13:27 Paleontologist here. The crests of Dilophosaurus weren't keratinous, but made out of bone. The depictions mainly seen in media are based on the old assumption that the crests were thin and fragile pieces on top of the skull that formed these two half oval ridges. By 2020, a re-evaluation of the species based on undescribed material shown that not only were the crests thicker, but likely taller and supported sinus cavities and attachment points. They could be covered by keratin and served to help create a casque. Current studies on the new material show that the crests may have been a multi-faceted trait that helped in species recognition, improved biting power, and to increased the strength of its calls. 14:47 There's only one species of Dilophosaurus: D. witherilli. While it's true that there was a Chinese species, that animal has since been reassigned to it's one genus: Sinosaurus. What's funny is that Sinosaurus as a genus has been known since 1940 and has a weird taxonomy. Sinosaurus means "Chinese reptile"; pretty straight forward, I know. However, it's species name, triassicus, infers that it came from the Triassic. This was due to an error in which the formation it was found in was throught to be older than it actually was. Turns out that this large carnivore was from the Early Jurassic a d, like Dilophosaurus, represents an early radiation of large apex predators popping up at the time. The remains that were once referred to Dilophosaurus were aligned under the species "D. sinensis", meaning "Two crested lizard from China"... before being reassigned to Sinosaurus. So in otherwords, the possible designation for this dinosaur literally means "Chinese lizard from China." The Redundancy Department of Redundancy was closed that day. If I remember correctly, the second species has since been made a junior synonym and now those remains are now part of the S. triassicus classification. What's cool is that a complete skull was found and described last year, showing that its heads of both animals were pretty similar to one another, meaning there's a possible relativity between the two compared to animals like Monolophosaurus and Cryolophosaurus. And if you're wondering if there's such a thing as Trilophosaurus, yes it existed, but no, it wasn't a dinosaur, but a weird, plant-eating Archosaur that looks like a big iguana.

I'm hopeful that the water beetle and cassowary Pokémon get added someday. They're very solid designs. Plus, new bugs and fire types are always welcome. The peanut dinosaur is neat, too, but it looks like it could use a little more workshopping. But not the pre-evo. That little dork is perfect. As for typing, I'd make the cassowary Fire/Rock, and Grass/Ground feels right for the peanut dinosaur. Also, the little rudder fish reminds me of the bottom of a windsurf board. Like someone could stick the fish on the bottom of their board and use the board's sail to fly across bodies of water with ease. Perhaps, if that inspiration is the case, it was dropped because surfing isn't the type of activity you think of when you think of "France."

In cartoons if someone is poisonind they change color and also poison is always depicted as a green or purple color so maby that's why
I'm surprised you didn't mention that flamingoes can be considered Phoenix adjacent, because they have the genus name Phoenicopterus which means "red wing". While both it and the word phoenix comes from phoinix which essentially means "purple red".
Man, I hope some of these designs return in some way. The poison chameleon, diving beetle, Cassowary, which I thought was a fossil mon, and the peanut Dino, are all easily my favourite concepts of these, and they shouldn’t be left behind
5:13 I always thought that thing on top is supposed to look like the special fishing spot. Like in Unova, whe nyou run around theres a dark spot in the water? yeah, that.
I'm probably one of the few people who, despite loving the leaks, also hates them. The reason the Alolan flying-type Eeveelution didn't get done was supposedly because it's designs were too similar to fan-made ones. They don't like introducing Pokémon with pre-existing designs, because of copyright issues and, according to interviews around the time of Black and White 2, they don't like to be predictable. So if leaks happen and people share and modernise the design, they'll likely never touch those designs again.
I'll be honest, that flamingo looks less inspired than Flamigo. And I don't even like Flamigo. The scrapped 'mon just kinda looks like a lazy fakemon to me, so I'm not sad it got cut. I'm 100% sure if we'd gotten it, people would've said "it's just a flamingo with high heels" about it.
The cut mon are actually the least interesting cut content by far, for instance you know the plot was supposed to be completely different? AZ was going to be the team flare boss, and he had a much more clear goal of preserving his bloodline. And thats not even getting into Southern Kalos...
The peanut beta pokemon would have been perfect for either unova or paldea due to the Dilophosaurus inspiration for unova or the peanut explanation for paldea due to Iberia being right next to Morrocco as well. And I think it would be funny if the peanut beta pokemon was more feminine to be a version exclusive to breloom as well🥜🦎
11:35 just so you know, there are flamingos in southern France in the coastal region called the Camargue. Actually, it's known for that, being an IBA :)
they might’ve referenced the boatmen Pokemon with Viola’s team, since it’s Vivillion (her ace) and a member of the Surskit line, another bug/water type that strides on the water’s surface it’s important enough to her that they choose it for her ace in Masters over her Vivillion
6:22 I'm fairly sure that's the one prehistoric shark thing that Subjectively also made a mon based off of at one point, and it was probably intended to have evos and be a fossil mon
they are such cool designs, which _might_ have been able to reappear in future gens, like how the shellos line did. now it's up to game freak if they do or don't. like always with scratched concepts.
Araquanid is my 4th-favorite ‘Mon to EVER exist and Golisopod is a certified banger. The toe biter ‘Mons would have been some WONDERFUL additions to the Bug/Water roster. I love that the baby form looks like a kick board!
All of these are excellent designs in my view. Even not fitting France, I think they fit better than many X&Y desings that ultimately became official, I'd say
It's hilarious that Tyrunt had to be changed because it was too close to Agumon, but the devs didn't even bat an eye at Shiny Tyrantrum being a literal Virus Greymon lookalike. Also, I want the Uzumaki chameleon back
5:15 One idea I saw for this little guy was that the body plan was made to look like a nail. And that is was a remora pre-evolution to a hammerhead shark pokemon. Thus the sharp body and weird fin plus the suction cup top. 10:35 Also, since the flamingo is also a flamenco dancer, it really makes me think that this might've been the original evolution for spritzee before they went the route of combining it with a plague doctor and kinda ruining it. Overall, both flamigo and aromatisse pale in comparison to this design in my opinion simple as it is, it looks good. Plus it also looks like it would've been the first Fairy/Fire type too.
I can see Cassowick and Bellowary (names I think could suit the cassowary Pokémon concept) being fire/dark, as they’re non-flying and are based on birds reputed for being rather nasty
Counter arguement to @17:22 Wouldn't be weird at all. We have Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra as another seahorse species, but just not as "flowy" But most of all, we have the Tentacool/Tentacruel vs Toedscool/Toedscruel and Diglett/Dugtrio vs Wiglett/Wugtrio lines. Although, the whole "convergent evolution" idea didn't hit until Gen9. But my point is that it's ok to have different pokemon with similar design elements, as long as they are completely different pokemon and look completely different.

10:24 I don't think being able to fly is a requirement for the flying type because doduo, dodrio and galarian zapdos are and they can't fly
The cut mon are actually the least interesting cut content by far, for instance you know the plot was supposed to be completely different? AZ was going to be the team flare boss, and he had a much more clear goal of preserving his bloodline. And thats not even getting into Southern Kalos...
I genuinely think they could've added some of these designs into the final product considering Kalos only has 72 new pkmn, not to much
The peanut beta pokemon would have been perfect for either unova or paldea due to the Dilophosaurus inspiration for unova or the peanut explanation for paldea due to Iberia being right next to Morrocco as well. And I think it would be funny if the peanut beta pokemon was more feminine to be a version exclusive to breloom as well🥜🦎
11:35 just so you know, there are flamingos in southern France in the coastal region called the Camargue. Actually, it's known for that, being an IBA :)
they might’ve referenced the boatmen Pokemon with Viola’s team, since it’s Vivillion (her ace) and a member of the Surskit line, another bug/water type that strides on the water’s surface
it’s important enough to her that they choose it for her ace in Masters over her Vivillion
18:49 when the thing you drew to be blood gets misinterpreted as blood so now you have to remove the blood.
6:22 I'm fairly sure that's the one prehistoric shark thing that Subjectively also made a mon based off of at one point, and it was probably intended to have evos and be a fossil mon
I guess venomous chameleons aren’t weird to me as a Monster Hunter player. We have 2 of them.
they are such cool designs, which _might_ have been able to reappear in future gens, like how the shellos line did. now it's up to game freak if they do or don't. like always with scratched concepts.
6:18 there's also a type of prehistoric shark with a similarly designed dorsal fin.
Araquanid is my 4th-favorite ‘Mon to EVER exist and Golisopod is a certified banger.
The toe biter ‘Mons would have been some WONDERFUL additions to the Bug/Water roster. I love that the baby form looks like a kick board!
It would have been so cool so use surf with the pre-evolved form and ride it like a surfboard 😂
A poison-spitting chameleon? Chameleos in Monster Hunter is one too!
All of these are excellent designs in my view. Even not fitting France, I think they fit better than many X&Y desings that ultimately became official, I'd say
I need the little guy at 2:51 as an actual Pokémon as soon as possible
The cut poison chameleon line may have become the Goomy family with the curled tails, corrosive ooze, and access to a good number of poison type moves
10:50 Better. Way better. Hate that old flamingo, love Flamigo, Flamigo is friend.
Old one is ugly, don’t like the feet, don’t like the face
The cassowary Pokémon's beak-skulls also remind me a lot of plague doctors. Y'know, the thing we thought Spritzee was gonna turn into.
I LOVE all of Tomohiro's designs so much man, they all scratch my brain in the best, almost Spectrobe-y, way.
I loved that peanut dinosaur...
"This IS the generation that introduced Joltik."
... It's not.
5:08 I don't think thats a whale honestly it kinda reminds me of a Stethacanthus more then anything. just putting that out there
Yes, the ironing board shark, same thought
The sea is full of tool-headed/faced creatures, just waiting to be mon.
Counter arguement to @17:22
Wouldn't be weird at all.
We have Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra as another seahorse species, but just not as "flowy"
But most of all, we have the Tentacool/Tentacruel vs Toedscool/Toedscruel and Diglett/Dugtrio vs Wiglett/Wugtrio lines. Although, the whole "convergent evolution" idea didn't hit until Gen9. But my point is that it's ok to have different pokemon with similar design elements, as long as they are completely different pokemon and look completely different.
