rarely lasted more than 15 years with the best of care.

I learned so much from Eric O I can’t thank him enough. My diagnostic time is cut in half and less to none “ comebacks”!! But over all im getting decent pay checks now😊 thanks to Eric O !!!

Idk... my VW Jetta has a lot of Mexican made parts and is assembled in Mexico. Thing has been rock solid up to 263k so far. Its a 2012, 2.0(non turbo) with a 5 speed transmission. I've spent roughly 1100 on repairs, not maintenence, in the last 10 years of ownership. I can't say VW is stellar for reliability either. I think every brand makes a few gems now and then. I'm really big on staying away from excess electronics, turbos and automatic transmissions. Those things alone will generally lead to a more reliable car.

Wow that was a fun one! Here in Utah we don’t have quite as much rust so when I saw the small evap leak I was almost certain it was going to be from the pos purge valve that Chevy uses. See them leaking just enough when closed to set that fault all the time down here.

But there is no way, No way I would consider giving GM 50 to 70 thousand dollars for a new one. It could have an option for road head while your driving and it still wouldn't be worth that kind of money.

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra w/ a fuel pump assembly like your 2018. My fuel pump stopped working at 60,000 miles in 2022. For the past 25yrs I have been replacing my GM intank fuel pumps between 60,000 and 80,000 miles so I'd say this guy's just about due at 40K. I got a new pump w/ gas gauge sender from Napa for my 2017 Sierra Part No. NNP. C0790M, but there was some specificity about the size of the bed and number of doors. Mine is a "Double Cab" w/ 78" X 62" Bed/ Box. The pump assbly was made in Mexico. It cost me $276.65 including 6% sales tax. They got it into the store the very next day. My steel hold down ring and locks were plenty rusty but very serviceable. Your 2018 lock ring looks like it's made from laminated steel and are rusting between them. I completely covered all the steel parts with WHEEL BEARING GREASE when I was done to slow the rust down. It took me 2hrs but I drained the tank from nearly full so it wasn't a fire hazard. (In my own garage) The last time Eric did a pump change for evap leak was after he diagnosed it in video: An EVAP Leak 2 Other Shops Couldn't Find. That video was done 5mos ago. He did the repair, but did not record pulling the tank, so I'd like to see the tank R&R Eric if you don't mind recording it this time. ben/ michigan
