I don't normally comment on videos like these, but honest, it's stuff like this that makes me appreciate having a background in drifting... Even though drifting is by far one of the slowest ways around a corner on modern tires, this video shows its practical applications. So many of these accidents, are the direct result of drivers over correcting when their cars start to lose traction. If you've ever spent a day or two running a drift course all day long, you develop this weird sixth sense for allowing the car to naturally sort itself out before you start trying to intervene with a heavy hand. I don't know how to fully articulate it, but at drift events, you essentially learn to let go of the steering wheel and let the car starts front tires follow the path of least resistance before you start dialing in small, measured, and incremental steering corrections as needed. Traction becomes this visually discernible gradient that you can measure through your comparison of the vehicles current trajectory with your looking in the direction you want it to be going. Watch any in car video of professional drifters, and watch how much time they spend with their hands off the steering wheel. Half the battle in car control, is knowing when to intervene, and by how much.
Very interesting point. I always thought it'd be veeery useful spending some time to understand and learn how to keep cars under control, whenever it loses traction for some reason. Is this "drifting background" you have a result of a specific training experience? If yes, do you think it is possible to try something similar even for non-professional pilots?
kitt9854 I spent 2006-2010 doing amateur drifiting in a modified AE86 coupe, and I had two friends who were both Pro-Am drivers for the Formula D series here in the states, so I occasionally got to drive their competition cars too. I also have a podium finish in SCCA Rallyx, although getting it was almost accidental. I'd recommend drifting to anyone. And it is some of the most fun you'll ever have driving a car. But if you can't find a drift event to attend, go out on a rainy day, and practice doing large perfect circles with the tail out. That, at least to me. is probably the easiest way to get a feel for how a vehicles throttle can be used to steer a car through a corner. It teaches you slowly but surely that the accelerator can be used just as much as the wheel to steer a car.
As a professional road driver with over half milllion km of drifting experience, not only with cars and small vehicles... don't tell my boss ;) ... I greatly recommend drifting lessons, if possible within the initial regular driving lessons! ...but "pen-pusher" idiots seems to like to keep things simple enough to cause the opposite result while causing major simple to avoid accidents all around tre world! If you can learn to "drive" your feet everywhere there is a funny fundamental direct link with the reactions of anything "driveable". Physics applies for everything and most of it can be used daily by everyone without specialised institution's schooling. Most of our interactions, if minded to do anything efficiently or at least with a desire to make an effort to avoid unnecessary troubles, can be set by commitment to observe WHAT HAPPENS while practicing! Just mind PRACTICING in a safe place!
rallyeoberehe The Nürburgring & Rallye Channel I respect it enough to go and watch people crash and race on it and hope I crash as well, so I can tell my insurance I crashed my car doing what I loved.
While I do agree and hate it, people have totally forgotten what Tourist Driving originally meant. It's become Tourist Racing with brainless people. Since that Top Gear feature in 2008/09 thing have gone downhill rapidly.
+Jordan Carlson I saw at least as many cars riding slowly in the middle of the track messing people up behind them. Also I don't think I saw a single sport bike in this clip, those bike riders there are definitely NOT the normal track day riders. Also, if you are new to the track, how are you supposed to do a sighting lap to learn the corners if you have all these crappy drivers in equally crappy low grip cars whizzing around you? Like the guy above said, this sort of track session is NOT one where you should be taking your everyday car and pushing it to the brink of control thinking you're in F1. That needs a smaller amount of vehicles on track so there is space for mistakes. I'm suprised there wasn't a pile up.
+Alex Manolopoulos if you are doing a sighting lap, you don't drive in the center of the damn track, and you put a great amount of your attention into making sure you are out of the way of the people behind you.
+Völundr Frey Well, its not about racing on this track either. Even if there us slow traffic, the cars behind should be aware of that. Not really the bikers fault if you think about, even if it looks stupid :/'
Here's a question. If one driver kills another in one of these crashes, will said person be charged with some kind of crime, or does everyone who goes on this track have to sign some kind of waiver of responsibility or something? Cause this whole thing looks kinda nuts.......hilarious, but nuts.
+turbofanlover There are waivers, chances are if you don't do it intentionally you won't face liability. You're both on a race track and know it's dangerous, unless public road where you may accidentally kill someone with your stupid driving and they never agreed to take part in racing with you. Now if you run someone down on purpose then chances are you'll face criminal penalties.
+turbofanlover The Nordschleife counts as a normal street road, a highway for example, but you have to pay toll. So if something happens, insurances will cover that. It even says in the rules that racing is not allowed and you are only allowed to overtake cars on the left site (german highway law). But if you drive reckless and people will get hurt... then you are fucked :D you can get charged for that if people will get hurt. If you play by the rules and something happens, you wont get charged and insurance will cover the costs.

+Ruckus858 From what I gather its a track that's open to the public most of the time. Just pay a few to get in and its basically a road with no speed limit.
Yeah it's essentially a one way toll road, anything can drive along here during the times it's open to the public. I have seen coaches and vans and all manner of things on there which is why you can't give it 100% it's not a closed racetrack like Donington for example.
Nurburgring is probably the most challenging race track in the world. It is very long (about 12 miles), the track is very narrow and winding plus the weather changes very frequently. Very difficult track for an average street racer
Unfortunately too many think the brake is the solution to all driving maneuvers. Also, there really needs to be a minimum speed limit on the Ring. It's not a place for a Sunday drive.
@@JaJa-tb9pv i have poor tires never done that. Lol. Poor drivers..... well drivers doing stuff they can't handle. But hey its their cars. Hopefully thier money to fix it.
You can tell the pros. They are the ones that manage to keep their car from weaving all over the track when they do lose it and keep their crash to one side of the track. Cool vid!
It does very well lol just need a lot of throttle and brake control. the track is one of the hardest because of its road surface geometry on some parts that the naked eye cannot see.

I see a trend here. A lot of Renault 275 owners are a bit too confident. The car does have a lot of grip but when it looses, it things go bad very quickly, unlike the smarty pants gt86.
