One of the things I love about Ann is that her voice is that of a grown woman, not a kitten, not a whispering whimper. She belts it and her emotion pins you to the wall. HARD.
It's about time they listened to a good tune by a well-known band. What About Love, Never, These Dreams, Crazy On You, Magic Man, Alone. Better than that rap crap.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp I'm not impressed with just a voice and no instruments. That's what music was like -- guitar, drums, bass, piano, keyboard. The music industry hasn't moved on. It's still stuck in the 90s. All about that rap c(rap) from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Bone Thugz N' Harmony, Ludacris, LL Cool J. I can't stand any of these hip hop or rappers.
I was a teenager. Having my 1st love. The neighborhood bad boy of course 😩. And as hard as he did try,...he just couldn't except normal love. This song hits my heart as hard today as it did in the 80s. I wish him well wherever he is. Because he did deserve love. 😢
Totally agree. Passionworks, from '83 and the album before the one this song is on, has several great songs on it. How Can I Refuse, Blue Guitar, Sleep Alone, Allies. And I never heard one on the radio. The first time I ever heard Allies was in a movie theater, waiting for the movie to start. I knew it was Ann immediately but I had to wait to go to the record store to find out which album it was on and then buy it. Mid 80s, pre-internet, lol!
Ann Wilson is the most iconic, most powerful, and best ever female rock singer in history. She brought Robert Plant to tears when Heart (along with Jason Bonham - son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham) performed a truly amazing tribute version of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin. No other artist could have pulled that off the way she did! Heart is, without doubt, the best female rock duo in history!
What I guess Is s*** The Right out of the Box that was yeah they was doing it really good though I'm nude If she would say Smoke It was awesome On A-day too Hey Jimmy J😅😅😅
1st single from their 1985 self titled album. The same album that Never and These Dreams are on. The song is a cover , originally done by a Canadian band called Toronto in 1982.
So agree with you Amber, Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful voices in Rock, male or female! She makes it seem effortless. Even when she's not trying to put power into it!! Add Nancy's guitar and harmony and I've just always loved Heart! One of the best concerts I've ever attended!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Ann Wilson is more than a female vocalist. She’s a force of nature. I can’t imagine a world in which Ann’s voice isn’t rocking my AirPods. Thank God she didn’t become a chef or lawyer. Top 5 rock voice ever, woman or man.
The song was originally recorded in 1983 by Canadian rock group Toronto. All three songwriters are Canadian. It was a power ballad hit for the come back of Heart. a nice choice ! The band moved to Canada. from Seattle, and Heart recorded their first album 'Dreamboat Annie' in Vancouver in 1975. very popular round here
Snce the 1970s i can safely say that Ann has ALWAYS been my far and away favorite female voice! She just has such amazing control, depth, richness and nuance that few others can deliver! She is absolutely at the top!
In the 80s, there was a move to make Heart a more relevant band as they were in the 70s, so they brought in professional song writers to produce more pop based music for the band. Although Ann didn't like the songs, they ended up becoming some of their best hits..
Fun fact: this song was originally written and demoed by Canadian AOR masters Toronto, but never made it to an album because the band's managament thought "it was not the right time in their career to release a power ballad". The great disagreement within the band about this decision was one of the reasons why Toronto broke up shortly afterwards. Some time later, Heart's management stumbled upon the song, bought it, and let Heart record it. "What about love" became a colossal hit single for Heart, helping propel their eponymous "Heart" album to the Billboard #1 spot in 1985. Not unsurprisingly, the original demo version has since been released on "best of" compilations with Toronto.
Ann Wilson is my all time fave singer, Heart my all time fave band. I'm so excited you're loving this! Admittedly, this isn't my fave era of theirs but it still kicks arse! ❤ Please do "Mistral Wind" from their 1978 album "Dog & Butterfly" - you won't regret it!!
EXCELLENT song from an EXCELLENT band!!! You have to hear their song "I Want You So Bad." The ending is epic! It's way up there with "Alone" for my favorite from their "Bad Animals" album.
The song was written by Sheron Alton (who like Nancy plays guitar) and Brian Allen of the group Toronto, who never released the song as a single. Toronto would be another group lead by 2 females leads; singer Holly Woods, that you should check out. This ended up being Heart's comeback single, back as serious hit makers in the 80s
Dayum girl, that's a set o' pipes!!! Ann is the epitome of a grown ass woman with a voice wrapped in silk that smacks you like a baseball bat with its power! A classic that you guys reacted to with your usual fun, happiness & respect. Thank you as always.
I’ve seen a lot of people talk about seeing Heart in concert. All I can say, is lucky you. During the Vietnam war, the boys in the band became draft dodgers, scootin’ across the border north of Seattle, and settled down in Vancouver BC. Ann soon followed the band and Nancy wasn’t far behind. It was in Vancouver where they honed their skills and became loved world over. Just before fame hit, they played the club and high school scene. I was lucky enough to have seen Heart at one of our high school dances. A young Ann and Nancy just rocked it.
Two Heart songs you need to listen and react to live are "Dog and Butterfly" and "The Battle of Evermore", a cover of the Led Zeppelin song!! Book them for a future Female Friday!
Since you guys know all about Heart, Loverboy, & Footloose; you need to hear Ann Wilson & Mike Reno's duet "Almost Paradise" (music composed by Eric Carmen) from that movie's soundtrack.
You can never go wrong with Heart! Check out an old song of theirs called Dreamboat Annie. It's VERY different from their usual style, but equally as beautiful ❤
Both Ann and Nancy are incredible vocalists let’s not forget Nancy’s soprano harmonies. One song that stands out in my mind is the beautiful Dog and Butterfly a live version is the best you can really hear Nancy on this.
This song and all this music from this era (80s) always brings tears 😭 to my eyes. I was born in 1977 and this was a huge part of my youth!! Being the youngest of 4 kids. My older brother is 8 years older then me. I had no choice but to listen to this fantastic music 🎶
Love Heart!! Nancy has a great voice too!!! She takes the lead on their song "These Dreams". Check it out if you haven't already. Another female you should check out is Toni Braxton. She has a beautiful voice. The song is called "Unbreak My Heart." It's worth a listen. How about doing some more Dolly, Pat, Martina, Celtic Woman, Carrie, Lita the list goes on & on. Any one of these ladies would be a rabbit hole worth going down!!!!!!!!
Everything. Everything about Heart songs is on point. The lead (Ann), the backing vocals, all of the instruments. Their songs are so tight, so well conceived of, so well executed. You can't make them any better. A joy to listen to, again and again. Thanks for bringing them back.
That coda when Ann really goes for it is an all time great vocal performance. Power ballads aren't normally my thing, but Ann sells it so well you've got stand back and applaud.
I grew up listening to this band since I was a little guy in the 80s when they were huge; they are definitely in my top 10 favorite bands of all time. I absolutely love Heart, always have.. ❤🥰❤🥰❤
This is my favorite Heart song of them all. Ann's singing just blows me away, as does the rest of the band. I guess this could be the prime example of the class "power ballad".
I had forgotten about that ending, wow! I had this album when it came out, it had a bunch of huge hits for them. This was around 1986, definitely hair band 80s era, so they went with the times.
Please please you will NOT regret this…. Listen to Heart’s tribute to Led Zeplin at the Kennedy Center honors. It is magical. Even Obama was rockin out to it. It will leave you stunned. Absolutely stunned. Truly. There will never be another performance like that. Again, it’s the live version at Kennedy Center giving tribute to Led Zeplin. Heart was amazing!
Ann sings “don’t let it slip away” 3 times. She builds it each time, and it is one of the strongest, most powerful, difficult, heartfelt and sexiest lyrical moments I have ever heard. I love her the first time she sings it, I adore her the second time, and I am slap down blown away the third time! What a beautiful person and powerful singer! Chills!
Awww, another good one from the Wilson sisters. There are so many good songs from them. A couple of others that you might want to listen to, that I don't think a lot of people mention are: "The Woman in Me" "I Didn't Want to Need You" But yes, yet another good choice from Heart.
Ann Wilson is the only female vocalist ever to have the most powerful voice but yet have the most vulnerable and softest all in the same songs 🎵 ❤! Truly exceptional
This was a comeback of sorts for Heart who had not had a hit in a few years. It was suggested to Ann that she should hold back on her voice and let things build before she unleashed what we all now know as that incredible voice of Ann Wilson with that incredible range. Fun Fact: Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas from "Starship" provide backup vocals on this song.
One of the things I love about Ann is that her voice is that of a grown woman, not a kitten, not a whispering whimper. She belts it and her emotion pins you to the wall. HARD.
All those gals could , Anne , Nancy , Joan , pat , Susie , Lita , toyah

Ann’s voice: power and emotion, vulnerability and ass-kicking. Beautiful song. ‘Heart’ was a great name for this band.
Girl power.
greatest female rock voice of all time...
Ann is INCREDIBLE!!!! They together are just vocal monsters. Love Heart.
Proof that Heart could handle an 80s power ballad as ably as the folky/ proggy 70s rock their band all but helped define.
